        <media:text type="html"><![CDATA[ The book thing takes a while.  It especially takes time when you're doing lots of overtime.<br /><br />But it HAS been interesting, going back and actually WRITING the backstory that's been showing up in the series so far.  The prologue is still in the slushpile at Asimov's, so that won't be seen anywhere for a while.  Chapter 1 is a revised and extended version of Dr. Mauser in the '80's while chapter 2 deals with the whole Diamond Purifier scheme going wrong and how Dr. Mauser first met Professor Gunn and got forced into a life of professional Evil.<br /><br />We will be hitting the Antarctic Base fiasco, and also the private island (Oh MY do I have a great jo ]]></media:text>

        <media:text type="html"><![CDATA[ ... and that's a start.  The book is going to be "Dr. Mauser: Red on Red".  Those select few who got to read SVS, that's going in as a Preface (Although I still plan to throw it at Asimov's to garner another rejection for the pile).  The period around Dr. Mauser in the '80's is going to be significantly expanded, and there will be coverage of his adventures in Africa, meeting Tommy Gunn, and the infamous Antarctic base, through to a rather altered version of the current storyline, and beyond.<br /><br />My mind is really buzzing around those early chapters.  It's kind of a pain because there are scenes I want to have that won't work with some of the ot ]]></media:text>

Actually, he was a friend of a LOT of my friends, based on the outpouring of journal entries and comments on them after his death at the hands of a drunk driver last Friday. Not HUGE amounts, but more than enough to justify keeping at it.<br /><br />And so I'm very tempted by the chance to take Dr. Mauser to a wider audience. But there's a downside. Amazon will not be undersold. If you put an eBook on Amazon and on Barnes & Noble, if the price at B&N is lower than Amazon, Amazon will lower the price to match. And that's where the downside is.         <media:text type="html"><![CDATA[ In one week, The Battle of Granite Falls got 95 reads and 6 faves.<br />In 15 HOURS, Lady Phantom Gets Her Man got 99 reads and 6 faves.<br /><br />Of course, for all I know, the Keywords helped, since "Lady" had a lot more.<br /><br />BTW, at some point I'm going to reformat all the stories a bit.  When I learned to type, we were taught to put TWO spaces after sentence-ending punctuation, and that's what I do, totally unconsciously.  But in an uploaded story, double spaces are turned into two nonbreaking spaces, which can mess up line breaks, AND really inflates the file size.  So at some point I'm going to re-load every story with single spaces.  I might also go a ]]></media:text>

        <media:text type="html"><![CDATA[ So I'm finishing up The Battle of Granite Falls (Yeah, I know, I've taken long enough), and frankly, it's difficult going.  The reason?  Well, it can be tough when a character you've been kinda linked to as an avatar goes his own way to be true to himself, and that's a direction you would never go.  If you set up a character you identify with, even a little, to be intelligently sociopathic and maybe even a touch solipsistic, he may indeed end up being a bit of a monster sometimes.  Sure he's been known to kill off the occasional rival bad guy, and it's been implied that he's knocked off more than his share of Agents, but this is the first tim ]]></media:text>

        <media:text type="html"><![CDATA[ So, I've finally completed another chapter, a slightly longer one, (14 pages in Open Office vs. the usual 10)!  Let's hear it for TL;DR!<br /><br />If you're the sort of person who saves these, I'd suggest waiting a while, because it always takes a few days and re-reads to catch all the typos.  Something about the formatting changes makes it easier to spot the mistakes that you've been reading and re-reading for months.  I already fixed it three times since I posted it 45 minutes ago.<br /><br />By the way, I'd like suggestions for Tag words.  I only use "DrMauser" on my stories, and clearly I should use more to hit more searches.  Comment any suggestions.<br /><br />(Mes ]]></media:text>

        <media:text type="html"><![CDATA[ Summer in the Northwest has been late in coming.  Well, yesterday it decided to make up for lost time, and instead of the temps in the 60's and 70's that have been persisting for weeks and weeks, (Along with a lot of overcast and rain) it has gotten REALLY hot.<br /><br />Seriously, I had the day off from work today, and I'm wishing I didn't.  Northwest homes typically don't have air conditioning because you rarely need it, but today the indoor temperature got up to 89°.  It got so hot that my PC started overheating and BSODing randomly.  (This didn't help while I was already struggling with the incompatibilities between Firefox 3.6.6 and Flash 10 ]]></media:text>

        <media:text type="html"><![CDATA[ Unfortunately, with the latest revision to the gallery editor, these options are not available at the "Featured" folder level.  But they are in any folders you create under the "Folder Options" button.  Another brilliant move by DA.A lot of people's galleries for some reason have switched to displaying backwards, their oldest stuff first.  Okay, that's nifty for getting comments on your really old pics, but it's not something you intended, and when you add new pics, they're at the front again.  Scrambled galleries!<br /><br />There is a Fix.  It's buried on the DA forums, and it's buried in the controls....<br /><br />Go to your Gallery, click Edit, click Option ]]></media:text>

        <media:text type="html"><![CDATA[ If you were reading two Journals back, you might have noticed a little role playing breaking out in the comments.  That moved to e-mail, where it turned into a whole story.<br /><br />Working on it in e-mail was fun.  It brought me back to my old BBS days where I participated in a lot of storyboards, the KAOS Saga on KAOS, The Galaxy Local 999/Dining Car on The Electric Holt, and a storyboard with no name on a Drexel BBS.  There was something about the pressure of limited resources, and the blinking modem lights and the danger of getting disconnected and losing it all that really kicks the typing and creativity into high gear.<br /><br />Doing that really uncork ]]></media:text>
