        <media:text type="html"><![CDATA[ The Twelve Knights of Atlantia:  Illumination, Calligraphy, & Binding<br />Merwenna de Rannowe<br /><br />The Project:  <br />During my time as Scrivener Royal, Her Majesty Seonaid approached me about a project she had been considering based off of a souvenir booklet she had gotten at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.  The booklet was called "The Twelve Knights of Christmas: A Fantasy of Heraldry, by Helmut Nickel", and though it was somewhat whimsical in its illustrations, it was based off of medieval tournament books.  Each page showed a knight on horseback with his heraldry displayed, with a short poem below describing him.  Her Majesty wanted to see a simila ]]></media:text>

        <media:text type="html"><![CDATA[ Merwenna de Rannowe / Cheryn Rapp<br />White Vine Sea Dragon Award &#150; (Work in Progress)<br /><br />Source<br />The original source for this scroll is the book of hours made for Galeazzo di Sanseverino and later owned by Alfonso of Aragon, the Duke of Calabria .  Alfonso supposedly confiscated the manuscript from its original owner during the barons' revolt of 1485-86 for his collection.  His arms were thus painted over those of Galeazzo upon the acquisition.  This particular illumination is by Matteo Felice, probably completed between the 1460's and 1480's.<br /><br />The Award<br />The Sea Dragon is the Order of Merit award for those who excel at rapier fighting in At ]]></media:text>

        <media:text type="html"><![CDATA[ Merwenna de Rannowe / Cheryn Rapp<br />Black Hours Silver Crocus Award<br /><br />Source<br />This scroll is based off of the Schwarzes Gebetbuch, also known as the Sforza Hours, part of a collection of black books of hours of Charles the Rash, Duke of Burgundy, c. 1466-76.  Black hours are so named because the text and illumination are done on leaves of vellum that have been stained black or purple.  The anonymous artist of this particular prayer book is known as the Master Anthony of Burgundy.<br /><br />The Award<br />	The Silver Crocus award is Black Diamond's first level Arts & Sciences award.  It is given to those who instruct the populace and to those who show themse ]]></media:text>

        <media:text type="html"><![CDATA[ Order of Minerva&#146;s Fountain<br />Based on the Grandes Heures of Jean, Duke of Berry<br /><br />Merwenna de Rannowe & Ismee the Nimble<br /><br />The Source:<br /><br />	The Grandes Heures are a book of hours commissioned by the Duke of Berry sometime around 1407 and completed in 1409.  It was meant to surpass all other books of hours that he possessed &#150; it measures almost the maximum surface of an entire skin of parchment and spans 126 folios.  It is made up of two different kinds of pages, &#147;simple&#148; pages and &#147;elaborate&#148; pages.  The elaborate pages are characteristic of the Duke of Berry&#146;s style, bearing his arms and emblems, and thoroughly  ]]></media:text>

        <media:text type="html"><![CDATA[ Merwenna de Rannowe/Cheryn Rapp<br />Award of the Notus for Lady Letia Thistelthueyt<br />Based on The Hours of Philip the Good, Duke of Burgundy<br /><br />Original Sources<br /><br />	This scroll is mainly based off the Hours of Philip the Good, Duke of Burgundy (c. 1454-55).  The Hours contain grisaille miniatures that fill about half of each page, underneath which the customary texts for a book of hours are written in bastarda, following a large puzzlework illuminated letter.<br /><br />The miniature I chose to use for the scroll is based off of a full-page color miniature from the Hours of Mary of Burgundy (c. 1477), in which a lady is sitting at an open window looking into  ]]></media:text>
