I mean, i like blood spilt in movies, and epic fights and all that nonsense action and killing spree and blah blah blah.... But, I like it more when there's respect to the real facts and in general the thruth.
It's really disturbing when things are mistaken.
Anyways, this whole thing is about Mel Gibson's movie, Apocalypto, even though I'm basically saying this for all of the others directors that decided to make an historycal fact a hollywood blockbuster.
You may not consider it racism, but ignorance.
Besides of the tons of wrong cultural elements and details, there's an stupid interpretation and visualization of the organisation and typical life style of the Mayan.
First of all, dont get carried away just cuz its spoken in this supposely "original language", dictionaries are quite useful nowadays.
And wtf by saying "it was cheap to make the movie cuz the payment to mexican actors n crew wasn't much", as paying to a bloody american crew ."Cholos" and "mojados" do whatever for a lil money in the border and they're exploited, so, that means they don't deserve a fine and fair payment, isn't knowledge suppossed to be fair paid too?
Second, mateys, we've got this confused ideas mixing Aztec and Mayan cultures, okay, i know that both are the most known worldwide mesoamerican cultures, but, they're hell different! -___- I can excuse ye from Kukulcan and Quetzalcotal (cuz it's the same guy, the snake with feathers), but, the sacrifices were taken differently, and it varies in both cultures. Not just any guy next door could be sacrificed, besides, it was a real honour!!! Mainly, the ones to be sacrificed were members of nobel or powerful (in a manner of speaking) family, virgins or the winners of a "Ball game" match (yup, the winner mateys). These people had to be well prepared both physically and mentally, for they were giving the gods (or god) not the body, but the soul, which was mainly what really mattered. This was never done in such a massive way, like Holocaustic, and for heaven's sake the bodies weren't just laying in camps, field of rotting? sounds like shit to me... The bodies were buried or put in "cenotes" (this are like some sorta caverns, which were sacred). The sacrifice, being a very important religious ceremony, was not any kind of amusement, ¬_¬ nor a thing to be jumping like a monkey wanting to see blood split and a headless body, like in some kinda action movie or Bloody Vald Dracul!, understand, dying that way was stupid, but it was a way to thank the gods, not just a hobby or a diversion. The priest were wise and dedicated astronomers. I do not deny people been killed, and i know it sounds unreasonable in this era, i just say the Mayan, and other cultures, didn't just say, "oi, dude, let's go choose some stupid sad bastard to kill", or " matey, killing spree sure is fun, yay!".... >_< wot about Salem's witch hunt, eh? or nuclear bombs in Nagasaki and Hiroshima!!! >_< racism to afro american people, the homophobia, there were deads there tooo!!!!!--___-- ok, sorry if i offended american people for that...
¬_¬ Also, yes, Mayan culture was settled in a Jungle, but, cities weren't rainforest like, what about the the architecture, the artwork, the sanitation systems developed, as well, there weren't gangs, or slave traders! Open a book, and find out that the social system was quite well organized and clear! You were born to agriculture, slavery, noble, priest!!!LIKE ANTS!
The Roman empire fell for the exceses, i don't say this whole organization thingie in mesoamerican cultures was the best, but the orientation of everything they did was religious, so, different from our present political issues, in mexico for example, there was no corruption, cuz a destiny had to be fullfilled, for living the real life, the after death life; this means, pleasure was expected to be found in death, not in the world we know. There was no despotic, sadistic, psycothic issues in the social life, we aint talking about the second world war!!!
The men that came to America from Europe, really just help mixing the worst parts of both continents, i really don't mean the encounter was bad, i mean, there was progress too, but well, they were consumed by greed, and didn't take advantage of the knowledge and culture and focused in erradicate what ever seemed to be different, xenophobia.
