I don't have pictures of the freak potato or chicken watch to show you, but hey, Today was my first day in College learning Professional Cookery.
Alright, it was induction day so I didn't really LEARN anything, but it's weird to be back in an educational environment. My class will be 15 people, the majority of which have previous experience in some form of cooking.
I have... cooked rice for Kirsty. Not much experience, but i'm proud with what I can do.
Looking forward to it. It's only one day a week, and it's got a lovely scenic walk home around a pond infested with geese down a street strewn with goose shit. It goes down towards Cadbury World, and I then cut through their grounds to get to the train station to get lazily home. I could actually choose to walk along the canal right next to the train station, it'd take about as long as it would to walk home anyway, only the canal route comes out at the bottom of the road I live on. And it's free.
It's totally not the route I was told to take to get there, but I kind of feel like it's shorter. The college is 3 miles away - the distance of my home in Grays to Lakeside shopping center, and it used to take well over an hour.
Today I got home in 50 minutes including a detour into Cadbury World to buy a wispa gold and some truffles for Sammich <3

Here's to the future, and to the Cow-print chef's trousers Sammich is currently making for me.

Recently, it was the birthday of one of Kirsty's friends.
We were invited out to the CineMAO, and agreed to go.
Kirsty's friend is anything but a girly girl, and originally planned for us to go and see Orphan, which although I had only looked at an advert appeared to be hardcore horror about some sort of haunted child or somesuch.
When we got to the AMC theater, it seems the internet lied to us. There was no showing of a movie at 7. So we decided to go to the 8:30 showing of 'The Taking of Pelham 123' - Which I had watched the trailer for before. It looked like a generic Hollywood actiony "terrorism and blowing shit up" film, and I didn't actually have a desire to see it, but I was thankful for the day out as Kirsty and I, if we saw the film list, wouldn't take it upon ourselves to see something we didn't really want to normally.
We also don't normally go to the AMC, and it is my first time at a cinema bearing this name (WB, UCI, Odeon, Vue - these are all ones I have been to.) Tickets... cheap. Cost £11.50 for two of us to see the film, modern open seating plan so you can pick wherever.
Food... Well, let's face it, Cinema stuff is always expensive. First glance, £4 for a Hot Dog is shite. But when you realise that this particular cinema is serving up Woodsmoked American Footlongs, it becomes slightly more reasonable. Best dog i've had.
Under a tenner for a HUGE drink (X-Large, but they call it large), one footlong and a standard cinema-style baggie of minstrels... I'd call that good, for a cinema. Coca Cola and not Pepsi, too.
So, we get our ends in order and settle down into the seating.
Seats... not usual. I'm used to those spring-up seats that if you don't get out of them fast enough hit you in the leg or something. These things were the older rooted-to-the-ground sort. Kind of comfy, but also slightly lower to the floor than i'd have liked. Arm rest was bigger than usual, and whoever was sitting next to me didn't use theirs, so I did have both of them, making it mighty comfortable.
Screen was nice and big, even at the back where I usually detest sitting, it was a clear picture. Very short amount of adverts before the main film, too. Some films nowadays have way too many adverts and trailers, and I don't much care for them.
Kirsty did point out the irony of them showing Orange Wednesday adverts, on a wednesday, in a cinema, where anyone who could have benefitted probably would have done when buying their tickets anyway. And if not, it pisses off the users of Orange who COULD have, but DIDN'T benefit from it. "Fuck you, idiot. Enjoy your full price movie. "
Anyway, onto the film.
Opening was a bit shit. It reminded me very much of the older 80's style openings for shows... with the character, their name, a freeze-frame... it's a bit gay, and we've all seen it before.
I'll say one thing - the movie does take it's sweet time to get going compared to most action-based movies, but when the ball's in motion, it does gather it's momentum.
Acting was very good, actually. John Travolta was presumably being paid for every utterance of the word "mother-fucker", considering how often it came up, but he does very good. He doesn't look old as such, he's just... festively plump but out of season. Still looks something like Danin Stone from my comic project. O_o;
I'll not spoil the movie, but it's not really an ACTION film. It relies on plot and suspense, with very little explosion.
Also unconventional for a movie of this type was the kill count. Higher or Lower? You'll need to watch to find out.
I came out actually liking this film, which is uncommon for me considering I didn't like the concept, and that stories like this have been thrown about more often than... something designed to be thrown about a lot. o.O (Sorry, mind went blank writing this line.)

