^kkart caught up with my on Facebook recently and asked me where the hell I've been. Really? All over! Just not DeviantArt.

This entire year has been flying by. Seems like I'm always busy, but I can hardly remember what's been keeping me so busy. Nothing of any real significance, I guess. To some anyway. I work 38 hours a week serving food to mostly thankless corporate employees. After that I fill my time with sitting at the Applebee's bar, reading (Stephen King, of late. Thanks to my roomate, Zac, for starting me in on the Dark Tower series. Now my soul belongs to Stephen King.), watching Castle on Monday's (I want it back!), and occasionally going where and doing something fun. It's bad when you can't think what fills up most of your time, right? I sleep. I work. I sit at the bar drinking soda and talking to the staff of the bee's and horsing around with my friends. I play softball on Sundays (5 and 1 ya'll!).

My mom recently got married to a really special guy. And when I say special I mean it in the retard sort of way. Haha, I kid. He really is a great guy. And special.

I moved in with two of my best friends in April and it's been going swimmingly.

My love life has been up and down and recently up. It's an amazing feeling to let go and just let life take hold of you. It's been working so far! Ya know that song "Hold on loosely" by .38 special? Too true.

I haven't been doing much photography, but I hope to change that this summer. I'm learning to work on less sleep, so I intend to devote more of my day doing things instead of winding down from work, sleeping and working. Going to bed with it still light out really blows!

I'm going to Phoenix at some point in the next few months to stay with a great friend of mine, so I'm very excited for the photo opportunities to come of that.

Basically, life is life. I'm living it happily, and not spending a lot of time worrying over the internet. It feels good!

On that note, one last check of the email and I'm off to shower.

I would like to promise you'll see more of me over the coming months, but I've learned better.

So, some of you may have heard and many of you may not...George Clooney will be filming the majority of a new movie called "Up in the Air" right here in St. Louis between March 3 (Happy Birthday to Meeeee!) and April 22...They held and open call this weekend to cast a shit-ton of extras for the movie, and so my friends Zac and Shawn and I all went down to try out our luck. I took some headshots beforehand so we'd be set (Shawn - ~visionthrumyeyes - took mine for me) and the casting director we talked to seemed pretty impressed.

It was actually kinda fun standing in line for nearly an hour only to be told to come back in another 2.5 hours, then to stand in line for about 4 more. We were in that mall from 11:30am to about 6pm. But we made it fun, met some cool people (a girl who looked a hell of a lot like Megan Fox) and hopefully it will all pay off.

After being on our feet all day and nearly peeing myself, we got to meet one of the casting people. He met Shawn, Zac and I as a group, talked to us about what would happen if we were chosen (compensation, time, etc) and went over our applications. When he was checking out our photos, he noticed they all kinda matched and asked if we had them done just for the casting. We said yes and he laughed a bit and then Zac said, "Kelly's a pretty amazing photographer..." (it's a stretch, but I love him for it!) and the guy looked at me with one of those wide eyed expressions and a smile and said, "You did these?" Uh....yeah....Anyway, he seemed impressed and flashed me a huge grin.

He marked all of our applications with "extra experience", even though Zac is the only one who's been an extra before. He took Shawn and I's being in a spoof for a contest for MTV (not our best work!) and videos for Communications in high school as experience. I think he just liked us so he wanted to give us an extra shot.

Then he did us one better...he grouped us all in a file together and said if one of us was chosen, we'd all be chosen and thrown into a scene together.

I'm pretty stoked about this movie and I really hope we're chosen. If not, I'll still have over a month to try and paparazzi Clooney! Haha!

If we're chosen, I'll definitely be posting about it and I'll expect everyone to go see the movie and try to identify my face in the background!

Aside from the awesomeness of maybe being in a movie, this is going to do wonders for St. Louis. I'm pretty happy about that!

Well, firstly...I'm angry with myself for not double checking. My camera is almost ALWAYS set to RAW mode. So I assumed it was. So I let things be a little darker thinking I could compensate later. I was shooting in JPG. Grr. So I lost a few good photos to darkness and grain, but not too many.

The premiere was loads of fun. I ended up rapping The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air on STL TV....if I find the video, I might share it. Or I might not. I could die of embarrassment. I'm far too white to be rapping.

