I'll be going back to the states on Saturday. It's been another summer in Beijing, and like every summer I spend here, I always have a hard time leaving. I'm going to miss my grandparents, miss the comforts of my house, and miss the tasty foods. Probably more so this year than previous years, I am more reluctant to leave I think, because I will be going off to graduate school.

There are many consequences spawn from this singular change. My environment is going to be very different, and I will have to make new friends and learn to live in a new settling. There will be many challenges for sure, and I can't say I am anxious to meet them. The worst part of leaving Beijing this year is the fact that I do not know if I can return next year. I've been coming back to visit for the last 13 years without fault, and it's a cherished opportunity for me to spend time with my grandparents. But being in grad school is like having a job; summer vacation becomes a thing of the past, and I might only get two weeks off in a year. I'm gonna do my darnest to make it back next year, if only for two weeks, but at this point I really don't know what the future holds for me in grad school.

Also, since I will be going back soon, I'm gonna remind people here that I will be returning to LJ once I get back. Yes, that means my DA journal is going to become semi-dead, but hopefully I'll have something to show for my summer after I get back.

I found a pretty good Chinese translation of the Gundam 00 drama CD: Mission 2306. Having just listened to the CD today myself, I think it was a good thing I didn't find the translation until after I had heard it, because if I knew what they were saying when I listened to it I'd probably have died laughing. XD; Now I'm thinking about translating the Chinese script into English since there is still no full-length English translation of the CD available. It'll be a fun little venture, but since I'll be translating from secondary material and inevitably somethings will be lost in translation, it won't be very accurate. But if I can get the general mood of it across then I think it will be a fun thing for people to read.

The Kyrios Gundam I bought last week is giving me a lot of trouble. I've already lost one of the parts (one of the clear plastic thingy on the arm) and the stickers can't seem to fit nicely no matter how careful I am. The lost part isn't crucial to the integrity of the model but I hate loosing that extra little detail that makes the thing feel realistic. I think maybe I've been working a little too much on gunpla the last few days, that I'm getting careless and fidgety when I work. Maybe after Kyrios I should take a break before starting on the custom FLAG. I'd really hate to mess up that piece of beauty (Kyrios is my second favorite gundam from 00 so I'm not aiming to mess up another mobile suit that I like). >_< Maybe I'll make one every other day or something; it'll definitely keep me busy for the next two weeks.

I went to see the movie "Red Cliff" today with my dad. It was pretty epic and I really like the music. But I think for people who are unfamiliar with "Romance of the Three Kingdoms" the movie can be rather confusing. The main problem is that it sets you right into the middle of the "Three Kingdoms" story without developing the characters' backgrounds. In East Asia this isn't really a problem since everyone knows about it more or less.

The actors as a whole performed well in their roles. Tony Leung was perfect as Zhou Yu IMO, and Takashi Kaneshiro was quite convincing as Zhuge Liang. It was nice and quite interesting to see these two characters interact as friends rather than bitter rivals, especially since the old 90's mainland TV drama portrayed Zhou Yu as an exceedingly envious person. Cao Cao was also portrayed differently from the usual megalomaniac interpretation. He's still very proud, but here he doesn't feel quite like a tyrant, but a man who is cunning and shrewed. The female leads on the other hand, were rather weak. Zhao Wei as Sun Shangxiang reminded me a lot of her breakthrough role as Xiao Yanzi. I know Shangxiang's character is suppose to be tomboyish, but I felt her character came off as more immature than anything else. Xiao Qiao played by Lin Chi-ling felt awkward throughout the film. I know she's suppose to be this soft spoken lady but her delivery is so monotone at times, I wandered if that's deliberate or if the person just can't act.

Besides the movie I also bought myself three more gunpla. Yes, MORE. No, I'm not crazy (at least I don't think I am yet). This time I got Gundam Nadleeh, the GN-X, and the Tieren Taozi.I laughed a little when I learned what the Chinese name of the Taozi is: it's "peach", as in the fruit. XD Maybe that explains the MS's color but who would name a specially designed suit "Peach", even if it is for a young female pilot? Oh well, at least now I won't have to have my Celestial Being gundams do a gang fight on the custom FLAG I bought. I can now have Virtue, Dynames, and Exia face off the FLAG, have Kyrios pose against the Taozi, and have Nadleeh fight against the GN-X. I thought about getting the Trinity's gundams but at that point I'd have ten gunpla to haul back, and that's just too many gundams to put together and ship back for me.

