Alucard. After all the time I spent giving Trill a hard time about her vampire obsession, somehow I got sucked into the whole Hellsing thing. Go figure. Vash falls into the same category too.

3. The character everyone else loves that I don't:
Inuyasha. I don't see the appeal at all, for him or for the series.

4. The character I love that everyone else hates:
Kibito, from Dragonball Z. Yeah, laugh it up. I feel bad for him; he kinda gets the short end of the stick. And he's smarter than everyone else.

5. The character I used to love but don't any longer:
Taikoubou from Houshin Engi... maybe because I never finished the series and haven't seen any of it in a looooong time...

6. The character I would shag anytime:
Pip Bernedotte, from Hellsing, because he has an EYEPATCH. And he's French.

Sakamoto Ryoma from PMK... coz he's so friggin' cool!! Or Hiko Seijuurou from Rurouni Kenshin.

My last day of subscription...

Anyhoo, I had a great Easter. (Especially for it not being my holiday to celebrate, I guess?) I finished a "revisionist history" book on Mary Magdalene, which I thought would be really funny but was simply infuriatingly stupid. It turned funny again by the end of it. How could it not? The author reverently quoted both Martin Bernal (who theorizes that every great ancient Greek leader was black) and Graham Hancock (who theorizes that the ancient Egyptian pyramids were built by aliens). Gotta love it.

Nick's mom made me an Easter basket, too, which was awesome. My mom hasn't made anyone an Easter basket since Phil stopped caring about the Easter Bunny. (I shall go cry to myself in the corner.) So now I'm stuffiing my face with sugar at eight in the morning. Mmmm...

Just had a long (two hours!) discussion with my dad about the college problem. *sigh* I was really hoping NOT to talk about it while he's here, but we did, and I guess I feel a little better about the whole situation.

I won't descend into my college diatribe, because I do that way too much.

What it boils down to is this:

-Brown - $42,303/yr. and I haven't been accepted yet.
-Chicago - $43,570/yr. and I haven't been accepted yet.
- SUNY Potsdam - approx. $15,000/yr. They accepted me as soon as I applied and immediately offered me a scholarship.

I just wish I were pragmatic enough to see things completely in that light.

But in any case, this helped to cheer me up. [link]

I shouldn't be talking, for my pronunciation is horrible and this is what I should be striving for...but it reminds me vaguely of the Swedish chef, the way the pitch jumps up and down.

Hopefully, I'll post a little bit of writing this weekend. I have a lot of little things that I've written over the past week and just threw aside for the moment. Also, there's that story I've been working on slowly since, like, December. I'd like some feedback on it, but I'm not entirely willing to post it: some of the characters bear very obvious similiarities to the people around me. Everything's like that anymore... The protagonist for my APart comic book looks exactly like my brother.

Curse you, Nick Lockhart and the fact that you were the only person around when I needed some reference images!

Chicago was fun. The campus was just gorgeous, like a huge mediaeval manor plopped into the middle of the city. It turns out, however, that all gargoyles and such that had been hyped in every brochure that the university had sent to me were tiny and high in the sky. I took pictures as best as I could.

The Oriental Institute wasn't quite as impressive as I had hoped, either - it had more in the way of Mesopotamian artifacts than Egyptian, the latter being what I really wanted to see - but it was still nice. And photography was allowed, so I have pictures of that, too. I should be posting those earlier than the campus photos because I used my dad's digital camera instead of my crappy disposable Kodak. I also wrote a little. I don't know if I'll be posting that, though.

Right now I'm in Dayton for the next two days. Wish me luck: this is the worst part of the trip.

Besides touring the campus, I'm going to the Oriental Institute museum, which is all ANE/Egyptian artifacts. The university itself is supposed to be quite a sight: neo-Gothic, with gargoyles everywhere. I'll be sure to take lots of pictures. I don't know if photography is allowed within the Oriental Institute, but I'm sure Near Eastern antiquities don't hold quite the same fascination for y'all as they do for me.

I suppose that, as usual, things could be much worse and I have no right to complain: I could be quadrapalegic; I could be watching prime-time sitcoms; or I might not have Nick at all . But GODDAMMIT, it's all so vexing! I am just SEETHING with EBULLIENT RAGE. I could just stab someone. But not with a fork - a spoon would be better. It's dull; it'll hurt more.

Things to do for tonight:
- play DDR really loudly whilst cursing everything around me under my breath
- write angry poetry - I really like the phrase "seething, ebullient rage" right now
- type French essay that would be tomorrow's homework
- possibly kick Phil, as he is lying on the floor with the dog right now, and run away before he can kick back
- just generally be pissy

Not this computer, obviously, but my hunk-o-junk, Windows NT, ancient-as-the-hills computer that couldn't do shit but run a word processor. It sure did suck. I guess I'm not mourning its loss so much as the fact that all my writing was on its hard drive. ALL OF IT. Gone.

Some of it is retrievable: everything I posted here, but that's maybe about a third of my work. I still have handwritten scrap copies of some stories and poems, but I've thrown most of those out.

I could kick myself for not making back-ups.

It's exam week, and, having no exams, I feel like I should be enjoying myself, but it looks like I'm still spending every day in school just so I can finish my APart work. It's really not so bad; right now I'm just sitting alone in Mrs. Randell's room with my cd player. In fact, it kinda feels nice to be productive ... and away from my siblings. (Paige and Allison are currently convinced that the former's room is haunted by a poltergeist, which was pretty amusing for me before I left the house this morning, but it would've gotten old fast.)

At the rate I'm going, I think it might turn into a novella. The tentative title is Average Five.

- I've been accepted into SUNY Potsdam. It's not my first choice by any means, but they're offering me a hefty scholarship. If I get stuck going there, at least I'll have a free ride until I can transfer to a school with Egyptology/ANE.

