So, classes begin again on friday, so I guess I gotta make the best of it.

You know? Altough the U.S. may have some of the best(if not the best) comic stories EVER told, they will probably will be known mostly because of their dopey superheroes. Pretty much deservingly, btw. Now that is a shame, but I don't wanna talk about that.

Unless you've been living below a rock for the past 70 years, you know there are two big publishing houses that canibalize the superhero genre: DC and Marvel comics.

Altough DC comics has a quite varied repertoire of stories, Marvel almost especializes in superheroes, that's why I was shocked by my most recent discovery.

Yesterday, out of a whim, I bought Runaways #1, by Brian K. Vaughan and Adrian Alphona

Runaways is not at all a superhero story, altough it happens in the so called "Marvel Universe". It is a way cool concept, but I won't spoil it for you. The art is lovely, it has its healthy dose of action, comedy and introductory information. The best of it is that you can read it from the begining without knowing anything from the rest of Marvel's comics, and that is always a good thing.

Now, it is so good I would command you to give it a try, under the risk of being considered a retard if you don't or if you give me some "I only read manga" shit, but I wanna think I am a better man than that. I'll link you to a preview site so you can judge for yourselves:

That's right, boys and girls. My folks are back from Italy and they just brought a lot of nice things: from edibles, to wearables to readables..

I just got from them a ton of nice books and comics...

First, they bought me an Italian copy of "32 Décembre", long awaited sequel to the insanely
great comic "Le Sommeil du Monstre" by Yugoslavean mastermind Enki Bilal...just proves my point that we just NEED more European comics...

Also I got the third volume(volumes 1 and 2 were sold out) of Makoto Yukimura's "Planetes". Lush, expressive artwork that catches your eye dead on and a smart, touching, non-patronizing storyline is what makes this book so favored to me. WHY IN GOD'S GREEN EARTH AREN'T MORE JAPANESE COMICS LIKE THIS??? Not to mention that the Italian version is a lot cheaper than Tokyopop's.
