It's been a busy month, but I finally got around to judging that story contest. Big heartfelt thanks to those of you who entered the contest.

The entrants and the short versions of their arcs (in order of submission) were as follows:

A fight between Pounce and Trans results in Dr. Stanley Renfield becoming transmuted by his nanobot project into a living machine. Trans and Pounce must join forces to defeat Renfield, who has been driven slightly mad by the transformation, and seeks to destroy them both. (Read SL's writeup on Renfield's powers and mindset here: [link])

Dr. Lankanovitch, the mad scientist who inadvertently created Pounce in his own quest for physical perfection, captures Trans to extract the source of her powers.

A lost other-dimensional(?) being does his part to help Pounce face some of her inner demons, while helping Trans and Arma deal with the rampant criminal element encroaching on the city (read the full writeup here: [link]).

All of these were well written, and did what they were supposed to- helped me get my creativity moving. After re-reading all the entries, I came up with hugely ambitious storylines involving these and other characters, because they seemed to fit together rather well. I will probably end up cobbling something together using bits of all three, but this here's a contest, so I need to declare some prize thingies.

Therefore, for the art portion of the prize pool, I'm calling a tie. Everyone gets a colored pic of their new character. Period. Contestants, note me regarding poses (or states of transformation in some cases), if you have a preference.

However! There is still the matter of the subscription that offered, which is a sticky wicket, because now I have to declare a first place winner.

So, here are my thoughts on the entries, in reverse order.

:
It's a little dense, and hard to follow at times. I really like the character, but had a hard time figuring out his motivations. I got a little confused toward the end when the gangs started showing up.

However! I really liked that you set up some seven degrees of separation in the backstory, and had it play out in the course of your arc, letting it tie the characters that much closer together. I think that the story might have been stronger if you played up the connection that Blackhole was able to form between Trans and Pounce separately, and perhaps play both ends against the middle, so to speak. Maybe get to the heart of the matter and help Trans resolve (or start to resolve) the issue.

:
The story meshed with a few things that I had been mulling over, like SCIENCE! It's a pretty simple concept, and that's not a bad thing, especially as you mentioned that the Doc could/should be a recurring villain. The story you've written serves well to introduce him and give him a reason to come back, through other agents or perhaps in some sort of modified form (assuming that he was able to get over the immobility part).

The process bit at the end seemed a little tacked-on, but it didn't hurt it much. I wouldn't have minded seeing more of what you'd liked to have put in in terms of process actually incorporated into the story. I'd also have liked to see your thoughts on how Trans and Arma got their powers.

: <br /...

Those of you watching this space have no doubt seen the last few Trans commission images I've uploaded.

Well, so has and at his blog, [link] , he says this about Trans being my OC (emphasis added):

"That's probably a typo as Trans is the FTF10 mascot... and my original character."

However, this isn't entirely true. Trans was born on the Overflowing Forum in a contest that Prophet ran while seeking a mascot for his site. She originally had the name "Dix," as a nod to Ten, but go ahead and read the thread here: [link]

If you're not in the mood to read it, there was no art direction (read as: no creative input, or any sort of investment in the character other than wanting her made,) aside from this:

"Oh, it's really supposed to be open to the artist.

If we want some parameters...

Let's call her Trans, she's a fairly shy, petite and demure girl who works at some nameless company where she often gets involved in "accidents" that result in her being transformed in one way or another.

Is that enough?"

While the NAME "Trans" belongs to Prophet, the character, the is rightfully mine.

Considering that first and foremost, she's not even the character that Prophet describes, (meaning that he had no real input as to what she looked like, did, or anything else) no rights to her were ever transferred, his exact words on the subject (emphasis added) were:

"... I'm not sure what I can offer as a prize except having your work associated with my site and my not inconsequential gratitude..."

and Prophet worked on her color scheme together when Lightfoot did a piece for the FT10 anniversary, and I use the colors because they work. Oddly enough, Lightfoot credits us both in the piece, but there is no umbrage taken there.

Furthermore, when he did another piece celebrating FT10's reaching 1,000,000 hits, he points out that he referenced my concept work for her.

