In short:
1) I didn't go back to 6th form college for various reasons, and ended up taking A-levels online over a 9-month period because I couldn't stand the idea of spending 2 more years in pre-uni education. All I can say is that I wouldn't recommend it, and it's not an experience I would ever like to relive, but now that it's over I'm glad I did things the way I did

2) I got into LCC! I am starting the BA Film & Television next week, which is an intensive, mainly practical/industry-based film-making course, i.e. right up my street This also means I have moved to London, which is rather exciting..

3) As such, my updates on DA are bound to be sporadic and rather more film-related, if I can figure out how to upload films that is!

Instead, I have undertaken the mind-bogglingly difficult task of doing 2 A-levels in 9 months (including revision + exams) which I'm teaching myself from an online course :S It's actually going quite well so far - I've just taken my AS exams and took *two whole days* holiday before starting the A2 work.

Other exciting news includes applying for uni - namely a BA in Film & Video at LCC School of Media in London. But I'm trying to put all that out of my mind until I hear if I've got an interview...

Urrm, what else? Oh yeah, I made a short film! I'm currently cutting a 'trailer' to use as a showreel which I might see my way to putting up on DA at some point. Whole film should be done some time in the summer.

As far as art goes, can't say when I'll be doing much more of substance for the time being (far too much work), but I've got a ton of photography and some old-ish scans of artwork yet to be uploaded, so you never know! On the other hand, if you're into fashion I do occasionally update my fabulous polyvore account, or else you're in with a fair chance of finding me on twitter at 4 am

1. Edited a comedy short for some guys I met through another contact - my first real experience with final cut and I think it turned out rather well (it's much more difficult than it might seem). You can see it here if you so wish.

2. Had some freelance work editing videos for Norfolk & Norwich Festival that can seen be on youtube like this one, (not all the videos here are mine - basically any which have titles starting with 'Norfolk and Norwich Festival - ...' were done by me )

3. Got work experience in the art dept. of the new Bond film Quantum of Solace and while there blagged my way into becoming a runner and ended up staying on till the end of the shoot! XD Without revealing too much, I got to do some rather exciting things e.g. helping to blow stuff up a lot as well as the general cleaning up, running errands, delivering messages and being leched on by the crew which was literally 98% male... All the while staying in a convent-cum-b&b with actual nuns. o_o That 3 weeks was probably the hardest I have ever worked. ever. 6-day-weeks and 12-15 hour days and no breaks or sitting down really takes it out of you!

4. Just found out a short documentary and essay I did earlier in the year have won me one of the 12 places on the Warwick Junior Commission which means I'll be taking my camera on a trip through several lesser economically developed countries and helping make a report on standards of education there. That should be happening in the next couple of months although I don't actually yet know where or when I'll be going!

5. Got a new short fiction project in the works too (I say in the works, I mean I'm thinking about it, fleshing out ideas, y'know...) BUT hopefully I will really follow through on this one and end up with something for my showreel.


Wow... so, I have to go back to college now?


+ DA news:
Not sure what I'll be doing on DA in the near future... I'm taking a bit of time off at the moment so maybe get round to looking/commenting a bit again... and in terms of submissions there's still a lot of GSCE stuff I never put up and also a selection of the better photos I've taken on travels and such over the last couple of years, so... yeah I haven't given up on this account yet although my gallery is now full of stuff I did when I was about 13...

However, with a carefully constructed diet of caffeine and alarm clocks I'm trying keep that under control and am just putting my affairs in order so-to-speak so that I can forget about educational stuff for a while and get on with my own projects. It actually looks like 2008 could be a great year if I handle it right

Now it's just a matter of convincing the film industry that it doesn't matter that I'm under 18 and will they please let me have some work experience (pretty please?)

In terms of this page... I may get round to photographing some of my yr 11 CWK/exam pieces at some point.. and I may be producing some new artwork as well. We'll see.

#1 Sweeney Todd = love.. I wanna see it again

#2 Art - I'm going to be concentrating more on film for the next 9 months - building up a showreel n all that, but I will be doing a little art on the side - sketching, photography and a little bit of painting hopefully - I have some new stuff on the go right now so don't despair, I will upload something eventually.

