Now, some may have noticed, that as of late I've not done much with color. The truth is, I've gotten rusty with it, and frustrated often. But two of my good friends are amazing with it(I admit to being a bit envious). The one..well, Hikaru's always been totally kickarse, artwise, and outclassed me mostly.

However, I've had the distinct pleasure of watching Zyo grow and evolve, as an artist. I do have to say, she's evolved and grown HEAPS. She still doesn't think she's that good, but truthfully, she's outstripped me, as far as coloring goes. So, I've (hopefully) convinced her to try coloring one of my pics, to see what she can do with it. I can't wait to see; I think this is my first collab in a VERY long time.

Now, Many of you have noticed that as a general rule, there are two things I tend to avoid when drawing something. The first, is easy enough. Glasses. for some reason, though I myself wear them, for the most part I find myself unable to comprehend how to draw them without making them look totally inadequate. Thus, unless I'm completely totalled by a muse who won't be swayed away from them, I won't draw them on a char.

Second, though it's more difficult to tell--I don't like drawing with pencils. The why, is simple. I'm a leftie and that means that my hand is rubbing and wiping all across the image I intend to sketch. Heck, even while using pens, I have this absurd tendency to smear. Now to my other reason for disliking pencils

This is the TECHNICAL reason I try to stay away from pencils. As an artist, I am(at times) also a perfectionist. However, I'm also quite impatient to see results too. A bad combination, I assure you.

Smears and many mistakes made me swap to pens to force myself to adapt, and keep my mistakes.

ANYWAY, getting to the point of this. I haven't drawn in pencil, or glasses for quite some time. My dear friend, Amanda(Also known as teh-mako, mako-chan, boobie-chan, and honeyface) has been feeling a bit down recently, so I thinks to myself: "hey self? why not make mako a picture she can oggle and feel better by looking at?" Of course, being me, I thought it was a great idea and set off to do it.

FOR SOME REASON, the inspiration for this particular piece of sketchery only came when using pencil, and gorrammit the char had glasses too! I started drawing it, all intent on balling it up and starting over and over, when I noticed it wasn't looking half bad. I wasn't smearing it, nor was I particularly fudging up the specs.

I came to this conclusion. Mako-chan is the muse of muses. she managed to get me to do something I had been avoiding, and not muck it up horribly, without even KNOWING about it.

Well, I hope this makes mako-chan as happy as it made me.

Yeah, SO...Recently my drawings have been going crazy. Random stuff, rarely more than spur of the moment tetches, and even more rarely do they ever make it to color(Though the fact that photoshop cs3 almost crashes my computer every time i boot it lent itself to that). I've got more that I haven't scanned for the sheer fact that the image itself is too big for the scanner.

On the bright side, those times I CAN come up with something theme related(The WRock stuff I've been working on for the group I draw for (( [link] )) for example) Has been mindblowing. Now, if I can get my bum in gear and FINISH the linework I'm putting together. Maybe if we win this contest for the set in Chicago I'll be more motivated. Who knows.

Gonna keep trying, but I doubt I'll get anything planned out. The spur of the moment things will at least keep me amused.

Yes, my insatiable desire to do a full series of drawings has struck again. If you didn't notice, my theme this time is 'dragoons', and hopefully this one won't flop like the last...half a billion. So far, I'm actually proud of myself for completing four of them(The fourth, the leader of the tracking division will be up as soon as i spiff up the linework.). I'm feelin' pretty good about this, cause i'm already past the halfway point.

HOWEVER, if a CERTAIN dragoon of the healing squad would ALLOW his design to be depicted I'd be much less frustrated. I swear, if I get out my Stone Soldier and my wind-walker before my Woodland Medic I will be MOST displeased, since I had hoped to make woody(*Mockmock*) the fourth finished.

You have no idea how tough it is to design a violent, totally ripped healer, who dislikes shaving and likes beating the shit out of his subbordinates. -_-.