Will Smith was nothing short of incredible. He is such a genuine guy and so appreciative of his fans. It was an honor to get to be so close to him! His smile is way contagious. I can't imagine being on a photo shoot with him. That would be a dream come true for me.

It was a huge rush being there and experiencing this. I could get into it! Next time, I might bring my flash, though. I hate using flash, because it's obnoxious, but at a red carpet event....

Or! I really want this enormous balloon one of the press people had. It was like a giant collapsible street lamp. Very cool.

Anyway...hope you enjoy the photos! I hope it goes for the full $350, but who knows....

I've decided to sell all of my old film camera equipment for some quick cash for a road trip. I have no reason to hold on to it all, other than sentimental reasons, and those aren't good enough to let it all collect dust when it could be changing someone else's life like it did mine! So check it out! (to view this post with images included, instead of links, please go here)

All of the lenses are FD mounts).

Photo of the whole outfit

Canon AE-1P Body
Roughly $100 used in good shape.

I adore this camera. I had originally planned on keeping it for sentimental reasons, but the more I think about it, I hate to see it sit and catch dust. I'd like to see it put to good use. And, lets not lie, I could use the cash. I have never gotten less than great quality from this camera. Any bad photos were by fault of my own or the developing process. Always a sharp, well exposed image when shot in Program mode. The shutter is smooth (and I love the sound...you just can't replicate that!) and works well. I've never had it stick. The winder is smooth and works perfectly. I can't think of any problems with this camera! It even has a fairly new battery, which I changed once in my 4 years of owning it! It has a nice little eye cup, too. I haven't gotten it inspected or anything, but I'm sure it's in great shape.
Photo of the body
Another photo of the body

Phoenix 100mm f/3.5 Macro Telephoto Manual Focus Lens for Canon FD
Roughly $120 new, though my mom was ripped off and paid $300.

This lens hardly left my camera for a very long time. It is an amazing lens, no matter what you're trying to capture! Incredibly sharp, great bokeh, smooth focus, fantastic color. I couldn't ask for a better lens. I used it religiously for portraits and macros for years. The lens is still in great shape, if a little dusty on the outside from lack of use. Well worth every penny paid. Includes lens and back cap.
Phoenix 100mm Lens (remove space before "phoenix.jpg" to view image)

A few photos taken with this lens:
Kilian - Kilian II - Barn Cat - Pincers - Lady Bug

Vivitar Zoom Super Wide Angle 19-35mm f/3.5-4.5 Series 1 Manual Focus Lens for Canon FD
Roughly $120 new

This lens is a fun little lens. Very lightweight. It was my first experience with a wide angle lens. It isn't as sharp as it could be and seems to generate a lot of contrast, but I was always very happy with it. Still in next-to-brand-new shape. Again, maybe a little dusty on the outside.
So I'm going to slowly upload some of my favorite shots from the very first wedding I photographed over the weekend. I hope ya'll like them and can give me some constructive criticism! I know that some of the outdoors ones are gonna be hell to work with because the sun was insanely harsh that day...bright, hot and right on us at all times.

Please note, I don't intend to get into doing weddings as a regular thing. This was sort of a paid favor for a friend, that turned out to be lots of fun, but DEFINITELY not what I want to be doing career-wise.

Once I can get my head right and figure out where to start, I'm gonna try and break into some photo journalism. Wish me luck!

Anyway, hope ya like the wedding photos.

Side note! If you would be so kind, please visit my "My Shot" page here and rate my image! I haven't been up to much lately. Slowly finishing up a website for some friends that run a gaming store in St. Louis. Starting on a website for my aunt who runs a farm and sells produce. Just waiting for Dairyland to open back up and inspiration to flow again.

are total pains in the ass.

So today I learned that photos look very good on the web if they are saved in Apple RGB. I also learned that most printers (including mine) print in sRGB. Saving in sRGB was causing my photos to appear as if they lost color when I uploaded them to the web. It didn't USED to do that when I used CS. So after messing around and probably giving =CrazyMonkey-Ben a headache, I thought, "Duh! Why don't I just copy all of my CS settings to CS3!" And by golly, it worked.

So now, I can upload and print photos saved in sRGB, and they look great both ways...one step closer to feeling happy about my photos.