#3 Life - Just got back from a fun-soaked-extra-long-weekend in Leamington spa avec mon frère... now down to work (heh). No really, I'm doing things, I promise! In fact, I am currently engaged in making a short film with which I can apply to do Warwick Junior Commission which would involve travelling to some LECD-type country and making a project entitled 'education as a right for all' or some such thing. If I get in, I will most likely take my camera and try to make a documentary - which is an opportunity I still can't quite get my head round.. sorry, this is getting quite self-involved (but wait, it is my personal journal, I don't know why I'm berating myself..) .... #4 Umm.. Oh yeah, Hair - it got boring, which means I have to do something with it... what do people think of ash blonde/brown with bottle green sneaking out from underneath... pixie-fringe + bouncy loose curls/waves... this is my current thinking, but it may be a little too weird.... then again, maybe I'll just go to Videl Sassoon Creative school in London and say 'do whatever you want'. I haven't decided if I'm brave enough yet.

So. Life update:

Less than... 14 weeks till GCSEs. Then exams. Then the END of it all. My life begins on June 21st 2007.

Then a week or so of solid party in which time I will probably kill off all the braincells I'm pushing so hard now to learn pointless facts and figures

Then work at the film festival.

Then America.

Then sleep.

Then 6 Form.

Also, I am ill in such a way that I feel kind of trippy and disoriented all the time and can't concentrate on stuff - inner ear and all that... it's not necessarily the worst kind of illness to have

Life Update:

- Summer school was awesome. I made a (short) film
- Went to Amsterdam, now have to produce a load of artwork and a report to try and convice a board of people that it was worth spending their money on me
- Did and am doing a shit-load more coursework which my teachers forgot to set me till the frickin' summer holidayswtf?
- Now back to school for merry old GCSEs and then I can leave! LEAVE! XO At last! Hah! Hahaha!
- Feel in the mood to be creative and have felt so for quite some time but am, as usual, too oppressed with school work to contemplate anything as trifling as <doing something worthwile>. Phfff.

So here I am, another year older (it's my birthday) .

Not a whole lot has happened since my last journal... I've just been working a lot and having a nice quiet Christmas with family (I got to see my relatives who were living in Uganda again finally! )

I saw Porcupine Tree at last, and they were - to coin a phrase - "awe-some"... I mean, as in, they inspired awe... pretty weird phrase huh? I doubt it'll catch on

Anyway, yeah, they were amazing. Not much more I can say but that.... except I was right at the front, and I got the last t-shirt on the entire tour! It was the display one duct-taped to the wall, so the last one that was sold! *is still gloating*...

And for my birthday I got the electric piano I've been saving up for for so long and it's brilliant !

So overall I've had a good Christmas this year

Anyway, hope you people all had a good Christmas/other celebration/ general holiday, and have a great new year

[Edit:] Don't look at my gallery - it's horrible! Disgusting! It says nothing about me! .... I'm gonna clean out some of the crap soon I think, and maybe put up something new, although I don't know how likely that will be... I feel like doing some (anything) actually inspired by myslf or my own thoughts, but as I have been going through something of an identity crisis for the last year, I'm having difficulty doing anything I actually believe in... if that makes any sense... Anyway, bear with me... hopefully I can come up with something soon.. (although, as well as being ill at the moment, I'm also terrifically busy, what with coursework, applications for various things, a media studies course and a group commission (!))...

.... Feeling really ill and nauseous today... feverish.... headachey... got a cold... good old winter....

Did life drawing this morning at Kettle's Yard. The guy had clothes on obviously - as it's open to all ages, but it was really fun and reminded me that I can actually draw - I haven't drawn anything in so long what with school and all that that Id forgotten how good it feels to just let go of yourself and become immersed in a drawing... pictures currently still at Kettle's Yard but I'll scan them when I get them back

Went to see the White Stripes live and like them better for it. Got a lot of high-5s off stoned dudes. Got a lot of beer thrown on me. Music was good though

And now it's only a month till I see Porcupine Tree!

... So, what else has been happening? Art classes at school have become more and more annoying - at the moment we are cutting up baby clothes and re-assembling them to make new out-fits. I think it's supposed to sybolise how the destruction of one thing can lead to the creation of another. Sort of thing you might expect in a self-help class but not an art GSCE... and we have to spend three weeks on it too! Three valuable weeks!

I want to learn the guitar, but have no time... and the drums... and the saxaphone... and the cello/double bass... with that and the piano I could be a jazz band all on my own

Yeah. So. Shout at me if I don't upload things soon. I really have become complacent about it... For now I think I'll just put up some more old stuff until I can find time to take pictures of some new stuff .

Fuck. School tomorrow... Why can't I just take a year off? Why? I seriously think they should implement 'mental health gap years' into the secondary school system.

