Hello all,

Sorry for the extremely long hiatus. I won't go into a lot of detail but a lot has happened in my personal life to keep me away from artwork and writing. I always debate how much to share about such things online. Too much and you appear all emo and fishing for reactions. Too little and people think you're aloof.

All I'll say for now is that I'm generally healthy and happy but unfortunately I've spent way too much time in hospitals this year with relatives and friends. Those of you who've been through such things know how it can disrupt your life. I think most of the drama is over for now and hopefully things will be back to (what passes for) normal.

I wish I were fast enough and good enough to do an actual web comic but I'm just not there yet. Practice makes perfect I suppose.

Speaking of "Men In, Women Out" I'm surprised that not a single person mentioned the cameo appearance in the comic. I didn't think it was all that subtle so I can't decide if everyone saw it and just shrugged it off or if no one noticed...?

Anyway, I am leaning towards comic-y ideas. I just hope you will be patient with me because I'm sure it will take me a while to do such a thing. I will not bore everyone with all the reasons why I have not had time for so-called art lately, other than to say that real life has to come first.

There are art reasons for the delay that might be worth pointing out. I am still trying to learn how to do something more cartoony, which you can see in "Men In, Women Out". I still need to develop a style that is simple but nice to look at and doesn't take a ridiculous amount of time to do. I like taking the time to do more artsy pieces but on the other hand sometimes I want to tell a story and don't have the time to do all the shading and so on that it would take to do a full-blown comic book style.

I am still trying to learn how to ink digitally. I'm not happy with the results I got from Adobe Illustrator...but that's more likely operator error than anything to do with the software. Still it took a very long time to get results that I really don't like. Sigh...

Anyway, now that this monkey is off my back...um, I mean now that "Men In, Women Out" is done...I will probably turn my attention back to writing for a while.
To my utter astonishment, I've passed 40,000 hits. Thank you, everyone, for continuing to view my silly stuff. I'm constantly amazed by your support and very thankful for it.

I decided to try a 3-month subscription and had to play with my new toys, so there is a poll for you to answer if you like. The poll lets you tell me what you'd like to see for a 40k image -- I'm really curious to see what you folks prefer. I have some guesses based on what images are more popular but this is your chance to tell me directly what I should do....um...what I should draw, that is!

I actually have several ideas that I've sketched out already, so I'll probably continue developing those until I see what direction the polling goes.

Thanks again!

Hi! Just a quick note to make excuses--er, explain why I haven't posted anything lately. I've mentioned before that I'm a freelance programmer and currently I have two customers expecting nearly full time from me. Add to that family stuff and you'd think I'd be busy enough for anyone, right?

Silly you!

Obviously I'm not busy enough, so I am at a conference in Orlando, learning all about the new development tools and platforms coming out in the coming year from Microsoft (please, no anti-MS comments. Whatever your opinion may be, I make a very nice living by using their products, thank you very much.). It's a Geek-fest of immense proportions -- thousands of geeks and geekettes descending on the unsuspecting home of the Mouse...only to spend hour after hour in presentations!

At least they try to make things fun. Tomorrow they are renting out Universal Studio's Islands of Adventure. Tens of thousands of geeks will take over the park, drink free booze, and ride rides. This was a major source of entertainment for me last time I was at this event, so I'm looking forward to it!

So, instead of trying to make one or the other of my customers happy I am hiding in Florida. My master plan seems to be working as they are now both mad at me, instead of just one. At least now they can't say I'm favoring one over the other.

All of this, of course, leaves very little time for art work. I have a Tablet PC, so the theory is that I can do some drawing while I'm here. The reality is that I've only managed to do some very sketchy sketches. All of my ideas involve sequences right now so who knows how long it will take me to finish? I may do something I've never done before and post some sketches just for fun....though I'm not sure the world is ready to see my sketches!

Anyway, there's my excuse. Hopefully I can get some stuff done during downtime...at the very least I ought to get some interesting looks if people see what I'm sketching......

I did say I would finish the new image on Sunday, right? Of course I really mean this Sunday....um...yeah.