The coolest thing.

I got an email from this high school senior I'm kind've acquaintances with named Audie. He's a really cool kid and into photography...plans on going to college for it, unlike this one girl I know who is a bit of an idiot.

Anyway, he is a part of a program at the high school called JILG: Jobs for Illinois Graduates.

JILG does a lot of things to help kids be prepared for college and work after high school. One of those things is job shadowing. Well Audie emailed me and asked if he could please shadow me when February rolls around!

I hadn't yet considered what I'm doing to be my job. I mean, it does involve work and I do make a small income from it, but it's so irregular right now, that I just don't consider it my job. Dairyland is my job, Kelly Jean Williams Photography is, hopefully, my future career.

Either way, though, I was flattered as hell and said yes. I'm definitely going to make it clear that he'll be shadowing someone in the beginning stages, not someone like Thornton or Tory Rae who have been at it for awhile (Thornton a long while), are established in what they're doing and successful at it.

Then again, maybe it will be helpful to see how chaotic and different it is when you don't have it all and you're trying to start a business.

Who knows if the teachers will even allow him to shadow me?

Anyways...I thought that was kind of cool and wanted to share it. Just cross your fingers that I have some work for him to shadow me on in February!

Tons of love,

So, I just uploaded some photos I took today of migratory Bald Eagles. Every winter they fly down to my area to fish along the Mississippi and Illinois rivers. They attract quite a bit of tourism, but I have been kind of used to it, growing up with them.

Today I photographed them for the first time and I think I can safely say I'm addicted. I can't wait to go back and do more. I want a bigger lens, too. These were all taken with my 55-200mm, mostly at the 200 end.

It's sort of exciting walking right up under an eagle to take his picture while he's staring at you the whole time. The first one made me very nervous. I felt like he might fly down and rip my face off. Glad he didn't!

I'm really proud with how these came out and I hope you all like them, too. I tried to make sure I got good exposures. I only messed with the levels on two of the photos. I forgot to put in all of the descriptions that I added an unsharp mask. So, I added an unsharp mask.

So on my list of wants: a lens that is 300mm or bigger! And a new tripod.

Oh man. Trying to calibrate my monitor and it isn't going too well. I can't seem to get it right! I know a lot of my photos aren't that dark (I've gotten prints), but if I make the photos look right, the calibration things look wrong.

Maybe I need to quit for the night. This is so hard...I can't get it right and I don't want my photos to suffer for it.

Have my recent photos been really dark to you? I knew some of them were kinda dark...then I changed my calibration to what is seemingly right and some of my photos are so dark that I can't make details out.

Example, my recently uploaded photo with footprints. Before calibration I could see the foot prints almost to the very bottom of the frame. After, I can't.

Grrrrrrrrrrr.

Edit
I got it back to the way I had it that is consistent with my prints....so if my photos look too dark and saturated to you, maybe try upping your gamma a bit. If you don't wanna do that, you'll just have to miss out on detail!

Tons of love,

I'm a little freaked out right now.

I have a photo shoot Thursday at 2. It's a family of 15. One big family portrait and then the individual families want pictures, too. And wow was this lady thorough. She took photos of her yard and emailed them to me. She even took them at the same time that we'll be doing the portraits. She sent me photos she found on the net of family portraits she likes. She asked me what kind of cam I have and if it's capable of producing large prints. She knows whats up.

I'm scared because it's a lot of people. I've never posed that many before. I'm also scared because I think she helps run this website: [link] which is very big in our area and lots of people go to looking for different services. She knows people. It could be big for me.

Blech. Nervous.
Wish me luck?

Tons of love,
I'm adding an extra step that I didn't used to do. I'm adding my little logo to the wallets, so I have to upload them separate and go through the whole process with them. Then I'll upload every logo-less photo and go through the process again. Redundant. Boring. Long.

Kinda have to go through it again when they arrive. Make sure it's all there.
I'm supposed to have a re-shoot of the Stidd family at 4. Right now it's dark and pouring cold rain. Dammit.