When Kirsty and I came home, we discussed the composition of the movie in general - The one thing that most action movies have in common is not the calibur of acting... Truly, acting is a very minimal part even though it was handled well...
Music, camera angles, and lighting are the most important parts of an action movie. Imagine if this movie was taken from the eyes of one of the hostages on the train, no music, basic lighting from the carriage, only their eyes... You've got a two hour movie of people sitting in a carriage while some hijacker in the control booth yells into a mic, and occasionally comes out to threaten to shoot someone.
A better example of an action scene that hollywood has often hyped up is in Rush Hour, where Chan is chasing the villain down the alley - there were so many clever angle-swaps, and great suspenseful music combined with beautiful lighting that it actually makes it look interesting.
But look at...

So, recently on the telemovisionatron, they had a special night of showing all of the Indiana Jones films.
I have never seen a single one of them before, and I would not ordinarily seek out such films... I've never been much of a buff, and I usually stick to what I know.
However, Kirsty has been an Indie fan for many a year, to the extent she's even seen a stunt show done in the style of the movies, performed by one of the Indie stunt doubles with replica sets and props.
She has shared in two of my interests, those being Gundam and Star Trek, and so I figured that this was a good time for me to share in one of hers.
We hit the record button, because we had little desire to sit there from ten to two through to whenever the third film ended. (For some odd reason, they played the fourth one first before this)
Raiders sadly was missing a bit at the beginning, which we just located online, so i'll be watching the rest of it on the big TV in a little while.
I've seen the others now.

Now, I must say that watching the fourth one BEFORE the others and knowing nothing about Indie, the movie is a good one. It's only when you look into his character, and the quality of the sets and props that you see a decline in awesomeness.
Aliens... to be honest, I didn't mind. We've seen hollywood throw the concept that aliens helped us build stuff at us all the time. It isn't really in keeping with the mythical and well-researched writing of the others, but it is a widely believed theory and as it relates to the Egyptians, Mayans and Aztecs, it sort of gets in on a related by a distant cousin factor.
The way that indie has changed... Marrying him off, love interest, child... If you compare this to a man who when told "you can't keep your eyes off of me", responds by slipping his hat down for a nap, you can't quite see the through line.
However, I can understand why they did it on two levels. The first is to show that he has matured (We also see this in the scene where his son steals a beer that indie puts back on a tray, compared to the third film where he steals a flower for Elsa, and even states "i'll steal you another tomorrow.") - he hasn't matured entirely because he is still an explorer at heart, but he has matured to the extent where it is entirely possible for him to be ready to settle down.
The second reason they did it is to conclude the series. Not that he could do very many more films, if the reports on his mobility are true. It's tragic for Indie fans, as it's the end to an era which much like Red Dwarf (I.) needed it's additional parts YEARS ago, and (II.) it is IMPOSSIBLE to replace the current cast members with younger alternatives to fill in the missing years.
Yes, that young indie actor in grail was very good and had the act down to a tea, but I do not think that one can just REPLACE indie for an entire prequel rather than a small scene.
Not to say that the new film was terrible, it's props and costumes were fairly accurate, so a good level of research had gone into the film... but it seemed to lack something that I couldn't put my finger on at the time, and it boils down to one point:
Everything is too pristine. We're seeing perfect condition, just-been-washed automobiles, perfectly kept lawns, freshly painted houses and immaculate fences.
In the older films, things sometimes looked as though they could fall apart with one too many a jolt, which somehow adds a dimension to it's authenticity.
That said, I am a fan of Indiana Jones, not just the old ones but also with respect for the new film even if it isn't the same in style as the older works.
I would say that I prefer the way that the older ones are done, and as Kirsty told me that very few scenes used stunt doubles, I have a respect there - much like with Jackie Chan, 'cept Ford isn't mad enough to jetski on a broken leg, unlike the Chan man.
What I liked is that the old movies lack CG. It was a fairly new technology back then, and the temptation to use it was heavy on many production companies back then... However, in indie films, there is verymuch a sense of "if it can be done without CG, that's how we're gonna do it." - That is, if you look at the holy rock in doom when it glows, you can see a very, very visible line where the two sides of the obviously yellow-orange transparent plastic parts meet to make the whole.
Whereas the movie chose to use a light-up oversized pill, nowadays they would add that glow rather cheesily with a computer.
So... yes.
Indie is good.
Don't hate the fourth child just because he's different.

Despite the lack of replies on my journal entry, I do check my pageviews on not only the blog itself but the deviations and suchlike every now and then.
I know people read this, and well...