Anyway, seen a hell of a lot of good movies recently; namely:

The Ring - Scary, but not quite as scary as I expected. Well done though.
Les Triplettes des Beleville - Charming and very weird at the same time, as with all of Sylvain Chomet's films...
Blow - Actually the first 18 I've ever seen... mmm, Johnny Depp and bondage... Very good movie though, true story, crazy story.
All the President's Men - Brilliant film, Dustin Hoffman and Robert Redford, a formidable duo. I thought the ending was a little rushed though.
Rear Window - The scariest PG I've ever seen! Very atmospheric. Hitchcock is a genius.
Air Force One Wow, I gotta see me some more of these Gary Oldman films!


Woo! I just found out I'm going to France for a week in the Summer! Staying in an appartment above the Louvre! I can't wait!

Feeling a little drained after a solid hour or two of piano improv... ummmm, I'm really not feeling very literate or concious at the moment, so I'd better shut up now.

[Edit:] I really need to upload some more stuff... my current gallery is full of old works and doesn't really reflect what I'm doing now... Unfortunately, although I have close to ten large projects on the go they are mostly in my school sketchbook, which my bloody art teacher took in to mark and then lost.

Okay, I have, at last risen from that pestulant pit of hell they call 'No-Computer'... *shudders* I don't even want to think about it...

In short, I was caught surfing the net at 3 am a few nights running and my computer was confiscated for a week. Then I got it back on parole to 'do some research for homework' and, ummm... 3 am again, no computer again.



However, I am now back, and feeling kind of ill... the sort of ill which makes me feel like staying in bed all day but doesn't acutally stop me going to school...

I have a couple more things to submit, but I'll do 'em some other time 'cause my internet is SO DAMN SLOW today.

I also have a few larger and more complete pieces in my A3 sketchbook (woo, acrylics )... which my teacher conveniently stole before I could scan anything so that she can show it to ofsted. Blerg.

Just dropping in to say hi, and yes I am still alive... have exams this week, and they can sure distract you from internet surfing...

I have some pretty surreal stuff on the go, which is way too big for my scanner... I have 40 more pieces that I've done over the last year, but unfortunately they're A2 or bigger, and my scanner is A4, so you will never see them till I find some other way of submitting them... so infact my gallery isn't as modest as it looks now - in fact, it should be 107, not 67.... stupid technology...

Meh, I don't feel too bad at the moment - going manic running three times a week (well, not exactly manic...) and managed 3/4 of a mile, which my body has never had to cope with before except in school cross-country lessons... I was quite pleased with myself... *needs sympathy because she is so pathetic*

May drop in some time next week. May not.

[Edit:] ... ran a whole a mile! might do the 'race for life' charity run in the summer (3 miles)

I decided to give up on my homework for a while, and produced a few pictures which I'm very pleased with.

Watched a documentary on Keith Jarrett and was inspired. Watched the end of 'The Old Woman and The Pigeons' ('La Vielle Dame et Les Pigeons') and was freaked out... it's directed by the same person who did 'Belleville Rendez-Vouz', which I am yet to see...

So, I thought I'd start using the forums properly, and posted a really long comment [link] (hope that link worked) Anyway, it's been 4 days and no-one's answered. 25 people have answered to the parent since, but no-one's even read mine... so my question to anyone who frequents the forums is: Does this happen often? Is it something I should just get used to? Or is it that my comment doesn't show up or something?

Spent the morning at the 'Cambridge Print Studio'... which was amazing! I got to use the printing presses etc., and saw original prints from artists such as Paula Rego, Peter Blake, Antony Gormley, Kim Lim and many, many more! Made quite a few prints, which was cool, and I was given a dud copy of one of the prints! For free!!!!!

Wow, so anyway, the holidays have finally arrived. God, school was killing me!

So, I will be doing loads'a stuff all week including a trip to Bristol University and one to London to see the London Aquarium and the London Eye, so hopefully that should result in some more pictures

And on Sunday, I'm naming a boat, of all things - with all the 'I name this boat... God bless her and all those who sail in her *breaks champagne bottle*' ...actually, I'll probably just open the champagne... as I think the council might have something to say about broken glass in the Cam...

So, yeah... I'm trying not to think about going back to school in a week's time...

Feeling a bit better, mainly because it's the weekend and I did some really successful drawings today

Actually, I'm feeling much better than I have for a long time

So anyway, I watched 'Catch me if you can', which was good, 'The man who knew too little' which was hillarious (as with any Bill Murray film ). And I saw Harold Pinter's 'The Caretaker' which was the weirdest film I've ever seen, but very very good;

With only three characters, and pretty much one room for the set, it was intensely claustrophobic, but also very interesting, showing the constant power play between three very different men. According to the video case, it was 'Hillariously funny' but I found it more unsettling than amusing. There is something slightly abnormal about all the characters, and the limited set and weird conversations gave me the impression that something was not right, and that maybe the characters were not living in our world. I also thought that the ending was one of the most unsettling I've ever seen, however, I won't spoil it for you.