Six rolls of film to develop. Zoo photos mostly. And randomness. I don't have the money now. I just spent $193 at B&H. I ordered a small off-camera flash set up.
I almost regret ordering it all. I kind of feel like I should have set the money back to pay my bills over my jobless winter. Then something in the back of my head said that it was an investment and to go ahead. And it's new toys. And it can help me to take indoor pictures (winter photography to pay bills?). Well, it's too late now and it's going to be fun to play with. Especially if I could set it up at Hidden Valley this winter and get some snowboarding photos. Except I don't have any friends that are good snowboarders...that I'm aware of anyways. I would love to get some cool photos at night time...with the flash coming off from one side while someone competent on a board hits some rails and ramps.

I still need to get my film developed haha. *sigh*

Ya know what I love a lot about my camera....not missing things because I had to advance the film or switch rolls. Love it.

Off to do some more photo editing before work.

I actually have quite a few ideas with this set up. Hopefully I can pull it off.

Tons of love,

I think I'm going to drive somewhere. I'm not sure where. I need to go somewhere and take pictures that AREN'T people. I love people in candid situations, but I'm already tired of posing people. That's bad, because my income is going to come from posing people.

It's not all people. Senior portraits are tons of fun and I think I'm pretty okay at them.

Families suck. One person is looking at the kid to make sure the kid is smiling, the kid has ADHD, one person is looking at the camera. The next frame is just another of the same kind of crap. Get a good photo of everyone and the exposure isn't very good.

Babies are okay. They're fun and cute.

Bands are just tons of fun.

Sports, even more fun.

Nature...relaxing.

Weddings are stressful and I'm not ready for that. Weddings are good money.

I'm just having a moment. Thinking about what I do and don't want to do, but what I'm going to have to do, and how much I'm going to screw up on the way. A lot.

I would LOVE to photograph concerts, X-Games (and other similar sporting events), and other things for the media...like spreads for magazines.

I don't know how to get there though. Get on with some sort of magazine I guess. Or just shoot sporting events with some kind of press pass, then sell the photos to magazines. I dunno.

I started this journal to say I was going to go out and take some photos of anything and everything not human. Or at least, not posing. It's gonna be like vacation for me.

And hey, big thanks to *seenew for trying to help me out with my RAW editor situation. Everyone go give him love. His new work is kicking ass and I'm a slacker and haven't told him so.

And I urge everyone who is HDR happy to strive to make your HDRs look more realistic. It's great to have amazing tonal range, but if it makes the photo look cartooney, I'm not interested. That building doesn't glow, don't fake like it does. HDR is a good thing, when done right.

Oh and go look up Serena Ryder and Sara Bareilles...both amazing vocalists and songwriters.

Annnnnd I think I'm done rambling. :yay:
The other night I was lucky enough to sit in on a TKD class at Piasa Martial Arts and take some photos. I want to take classes there when I can afford it.
I don't have the greatest organizational skills. When it comes down to it and I grit my teeth and finally organize things...I can do it fairly well. But it takes a lot of thinking.

I'm categorizing all of my photos from about the beginning of '06 to now and backing them up on disk. All of the ones older than that are being backed up too, but they are already fairly organized and I am too lazy. So I'm just slapping them all on a disk as they are.

After they are all on disk, I'm filing them.

As for portraits I'm paid to do, those will be backed up two ways. Immediately I am going to burn the unedited photos to disk and file them alphabetically, and then later I'll burn the edited ones to disk and file them next to the unedited ones. I will also temporarily have them on my hard drive. I haven't decided how long that will be. I need them to be easy to pull up for a certain amount of time during and after the ordering process.

If anyone knows where I can find some inexpensive, snazzy, jewel-case sized drawers, please let me know! Something like this would be awesome, but I'm broke. So, plastic is good!

Sometime this week I will have some photos up from the first photo shoot I did with my new camera, as well as some others I did with my old cam. I'm surprisingly kind of busy! I have a photo shoot later today, had one yesterday and I have one next weekend. If this means I'll be even busier next year, then awesome!

I've been very unhappy with the outcome of some of my shoots on film. Just things that have to do with harsh lighting and the little I could do about it, so I'm excited to have this digital and be able to sit there and see what is wrong and what I can do to fix it.

I'm also in love with my new lenses.

Ugh, I also need to update the galleries on my website.

And some nights all I want to do is curl up with a book.

Anyways, I had better go scarf some food and get ready to go.