In closing, this is where I stand on the whole thing:

I'm more confused and a little hurt about the fact that Prophet would claim that he made the character than anything else. The fact that I'm claiming her (as I ought to) shouldn't be an issue for concern.

If Prophet is upset because I'm claiming the character that I created for his site's contest as my creation, then there's nothing I can do about it. I just wish that he wouldn't incite other people to come bother me about it. I'm going to keep drawing her, and I'm going to keep claiming her as mine.

And the story contest [link] ends this Wednesday. I know some of you were thinking of throwing hats in, if you really need more time, let me know.

Commission work was on serious hold for awhile because I was looking for other work and waiting for feedback- basically, while I was waiting for feedback on the Secret Project, I was working on the Grape Animation, but then (long story short) I suddenly needed a job.

But some freelance work is coming down the pike, so I can stop spending *quite* so much time looking to attract work and actually working. It's a little frustrating because it's taking an ungodly amount of time to finish these two animations, but everyone's been real good about it, so next week I will be getting back on that horse.

sent me a LONG submission for the story arc contest featuring his newly-minted character, Stanley Renfield. It's interesting, some of the ideas that he came up with are close to what I had in mind; I wonder if anyone else will put their hat in the ring.

Dexcon was something of a success. I got a pair of non-adult commissions out of it, and I've been working on them, along with meting some other people who might be good to know down the line. I'm still preparing for GenCon, but I have business cards coming in the mail along with some other self-promotional material, and a friend is going to help me prepare for the Art Show, so it's all good. I just need to keep breathing.

I didn't mention it, but I went to see my twin brother this week. He gave me his old laptop, which is still a comprable machine- it runs PS, and that's all I really need it to do. So now I can be mobile, if I get a new battery for it.

Oh yeah, and boobs. There's a skajillion deviations in my DevWatch, and I've been trying to comment intelligently on as many of them as I can, but i'm going to have to let some of them go, or I'll never get anything done. Also makes me want to post something myself...

I have a 2/3 done sketch for 's Expansion Mishap contest; I need to finish the sketch at least before the deadline, make them look like the characters they're supposed to be and not just some curvy faceless chicks. And there's other stuff just sitting around...

Gah. Same old problem, not enough hours in the day, or they somehow get misappropriated.

So you've seen the stat cards that I put up recently. I left the backgrounds a little vague because while I have ideas about the backstory, I'm not entirely convinced that these ideas of mine are any good.

That's where you come in.

The contest, if you should choose to enter it, is to come up with a story arc (EDIT: Not a full script!)that includes the three characters that I've posted profiles for:
Arma: [link]
[link]
Pounce: [link]
[link]
and of course, Trans: [link]
[link]

And one other character... created by YOU!:woot:

If you want to see your OC interact with mine, that's fine, but I won't tolerate a Mary Sue. Click the link to see what I mean.

If you create a character specifically for the contest and you win, understand that you'll be sharing that character with me. You'll be credited as the creator of that character, but the final say in what happens in the story lies with me, even if I use your arc as a starting point. If this makes you uncomfortable, please don't enter this contest. If you don't win, you've come up with a new character! Yay!

There are a few things that you should make sure that you cover/be aware of, to increase your chances of winning:

Pounce and Trans are enemies. However, at the moment, the reason for their mutual dislike is unknown. Why do they hate each other?

Where does your character stand in their conflict?

Where did everyone's powers come from? Arma is an "unknown force" that causes Shelly to change, but aside from that, nothing is defined. Pounce's shapeshifting ability and Trans' talisman necklace also currently have no origins; they just exist.

How does the story arc end? Is there a Dramatic Battle? A nonviolent confrontation? Does Godzilla show up and kill everyone? I've been mulling these and a few other alternatives over in my head, but would like to see what you come up with.

Try to make sure that your character fills a niche that hasn't already been filled, that is, make sure that their powers and so on are unique, or at least don't overlap too much. (IE: try not to come up with another strong, flying character.) I'll take out a secondary character if it turns out that their powers are similar to yours; this is why I haven't posted anything for them yet.

