I stepped into a photo that I used to learn retouches... and I remembered how MUCH I liked to find "The 7 Differences" on the newspaper drawings when I was a child and missed that game so much !! So... I decided to do one for those who like it, containing 12 differences. I spent an hour performing some changes on a copy and it was fun !!!

With this work, Liz won the Fantasy Fellowship Contest. I strongly suggest that you visit
her gallery and make a full view of the work.

It is an "apophysis fractal and digital painting (in photoshop)", full of color and energy.
The expression of the lady is lovely and the colors fit so well together, making us remember
Mardi Grass or Brazilian Carnivals.
A great use of two different techniques, fractals and photoshop work (mixed media).

In her own words, Liz explains about this work, very happy for having won:

" Wow, it's the first time I've ever won anything, anywhere, ever! I was in a
celebratory mood when I created it and now that it's won I'm there again!!!
The fractal itself inspired me to paint the figure. I do enjoy taking fractals further
by adding a character nearly always inspired by vintage glamour figures - actresses, etc.,
often from my favourite art deco period and film noir. Dames that have character and
glamour in spades as well as strength, confidence. If anyone this time I was thinking of
Carmen Miranda. And Jaffas -orange coated chocolate balls that people used to roll down
the aisles at the movies! This is far and away my most faved pic - a lesson in there to be
more cheerful perhaps?
Btw I also do other things with fractals eg. combining two or more in patterns to make
abstract designs."

Speaking of Carmen Miranda, she found some information to share with all of us:
"Carmen Miranda -(February 9, 1909 – August 5, 1955) was a Portuguese-born samba
singer and actress most active in the 1940s and 1950s. Although born in Portugal, her family
moved to Brazil shortly after her birth. Famous for promoting Brazil all over the world, she
was a Broadway star, the highest paid artist in Hollywood and the highest paid woman in the
United States. She became best-known for her movie appearances, mostly musicals, wearing
a hat with assorted tropical fruit on top, which has since become her iconic image.
As a result of her eclectic style, she is considered the precursor of Brazil's tropicalismo."


I sent Liz a small interview to get to know her better. These are her answers:


1) Where do you live ?

Katoomba, in the Blue Mountains west of Sydney, Australia. I live in a house on stilts high up in the
trees with views of the town, rainforest and the mountain escarpment in the distance. I love nature
and animals and share the residence with many possums, sometimes a fox and every kind of birdlife
particularly parrots - lorikeets and rosellas. I also have a Shih Tzu, a Llasa Apso, a Chihuahua cross
and a fluffy tortoiseshell cat. Oh, I also have two beautiful adult daughters living in Sydney.


2. What is your fav music style ?
I don't have a favourite style, my tastes in music are as wide ranging as my tastes in art,
and literature and poetry have a big place in my life as well. I do always look for the transcendant in
any art form, something that creates an emotional and illuminating response.



3. When did you discover your artistic side and how did it develop ?

I've always been creative in one way or another, it's what fulfils me the most. I've always been
a keen photographer, starting out with photoshop and manipulations, especially black and white.

Charles got my attention when he answered to a comment I wrote on a photography of
another deviant. We exchanged a couple of messages and he stated that he liked to
encourage good comments.
I felt very curious and visited his gallery. This photo´s thumb captured my attention.
I was investigating what kind of comments HE would write on his own photos.
Someone who encourages comments... should comment.
So I picked this one randomly and indeed, he was asking people to comment it and write
their impressions. And the thread was interesting to me.

Since I had already made my own impression about the photo before reading the comments
(wrote them on a word document), I would like to share what effect the full view of the picture
had on me:

Reflections of Life



Modern life and modern rush.
Me, me, me.
All it matters, all I care about.

A man and his son, (it looks like a small child to me and the blanket is also very similar
to the blankets children use), laying on the ground. Resting the father, sleeping the child.
A plastic container with a couple of coins that some caring soul dropped, and a
hand written cardboard box asking for help and mercy.