School is boring.

However, I'm going on an A-level trip to see Les Miserables! I'm not quite sure how I got into an A-level trip, but I did... and it's my favourite musical ever! Hell, I've never even seen it and it's still my favourite musical. Y'see, I heard some of the songs from it in a thing called 'The Sound of Musicals' when I was about 8 and I've wanted to see it ever since... and now I am seeing it... which is why I'm really happy... and when I'm happy I babble... as I'm sure you've noticed...

So anyway, this is probably the longest journal I've ever written, and I'm going to stop now, because I'm tired. So... goodbye!

Current activity: staring out of the window listening to Ruben Gonzalez and searching for the inspiration which has been eluding me for the past week or so...

I'm sort of, too ill to do anything much, but not ill enough to lie on the sofa complaining So I've just been sitting around watching films e.g. I Robot, Benny and Joon (about 4 times ), The Hours and Chicago all withing about five days... I need to get out more...

Why am I writing this journal? The same reason as every other time: Boredom.

Saw Unbreakable last night, and loved it, especially the ending...
except that Elijah Price should have gone on to rule the world... I would have been on his side

I've done a couple more pictures, but I've just been sculling (rowing) every day for a week, and I can barely move my fingers, so I may take a while to put them up... I was also thinking of making myself a deviantID, so that may appear at some point.

Oh my god, school starts again in three weeks. What the hell am I going to do? Maybe I should break both my legs and arms - my school doesn't have wheelchair facilities... Don't get me wrong, I am not opposed to school, and I can't wait to go to college, but year 8 was so dire. I didn't get on with anyone, the work was incredibly boring, and I was constantly discriminated against by everyone older than me, just because of my age. Am I the only one who notices this? Most adults assume that just because I'm 13 they are twice as intelligent and mature than I am. In fact, by making these generalisations, they are proving the exact opposite! AAAAAARG! *fumes in corner*

Well damn! What else can I say?

So, I went to the Cambridge Shakespeare festival and saw 12th Night, which was very good...

I missed Ninth Gate on TV... (How could I?!)

WoooooooooOOOoooo! HOLIDAYS! Man, school was nearly sending me insane! What with all the boring lessons, pointless homework, patronising teachers *mumble mumble*...I mean, school was actually crushing my creativity instead of encouraging it! I've just produced as much work in a week as I have over the past (school) year! Anyway: I just bought the soundtracks from Edward Scissorhands and Sleepy Hollow, (two of my favourite films I might add ) and they are utter genius! I started listening at 11:45, and sat transfixed for 2 hours! (or however long they are).

If you don't have these soundtracks already (and you should) go to amazon and order them, NOW. Or listen to the crappy little previews they have there - your choice

Other News:

Is there any other news? I don't thinks so... oh yeah, I went to France for a day with school... it was kind of weird... But there was a cool cathedral there, so I will have loads of pictures coming up.

And I saw 'Spirited Away' the other day. It was amazing! So atmospheric and well drawn, and it had a subtle, dream-like quality to it. Definately one of my favourite films, I had to watch it three times!

Also, I might not post anything for a while, because my kitchen is being re-done. Then again, I might find a way. I have a list of stuff to scan in. (At the moment the list includes 4 scraps and 8 deviations)

Oh yeah, and Edward Scissorhands is on British TV on Sunday. Anyway:

Scanner = broken = sad
School = 10 days left and counting (and one of those will be in France) = happy
Life = it contains reality, which is not something I enjoy dealing with... = sad
Shrek 2 = so DAMN funny! I nearly died laughing! (I'm sure everybody in the cinema noticed) I mean, they had Eddie Murphy doing Donkey! They had Mike Myers doing Shrek! They had Antonio Banderas doing Puss in Boots!!!! I'm SO getting that on DVD! (as you can see, I am a complete film addict.) = very happy

SHCOOL. in particular, homework. It's not even interesting homework...

Maths: Copy out all the work you've done over the last 4 weeks or so, so we can make it look like you've done loads of work this year.

History: Do a project about The Indigenous People of North America. Yeah we were meant to do it during the school day, but I was too busy ranting on at you about school standards and making you watch ancient videos about Oliver Cromwell even though you know it all allready to actually do any work about it, or in fact teach you anything whatsoever, sorry about that...
