I also tried chibipaint. It's sai basically with some photoshop functions, but I was missing some of the cool sai brush features so D: Plus the watercolors are kind of crappy compared to shi's... sorry chibi users |D;

Anyway, I wanted to ask the opinion of my oekaki watchers: OekakiBBS, PaintBBS, ShiPainter/Pro, or Chibi Paint? _{lol I bet half of you are going "WHAT THE HELL IS OEKAKIBBS?? D:" well let me tell you it's a very old program and Canvas and OekakiCentral [I think?] are the only ones I know that have it. If I had a sub this question would be the first poll I'd post.}

And also: do you prefer to stick with one oekaki or jump? I used to just stay at one but then I tried to expand my range as far as I could reach. The bad thing about the latter is oekaki becomes a little less personal and you lose that sort of ~bond~ with oekakiers AND IT'S SO HARD TO KEEP TRACK OF THEM ALL ASDJFKL. I remember when Canvas's chat still worked and hanging out there three hours every day of the summer |D awesome times...

We went to the art museum [got to see some John Singer Sargent; the last one is the one at the Cleveland Museum of Art that I got to see : D] and they had a room with armor and the like on display which is so awesome because how many times in your life do you get to see that stuff right in front of you but yes sort of made me consider more outside of England-ish because there was some Italian and German stuff in the mix. I was looking at the rapiers and then when my dad swung by [little brother in tow... lolol] I was like "oh this is just the later medieval period" and he's like "oh?" and I was all "OH YEAH see here these rapiers have basket hilts and you see that ring? well you see it was a common form late 1600ish to put a finger on the crossguard and they eventually put a ring on the guard to conform to this and look at this! There's a latin inscription on here!" lol /nerd}

rewrote chapters one, two, three, and four, so if you'd like to check them out that's cool. If not, I completely understand.

Mostly cutting out unnecessary clutter of daily life and making things read more seamlessly with where I am now. Sometimes if you write over the period of months, your plot will change a bit, and sometimes I have to go back and fix things so that they correspond with my current plot. I'm very pleased with it; I probably shaved off a few pages while I was at it. Chapter one looks long, but don't be fooled, a lot of it is dialogue so it's shorter than it looks. xP

I decided to post this on Scribd just because it is easier to keep track of chapters and ta-dah, it's so much more fun to read I think. I proofread by reading through this.

I really surprised myself when I cleaned up my gallery today. I was reading something in the last IFX about portfolios and how if someone sees something that is so-so in your usual featured artwork, he or she draw a conclusion that you don't know good art from so-so art.

So, I dropped my number of pieces from 170 to about 90 by shoving the lot of it in scraps, and the lot in scraps I deleted because it was toohideouslyemo or just fugly, most of which were from last year, but a couple from the last months that were bugging me. The cool thing about dA is that the less faves, usually the more mediocre the art is. That is NOT ALWAYS a surefire way of finding the best artwork, because believe me, I've seen way better work get less faves than my stuff, but it helped me confirm some of my decisions.

So back to the question. I really surprised myself.

Why?

Well, because of how unpopular my art was and how much of the art there was. I remember being bugged by no attention, but idk, that never seemed to be something I worried too much over. It was always "I want to draw something" and then I drew it and I loved it because it was mine and if someone else cared that was just ~bonus~. But no one ever did... and I guess I was okay with that, I mean, I kept at it for a long time before I started finding other people on dA and then had like 100 watchers _{which, btw, WHEN THE HELL DID THIS HAPPEN HMMMM THANKS SO MUCH GAIS}

And then in the later submissions it was like-- "whoa where did this come from"
I guess in the last two years I made the connection. People don't like hard-to-understand stories and very blurry edges and cliché emo art. But that won't matter. I still want to make concepts.

So I guess the moral of the story is that Mew is becoming spoiled with attention and that you should become more selective with your comments.


Back to concepts.

What kind of art do you like? Why do you like it? Does it make you happy/motivated/inspired?

I can't figure out what my obsession with concept art is. I mean, I'm not a hardcore gamer anymore or a big scifi nut, but there is something just so... appealing about it. I just can't tear my eyes off of it, the art is so addicting. Do you guys feel that way about the kind of art you like? I remember wanting to make kick-ass pictures with kick-ass compositions and cool characters, but now I get just as much pleasure looking at sedate patrols roaming through a scifi urban scenario, the taste of those familiar gritty textures. There's something like happiness in looking at that art and I'm so proud that I can feel it because I know what I want to do. _{/corniness strikes again}

and geez I'm getting lazy with finding artists, but there was one in particular that stands out in the concept art community. I'm sure one or two of you has heard of him _{*coughNeboJaspercough*} and maybe even you oekakiers/randomwatchers.

His name is M@, short for Mathias Verhasselt. And he is amazing. I mean it. More amazing than anyone I've linked too thus far excluding Ertaç and Android, who I consider on the same level.

So glad I finally got round to fixing a canon problem in this... geez I don't even want to call it novel because it's hardly one anyway. I'm dragging my knees through the ground to get through so many obstacles and finish this; much different than nanowrimo, but if I must say it's quite necessary, all this knee-dragging, before I can start going on again. And I dare say it: I'm making progress.

I've been reading my old journal entries (actually, if you noticed, I delete anything that doesn't make me smile and feel fuzzy inside after I've written a new update), both dA and hand-written diaries. I hate calling them diaries because that word reeks girly-stuff, but one of them plainly says "DIARY" on the cover so whatever.

I whined in a lot of them, too.
Journal = daily updates / Diary = whinewhinewhine
because girls whine a lot, that's why

WELL I'm really sick of reading someone's emo-depressed-whines so that's really helped me be more positive like I am right now if you hadn't noticed. I know, I know, it's true.

I haven't drawn anything in three months.

Okay, if you're just about to link to something I drew in the last three months, I dare you, do it. I've been so upset over getting this damn novel to work that I've just gotten all taut and creative-blocked over everything inside (except piano--I have exams next week, which is EXTRA, EXTRA good) and now I've finally relaxed and tried to remind myself I can enjoy it.

I'd say "GO THANK NEBO YOU INGRATES" but that's kind of bad, because none of you know her, except for Happy. |D But yeah, I owe so much to that kid (and if you're reading this, Vent. Still. Does. Not. Work.), especially for the inspiration. She's got the spirit of a little-kid and the confidence of... well, nothing can really compare to her confidence, and she just does what she thinks is fun, and works at it, and is amazingly good at it because she works so hard at it. Plus the motivation speeches I get every time I log on msn. How many of you can say that about anyone? xD _{don't answer, idiots}

Well, I guess it's good to point out that I'm at that point in my story where I start going back to the beginning because of a *GASP*-wow-big-plot-hole-why-didn't-I-see-this-one-coming moment. I've finally worked out a general idea of Part I, but Part II needs some serious work. This is srsbsns, folks.

I can merely demonstrate how I draw anything for you and you don't need to do anything. I can, however, assess how you draw and help you from there.

Here's what I can do:
For beginners:
Basic rendering [shading] on simple forms
Line

For experienced artist _{of course with less experience than me though}:
Watercolor shading _{since people mention it all the time .-.}
Using colors in rendering

For anyone:
Perspective [1, 2, & 3 point]
Basic design anatomy [proportions for masculine/feminine human figure as well as basic forms/foundations for sketching people]
Composition: A brief explanation/demonstration of the rule of thirds, rule of odds, triangles to strengthen composition, etc.
