This is a retroactive ruling to the date she originally put in to apply for the disability, so she will be receiving a significant sum of money from back payments. I should hope that this will help with some immediate things to take a little pressure off of my back, or at least set things up so that I can start working towards my next financial goal once Christmas passes.

Second, FuffyFox came up to visit today. We had a great time playing some Halo 3 for a while, and it was good to see him again. Hopefully I'll see him again soon, but we'll have to see. Retail is about to go into "Christmas Apocalypse Mode", meaning he'll probably be working pretty much every day between now and Jan. 1st.

That is all for now.

It's been a while since I've updated this journal, but a recent event (read: happened last night) has urged me to post this here.

I'm almost certain now that my stepmother has become the victim of an internet scam, from one "Clearing and Forwarding Center" with an address listed as "510 Bay Street, Toronto, Ontario, Canada, M5J 2P9".

You know you have a red flag on your hands when the third result listed in a Google search on the address leads to [link]

Also the fact that someone sends you a check for $5000 and asks you to send $3900 of it to pay off "Taxes" before you recieve the full winnings payment of $125,000.

First off, the taxes on winning that sum of money would be a lot greater than $3900, and secondly, any legitimate lottery would pay you the full amount up front unless you specifically requested annuity payments ( typically over 20 years.)

After a lot of talking between me, my dad, and my stepmom, we all know not to do anything sudden or stupid like sending this money off, because that would (in all likelihood) just lead to immediate financial ruin within a matter of days, as the $3900 would be long gone, plus when the $5000 check bounces you are left with almost 9 grand missing from your bank account.

In fact, I would just as soon contact the FBI and turn the check over to them for investigation into this matter.

I think right now the only thing we'll be out of is the cost of having dinner at Chili's. All things considered, a very minor price to pay. Not to mention, the food was pretty good too.

File this under: Go to Jail. Do not pass Go, do not collect $200.

Yesterday was the event I'd been waiting for all summer long, and made sure to get the day off well in advance, the day of the Dream Theater concert at the Bank of America Pavilion.

I woke up in the morning around 10, I logged on for about an hour and then I had to get off to do some personal errands [billpaying and such]. I wound up getting down to South Boston about 2 PM.

Since the show wasn't until 7:30, I first located the concert venue for reference, then walked around for a while around the Harborwalk. I eventually wound up by the US Federal Courthouse, where there was a film crew shooting a scene for some movie [I didn't get the chance to ask the name of it]. I watched briefly then moved on. I eventually wound up at South Station, where free Heralds were being handed out. I grabbed one and read through that, then got some McDonalds and hopped the Silver Line back over to the World Trade Center .

By this time, it was about 5 PM. I had an hour to kill, so I grabbed a Lemonade Coolata from the Dunkins at the WTC then went to my car and listened to mostly Michael Vic blabber on AM 850. After the Whiner Line, I headed back over to the concert venue and the gates were open, so in I went. Two bands opened before Dream Theater did. Both were metal bands, though the first Metal band [whose name I did not know] got a better reception than the second band Redemption did. I didn't particularly care about their metal brand of music, but it was okay I suppose.

The stage for the concert was set up like the cover of their latest album, Systematic Chaos, the ants, the highway infastructures, and of course the traffic light at the top of the stage, whose light order had been reversed [Green on top, yellow in the middle, and red on the bottom]. The band mostly played the tracks from the recent album, they opened with Constant Motion and closed with both ends of In the Presence of Enemies, though a couple classics and a few tracks I didn't recognize were thrown in the middle.

I'd have to say overall the show was pretty good. The crowd was well behaved, though most of the cheap seats were empty, the closer seats where I was sitting was about 85-90% capacity. I did a lot of walking around, and the entire time Dream Theater was playing, there was hardly a soul in the audience who was sitting. My feet and calves were hurting a little from all the walking and I had a light headache after I got home, but nothing a couple of Aspirin couldn't handle. My hearing was better than I thought it would be as well.

I was unfortunately not able to take any pictures, though I did bring my cellphone, which has a camera in it, the pictures didn't come out very well from about 12 rows back and to the far right of the stage itself.

On the ironic side, as I was walking along the waterfront, I could look out to the other side and immediately recognize all of the buildings on the other side -- because that's Governor's Island, better known as Logan International Airport, East Boston, MA. I said to myself, looking at the illuminated buildings across the water after the show "Well, I'll be back over there tomorrow."

How true that statement is, I'm scheduled for a ~1030 PM pickup at the airport later tonight.