You've seen my gallery. You know what I like. If your character is a huge deviation from that norm (and frankly, it's a pretty broad norm), there ought to be a good reason for it. There's no reason why you can't make a male character, though. Futas, goo girls, and pregnant/fat men fall into that "ought to be a good reason" category, for instance. I'm sure there's other Rule 34 stuff out there.

Entries will be judged on how compelling the story arc and character concepts are. Poor grammar/punctuation will not disqualify you!
Things aren't so great over here. I need to go to bed so I will spare you the emo, but suffice it to say that I am somewhat stressed out and have not been doing my duty (such as it is) as much as I should.

The animations... have been stalling. I REALLY need to make some headway, as I have been working on them both for FAR too long now. I'm waiting for some feedback on the Secret Project, but I will be spending a largish chunk of time on Grape in the meantime. I'll be hammering out the rest of the butt expansion and going back to put faces and things on the rest of it.

I also have some things that I want to do for some deviants around here. I just need to make the time and do them. More on those as they happen.

In other news, I'm one new image away from 25K; if I post a new animation I'll break it fo' sho. To take my mind off of Real Life troubles, I'm thinking of scanning/posting some of my more regular stuff as well as posting the remaining "Amanda's Story" images. These last few parts of AS are less vore-ish; those of you who like a bit of belly art should enjoy them. I think.

I'm cooking up a contest. I'm thinking that it'll be more of a story-based contest than an art contest. We'll see. I'm also debating something commission-y, a sort of "Recession Special," in light of the fact that so many people seem to be broke. More on those as they unfold.

Anyway, I'm going to bed. Be good, people.

Probably something next week. The Super-Secret Project is 95% done code-wise, and I heard back from the client this week re: Art Stuff, so I will be pressing on with that as well. I'm ultra-excited about almost being done with that; all that's left is a lot of coloring. Also, I've learned a TON about ActionScript by working on this project that I will use In Real Life as well as other projects here, I'm sure.

I need to get around to editing and posting the rest of Amanda's Story, but from the overall response you guys are not so big on vore, it seems.

And last, but not least: If I ran a contest of some kind with art (still images or maybe a single comic page) as the prize, would you be interested in entering?

Thanks for stopping in and reading.
-MT

For refreshment, start here: [link] , and work your way up.

And those of you who have been watching this space probably have already seen the progress that I've been making on 's animation. If you somehow have not, then go back and look. I'm really psyched about people actually leaving comments on my work lately- we refer to ourselves as a "community," but a lot of the time, I feel disconnected from it, which kind of puts a damper on my drive to scan/color/post. Well, that, and Real Life, but that's a large part of it.

As for the Secret Project(TM), I'm waiting on some client feedback, and programming bells and whistles in the meantime.

I am also trying to squeak something out for 's contest; I've been bending my brain trying to come up with something original. I haven't yet, and the EXTREME deadline is around the corner.

And there's the vore stuff that I've been posting recently. There's 2 more in that series, and I've got a pile of other non-vore sketches sitting around, and some of them will even make it to the internets.
(This'll keep popping back up as more people are added. Since I'm writing critiques, I figure you won't mind too much.)

I'd have posted this sooner, but I didn't know that I'd made people's lists. Anyhow, the idea is that the first 15 or so, including people that have featured you, are supposed to be featured in the journal. I asked to be featured in a few journals, starting with then , and then . I hope I'm not forgetting anyone. There were some crits flying around along with featuring, and seeing as it's not exactly easy to get those in this fandom, I figured I'd see what I could get from artists whose abilities I respect. I'll do my best to comment on your stuff if I should feature it, and let you know why you didn't make the cut if you don't. I'll be updating it as deviants/artworks are added.

Anyhow, here're the Rules:

First 12 people to comment on this journal, requesting a slot, will get 3 pieces from their gallery featured by me.
I will choose the pieces I like best.

In return, those Deviants featured will have to create their own Feature Journal, placing me in the first slot; leading to a total of 15 Featured Deviants.