A woman walks by without even looking twice, as if they were a tree or a stone.
- She has her life, her problems. She doesn’t want her soul to be challenged.
- A man on the corner, looking at them without being seen by others, dissimulating.
He might probably do nothing.

The homeless family (selected?) the entrance of a fancy and expensive fashion shop.
Thinking – probably - that customers would care: they had money to spend.
The beggars’ hope: that humans would care more than the mannequins at the store front.
Some might.
Most won’t.
The sight of poverty makes them run.

And the reflections on the window of the shop show us that the world keeps moving and living.
People walking. Talking. Loving.
And they care as much about the beggar’s as the woman printed on the fashion store’s add.

Once again I ask myself: why?
Who said some should have so much, and others so little?
Many would state that these beggars’ don’t work or that they do nothing.
We will never know.
Yes, they might well have been rich and lost everything while gambling.
Or the father lost his job and never got one back.
Or he was accused of doing something he didn’t.
They might also be foreigners, thinking that a big city would provide better chances of survival.

And I could go on like this forever.
For every plus – there is a minus.
For every negative, a positive.
For every thought or feeling, an excuse or an explanation.

What cannot be denied is that this is the real world we live in.
And if we would ALL care a bit more, it would indeed be a much better place...

I never send mass messages, but I was (am) really tired.

COMO DAR UM COMPRIMIDO A UM GATO



1 - Pegue o gatinho e o aninhe no seu braço esquerdo, como se segurasse um bebê. Coloque o indicador e o polegar da mão direita nos dois lados da boquinha do bichano e aplique uma suave pressão nas bochechas, enquanto segura o comprimido na palma da mão. Quando o amorzinho abrir a boca, atire o comprimido lá dentro. Deixe-o fechar a boquita e engolir.



2 - Recupere o comprimido do chão e o gato de detrás do sofá. Aninhe o gato no braço esquerdo e repita o processo.



3 - Vá buscar o gato no quarto e jogue fora o comprimido meio desfeito.



4 - Retire um novo comprimido da embalagem, aninhe o gato no seu braço enquanto segura firmemente suas patas traseiras com a mão esquerda. Obrigue o gato a abrir as mandíbulas com um lapis e empurre o comprimido com o indicador direito até o fundo da boca. Mantenha a boca do gato fechada enquanto conta até dez.



5 - Recupere o comprimido de dentro do aquário e o gato de cima do armário. Chame a sua esposa no jardim.



6 - Ajoelhe-se no chão com o gato firmemente preso entre os joelhos, segure as patas da frente e de trás. Ignore os rosnados baixos emitidos pelo gato. Peça a sua esposa que segure firmemente a cabeça do gato com uma mão enquanto força a ponta de uma régua para dentro da boca do gato com a outra mão. Deixe cair o comprimindo ao longo da régua e esfregue vigorosamente o pescoço do gato.



7 - Vá buscar o gato do suporte da cortina e retire outro comprimido da embalagem. Tome nota para comprar outra régua e reparar as cortinas. Cuidadosamente, varra os cacos das estatuetas e dos vasos do meio da terra e guarde-os para colar mais tarde.

Este fue uno de los trabajos más dificiles y largos en mi pagina.
Tuve que cortarlo en tres partes (una por idioma) porque no cargaba por su longitud.
Encontre los textos en internet,pero los revisé un poco. EFectuar los links a cada pagina y enviar mensajes avisando que estaba utilizando sus trabajos no fue sencillo.
El esfuerzo valio la pena si les hace sonreir... I yo me divertí, créanme!) Solo espero que Uds. tambien se diviertan!

1. Tome al gato y acúnelo con su brazo izquierdo como si estuviera sosteniendo a un bebé. Posicione los dedos índice y pulgar de su mano izquierda para aplicar una suave presión a las mejillas del gato mientras sostiene la píldora con la derecha. Cuando el gato abra la boca, arroje la píldora dentro. Permítale cerrar la boca con el fin de que trague la píldora.



