Hey kids, pull up a chair and lets us all have us a lil chat here

First off, it's a brandy new year, so Happy New Year and all that what would be associated with said year being new.

We have us some news to discuss, some good....and some bad

First the good news, after my taking a small break from the world of freelance art (15 years is short right?) I've decided to, as they say...shit or get off the pot. This means you're gonna be seeing alot of work by me here ya might not have expected as I gear up to conquer the world....okay okay....as I gear up to do the whole mass mailings, portfolio drops and assorted other hoop jumping we do as freelancers.

Now the bad news...because I have come to this decision and it's one that was long in coming believe me..I hate my fuckin job with a passion...I hate working in an office...I hate cubicles and old ladies that are always fuckin cold so the heat gets jacked up to the damn surface temperature of the damn sun and I hate pants....I hate that I have to get up and put on pants to go to the job I hate, to the office I can't stand to sit in the cubicle that is a prison and listen to the cold old ladies. Pants are a symbol of my oppression.

Wait I got off the topic, the bad news, because my time will be spent working on getting my act together there will be no more time for the Watchamcallit, yes I plan in finishing out the Secret Wars but thats it with him. I have had to come to the decision that as much fun as he is, there is no money to be made with him. The comic book companies I approached with him have turned him down so I'll leave him at that. I know alot of you anly watch me to see what nonsense he'll be getting into next and all I can say is, if you wanna stick around and see the other work I produce cool, other wise I understand if you decide to move on and watch other people.

Now before I wrap this up there are some people out there that have kept me going this year despite my bouts of self loathing let's take a look at them shall we:

#3. How exactly can I "burn the book" when any reasonably intelligent person will point out to you that there is in fact, no such book to burn. The Necronomicon is a creation of a writer of horror fiction and has become a staple of popular culture used in various writings, movies, television shows and cartoons. Although there are some printed books calling themselves the necronomicon they are in fact simply books written to cash in on said item of popular culture or things called "roleplaying aides" used for various "roleplaying" games.....you know, fake, not real, made up

posted making some rather rude assumptions as to Matt's sexuality. Now look kids, and I'm saying kids cause frankly I'm probably twice the age of most of you reading this, I've learned to live by one rule in life;

If it makes ya happy and it ain't bothering me or causing harm to me or my family then go knock yerself out.

I don't care if ya like having yerself tied up, yer sack smacked around, ya like members of the same sex as you, or what. If yer a good person yer a good person, I've met a lotta straight lace people that turned out ta be assholes.

Anyway back to my original thought, the person made their statement, which to me sounds like someone just lookin to start somethin and people have posted responses, me being one of 'em. Here's what I wrote;

It's DONE!!! Solomon Grundy is FINALLY mine!!!!!

I know, you're all out there saying jeeze man it's just a friggin action figure.....and you're right, but it's a figure from a line that I was actively collecting based on a cartoon I loved whose manufacturers decided would best be released only at the 2006 San Diego Comic Con in LIMITED quantities at a rather high price point. Again you say, but man he's just a toy, yeah again I know, but for those of you reading this journal you already know that when it comes to my comic book preferences I lean to the large and monstrous (ie: Hulk, the Thing, Man-Thing) and when big boy here debuted on the JLU series he was definitely meant to be Bruce Timm's take on the Hulk alot more then the Super Friends "Grundy wants pants too" version.....then add in the fact that to cement this idea they had two episode's wherein Grundy, Dr. Fate, Aquaman and later Amazo are basically the JLU version of the Defenders and man I just had to have a figure of this bad boy....except I live in Jersey with no means of going to Comic Con.....DENIED.....made me stop collecting the whole line all together, hey I live by the 11th commandment - "Thou Shalt Collect Them All" the whole exclusive figure nonsence made me sour to the line like the limited edition Picard soured Uncle Freak to the Star Trek:TNG line. Now recently DC put out an excellent (except for the last issue's whole hey he's a black lantern now cop out crap) Solomon Grundy mini series and that got me itching for that Grundy figure again but hey I can't just go an blow the ridiculous amount they want for him on ebay without my wife skinning mt alive so I had to do it with a little help from all of you out there that hired me for the commissions, I thank you all........crap did you know they made a three pack of the created just for the Super Friends cartoon heroes.......hell here I go again.

The slashers keep on rolling in, and I got ta thinking after the my initial post that most people think of the Hollywood "slasher" as just that only but there are quite a few archtypes

Lately I've been thinking....which is always a bad thing...but anyway, what crossed my mind is that there are no new iconic movie slashers. Lately everything is about the remake/reinvention of already established characters like Jason, Micheal and now Freddy. So here's my idea, we're artists, we've all seen these movies and I'm sure like me you've all said to yourselves "This sucks, I could do better then that" So lets try just that, from now till the end of November, design a Hollywood style slasher and their backstory....go nuts....come up with something outrageous, some really wild theme that no one has done before or take something tried and true and make it uniquely yours.

Also, if I go and do designs for a Watchamacallit action figure to be submitted to Patch Together [link] would anyone actually go vote on it and actually buy it?

Oh and by the way, the final decision for the Four Monsters - Golem, Demon, Living Dead Zombie, Deep One and a bonus of the giant man sized Insect...you'll find out what this was all about soon.

I've decided not to take part in this OC tournament and I'll tell ya why. First off I'm gonna pull double duty in the Secret Wars with characters on both sides of the fight. Second, the nonsense had already started with messages telling me that the Gargoyle didn't fit into the 20's setting and that the secret behind the Enigma was to obvious and as such the Watchamacallit was to powerful to be part of the storyline. So I hope everyone taking part has fun but I'll keep my pulp hero and orange freak out of the way of all the 20's appropriate characters.

An Update

I'm gonna call off the Art Jam for June, not a lotta interest in it and quite frankly I'm not very artistic right now.

I've been thinking about the fact that I am no spring chicken anymore and I will probably never again work in the art industry. Factor in the fact that my artwork has kinda sucked lately and lacks any real cohesion or direction. What I mean is I don't do sequential art so I'm not a comic artist/cartoonist, my artwork is apparently not lowbrow enough to be lowbrow, been told recently that my horror art isn't scary enough to be horror artwork, my subject matter isn't naked or female enough to be pin up, and what I consider pop culture isn't the right pop culture material or painted to be considered art show or gallery worthy.

So where does that leave me? No idea where at the moment...