Yes, I've been waiting quite a long time for this concert. Dream Theater at the Bank of America Pavilion, South Boston (Northern Ave, not far from the Seaport/World Trade Center) at 7:30 tonight! The ticket I bought as soon as the tickets went on sale has been on my refrigerator for months now, and I requested the day off [and the morning after to ensure proper sleep] for the concert.

The weather forecast looks great, you couldn't ask for better weather in an open venue [granted I'm sitting under a roof section.]

On the details, I've decided to go by car. I have some errands and things I need to do beforehand before I can head off to Boston, but I'd expect to be down in Boston proper around roughly 2:00 PM, give or take. I'll probably walk around for a while and find something to do to kill the time, then grab something to eat before the show.

As for the show itself, well we'll see soon enough. Expect an update posted here tomorrow on the show.

So, yeah, I woke up this morning and knew that there was a big RV/bus sitting parked over at the Hannaford's [Supermarket chain] today over at Drum Hill from frequently visiting the area for grocery needs.

The short story, the vehicle belonged to the American Red Cross, and I took some time out of my day (about half an hour-40 minutes) to donate blood to them. It was relatively easy and not particularly painful, plus you get free snacks and drinks.

It's pretty simple to qualify to donate, aside from some rare diseases and AIDS, and some broad travel and some other miscellaneous stuff [most notably, no sexual contact as a male with other men, sorry bisexual and homosexual people.]. Oh, and you have to be at least 17 years old.

Overall, the experience was nice, and I felt just fine afterwards. Only drawback is now I have to wait until October to donate again. Oh well, worth it though. Who knows what life that blood may save? I reccommend others do it too, they need the blood anyway.

I wonder exactly what I did to get two running days off in a row?

Well, okay, I traded working the Fourth for it, I suppose. (Two runs on the Fourth)

Aside from that, I took the free time to head up to Maine with my dad for most of the weekend. Me and him went up to see one of my aunts, who bought a place up there with her husband last year, moving from Rhode Island. We got back several hours ago, but I needed to do my laundry, as I can probably guess things will be back to normal now that the pseudo-holiday week is all done now starting tomorrow.

How was it? Not too bad overall.

Pros: Great view [includes the sky too on a clear night], great scenery, pretty fireflies at night.

Cons: At least half an hour to get anywhere[nearest store, post office, interstate highway, etc.], LOTS of bugs [don't go into the woods or outside at night unless you're wearing long sleeves/pants, bug spray, or preferably all of the above], unpredictable weather [and you thought the weather here was bad?], didn't see any moose or deer, somewhat boring.

Well, last time I checked it was June 3... Now I look and it's June 22, almost two thirds of a month later. So pray tell, what has the three tailed fox been up to in recent times?

Work. AND LOTS OF IT. Up until this recent week, I've been pretty much everywhere but home and online, being ridiculously overworked and under-slept.

However, the work is not without it's own merit though. Our company has hired some new drivers, which has gone a long way in taking some of the pressure off the already existing ones, myself included. In the meantime, I racked up two straight weeks of incredible earnings, $750 and over $800 just today respectively. As a result, this finally puts an end to all the financial stress and worries that I had at the beginning of the year from last Christmas.

Of course, this foxy will be smart, and whatever's left over after taking care of the last few bills will go into savings as a buffer against this coming Christmas. I don't need to be going through that stress again.

Also, depending on how the upcoming checks shape up, I may have a little bit of reserve cash for a mini-vacation of some sort. I'm thinking if that comes up, then this fox will be out of town for a few days. I'm either thinking about either Foxwoods or perhaps FurFright in October. It's undecided at this point, so you'll probably hear more as information comes to light.

This relates somewhat to my previous entry, Least Conventional way to meet females, read on. My choice of song for this entry is absolutely appropriate for my mood today.

As I am currently losing yet another weekend to work, I got an email back from the daughter-penpal that arrived in my email overnight. It sounds like she's going to be rather busy with other things between now and the time she has to leave for that mission thingy.

To quote the comment I made just yesterday on this subject, in reply to jonjonthefox's post:

"However, knowing my generally horrifying god-awful luck with females, nothing of the like will even come close to happening. Honestly, I'm not expecting anything to come out of this."

This combined with getting shitty morning runs in the past 3 days has wreaked murderous hell on my sleep pattern. I went to bed at 11:00 last night, which in case you're wondering is VERY early for me. I slept like a rock, and just got up only a little while ago. Right now, I'm feeling rather disappointed and lonely. I barely have another hour online, then I have to get ready for more work... I totally need to take some frustration out. Maybe write a new IVS on just this whole thing.