The main reason I'm so anxious is because a photographer has a month old 40D that he is willing to sell me for $1050. But I feel like an ass saying, "Well I don't have the money yet...hang on a few more days!" Too bad I don't have a way to borrow that money from someone and then pay it back as soon as the inheritance comes in.

I feel greedy.

I just really want a nice camera. I'm pretty sure that's a great deal on a 40D.

The guy has been really nice to me so far. He got a higher offer on the cam than he originally asked (you see I talked him down to 1050) and I told him to take it. But the guy backed out and he came back to me, which was very cool of him. I hate to ask him to hang on 'til I can afford it. Seems unfair to him.

I told him if any other offers come along, take it.

...a blog addict. And ready to go digital.

Had a senior portrait shoot yesterday. I'm not thrilled with the outcome, but I'm working with it. I hate doing 4 rolls at one location. Especially if that location is just a yard. Even if it's a fancy ass yard in a fancy ass sub-division. I had to do some of the shots indoors by a picture window. Wasn't prepared for that. I wasn't aware they wanted that - my fault. Should have asked if there would be any indoor shots. I only took 200 iso film. Dumb move. My flash is crap so I didn't use it. Sooo, none of the indoor shots came out. Well a few may be salvageable...haven't gotten to them yet. I think I'll call them up after I give editing the indoor ones a go and tell them they didn't turn out, but I'd be glad to shoot some more if they wanted. This time use my flash but with a home-made bounce.

I wanna go digital so bad. Soon. Soon.

I'll upload a few of my favorites from the shoot within the next day or so.

I have a senior portrait shoot, a shoot for my boss (her two kids and niece together), a shoot of a mother and baby and a shoot of a co-worker and her dog coming up in the next month. I also talked to someone today about senior portraits and that's looking good. I'm pretty excited, but I can't have pictures not turning out.

It's insane how much a person will blink when a camera is pointed at them.

Okay, break is over. Back to editing.

Holy crap do I feel like a big pile of feces this morning. Yesterday was Pointfest and I lost all my good sense and I am paying for it today. I didn't think the sun would be too bad since it was late September. Stupid. The heat rose higher than the forecast...probably mid 90's. The sun was strong as hell, even with the occasional cloud cover I could feel it cooking me. The funny thing about me, though. I don't burn. Well, my face burns a little, but the rest of me browns. And now I have a horrible farmer's tan and pink nose.

I didn't drink as much water as I should have. Stupid. They only offer salty foods at concerts. Stupid. Now I'm feeling like I have a hang-over/the flu, but I'm just dehydrated. And it sucks.

I like being in the thick of things; catching crowd surfers, watching the mosh pits, catching the crowd surfers. Stupid. My head kinda hurts where I got kicked (and my sunglasses got broken ...I miss my $5 shades).

During Sum41, we couldn't push close to the stage like we wanted, so Katie and I found this little folding table folded up and propped up against a shed nearby. We climbed on to the 2 inch edge of the table and held on for dear life to the shingles that were level with our heads. But we could see Sum41 in all their glory from about 50 feet away and watch all of the crowd surfers. And Katie's ex-marine boyfriend helped relieve our cramped fingers by propping us up with his body. My abs are killing me. Apparently balancing on an edge and holding on to something with two fingers works your abs! It killed me. Worth it.

I have blisters. That's a given.

My legs hurt because for some reason, rock bands always want to "SEE EVERY FUCKING PERSON IN THIS PLACE JUMPING UP AND DOWN!"

I need some Chapstick. My lips hurt real bad.

But it was allll worth it. Except I have a photo shoot this afternoon. I'm gonna have to work hard not to wince a lot. I get in some funky positions while taking photos and I know it's gonna work me hard.

Good times, though. I can't decide who I love more: Ben Burnley or Adam Gontier. They're both so amazing.

The bands that impressed me most out of all I saw: Seether, Sum41, Hurt, 12 Stones, Three Days Grace and of course, my favorite, Breaking Benjamin.

I can't wait to go again. But maybe next time I'll remember sunscreen.

News

Soon I will (most likely) be able to buy a digital camera. I should be getting about $2000 from my dad, from his inheritance from his father. $1150 of it is going towards capping two more of my teeth. The rest I'm spending on a camera.

