Made two new friends for my birthday! 2. Attended a poetry reading/tea party tonight (no, there were no bongos; we made up for it with the sheer awesomeness of our readings). 3. Purchased a jump rope and a silly card game and books for Bday presents (I will probably have to return the books because attempting to cheat the textbook system never works out). 4. Got pretty flowers from my sister, orange rolls from my roommate, ice cream from other roomate, pint of Cold Stone ice cream and book and card from one of my new friends, and many wonderful cards full of wonderful wishes and gifts from all my family members! Of course, though, I forgot to check my mail for two days straight...D'oh. XP The plus side is that nobody's card was late this way! Thank you all, very much! 5. Learned how to make paper snowflakes. 6. In and Out Provo is now open. Woot. 7. Got out of having to write a paper just in time for my birthday. 8. This has quite possibly been the weirdest birthday ever, because it's basically lasted for three days in very small increments, and looks like it's stretching onto a fourth since my kind housemate decided that it was necessary to purchase some kind of nonalcoholic bubbly for dinner tomorrow. It's just been a very busy school week for everybody, so people are basically celebrating when they can. Kind of odd, but today was very fun. 9. Also, I'm OLD. 10. The first half of The Italian Job is hilarious (DVD stopped working halfway through, bah). 11. "This lemonade is weak---just like your soul." <---A quote shared at our Poetry Party tonight. I have no idea where it's from, or even what it's supposed to mean, but it's stuck in my head and if you've read this now it's in your brain cells too. >:}

ST. CATHERINE'S FEAST DAY: So one of my housemates is very interested in feminism and religion. Her two favorite women are the Hindu goddess Duraga and the Catholic St. Catherine. So we partied for Durga's celebration week, and on St. Catherine's day she made us party too. Since St. Catherine is the saint of young, unmarried women and hatmakers, young unwed women are supposed to wear a hat and do something fun on her day. XD We ended up just going shopping and I got a hat since I didn't own one. It looks very cute on me, thank you very much. And no, I have no idea if my friend made up this 'St. Catherine party' thing or not. She probably did. It was fun anyway, and a good reminder to all of us to never marry anyone uglier or stupider or....pagan-er...than we are. Although in all honesty if a pagan prince wanted to marry me I'd probably say yes if he was nice. If he wasn't, I don't think I'd let him put me on a spiked wheel. I think I'd hire a hit man.

This is why I'm not a Catholic saint, people. u.u

THANKSGIVING: Went to my cousin's house and spent the day playing with their 3-year-old son, who is very smart and VERY hyper. He's an energetic little tornado, but he talks very fluently and had us read to him from plumbing manuals. So basically he's a hoot and a half. Oh, and the food was good. VERY good.

Features

<span cla...

Bad News: My laptop has finally hardcore crashed. After three years of hard work, it bit the dust. This wouldn't be such a big deal (the screen was cracked and I had to get a new one this summer anyway), except it crashed BEFORE I could back up my files. I have a STOP Error blue screen of death that greets me when I turn it on; apparently those are usually fixable but I have to pay forty bucks for troubleshooting over the phone before anyone will look at it (don't want to do that; the folks at Dell all are Malaysian and have difficult accents). Else I pay seventy bucks for a geek squad fixup.

The question is: I need to get files and programs for my new computer. Is that possible without repairing the old one? If I don't have to spend money on a computer I basically have to trash anyway, that would make me really, really happy.

Also, my cell phone broke the same day as the laptop. It still calls and stuff but the screen is all purple. Cell phone is also three years old; i get to switch for a new one in August at least. And I don't use it very much so that's not that crucial.

Also ALSO, I might have strep throat. XD But I guess I can't cuz I had it already, but I have SOMETHING that attacks my throat with a pain-giving wand of death. So yes. Fun times for me, yay.

Good News: I have gotten very, very good at making earrings. I use Swarovski crystal and sterling silver when I can, although I have to say nearly everything in Michael's and Joann's has a 'made in China' label. So it's probably all full of lead anyway. Lol.

Regardless, I haven't gotten lead poisoning yet and I've been wearing my own creations for a little over a year now--never had my skin change funky colors or get infected, although I have zero metal allergies so I guess I can't speak for everyone. I'm thinking about setting up comissions. I'll try to get a few photos up, then I'd appreciate people telling me what they think! (I already know maximum price would be about 20 dollars; that would buy sterling silver and Swarovski dangles and cover the cost of shipping as well).