2. Levante la píldora del suelo y al gato de detrás del sofá. Vuelva a acunar al gato y repita el proceso.



3. Traiga al gato del dormitorio y tire la píldora baboseada a la basura.



4. Tome una nueva píldora de la caja, acune al gato, ahora en su brazo derecho, manteniendo las patas traseras firmemente sujetas con su mano izquierda. Fuerce la apertura de mandíbulas con un lapiz y empuje la píldora dentro de la boca con su dedo pulgar. Mantenga la boca del gato cerrada mientras cuenta hasta diez.



5. Saque la píldora de la pecera y al gato de encima del armario. Llame a su esposa.



6. Arrodíllese en el suelo, sosteniendo el gato firmemente entre sus rodillas. Mantenga las patas traseras y delanteras quietas. Ignore los maullidos furiosos que emite el gato. Pídale a su esposa que sostenga la cabeza del maldito con una mano mientras le abre la boca con una regla. Arroje la píldora dentro y frote vigorosamente la garganta del gato.



7. Saque al gato del riel de la cortina. Traiga otra píldora de la caja. Recuerde comprar una nueva regla y reparar las cortinas. Barra cuidadosamente los trozos de figuras de porcelana para pegarlos luego.

Hello !

Today a DD catched my eye.

Before giving it a I visited the Gallery to see who the photographer was and I found several interesting things and I was very intrigued...




First, HE is a cheerleader and lives in Indonesia. Since cheerleaders dont exist in Uruguay, but I learned on movies that they are usually girls, I was really . The options I could think of were:
a) that HE was a SHE (and the language made her make some mistakes),
b) that there are MALE cheerleaders in Indonesia...
c) or that he is a cheerful person that confused the word.
We might found out if he tells us! And anyway, it caught my interest to investigate further!



The photo above contains... a poem on the comments! So he is a writer, too! (**)
And now I know he is male, because his gallery contains a Self Portrait...
which I was informed minutes ago that this picture is a friend of his, not himself!

He has been on DA since November, 2007 and I thought it was unfair that he had less than 2000 pageviews... so I kept searching interesting things about him...



When I saw this photo, another question arose... Focal length for shot shows 10mm... How can it be 10 mm ? Wouldn´t that be pretty close ? The more I read, the less I understand about photography! (Heeelp!)



Another one I loved... also at 10mm (S.O.S.!!)

He states that he is older than me, which I don´t think, but well...



Maybe the photo explains why he seems to be much younger !!!

Another interesting fact is that his Favorite News are "Amazing Photos with under 100 favs" - issues 2, 3 and 4 ! So he might:
a) be wondering why his photos dont have over 100 favs...

My membership at DA is very young.

Wave Break - Memories of a Woman

Landscapes move us in different ways. Sometimes I write tributes. And sometimes I just write for myself,
because the urge of having a written testimony of my feelings is so overwhelming that I cannot avoid writing...
And this is the effect that this photo had on me, and what it made me remember...

I moved near the sea when I was 8 years old. I learned to love and respect the elements very early.
When I was a teenager I used to walk for hours along the shore of the unending beach, at dusk,
accompanied by my dog, a black doberman called Cruel. Nobody would come near a doberman...
so I felt safe.

Skies could be loaded with black clouds or bright. The wind could be a soft breeze or furiously strong.
The sea could be transparent green or chocolate... and I would - with any weather -
walk my thoughts along the shore when I felt melancholic or needed to be alone to calm down for any reason.

Many times, my tears were dried by the wind or they fell on the small salty lagoons formed by the rocks.
I used to meditate and solve so many situations while walking or sitting. Problems that seem so small today,
but where so important then!
And the sea and it's sky was always there for me.

Sometimes, when I was very sad, the sun would suddently appear from behind the clouds, hurrying to hide
behind the horizon, but showing meanwhile such beauty on its reflections, and painting the clouds
with such amazing colors, that I would take that as a message of hope, feeling comforted and understood.

Other times, when I was mad for some happening at home and the sea was also violent due to some approaching storm,
I ran and climbed the rocks jumping on them, careless, with my dog following me, until I was on the furthest reachable end
where I could see the waves breaking, magnificent, in thousands of white waterdrops and foam, as punishing fists.