Anyway, got some glimpses of my other two to scribble out while i try to design his armor(Though I have this feeling my wood dragoon'll have the bare minimum, and the stone soldier'll be almost barechested(probably bald, too.) Signing off, foh sho.

Eventually I scanned a sketch and fiddled, and the more time i spent, the worse it got.

I tried out a style where i removed the lines as i colorworked, to try and make it paintinglike, but that exploded gore-ily in my face. The only salvagable parts were his nose and mouth, which, if the display is working properly, should now be my deviant art icon.

As you probably could tell from my icon, I've got a new thinger I'm working on. My wannabe Geisha, Niko, who is in fact a ninja tool called a jiki shikigami, or a china summoned god or spirit. She's a form of advanced puppet, who is controlled by her handler via the seal on her forehead, rather than chakra strings, and, more like bunshin, has a limited thought process outside her handler's command.

Though she's second of seven (Ni), also known fan, there is a whole line of jiki shikigami, each with their own weapon and fighting style, programmed into them with a network of advanced sealing techniques.

I don't know why, but she was the easiest to invision, a faux incorrect geisha-esque style.

Hitomaru--Ichi--Ken(sword)[balance]

Niko--Ni--Uchiwa(fan)[deflection]

Mitsuke--San--Yari(spear)[honor]

Shimaru--Yon--Kobushi(fist)[will]

Gomaru--Go--Deba(knife)[cunning]

Muko--Roku--Ono(axe)[aggression]

Nanami--Shichi--Kyu(Bow)[precision]

The styles of these guys have yet to really form, but I'll probably post them as a series. Will post more journal entries with my progress.

What the HECK is up with my computer??? Ok, I got home a few nights back, and went to go online to check something. Lo and behold, my computers internet didn't work! Now, this used to happen sometimes, and the problem was solved by resetting my wireless rowder. So, I do downstairs to do just that, and note that my HOUSEMATES computer is working fine. I Reset the rowder anyway, and return to my room, thinking problem solved.

I was wrong. Still, two or three days later, isn't working. I appologize if my stuff is slower to post, but I'm lazy and don't like having to cart the finished works downstairs(or on campus) via a floppy disc--The last time I tried my jump drive, the comp downstairs nearly crashed, so I'm not risking that again.

This WON'T hopefully stop my posting here, though it will significantly slow down my finished products from being added to deviations.

WOW! today, after a LONG time of toiling and grumbling I managed to do it! I stumbled onto an almost proper(albeit slightly cartoonish) look that portrayed with some accuracy my view of my african type character design! Its portrait style, male with dreadlocks(to my annoyance, I could only see him like that), but without his coined ski cap--maybe i'll draw that in on another take of it later, but for now I am HAPPY.

Next I'm going to try a character design for an African type female character I made a LOOONG time ago. Some people I know might not be impressed with African American women who wear their hair either short or with a 'fro(*Sniffs disdainfully at Mako*) but I happen to be endeared by it. Dunno why, but african women with that style, in fatigue patterened dress(Mostly skirts, I admit) really light my fire. not sure if she'll end up as a portrait scheme, regular character design(aka front view, head and torso only, hands if I'm not feeling lazy) or a full body work. I'm almost wriggling with excitement though.

All in all, a VERY good day--I should have the scrap of Kesmond up later today(when I get home) and I'll work on the colorworking for the weekend(or Thursday, if I have time.)

Mwahaha....Mocking doodle, signing off.

Ara....last week I made a character for a fantasy kick I got on, and tried to do a character concept of them--lo and behold, I found out my newest pet peeve to work out! In my experience, being a dorky, white American, I have found that drawing people of other cultures and ethnicities is a b!7ch.

Therefore, my newest little kick(IF I can ever complete a concept) will be until i 'master it' drawing other cultures, starting with African type people(forgive me if this came out offensive)--So, my deviations, if any, will end up being all African people.

That is all. For now.