I'm thinking of either a Canon XTi or a Nikon D40x. Whichever one I get, I want to only get the body. The D40x seems to be just slightly more expensive. I am very much pro Canon, but I would love to try out a Nikon.

I need help choosing between the two cameras. The D40x or The XTi.

If you all could help me decide that would be magnificent!

Also, if you could suggest a lens to buy that would be great for portraits, that would also be nice!

Maybe a Sigma 55-200, f/4-5.6? I'd love to keep my 100mm Macro, my 19-35mm and my 35-105mm lenses, but they don't go digital! I doubt I'll sell them, though...I love my film equipment.

Suggestions!? I have an estimated budget of about $850. Maybe a LITTLE extra.

Thanks guys!

EDIT

Okay, so 10 minutes later and I've decided (after searching Flickr) that I want the XTi. Sooo, now I just need help finding a decent lens for portraits (and other general shooting) for no more than $200!

News

Yesterday I got a lens in the mail from Mark Collins. He had a 35-105mm lens with a Macro setting that he had no use for, since it doesn't fit his 20D. I've taken some pictures with it to test it out and hope to have those developed soon. It seems to be a pretty sharp lens. It's a heavy S.O.B....all metal. The bran is Unitax? I couldn't find any information on it, but I like it. It seems to be well built.

I went out to test the lens last night and I was getting angry. I had raced to catch the sunset after work, but missed the best bit and then my camera crapped out on me. I was freaking out inside. The shutter wasn't going. Push the button, nothing happens. I stuck it on self-timer mode and the timer would begin to beep, then quit and nothing happened. Then I used my brain. The battery. I have had the same battery in my camera for three years; since the day I bought the camera. That little 6 volt lasted a hell of a long time. So I bought a new one of those and shot some picture today while I was out running my dad to the bank.

I hope having a fresh battery will fix a problem I've been noticing. It never occurred to me what was wrong, but a lot of my photos have been coming out a little underexposed and I am wondering if it was because of the battery losing power. We'll see, huh?

I got my nice pretty business cards today. They look sharp as hell. I can't wait to hand them out. I think I may slip them in people bags tonight at work.

I also got my reflector kit today and within 5 minutes had the wire frame broken. The rivets snapped. But rather than fuss about sending it back, paying shipping, etc, my brother is gonna slice open the material by the break, take out the old rivets and re-rivet it for me, then sew it back up. It's kinda nice having a handy brother. I think I'll just not use it's 'collapsible' capabilities because it broke when I was collapsing it. Buzz-kill. But it's nice sized and WORKS, so I'm happy.

Look forward to more uploads from me soon!

Peace out homies!
Ya know, eBay can be really stressful. I was bidding on a 5-in-1 oval reflector set a little while ago...seconds from winning it for $1.10 plus shipping, when another guy swoops in a bids with, like, 20 seconds left. Bastard. So I instead bid on and won a 22" 5-in-1 collapsible reflector set. $17.00 and change after shipping.

I can't wait to get it! And play with it! And learn! And improve my photography. Shadows in eyes and around the nose are my pet peeve with my photography, but I refuse to use fill flash like every other local photographer. Let's see if these reflectors work out for me.

I ordered those cheap business cards ya know? When I went to pick them up almost a week ago the lady had forgot to put the ".com" on my web address. So I'm awaiting a reprint. And not really wanting the cards anymore. I ordered 100 of my own design from Overnight Prints and should get them in a week or so (didn't wanna pay for faster shipping). They should kick ass.
You all probably know that over the past year I've sort of been pushing my photography and trying to make some income from it. Mostly senior portraits. This week I took a big step. I ordered some posters. Actually they're 8 x 10 photos that I took (senior pictures) with "Kelly Jean Williams Photography" and my website on them. They look pretty sharp. I was told a few of them look like Abercrombie ads.

I posted two of them in the windows where I work; McCarry's Dairyland. Now, if you're from around here, you know that name. McCarry's is THE place to get the best ice cream, sodas and simple snacks. Kind of like a Dog 'n Suds, only locally owned and oh so much better. Summer nights, we're swamped; lunch time, we're swamped; After school, oh my god we're swamped. This place sees hundreds of people every day. (Some of them we see coming and have their order ready when they get to the window, we're just that good.) Anyways, by hanging my posters there, I've automatically opened myself up to every demographic in Jerseyville: Old, Young, Teens, Parents, etc. It's scary as hell. And what scares me more is that when I came in to get a soda today, a manager, Angie, comes up to me and says, "You're gonna have to do something if you're gonna have these posters hanging here. You gotta get business cards or something because too many people are asking about you." So I just went to a local printer and ordered 500 business cards like it's the most natural thing in the world. Without a second thought.