Yes...the sea is my friend. And I know I am not the only one.
Many more must have felt the need to share their feelings with the ocean.

Even now, every January, we leave for vacations to the Sea. We spend a whole month near to it, in our hut at Valizas.
The "business owner" turns into a "zero stress mermaid", tanning under the healthy morning sun and enjoying nature,
but mostly running waves with a morey board. And if the ocean is calm, she uses the board to feel safer and leave the coast, swimming towards deeper waters, where nobody else can reach. And closing her eyes she drifts, while her hanging hands caress the dark blue waters.

I have many stories about the sea. The sea and I shared a life and we shared also many adventures of different kinds.
So, no wonder that this specific waterscape brought memories to me... Even if this is a different beach, the sky and the water mix... and the clouds, the drops, the waves and the foam that is seen here might - very well - have been the same that were there when I was 16 or 18 years old!

Becoming the Forest
--------------------------

The Era of Magic was coming to its end.
Humans were becoming more and more audacious and the lands, mountains and forests were no longer safe places for some of its inhabitants.

Very worried, all Middle Age magical creatures held a meeting in a far opening of the forest, hoping to find a solution to their problem.
Suggestions were heard on what could be done to protect themselves from humans and their evil ways and their destruction.

After exchanging ideas for several hours, the most voted motion was to leave the forest and go to the Tomorrow Lands, that humans could never reach due to their mortal condition.

Then, a little fairy called Eywanelith raised her sparkling wand and when she had everybody's attention, she stated that she wanted to stay, explaining why:

"If all of us leave, these land will loose their woods, charms and colors. It will turn into a dark, horrible place with dead weeds and nacked flat earth, populated only by orcs, trolls and monsters. Not all humans are evil and we know that", she stated. "Some are loving, brave and kind. I suggest that each species leaves a member of their race behind, and I will provide them with a specific Forest power for their protection."

The magical creatures kept silent. This suggestion was wise and there was truth in those words. It was painful to leave a member behind, but they understood how important it was to keep the beauty alive. And so, the selection started.

The Mermaids offered Sayani, the youngest of their species.
She was good friends with Eywanelith and was happy to stay. Eywanelith gave her the power of becoming water if a human was approaching, or whenever she wanted.

The Dwarves selected Akim, the strongest of them. He was given the magic of becoming a huge mountain wall or a simple pebble. Stone in all possible formations.

Kaylessa and Aurehen Kennyrlues, two elven siblings, volunteered. She received the magic of becoming leaves of any shape, thickness and size, while he was given the gift of becoming wood in all existing options.

Snowhorn, the eldest of the Unicorns, claimed the honor of representing his race. So, he was given the power of becoming
snow, waterdrops, breeze or myst, or any atmospherical condition.

And Eywanelith saved for herself the Magic of Colors.

The Ritual of Forest Powers had ended. The ones staying kissed their friends good-bye and then held hands forming a perfect circle...and the transformations started.


Sayani melted into a beautiful blue stream while Akim grew, transforming himself into a majestic mountain.

Aurehen kicked the ground with his right foot and his body was sucked by the earth while new nacked trees with empty branches and leafeless bushes raised on different spots, generating a powerful sight.

Then, Kaylessa jumped into the air with extended arms and her body disintegrated into thousands of leaves of different shapes and sizes that flew in different directions towards the nude trees and bushes, covering her brother with a sweet embrace.

Mokilf lifted his horn and sighed, turning into a transparent, warm breeze that rocked the leaves, creating soft waves in the water surface...

But it was only when Eywanelith danced into Colors when the wood became alive and stunning. The whole rainbow covered the leaves with greens, blues, purples, oranges, yellows and reflections, dying the water and painting the mountain walls with sparkles.

"Goodbye, dear Friends", Eywanelith said, "go now and be safe. We will be the keepers of The Beauty for the ages to come, protected by these unique powers, bringing joy to humans with pure souls"

Waving, the magical creatures left the place.

"Goodbye to Life"
-----------------

The salt of her endless tears awakened the ocean.
The whistling wind brought the call through the cracks of her closed bedroom window.
Tired of crying, tired of suffering, with a broken heart and hopeless,
she decided to go.