Wow. I finally got tagged. XD and now I don't know what to do! I got tagged by

The rules go like this:
1 / post these rules
2/ each person tagged, must post 8 random facts about themselves (hope it's interesting)
3/ tags should write a blogpost of these facts
4/ at the end of the post, 8 more bloggers are tagged and named
5/ go to their blog, leave a comment telling them they are tagged

Okay. .___. um, here goes, I guess...although I'm really not that interesting
1) I have never in my life managed to blow up a balloon without using a helium thingie. I have no problem inflating swimmy floaties or beach balls or ANYTHING but those stupid rubber balloons. On the same note I can't stand the sound of them popping either.
2)I'm left-handed. It's a pain in the butt when I write or draw because the paper smudges, and a pain in the butt when I play the piano because the left hand is not supposed to sound stronger most of the time (it's usually in charge of harmony). BUT I have really nice handwriting that a ton of people have told me looks like it's typed so I guess I can't complain. ^^
3) I am deathly allergic to penicillin, amoxicillin, sulfa, and all other acephalosporin drugs. They give me hives and cause me to stop breathing. So I live and pray that I don't get something really serious because I think that's every antibiotic on the market.
4) My dad is in the military and always gets sent all over the place. When I was really little I was always excited for him to go because I knew I'd get cool stuff when he got back. I guess that's shameful but I never worried that he would be hurt because he's a smart guy who does what he feels is right all the time. I still have all my stuff
5) I lived in Germany for five years and I really loved it, except for one time when the little German kids saw me and got mad that I was there and started throwing sand and chanting "american, American". That's my one bad memory, though--a lot of the kids in the village would let us play soccer with them and one girl next door let us play with her rabbits and her jump rope. And of course we couldn't understand each other, but almost everyone was so nice! I love Germany
6) I love everywhere else in the world, too. I'm obsessed with culture and language and people and literature and music and religions and ALL that stuff that comes with it. I just think we have a very beautiful world with a beautiful variety of people and I want to learn about it all! (Eastern Europe is the best. It doesn't get the good attention it deserves).
7)I am a voracious reader who hates Jane Austen. I know, it doesn't happen, right? But it's true! I'll read just about anything you can throw at me but I can't stand how that woman writes. I've never been able to finish one of her books...and yet I devour Tolkien, whose writing is even MORE difficult. Go figure.
8)I've been bitten by a poodle and once lost my shoe in the emu pen at the zoo. OH. AND I GOT TO HOLD A DUCKLING MY LIFE IS NOW COMPLETE!

Okay that's eight things. And now I tag....

I'm back from school now and i have to say its' been a really weird adjustment. My family and i aren't getting along so well anymore...befcause they're pushing me and i'm being a jerk back, since i hate being pushed. And yet if I'm NOT being pushed I don't get anything done. I'm not sure what's wrong with me but I'm not liking the situation here.
I got a decent job I enjoy but it doesnt' give me enough hours, so I have to find another one. Sigh. I don't mind working two jobs but I hate getting stuck in a job I, well, hate, so I don't know how I'm going to handle this. I desperately need money to get back to school, but I'm not willing to earn it because I guess I'm too lazy to sacrifice for it....I mistrust a lot of people in general, so I don't function well in a job that forces me to work with difficult fellow workers. I need to work with nice people. u.u
On the other hand, I'm considering publishing things. I was thinking perhaps for a magazine or travel journal, because my fiction work isn't quite up to snuff yet (I can tell. I need to work on my tenses. ) I have a lot of experience overseas and I write journalistically quite well. I don't know that anyone will read this but if they do and they know anything about writing and publishing, could they drop me a line with some basic tips or ideas, or even contest knowledge? i'm not really sure how and where to start and that's really my main problem. That and the crushing fear mosts artists have about the quality of their work, but I figure that I might as well try.
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

PS. I have a dog. And she's really, really, really, cute. That's my random thought of the day.

To all those people watching me right now, I'd like to thank you. I give the majority of you my SINCEREST gratitude for never once commenting on my page. But of course, it got me the ALL IMPORTANT PAGEVIEWS so, who cares?
I'd just like to point out that deviantart is supposed to be a place for artists to critique one another in a quest for improvement, not a popularity contest. I'd like to point out that so many people on this site comment in regard to a viewpoint that was expressed and not on the actual art. And i'd like to point out that these people are totally missing the point.
For those out there who don't grasp that, get a clue and go somewhere else. For those out there who are going to get offended, don't because a). i'm approaching the deadly college finals and i don't care about/don't want to deal with your crap, b).i'm approaching the deadly college finals and i'm not anywhere near my normal self, and c). this is my webpage. I'm the dictator and i say i'm not dealing with your crap. It's that simple.

Whoo! I'm finally here, and it is nothing short of AWESOME. I've gone five days without seeing down a girl's butt or chest and I've gone five days without hearing a single swear word and everyone here is so nice and friendly. It's incredible to go to Orientation and begin with a hymn and a prayer, and it's really nice to not have to be afraid for once in my life. Those who are not a member of a widely misunderstood religion can have no idea how much it sucks to live in fear of the ignorance and cruelty of others, and can have no idea how it is to walk to a church function and have to walk past people holding signs and shouting that we're devil worshippers. They can have no idea how it is to watch their little sister clinging to her mother while these jerks are telling the nine year old girl that she's going to hell. Oh, and we have to set a better example so we can't ever tell them to shut up and worry about their own miserable little lives. >.> Not that i'm bitter or anything.
Back to the POSITIVE, this campus is so full of love. The people are good and beautiful and intelligent, and the school is just filled with the spirit of fellowship and Christ's love. I don't know that I would have survived away from home anywhere but here, where we aren't here to compete but to lift each other up. It's a very positive experience. It's also great to actually have school spirit due to the fact that we all chose to be here...another benefit of that is that there aren't idiots at college. It's a relief not to smell pot in the hallways and a relief not to have to cringe at some of the kid's lack of mental intellect.
Basically I'm still shy and I still am afraid of talking to people I don't know, but the fear is lessened here around so many wonderful people and at such a wonderful school. I'm not worried that I'm going to curl up and die here--I'm looking forward to what I can learn. Go school go!