Also, in other news, the boss has announced that we are now an official affiliate of Boston Coach, which is the biggest limousine company in the area. You can't go to any terminal at the airport at any time without seeing at least one driver either working for or providing service for Boston Coach. What this means for the business [and most likely for me] is that we'll pick up some business as they fax us reservations for us to take care of. Exactly how much business we'll pick up is unknown at this point, that will only be known as time goes on.

... Oftentimes I have a 7 days a week work schedule. Depending on what business this brings, I may go to the boss and start demanding 1 day a week off, just to have some time to recharge my batteries from the rest of the crap I get. Not to mention put a strict limit on how many morning runs I get in a week.

.. would have to be to get invited to someone's house, and meet them when you walk in the door.

If it sounds strange, you're probably right. But that's what wound up happening to me last night.

To quote my May 14 entry:

- And, finally, on the shorter end of the looking forward to list, the daughter of a female co-worker friend I know from work [The daughter in question is college-aged, mind you] is flying back to Boston from California on May 30. For the record, me and the daughter have been e-penpals to this point, nothing more.

And also to post here what I was thinking shortly before I arrived at her house:

Groton Center, 930 PM, May 30 2007.

I'm about to meet my female friend coworker's daughter for the first time. She seems nice from the emails we've exchanged. I feel a bit happy and hopeful. Even if she doesn't have the anime she promised, I wouldn't be mad at all. Why would I be anyway? Maybe it's just me being sick and tired of the single life, I'm long overdue for something really positive to happen in my life.

And now to share my thoughts, it being the morning after now:

She's a little shorter than I thought she would be, definitely a gene she inherited from her mother, but other than that, she looked pretty nice. She had another [female] friend of hers over as well, we all made cake, chatted for a while, then watched Goonies. I had a great time there, and I'd absolutely love to waste another night doing something similar. Though next time, maybe without the parental unit hanging around.

So, yeah, a single guy in a house with three ladies... Sounds like the backdrop to a shady movie of sorts, but rest assured nothing happened in there. I felt right at home there, too [I think it really helped that the house was a bit messy and disorganized. But that's plus points in my book ] I didn't get back until almost 2 AM, and for some reason couldn't sleep that well overnight, probably because my thoughts were filled over the previous night.

Oh, yes, and I sent off a nice little email to the daughter-penpal this morning.

*Blows dust off of this DA journal*

Yeah, it's been a while sine I've had anything really newsworthy in my life from this corner of the globe.

Some general updates since last entry:

- The Red Sox keep winning and winning some more, they're now tops in all of Baseball with a 25-11 Record, with Baltimore and the Yankees a distant 2nd/3rd. Woo, let's hope for that continuing trend!

- A couple weeks back, my parents booked a trip to Florida. The following week my dad was unexpectedly fired from his job on a technicality, as a result of someone else [NOT my dad, mind you] was stealing money from the store. They still went to Florida though, I took them in this morning at 3:00 AM. They'll be gone for a week.

- Two weekends ago, I finally decided to trade in a bunch of old games and a not-really-being-used PSP in to get a Nintendo DS, effectively putting my well-travelled Gameboy Advance into retirement [I've had it 4+ years, not bad for a $40 investment at the time]. Also I got Pokemon Diamond, and it hasn't taken me long to rack up 40+ hours playing time. If you're curious, I wound up spending a modest $40something dollars for it, plus I got some free stuff out of the deal too.

- Also, on a more personal note, earlier last week, I found out that Dream Theater [A band that I quite literally stumbled upon, and have since come to like their music] is coming to Boston on August 21 for a concert. A quick check of the bank account reveals I can afford myself a ticket to go, so put this one in the Upcoming Events book. So, I'll have at least something do over the summer if nothing else changes. ^_^

- And, finally, on the shorter end of the looking forward to list, the daughter of a female co-worker friend I know from work [The daughter in question is college-aged, mind you] is flying back to Boston from California on May 30. For the record, me and the daughter have been e-penpals to this point, nothing more.

(Miles' Opinion: Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't you supposed to meet the parents AFTER you're already semi-serious with the girl so that they can "kill" you? Miles won't complain, though, at least this way, at least one parent knows that I'm a nice guy.)

After I got back from my little nursing encounter just after midnight, I wanted to get some sleep for an upcoming 5 AM run...

No dice whatsoever, the people living in the apartment behind me are throwing a party... Loud music, people talking, the whole bit. So I logged on to my computer with nothing else to do and talked it up with Nyte for a while, being about the only person on at the time. Tossed on some music to kill time.