Nobody saw her departing that late afternoon...
no one saw her leaving, silently and decided.
Her bare feet painted a footprints' path on the sand
so soft and so small, that it was almost ghostly.

Her black dress moved by the breeze waved a last goodbye to the past
and without hesitation she accepted the cold embrace of the waves.
Walking straight, numb and hypnotized towards the sunset
feeling like a mermaid to be.

And that night, finally, she slept peacefully in the depths of the sea.

"On the Way to Osaka"
-------------------------

She smiles with the timid shyness of the oriental people...
and he seems to be so proud of her.

Who knows how long this couple has been together...
Probably for many, many years.
They might even have gotten married
because their families made the arrangements,
and they just had to.

She was young and prepared to be a good housewife.
She found him handsome.
He was a hard worker of the middle class,
He found her pretty.
Love was then secondary
and respect and tenderness took at first the place of love.

It took time for them to adapt to each other.
They built their lives step by step.
They had one child and since then
they joined efforts to feed, raise and educate him.

One day, not long ago, he got married and left the parental home.
She cried a bit... and her husband comforted her.
The time had returned to be with each other again.

Yesterday they were called by their son
who gave them the best news, ever.

Both grandparents are now on their way to Osaka,
to meet their new grandson,
and their mutual love
and the happiness they feel
is shown in their faces.

"Un Puente sobre las Nubes"

Atardece en Carrasqueira;
y las montanhas
le prestan al horizonte
su bella estampa

En sinfonia de colores
el sol estalla
robando del arcoiris
los tonos malva

El agua se vuelve nube
la brisa es calma
y al puente de tonos rosa
el alma canta !

This is one of the most stunning photos I have seen here!
I know that some of my English speaking friends read my Journal
and they wont be able to understand this poem, so I am translating
it. Regretfully, it will not rhyme translated.
I could also use help in improving the translation.
Suggestions are welcome!)

"A Bridge over the Clouds"

The dusk comes to Carrasqueira
and the mountains
lend their beautiful shape
to the horizon

The sun explodes
in a symphony of colors
stealing all mauve colors
from the rainbow

The water turns into clouds,
the breeze is calm,
and the soul cant help singing
to the bridge dyed in pink !

" Contact at Entrance 2 "

She walked slowly down the street and there it was...
The familiar restaurant with the small tables with white tablecloths where the last coffee was drank and the promises were spoken. Her mind went back to October, 1944...

"I will be back, I promise", he said to her with confidence.
" Will you ?" she asked with a trembling voice.
" I promise I will, one way or another. Nothing will keep me away from you..."
" Will you be careful? ", she begged, her eyes filled with tears, "this is a dangerous world now."
He smiled tenderly and his black eyes sparkled as he nodded a yes.
Their fingertips touched over the table, and that was their last kiss. It would have been too dangerous to show more in public.

As she had done once a year during the last 6 years, she reached the door of the old abandoned building and looked inside. A deep sigh escaped her chest and her heart shrinked. She ran to the mailboxes and she felt dizzy when she saw something coming out of the mailbox.

"Szeretlek kicsim. Im heading home. Isten engem úgy segéljen"

She placed the telegramm near her heart, raised both hands to heaven with a silent "thanks" ... and this time she went back home with a singing heart and a bright smile on her tear-eyed face.

The Hut

I once sheltered a family and I was shiny and painted.
The air around me was filled with laughter and love.

But times changed... civilization called... money was needed...
and I had to be abandoned to pursuit different dreams.

For years nothing echoed in me. I was getting dusty and feeling so lonesome.
The winds, the storms, the sun and the years damaged my skin.
I thought I was so ugly...

Then one day, someone came by and looked at me.
He took something from a bag and I saw him targetting me.
And then he smiled and I could hear his heart throwing waves of love and
good energy at me.

That day I realized that beauty is relative and that in many ways I was
more beautiful now than I had ever been.
And that - in more than one way - I was still a shelter !