Merry Christmas! (Happy Hanukkah if you're Jewish). It was a fairly good Christmas, except my dog Missy ran away this afternoon and we spent a lot of time looking for her and I was starting to get all worried and depressed and we finally got a hold of her, so, all's well end's well, right?
Yesterday we made our traditional pierogies-dumplings with fillings like onions and potatoes or cheese. You boil them and then eat them, and on Christmas Eve we break the "oplatke." We aren't Catholic, but my mom's family is, so every Christmas Eve we break the ....wafer thing they use for Catholic Services and eat it. O_O Don't ask me why-even with honey those things taste gross, but the entire family is doing it at the same time, so I guess it's cool.
I want to save some pierogi for Bri to try. My roleplay character made them, so it would be pretty funny if I gave her some made by my own hands. ^^ Pierogi are fun because you have to mix the dough with your bare hands and they get all goopy and eggy and you can chase your siblings around with them.....*cough*
For Christmas, I made two people posters (one of Full Metal Alchemist, great series and one of Beauty and the Beast) and they fully wigged out. Those were a lot of work though, so I prefer to buy stuff. My arm cramps after erasing too much, and almost always draw while lying on my stomach, so I start to lose feeling in my limbs after an hour or so. Oh well.
Bri made me a plushie of Samuel and I've been carrying him around all over the place. He fits in my coat pocket, so he keeps me extra warm and now I can brandish this plushie at anyone who threatens me. O_O Sammy has given me quite a bit of inspiration over the past few days...just cuz he's cute.
I am excited for the acrylic supplies I got today-I actually have a semi good handle on acrylics and therefore have some hope of producing worthwhile art out of them. i hope.
Got lots of clothing and earrings today....lots of pretty earrrings...my mom passed down some gold hoops she has my dad got from Turkey, so that was pretty cool. And she gave me a very pretty carved box she got while we were in Poland, so of course i'm excited about that. Bri knows why.
Er...oh, piano music to "Bless the Broken Road" and "Schindler's List." Makes me happy...even more so to learn that i had picked it out in the right key.
But the bestest gift of all today was my dog coming home. She's an idiot mutt but I love her so much it's unhealthy. Thank you very much for a Christmas miracle.
Oh, yeah. My family went to see the Chronicles of Narnia. That was absolutely wonderful.....the effects were stunning, actors were great, and Aslan was ABSOLUTELY PERFECT. I LOVE LOVE LOVE LIAM NEESON. CHYESS. And the centaurs were great...I knew certain friends of mine would flip out if they saw them. There were girl centaurs!!!! Coolness!.....But yes, Aslan was great. Go see it if you get the chance. I would have preferred to go with only friends, but still, it was great. Except for when my ding-dong mother started applauding really loudly after the part with the centaur general and the two swords (which is good, because she never reacts to movies), but she was the only one clapping. How embarrassing. My sister kicked her chair.
Shalom!

Well, it took me long enough to figure out how to do this.....I'm afraid my friend Linne and...*cough* Cedric will be disappointed to see that I won't have any art on this site as I lack a scanner and a good digital camera.

Still, this site rocks because I can look at other people's art! Yes! And I think it's easier than LiveJournal.

December 19 2005

Not much happening today-we were supposed to go to DC but pushed it to tomorrow. So my life today pretty much consists of cleaning the bathrooms and doing laundry. Boring.

Maybe Bri will be done with plushies today?....I'd bug Linne but she moved to Nebraska.

Hello Nuhor, it's great to see you commented....sorry I didn't write back, I didn't know I had a site. I just joined to bug my friends.
Heehee.

Yesterday I tried to make paper dolls of Sam and Marszenka. I was pretty bored then too. It failed, but I'm going to try again because if I could actually do it that would be oh so much fun to play with! I love 1940's outfits! I would do Kraus too, but i don't like him and at any rate he's really hard for me to draw. Sigh. But if I could just get Sam into a zoot suit.....*squee*

My sister's are watching the Barbie Nutcracker. Yeesh.

I wanna see that Charlotte Gray movie.....bleargh. My parents got all mad at me for buying Bri a "teach yourself Nazi Germany" book for Christmas. "Haley, that's horrible! What does that have to do with Christmas? etc etc"...Whatever. it's a rather nice book....covers the basics of every side of the story...resistance included....heehee.

I bought Hannukah socks! They're soooo cute! *huggle*

Ok, I guess I'm done.
Auf Wiedersehen.