I went to the high school today and was in turn sent to the unit office to seek approval to hang the posters in the high school. I was denied. No advertisement.

You guys probably think, "So what, you're advertising, that's a part of having a business."

It scares me because for 3 years I have been determined to have my own photography business. And you dream of these things but they don't happen. I'm taking the steps to make it happen and I'm not being beaten back down, I'm being welcomed with open arms (so far). It's scary because it's such a big step for me and somehow, deep down, I know I am gonna become something. At least in Jerseyville.

I love being told that a lot of my senior portraits look like clothing ads. I love Levis, Abercrombie, American Eagle, Hollister...all of their ads look so sweet. And I think if the kids think they'll look like models, they'll want me to take their pictures. A few girls mistook this picture

for an Abercrombie ad hanging in the window at work. They wanted to know why we had an ad for Abercrombie at work. That made me feel AWESOME.

Anyways. I am just rambling. Wish me luck guys, I'm gonna need it!

So this fall is going to be a great time for growth. I'm excited.
I just finished reading Eragon, so now I need to go out and buy it and also grab the sequel! I don't wanna be hanging for too long.

As you all may know, for the past few months...well longer than that...anyways, I've been submitting to JPGmag.com for the possibility of being published in their magazine. If you don't know what JPG is about, here's a little snippet from their site:

JPG Magazine is for people who love imagemaking without attitude. It's about the kind of photography you get when you love the moment more than the camera. It's for photographers who, like us, have found themselves online, sharing their work, and would like to see that work in print.

JPG is a magazine. It's published 6 times a year by 8020 Publishing and distributed nationally. You can pick up a subscription or find it in US bookstores like Borders and Barnes and Noble. Everything in the magazine comes from you!

JPG is a website. Here any photographer can join and upload photos and stories to their member page. You can also submit your work for consideration in the magazine.

JPG is a community. JPG exists because of, and exclusively for, photographers like you. Without you, we're nothing.

I have most recently submitted to the theme "gravity" my photo named "We are everywhere".

Vote for me here!

=niimo, an amazing photographer and all around friendly, helpful guy has submitted as well.

Vote for Nimai here!

JPGmag is a GREAT idea and as they add features to favorite and comment, I think it will become as popular (if not more popular than) DeviantART. Who doesn't want to be published?!

So if you wanna help out a fellow artist and myself, please go to the links above and vote!

You can also see our work on JPG at the following locations:

And I've decided I'm picky.

Still looking for the prefect music player for my website. And I'm wondering if I shouldn't just forget about it. Since the website will be html it would have to reload with every page. Unless I used frames and blech.

But my photo slide show just seems bland without music. The song I have in mind is "Dream Like New York" by Tyrone Wells. Ooooh. Light bulb. The slide show is in a frame (yeah blech, shaddup) so why not include the music in the frame? It can be invisible and just load with the slideshow alone. Hmmm....

Ideas, opinions?

Anytime now, you should be able to type in kellyjeanwilliams.com and it will take you to a page saying that my hosting account has been set up. Soon to be replaced with a page saying "Yo dudes, website soon." Or something along those lines.

I have a girl lined up for senior pictures. Mark Collins gave me the idea of doing one or two people's photos for free (only charging for prints) and in return they pass out business cards and flyers for me. A girl I work with agreed to it, but I haven't got COMPLETE confirmation from her mom. Yet.

I'm excited.

Oh and guess what!? Yesterday I finally got two of my permanent caps on my teeth...I'm two steps closer to a great smile. So happy! Now I just have to wait for another $1500 before I can get two more teeth done.

So anyway...if anyone has any suggestions for my website, get back to me!
I've been working on a website...I have a rough design going and hope to have it finished within the next week or so. I bought kellyjeanwilliams.com and I'm just waiting for the paypal payment to go through.