I feel upset right now.
This has been complex to think through, but I am going to type it.
I've done bad things. To many people, I am some sort of monster, or at the very least a lowly piece of sputum, and that's probably what I deserve given how i've acted in the past.
I've been less than good, and I know that some things cannot be redeemed. For one, my relationship with Kirsy, while going well, will never quite be the same as I violated the sacred trust between us... And as wrong-doings require two parties, I must accept responsibility where possible. I made a mistake and will pay for it for a lifetime..
This if course is a basic loop that continues in my head all the time, flipping from a hatred of the person involved to a total self-blame for allowing anything at all to occur.
But this isn't what makes me depressed. I've gotten used to this crap.

For ages, I thought i'd gotten used to upset and rejection too. When I was 13, I hung around with someone who turned out to be the largest bitch on the face of the planet, and it messed me up a fair bit. Not many people know about this girl, her name was Susan. Because of the mental manipulation she possessed over many people including myself, and the psychological suffering it induced, I learned to suppress my thoughts, and the feelings started to dry up with them...
My grandfather died a few years later, and through all love and respect not one tear would fall down my cheek. I normally tell people I don't know why I did't cry.. But it's because i'd become detatched from emotion.
Don't misunderstand, i'm not unfeeling, and I do still care and have genuine concern - It was more a thing of logic. Despite any amount of adoration, respect and devotion, nothing would bring the deceased back to life. To cry would be meaningless when such a truly great life should be appreciated silently.
I grew up in a similar manner to that, really. I tried to suppress my emotions, and instead just make my way with due consideration and concerns.

At some point, that Vulcan-esque style of my life began to slowly break down, and emotion began to effect me once again. And... now, it's back to normal. Or what I would consider is normal.. I feel sad right now. Genuinely sad.
What I miss though.. is the past. I feel like due to my actions, i've ruined an era that I won't be able to re-create.

The Convention era.
London Expo for me used to be a highlight of my calendar. My only holiday from work, my only rest...
It was a time where I would wear a costume, not worry about the pedantic details as it was for fun, and i'd hang out with whoever was around being part of anything that I could.
And that's probably not going to come around now - I annoyed my old friends, Rel, Hori, Kit (even if I did insult him, he was still a friend) - and many more people besides, I even started to get along with Ryaoki who annoyed me when I first met him. He matured a lot through the expos I saw him.
But now... I'm sure all of those people have not only heard the original truth, but have since spoken to others and gotten stretched truths and untruths in a large mess, and i'm certain that not a one would want anything to do with me.
That's what I miss. Friends and fun at the ExCel center. No one'll be genuinely pleased to see me wherever I go.

Before I conclude, i'd like to say that this blog isn't an attention-seeking note, it's not here for generic sympathy... It's a genuine message on my thoughts and feelings.

To all the people I knew before, if you see this... I apologise for things I may have said and done to annoy or upset you. I would like to draw a fresh line in the sand, cross it and not look back, and I do wish that some of you will cross over with me.

Well, i'll leave this here for now. I'm sure some of you will read this, or be told about or linked to it at some point. My apology is genuine, take it if you want it.

It's sort of like a fritter (word liked by Kirsty 'because it sounds like critter&#039, but it uses Panko breadcrumbs rather than batter so it's all crispy. The natural sweetness of the Banana, unleashed through the deep fry process, means you don't need to use ANY sugar or anything~

It's a pretty damn awesome puddin'.

Well, seeing as i'm onto book 10 of Ikki Tousen/ Battle Vixens, and they continuously tell us that it's based loosely on Three Kingdoms, I did actually some time ago purchase an entire unabridged translation of the Three Kingdoms text. I am onto chapter 32, the final part of book 1.
Already, I would like to ask...
What the shit does Battle Vixens have to do with this?
Three Kingdoms is a novel attributed to Luo Guanzhong, and focusses on Xuande and his two "brothers" of the peach garden pledge, which don't even show up in Ikki Tousen 'til way past halfway into the 10 books.
CaoCao, the villain, is very motivated and warlike. He makes others do much of the dirty work, but time and time again they show that he fights. His battle vixen equivalent is that dude who spends half of his time asleep away from his friends.
Taishi Ci (Shigi Taishiji) never fought against Sun Ce (Hakufu Sonsaku) at all, and infact he came to save Sun Ce at one point.
Zhou Yu (Koukin Shuyu) does not appear to have any relation at all with Sun Ce, but infact with a relative of Sun Ce, Sun Quan - who if I recall, was Sun Ce's heir after his death.
Sun Ce died of a poisoned arrow to the face, and stress that forced him not to rest after he killed a shaman who haunted him thereafter.

I don't see how anything other than NAMES were borrowed for Ikki Tousen. Despite all their talk of "is it possible to change destiny", it looks like they didn't even realise none of them were really following it in the first place.