Happiness is different for everyone and everyone has reasons to act as they do.


When I first entered Deviantart, as I stated in my "Loving Deviantart" entry, my goal was to add pictures to favorites and that was it. Then, I learned to share and communicate.


But the process continued. I noticed that most comments on most works were just "Nice" or "Beautiful" ... but what I felt when I started looking at many pictures was much more than "nice work" or "good shot".

There was a person behind the camera, taking the picture. I might not know that person, but... why should that make a difference ? So I innerly took some decisions:

1) I would never say those words only. If I added a picture to my favorites, I was doing it for a reason. There was something captivating my attention, speaking to me. And the photographer, the artist, the owner of the art... deserved the reward of knowing what that was.

It wouldnt mind to me if the one receiving my comment on the other side cared about it or not. This was about my balance. My choice. About not just taking... but giving my impression in exchange.

Yes, it takes time (specially because I speak Spanish!), but I enjoy finding WHY I like a picture.


2) I would never add a picture to my Favorites unless it moved my heart in some way. Doing otherwise would be like greed. Having art that I would never look at again.

3) Before thanking someone for having favored one of my pictures,
I would visit his/her Gallery. This would allow me to see what kind of artist it was, or what this person was normally collecting, what country this person was in, if his art/favorites was something I liked or not and if I could say something gentle to him/her more than "Thanks for the Fav".
And if I liked their art, I could immediately add them to my watch and go back later to enjoy what they had to offer.

This causes that I cant upload pictures everyday. But also here, I will find a balance. Because some days I might just want to upload. Other days, I might just want to enjoy the work from others... and some days I might want to write on my Journal

All the pictures under my name are natural. I dont know how to work on one.
Nevertheless, the only use I would ever give to a program is to remove some nylon bags or bottles ... or stamped dates

All what has been uploaded is pure amateur photography.
I started uploading here only a couple of days ago and when the pictures
were taken I didnt even know that Deviantart or Blogs existed.
I am pretty new to this world!

Having said this, I want to give my honest thanks to those who have picked
some photos from my Gallery and made them their favs. That is very encouraging and I am so happy to share what I find beautiful with others and see they like it too.

And special thanks to those watching!! There is much more to come.

Last and least, be expecting some more stories.
I will be uploading a series of 13 pictures in a row that will show how
one of the floods sank a boat, and how the boat was rescued.
It took a whole day and it might be interesting to see all the fishermen did, and who helped.

It was hard at the beginning to understand how this worked.
I thought it was all about adding pictures I liked to Favorites.

After adding a couple... I saw a "note".
It said: " thanks ".
I thought... "??? who is thanking me and why ?"

Somehow I managed to answer back and the guy (Challenger3)
answered: " Thanks for the fav!".

I was amused. I had no idea that I could communicate and that
someone would even NOTICE that I liked their work.
But that encouraged me to SHARE. Someone might like what I had
on my computer. My pictures.

So today I performed my first uploads thinking that in time someone could fav something. I was stunned to see it was like
in the act !

Remembering how good it felt to receive the "thanks", I did the same. And I did it very honestly. I was loving that my pictures were accepted ! I was and am thankful for that, because it means that my concept of what is interesting or beautiful or different is shared by others.

And a nice surprise was to get an inquiry to inform more about the place I took the pictures from a guy in Mexico (sorry that I dont remember his name right now, this idea of writing this on the journal came all of a sudden to my head!).

So I answered on the picture with a comment.

I am thankful to those that liked my pictures. Many were taken with an old, simple camera. I have a better one today and the future pictures will be better.

I will be uploading some tonight. On the Water Reflection series.

I am so thankful to Challenger3, who is helping me get familiar with
Deviantart.

I love the art shown here... everybody is so skilled!

My art is photography, writing and poetry (I am a native Spanish speaker).
I have started with some poetry in English not long ago and I am
loving the experience of searching for the right words that will
express my feelings accurately.

I will soon upload some of my photos, when I understand how this works
and how to protect my work (if possible).

I am glad to be here and I will continue feeding my soul with the
amazing artworks I find.