I'm trying my damndest to find a very simple flash music player for the website. Something inconspicuous, with a play/pause stop and volume control. I would really like it if it was like a little equalizer and the controls came up when you hovered, along with the name of the song playing. I have Macromedia Flash MX but no idea how to make something haha.

Oh well...I'll find something eventually. And I wholeheartedly thank MARK COLLINS for making me a slideshow. You rock.

Uhh...that's about it. Yep. I'm bored an awaiting Arby's so ciao.

Love,

...One giant leap for Kelly.

I successfully installed (after hitting many brick walls) a wireless adapter on my Mac and set up a wireless connection to our internet router doohickey. So now I am sitting in my living room typing this on my very own iMac, sending the information over a wireless connection I set up!

I'm proud of myself. I'm not PC stupid, but I am mac stupid, so this took a bit of work. The damn thing is mac compatible, but the installer could only be run on a PC. WTF, right? So I downloaded a driver from the website, burned it to disk and installed it on my mac. After nearly 2 hours of not understanding, I got it. Weeee!

I now need an external hard drive and a USB hub, because I have an assload of things that plug in via USB.

So, I'm gonna go off and play games all proud of myself.

Love,

Today I did some portraits for my friends, Jake and Paula. They had called me earlier in the week and asked if I could do some portraits because they wanted some nice ones to hang on their walls.

Friday night, Paula calls me up and says that the portraits are gonna change a bit. Jake proposed to her! The photos are now engagement pictures. So as I edit them, I'm going to upload some of my favorites from the shoot today. Paula is already in love with them and she hasn't even seen the finished product!

I know they aren't amazing, but I'm pretty proud of my first shot at engagement photos. I would really love it if you guys could critique them hard. But keep in mind, there are certain things that could not be helped due to the equipment I use. Noise, grain, etc. I don't want critiqued on "Oh I wish that had less grain or was sharper." I want critique on the poses, the composition, the use of black and white, etc.

Thanks guys!

Edit

I downloaded the free trial of Photo dex's ProShow Gold and I want the full version. But it's 70 bucks. Dammit. Why does everything have to cost money? If you're designing a photography website or want to make a slideshow for any reason, that program seems to be the bomb.

Love,

Yeah, I use British slang from time to time. And yeah, I usually get laughed at.

That job interview was utter crap. Well, actually, it went well and I'm sure I impressed because the guy said "I gotta call my boss and tell him about you." But the job? The job is crap. For me anyways.

Sales. Set up a table covered in portraits at the entrance of a department store; K Mart, Target, Big Lots, Sam's Club, etc., and you basically solicit people into purchasing a portrait package.

"For 10 dollars today and 10 dollars at the time of the shoot you get a 16x20 print and for signing up for our special offer today, you get 16 free wallets, too!"

7 dollars for every person that signs up. 10am to 8pm, usually Wednesday through Sunday.

If I managed to make lots of sales, I'd make pretty good money, but I wouldn't be able to keep my Dairyland job as well because of the hours and I wouldn't hardly have any time for photography. So, it's a no go.

On the way home I stopped and put in an application at one of my favorite local restaurants, The Mississippi Half-Step. My friend, Heidi, works there and when I walked in Heidi greeted me and asked if I was there for an application. I had told Heidi I was interested in applying. On the way to get the app, Heidi said to the owner/manager, "This is the girl I've been telling you about!" So I guess Heidi has been talking me up, which is awesome. But I'll never be able to compare to her. She's an amazing waitress.

In other news, I'm taking some portraits of two of my friends this weekend. They're a cute friggin' couple and want some pictures for their walls. Also, my mom's co-worker is getting married in September and already has a photographer, but asked me if I'd be willing to take more candid shots throughout the wedding and reception. She can't afford to pay me any more than $50 and the cost of whatever prints she orders, but I don't care! It's gonna be fun and she is beautiful, so I can't wait. All of that on top of the engagement photos that I haven't yet scheduled because the bride lost her job!

Look at me, getting my name out there. I really need to get a website going before the school year starts, so I can start advertising for senior portraits. I really, really want a Blu site, but I can't afford one.

Anyways, enough rambling. I'm tired and I wasted almost half a tank of gas for that "interview" so I need to play some music and relax.

Peace out homies.

Love,