#1 :
[link]
There's some solid rendering in this piece, and the hands look good. Two things that I feel I could be better at.
[link]
This one gets the nod more for the use of the... light thingy that I should know the name of than anything else. There's another example of it in a recent B.Viper image that he did.
[link]
I feature this more for the intent than any profound artistic attribute- one of the definitions of "art" is that it's supposed to "speak" to the viewer, and one of the major arguments in the art vs pr0n debate is that art that titillates does not do this. It appears that Theo has been having the opposite problem- the viewers have been speaking to him, yet they have nothing to say. This has been an interesting sequence, and I look forward to seeing how it turns out.

#2 :
[link]
The first color image of Trans that I was aware of, this, and a few other works by LF also inspired me to try a few things with my own work.
[link]
Like I said in my comment on this, I had tried to do a bra pic recently, but couldn't find a good reference for the lacy bits and gave up. It's the details that make this piece work for me, like the matching panties.
[link]
Tell me that's not awesome. You cannot STOP Annie's bust, you can only hope to contain it. The breaking of the line is a nice design touch, and I like her slipping out of the sweatery thing.

#3 :
[link]
Boobs on surface (table, someone's head, floor, whatever) = win in my book. They could be a little softer, flattening out with the surface, but I'm not looking this gift horse in the mouth.
[link]
It's a story, and a bit on the long side, but it's worth it. The character development's deeper than the usual fare in this genre, and the female lead is bigger than some, but probably not most. Small touches like written accents give it an extra thumbs up.
<a href="http://bedbendersinc.deviantart.com/...

I don't think that I've ever had anything quite so popular- the first pencil test got an average of 100 hits an hour for the first seven hours. It has since tapered off, but still! Crazy...

I've been kind of sick , so I have not been able to get as much done as I originally set out to do this week. Those of you who are watching this space will see the next stage once it's ready to show.

Project 3: 's Lexi/MQ Contest: It's DONE! Her hair was giving me problems, so I want to look for some more references. Otherwise I have this drawing of a giant-breasted headless woman sitting around, and no, I'm not going to upload it, because that's just weird.

And speaking of Kiribans, it seems that with the last two posts I am rapidly approaching 20K. Maybe I should do a contest...

Project 5: Getting off my lazy ass and scanning/finishing stuff: Still working on it. I've been busy with the other stuff.

Going back to bed inna bit,
-MT

I sent the first third of the 10-second animation to GDAD for review this evening. Having a pencil test machine all to myself is making it fly by, and I can even tweak the timing as I go. This makes me very happy, and makes me want to do other animations, but I intend to "walk before I run" in this case.

Project 3: 's Lexi/MQ Contest: Since the contest seems to have been extended (and I apologize to those of you who got it done faster than I) I've been working on something longish. I also have some characters for Trans' world, but I'm still not coming up with something satisfactory for what the hell they're all doing together. I've also got some other bus drawings (I seem to do a lot of expansion art on my bus rides, not sure why) that I've been meaning to finish, but, well, busy. busy, busy...

Which is what I'm getting back to now.
Hey there, thought I'd let those of you watching this space know how things are progressing. Also keeps me honest.

Right now there's 2 major projects that I am working on. (Listed in order of acquisition)

Project 1: Super-Secret-Interactive-Animation-Thingy That I Can't Really Tell You About:
I've been playing with lineweights and thinking on levels of interactivity. I need to make another flowchart so I can figure out how the whole app will work (working in ActionScript), but I feel good about it. I need to block out some time to start working on it, as it's more time consuming than anything else.

Project 2: Colored + Shaded Grape Animation for
I was originally trying to complete it with technology that I wasn't entirely comfortable with, namely drawing the whole thing via the tablet. I have since gone back and started the whole thing over, and while Grape's current costume is still annoying, it's manageable. I need to finish building my camera stand, and production will be in full swing by this weekend. No projected date for completion yet, but once I can start pencil testing more quickly than I have been, the whole thing will go much faster. This is getting bumped up in priority, as it'll be easier to finish than the SSIATTICRTYA.

Project 3: 's Lexi/MQ Contest:
I had a ton of ideas that were too complicated to finish within the timeframe, or just didn't make enough sense to me (I kept asking myself "why is this happening?") when I finally got around to thinking about it. Now I have an idea that I can *prrrobably* finish in time, I even did sketches for it. I have a funnier idea that's probably just too long to do right. We'll see. After all the time I spent trying to come up with a gag, I'd hate not to enter at all...