Last week was the week from Hades, Episode #432. The good news is that the major demo we were working towards took place Friday morning went really well, including actual applause!

I therefore have steadfastly refused to do anything like real work since the demo. I played games Friday afternoon, gardened yesterday and went to my boys' baseball games, and today finished my latest bit of silliness.

Oh, speaking of which, there is a new character in the image. I am not sure how often Viola will show up. I view her as someone who isn't so much evil as simply guided purely by her own self-interest and somewhat odd sense of humor. Sure, she knows that it is wrong to completely transform someone into someone (or something) else...she just doesn't care that it's wrong.

Viola, by the way, is a purple flower and also the name of the first insturment I learned how to play, lo those many years ago when I was in elementary school.

Hi all!

Just a quick note to let you know that I still exist. I got a not-so-gentle nudge from someone recently about my complete lack of artistic (so-called) endeavors lately.

Unfortunately work has been very busy. I work for myself as a freelance software developer, something I am having a lot of fun doing. This does mean, though, that my work is therefore at the whim of my customers. Recently my two largest customers have both been handing me a lot of projects. I've been putting 80+ hour weeks regularly since January, and 60+ hour weeks before that. The good news is that 2006 was the best year I've had since I started doing this; the bad news is that I sit in front of a keyboard way too many hours each day (well that and taxes....don't get me started).

All work and no play makes Circe a dull girl.

Well not really, it makes Circe a very frustrated sorceress...not a good thing to be around.

Anyway, I think I'm finally catching up, just in time for another birthday (I'm going to be 39....again! ). My present to myself is going to be more time for art/writing/music. I'm thinking of just planning a certain amount of time each day to devote to artistic pursuits.

Heh, I made a funny. Me? Plan? That's hysterical!

Anyway, I'm fairly close to a new TG piece that I hope to have done by tonight or tomorrow. I also see that my page views are getting to a point where I'd better to get to work on a new "Thank you" image!

Thanks for your patience everyone, hopefully I'll have something soon.

Wow! I knew I was getting close to 10,000 but I actually went right on by 11k!

I have never done a thank you image and I feel that I should. I have no idea what to do, though that is probably due to the fact that I have not had my caffiene yet today! So I'm curious to see what ideas you folks may have. What would you like to see? More fanfic? A favorite transformation? Fluffy bunnies and rainbows?

If you're not comfortable publicly responding feel free to pm me. I hope to get started soon (I'm working on another project but am almost done) and hopefully have something by next weekend!*

Thanks for all the views, everyone. I'm really amazed and flattered that so many have seen my silly scribblings!

Hi!

I finally got my new video card (long story short: the vendor misplaced technical support's order) and I'm back in the happy land of 1680x1050! I also added an additional hard drive because renderings and models are eating up the main drive. I'm dangerous now--over 500GB! Woo-hoo! That will store a lot of silly drawings!

I actually intended to celebrate by doing some drawing...but...well...I've been playing CivCity:Rome. So far the only problem I can see with the game is a distinct lack of centaurs....sigh.

Anyway, if God and my customers are willing I should be able to do some art over the next few days. I have no earthly idea what I'm going to do, except for one. I have to get started on my EGS Secret Santa thing or I'll be in big trouble! Other than that I'm open to suggestions.

A Break From Art

This is my first journal entry and unfotunately I have bad news. My nice new computer's video card went kablooey this morning. This is the first time I've had one literally die in the middle of using a computer but I suppose there is a first time for everything. The good news is that the computer is still under warranty and Velocity Micro has great customer service -- I definitely reccomend the company. The bad news is that the card is not in stock so it will be a few days before I'm up and running again. Until then I'm on my laptop.

I'll therefore be taking a break from artwork for a few days, although I may experiment some since the laptop is a tablet pc. I don't think it will be as good as my Wacom but it might be interesting to see if I can make anything worthwhile on it.

Ah the hazards of being a purely digital artist....I suppose I could break down and buy pencils and paper. Nah.

This is probably a good time for me to get back to writing projects that have been on hold for a very long time as I've been experimenting with drawing. Hopefully I still remember how to put one word after another!

Hopefully I'll be back up and running in a few days!