I went to the "Anime City" in Beijing today and came back with quite a load of loot. XD Since I already have the HG 1/144 Exia I bought the same model Dynames, Kyrios, Virtue, and custom FLAG. I was going to buy Nadleeh as well but I think my mom would kill me because I'll be hauling five gundam models back to the states (though who knows, I might breakdown and buy it while I'm in Japan ). The prices were pretty good too and saved me a trip to Hongqiao Toy Market for gunpla. I might be able to get the models there for an even lower price, but the aggrivation of driving there, finding parking, and haggling over prices are well-worth the few extra dollars. -_-

I also got the Gundam 00F vol.1 manga and the first volume of the 00 novel in Chinese. There's suppose to be some details not found in the anime so I had been wanting to read it. I also got a Lockon and a Tieria capsule figure. XD But I don't think I'll place them next to each other or else people mistaken me for a LxT shipper.

I got back from Suzhou today and can finally get a break from all the mad running around I've been doing as a tourist. My trip south this time was also more eventful than I had thought. While we were in Ningbo we had to hurry back to Suzhou a day early because tropical storm Kalmaegi was approaching the Zhejiang coast, and buses would no longer be able to run in high wind and rainy conditions.

Besides Ningbo we also went to Mount Putuo where there are quite a few famous Buddhist temples. Since I've seen my share of temples and monasteries in China over the years I wasn't really interested in sight seeing. What was rather interesting though, is that there were throngs of people, Buddhist faithfuls, who climb the 200 meter or so tall mountain either with a prayer or a bow every three steps. The reason why they do this is due to the belief that if a faithful makes a wish to Guanyin and the wish came true, then he or she (mostly women) must comeback to repay the wish with prayer and a small gift for the bodhisattva. It was a very hot, stuffy, miserable day when I went and I was impressed by the sincerity and determination those people had to climb all those steps.

Now that I'm back I'll be doing some R&R until my trip to Japan. Until then I'll be visiting museums and doing a little shopping in Beijing and just in general relaxing.

It's a five and a half hour flight to Kunming, and while I honestly can't say I'm looking forward to the flight itself, I'm hoping the trip will go well (though how much so is questionable, considering that region has been flooded by heavy rain for the past few days). In that time it means I won't have internet access and the day after I return to Beijing, my family and I will be going off to the Jiangnan region. -_- My days will involve a lot of getting herded around for the next three weeks. It also means I won't get to work as much on my fanart and fanfic as I'd like. At least when I go to Jiangnan I can bring my laptop with me and I can have time to do some work then, as well as have internet access. No such luck to Kunming, but oh well, gotta live with the little inconveniences. At least I'll have plenty of reading material to keep me company during the trips.

I realized today that I get free WIFI at my house. The reason is because during the Olympics the government is supplying free WIFI in certain areas of Beijing. My place is near the basketball stadium, and while the signal isn't very strong, it works well enough that it doesn't interfere with surfing.

The other, more art related news I have, is that I now have a scanner set up. I was going to break my scanner to China with me but it got switched out at the last minute. My dad brought me his old scanner today and after trying it out, it works quite well and I can keep working on my PT doujinshi now. ^^

So...I'm in China now, and I have been locked out of LJ. -_-;; Try as I might I could not get onto LJ (even the proxy websites are blocked to varying degrees). A miracle might happen and I might have sporadic access but I doubt it'll happen. This will become my main online journal for the summer so please check here often for news from me. I'm gonna have a hell of a time trying to find new spoilers for Gundam 00 and I'm sure I'll become extremely behind with the Tutu community. If anyone could give me updates on those things it will be deeply appreciated. *bows*

As for what's been happening lately, I went to town with Winnie and her brother today. It was quite fun and went quite smoothly, though the weather is extremely stuffy and I was really tired by the time Winnie went back to her hotel. Grandma tells me she's planning to leave for the Shanghai area the day right after I get back from Kunming. After a whole week trekking around at high altitude, I don't think I can handle going on a 11 day trip immediately afterward. If I don't go I don't know if my grandparents would give up on the idea of going all together. I'd feel bad if that was the case, but I also don't want to get my self sick and wear myself to the ground by being herded around without a break.

I didn't think I'd have to think about this one day but here it is: CG or traditional media? I've done two CG fanart now and so far both of them look pretty good and I think I'm beginning to get the hang of it. CGing defintely has a "prettier" look to it in that all the colors and what not are smooth and even, and if I mess up somewhere I have the option of changing or erasing something. But with traditional media I don't have to rely on a computer to be creative and I do have a lot of options, including colored pencils, gouache, lineart at my disposal. But both are pretty time consuming and CGing is probably bad for my eyes in the long run. Right now I feel like I'm being pulled towards CG more but when my computer crashed recently I realized how much of a bother it was to do things digitally. And honestly I don't want to short-change my traditional media either since I have been replying on them for all these years; just leaving them behind doesn't feel right.