Project 4: Kiriban request for : (sorry I forgot to mention this) I never announced a kiriban, but he went out and got a shot of 15K exactly. Which is damn amazing and shows some dedication. I have to sit down with the references he sent me and do the thing already. Maybe I should print them out and do it on the bus.

And a random link for my pregnophiles out there: [link] Some of you have probably already seen this, or the actual images. If you haven't seen this particular clip, you might want to watch with the sound off, the hosts're mean. Really, you can just get to about 45 seconds or so, and pause it, because the rest is just them complaining about how hugely pregnant she was.

I haven't seen any pics of her pregnant aside from this, but then again, I never really looked. I remember doing a fairly exhaustive search for Kate from "Jon and Kate Plus 8," not finding anything, and I assumed that this would be the same. But this latest broodmother seems to be a lot more popular, so I figure I'll go trawling for images later.

Thanks for stopping by,
-MT

Over this year, I’ve been approached by a few people here and there about commissions, and I have thrown numbers at them based on what I guesstimated that they could or could not pay. After giving it some thought, I figured I might as well open the proverbial shop doors, and accept commissions for reals. If i quoted you something within the last 3 months, use that. Otherwise, this is it.

There are no slots, if I get to the point where I really cannot handle what I have, I will let you all know.

And on to the important stuff:

How much? It’s kind of like ordering a pizza… Each of these assumes one character.

Sketch: $30 (1 revision)
Ink: $50 (up to 2 revisions, sketch, then final)
Color: $75 (up to 2 revisions, sketch then final)

Comics/Animations: Send me a script, and how long you think it would be, or you would like it to be. I am still working on two animations, and I have realized that my prior rates for that were not entirely workable. Obviously the two would be priced differently, but they have the same needs, more or less. Revisions vary.

Art Trades: I am somewhat discerning; it’s nothing personal. If I don’t accept your offer, I will tell you why. I might not like your style or preferred subject matter; I might be busy. Could be anything, really.

Requests: I am especially discerning about requests. You must have a truly awesome or thought-provoking (see ‘s posts over at the Process Forum) idea for me to drop what I am doing, do something for you and not expect anything in return. It also helps if you offer constructive criticism on my work from time to time, or if we’ve conversed or something- basically, if I have some sort of connection to you, I am more likely to do something for you. Requests don’t get revisions.

Revisions: A revision is anything that wasn't part of the original or approved plan, or is a reinterpretation of the original or approved plan. If I mess up something that was supposed to be in the original plan, then it's not a revision. Revisions carry over from project to project.

For example:
The image concept is two characters eating cookies on the hood of a cherry red '57 Chevy. You green-light this concept, and I send you a sketch of the scene.
After seeing it, you decide that the two of them should be eating fillet mignon instead of cookies. This is a revision.
I also drew one of the characters with a beard when they don't have one. I have to fix it, but that's not a revision.
The characters are in the right positions, but you ask that one of them have their position adjusted (angle, limbs, size, whatever). This is a revision.

Toppings!
For each character after the first, multiply the entire cost by 1.25. (So a color image with 2 characters would be $112.50.)

For things that violate the DA porn rules, multiply the entire cost by 2. (So a color image with 2 characters doing Something Naughty would be $225.)

What can I order?

Anything that’s not illegal. No rape, underage (OR underage-looking) characters, scat, watersports, bestiality (but furries are OK), or sexualized graphic violence. I’m sure that this list will grow, but that’s what I know of. Yes, you can ask for male furry vore or something like that. It’s your dollar, and I will not question your choices except to make sure that I know what I am doing. I may ask you what you like about it, so I can make you something that you will like, so be prepared to answer it.

How do I get started?

Send me a note. I like getting notes. Or if you’d rather, send me an email at mastertoymaker@hotmail.com. If you’d rather not PayPal, I’ll take a money order. In either case, I’ll need the money up front, or at least half if it breaks $90. If you pay half, I will email you when it’s ready, and you will get your image once I get the balance. Images will go up in my gallery; you can post them in your DA gallery as well. If you’re going to use it on a paysite or something, let me know.

Annnnd… I think that’s it.
...