Anyway, an hour and a half or so later, around 2 AMish, I suddenly hear a lot of noise and screaming from the rear apartment. I go out to the back door and unlock it. Sure enough, someone was arguing, and another guy came out and tossed a bottle into the dirt parking lot out back, then a chair. It was at this point I went back inside and called the police on them.

The police came and took care of the situation, but by this time it was already after 2:00 AM. By this time I said screw it, and just stayed up all night until 4:00 AM when I had to leave for the run. I got back just about 615 AM and went straight to bed.

I slept until 2:00 in the afternoon.

Yeah, I had today completely off, in what seems to be a recent slowdown in business for the limo company...

But that's not what I'm here for, I get to share some background in what led up to the events! XP

First thing's first, my stepmother had surgery on Thursday to alleviate lower back pain. My dad had the day off to be with her pretty much.

Next up, I get a call late Thursday night from my Dad. He tells me that he has to go into work Friday afternoon, and asked me if I could keep an eye on her while he worked. I say sure thing if I have the time off.

Friday morning comes, the office calls about 11 AM. Check's ready, so I shoot on over to pick it up. I talk to the boss, who says it's a dead day, but he'll have stuff for me Sat. and Easter Sunday. So I head for Drum Hill to deposit the paycheck and do some personal errands. This brings us to about 1230, in which I call the house, my dad has to run a quick errand, and then he needs a ride to the Ford dealership in Billerica to pick up his car. I grab some lunch and then head over to give him the lift, it's not that far [the next town over], so no problem.

Of course, I also bring: A frozen pizza to cook up for dinner, My laundry [their washer is fixed finally], my PS2, my Ipod Nano, my GBA, and a Sports Radio, because the Red Sox were playing, as well as their laptop, which I could use. I drop all this at the house before giving him a lift over to the repair place, making sure he's all set before coming back.

I got back around 215~230ish and spent most of the rest of the time upstairs at Dad's place, responding to my stepmom as needed, who's still recovering from the surgery, so she can't get around very well. The rest of the evening chugs along slowly, doing my laundry and cooking the pizza as I go, listening to the game [Sox lost, 2-0]. Once the game ended, I watched one of my Wolfs Rain DVD's for a while to kill some time. Finally I mess around with their comp for a while and play some Razz.

[Razz = 7-card Stud Poker variation, in which the objective is to get the LOWEST hand instead of the highest. Aces are 1's, with the best possible hand being 5-4-3-2-A]

It was semi-boring for the most part, but I knew I was doing my dad a favor for this, so it works out I suppose. He got back about 1130 last night.

Well, a nice young lady attending Holy Cross College in Worcester will have a story to remember, most likely for years to come.

Yeah, that's what happens when you have the following factors:

1. You get sent a stretch limo instead of the usual towncars

2. There's a raging Nor'Easter [snowstorm] blowing outside.

3. Your campus and dorm area is on a steep hill that's virtually impassible in the snow.

3a. Especially with a vehicle that has rear-wheel-drive [the limo itself]

4. If that wasn't enough, the driver of the car gets stuck in snow out in the parking lot. [that'd be me].

5. Eventually, some snowplow guys came and helped the driver get unstuck, thus avoiding a near-collision with a parked car

6. You're trying to go to Amherst, NH in said snowstorm. [Note: Middle-of-nowhere-style town]

Pretty much what the result will be is one heck of a story to tell to your friends [and family too] once you get back on campus.

What I get out of the deal is a lot of frustration, a long-assed drive, a BIG appetite [pickup was at 630, I don't think I dropped till well after 9], and a $20 tip.

I still don't think that run was worth doing. Not to mention I'm not ever pulling that kind of stunt again. Lesson learned there.

Oh, and the only good thing: The girl was very attractive :3

I am currently at: Planet Earth

So, I went by the office for one of those usual last-minute run deals that I'm known for, and I notice that there's a new paper posted on the door for parking assignments. I distinctly notice that numbers 15 and 16 are missing. A quick inquiry revealed that cars 15 and 16 are no more; our company got rid of them.

Miles' reaction: "Praise the Lord!"

You see, Cars 15 and 16 were the fleet grandfathers, I've driven them both numerous times. 16 takes the cake though with a faulty electric system and the fact that it only gets one radio station, WBZ 1030.

Also by disposing of those two cars, we also took care of two cars whose total cumulative mileage was nearly 650,000!

That's right, both cars had over 300,000 Miles on them.

To put this in perspective, a car that we got just after I started for the company [this time last year], and the car I have sitting outside right now for a run later, has 84,500 miles on it.

That's a whopping 256 miles per day, based on 330 days of service [we use the cars almost every day, but they get days off here and there]