Recently I found out from a friend that someone had used one of my Princess Tutu fanart (Dark Knight) in an amv without crediting me. At first I was pretty surprised that someone would use my fanart for anything. I know stuff like this happens but I just didn't think it would happen to me.

But after thinking about it, the thought that someone took something I had worked hard on and didn't even bother to ask first, got me pissed off. I've already messaged the person who made the amv but I don't know if she'll answer back. If not, then I might have to do something else but I don't want to blow things out of proportion. It's not like she claimed that she drew the picture so it's not something that serious, and I don't mind if she wants to use my picture in the future as long as she asks. But right now I'll just have to wait and see if there's going to be a reply. *sigh*

In light of this incident however, I've added a note to all my pictures asking people to get permission first if they want to use the picture. This probably makes me sound pretty anal but I really don't want something like this happening twice.

Update: The person has apologized but has not yet credited me for the picture. That's nice but it doesn't really solve the problem at hand. I've left her another message and hope she will somehow credit me soon.

I was drawing a sailor moon fanart yesterday and I had a hard time with the eyes. That didn't make any sense since I never really had problems with eyes but then I realized it maybe because I've been drawing Princess Tutu fanart for so many months I've forgotten how to draw eyes in my original style. Funny thing is when I did draw the eyes they resembled the style from The Good Witch of the West manga which I had been really into lately.

So in conclusion, it's odd how the art styles around you can influence (subliminally even) how you draw. It's kinda like being brain washed (in a good way). XD

While I was looking through some old sketch books, I realize how incredibly bad some of the pictures were. And I'm talking about stuff I drew not that long ago. The necks and bodies are thick while the heads look like watermelon seeds. XD;; But what's weirder is that that style only seemed to have existed for that short period of time two to four years ago. The stuff I had before didn't look all that distorted.

I know that my style has evolved a lot over the many years I've been drawing but I still surprise myself when I look back sometimes. My mom still wants to keep some of my old hideous drawings because, well... she's my mom, but if it weren't for the nostalgic factor I'd probably throw all of them away.

Yeah, I really need to update my da journal more often but what the hell, heck! *Piff*

My art Muse has been running crazy for the past month and a half over Princess Tutu and now that school's about to start in two days I really need to rein her in (although her activity has been decreasing since I came back from vacation). Also, not to brag or anything but I had someone ask me to draw fanart for her fanfic. This comes after I had drawn and posted fanart based off of Amako-chan and Tomoyo Ichijouji's PT fanfics. I actually thought of drawing a fanart for that person when I had come across her story but I really don't have the time and energy to throw myself into fanart, but I won't exclude the possibility of drawing something small for her, if she doesn't mind (cross fingers). I probably won't have anything major for a while and since I realized my scanner at home can actually handle pencil sketches, I might put up some scraps (God knows how much I doodle, in and out of class ).

Right now I just want to get all my apartment issues out of the way and start taking my classes. At least with school the stress stems from myself, not from the actions of others and vice versa. So if I stress, I'll have nobody to blame other than myself (and maybe my professors ).

Thankfully my classes this quarter isn'tt that bad but I might be jinxing myself by saying that. Anyways, I have more fanart waiting in the wings but no time to finish them or get started even. The good news is that during the summer I stocked up on art supplies (i.e. Copic Markers! ) and have gotten started working on a doujinshi based on my Sailor Moon fanfic, "The Blue Rose Renaissance". So far the doujinshi is coming along well but I've only done about half a dozen pages out of the total of 19 pages. Still, hopefully I can finish it by the end of this school year, and I can finally justify my pseudonym

Wow, I have no idea how to use this site. I'm kind of lost right now but it's great to find a place where I can post my stuff and have people outside my normal social circle critic them. So hopfully people will comment on my works and give me their thoughts, good or bad so I can do better.

Anyways, to introduce myself a bit further, I'm a college student who's trying to balance school, fanart, and life in general. I started drawing when I was about 5 and my first canvas were the walls in my grandparents' apartment. From then on I was introduced to anime but didn't realize what it was until I came to the U.S. about a decade ago. Now I write fanfictions and draw fanart as a hobby but also hope to create my own doujinshi someday.

I actually have a small question that I wanted to ask about the use of this website. Can someone please tell me what's the difference between a devious comment and devious thought? Is one a review and the other a message? The help is much appreciated. ^^