Circulation reached record-breaking highs in 2003, and trends continue in 2004. Year-to-date circulation is up 7%, in-library computer usage is up 24% and materials shipped among libraries is up almost 12%.

NO Library Service for Your Tax $$$

To implement the reduction, the County will cut the Property Tax for Library Purposes by almost 79%. That percentage of revenue will shift to the general County tax supporting Medicaid expenses.

That makes me so intensely sad I can hardly put it into words. No more library? It's actually worse than I thought - I heard it was a 75% cut in budget, but nonetheless, it's pretty bad. I mean, I've often been annoyed with the Tonawanda branch for not having what I want to read - for example, I was searching frantically for Boccaccio's Decameron the week before school started and they didn't have it - but it's the principle of the matter.

The dissemination of knowledge is the most important service in society. How could anyone willingly contribute to the ignorance that so thoroughly pervades America???

Uh, yeah. I found this in a bin of cheap B-movie DVDs at Media Play yesterday and was doubtful this morning when I awoke that I had seen it and that it existed. The description I found on Amazon really isn't funny; I wish I could remember what the back of the DVD said. *sniffle* If I'd had the money, I would have bought it; it sounds so hilariously bad. Apparently, it was a double feature with a film called Billy the Kid vs. Dracula. Dammit! All that campy goodness gone to waste.

Can one believe that such movies are made?

Rain kinda sucks in a big way, but...I don't know. I write more when it rains, and I particularly feel like writing. I wrote a poem yesterday; maybe I'll fix it up. It's pretty bad as is. Calculus is not the most inspiring time or place to be writing, and it shows. I almost got busted, too - Mr. Marino loomed over my desk and asked if I was writing love letters. It was close enough to the truth to scare the crap out of me, but then again, everything scares the crap out of me. Hurray for being paranoid!

I'm just happy since I get to sleep over at Amy's tonight. She's been so wrapped up in driver ed. and SAT prep et cetera that I never get to spend any time with her anymore. (I truly don't understand the idea of SAT prep - you either know the stuff or you don't, and no amount of studying can change that. *shrugs* Hell, I don't understand the mechanics of studying. Don't listen to me.) But yeah, it'll be fun. I'll tease her, she'll tease me, we'll both tease her brother, and then we'll spend the rest of the night being hyper and shooting around story ideas. Moreoever, I should come from the night with a new batch of Amy-isms.

By the way, would anyone happen to know how to get fake blood off one's hands???

I've been going through tea withdrawal the past three days. Tops ran out of the tea that my mom and I drink, so we've been walking around the house bitching at everybody. Well, bitching more than usual. But she finally got some more tea last night, and I am sated. Ah, my beloved, honeyed green tea...you make my teeth yellow and my bladder full to bursting - for caffeine is the diuretic of gods - but you taste so wondrously good. *bows seven times upon seven times*

Forgive me if I am in a weird mood. I'm taking a break from my AP art stuff right now. (Aren't I always? lol) I have to produce ten pieces featuring a pair of scissors by Tuesday. So far I have seven done. I'm going to do another this afternoon, then take two photos tomorrow. Not nice photos, mind you: digital camera - click -print - voilà - shittacular! That's about the extent of my knowledge of photography. In any case, I'm a lot further than I thought I would be at this point, which makes me quite happy because that means I can sit back and relax this evening. Dunno what I'll do: maybe hang out with Nick or Amy (whom I never get to see anymore 'coz she's always BUSY ), maybe read (my stack of books to read is growing steadily). My Egyptian grammar book is quite tempting, tho'...the thought of existential sentences and wn -bunnies is seducing me. Damn you, Sir Alan Gardiner, and your Egyptological ways! *shakes fist, then blinks* Wow, I just completely proved my loserness. Anyone who's reading this, ignore the whole part about Egyptian grammar, okay? It's the tea, I tell you!

But, yeah, all in all, this has been an art-tacular weekend. Not an AR-tacular weekend (if my weekend was filled with AR, Amy would be stalking me so hers would be too) or an arrrr-tacular weekend (w00t, pirates), but an art-tacular one. The Albright-Knox was fun on Friday. I'd never been upstairs to see the rest of the gallery, so it made my day to see Egyptian and Greco-Roman works (even if KT hates the permanent collection ). I dunno...I think the weird, ithyphallic centaur-type statuette really made my day. Yah. Nick was pretty wowed by the gallery. I hated it the first time I went; half of that resulted from being accompanied by my mom (whom I love dearly but who doesn't know the first thing about art) and my former stepfather (who is the king of lame jokes. I think he's worse than I am).

Well, I probably should wrap this up. I can sit at home, draw, and watch old episodes of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers. Don't ask - between AP Art and stage crew, the Power Rangers have become my new obsession. Never mind that I haven't watched it since I was about eight.

Today's gonna be quite hectic. I already got up at 6:30 this morning for a stage crew meeting at 8:00. I mean, I know I'm an early riser and all, but even that's a bit much for me on a Saturday. Anyway, stage crew is entertaining. I have the ever-fun task of turning the auditorium lights into torches - and I'm actually not being sarcastic. Ange and her sister are helping me with the torches, so we sit there and talk. Nick (boyfriend) and Nick (brother) are on stage crew too, but I don't get to work with either of them as much as I would like.

In a little bit, Amy and I are headed off to the mall; it's birthday shopping time! Normally, I'm not one for shopping (unless it's for books - my nerditude is showing), but buying birthday presents is okay. I have some pretty good ideas about what to get Nick, and as for Trill....well, it's hard to say now, but I'll see something and say, "Hmm, that's exactly Trillian."
