So.... last time I updated, I was living in my childhood home of Kanab, which as far as living there it was awesome. As far as the job was concerned, it wasn't that cool. I wanted it to work soooo bad, but It just wasn't the job it was thought to be as far as creativity, and opportunity. I learned some awesome stuff from doing magazine layout, but as far as being the kind of artist I wanted to be, and having a boss as a micro manager it wasn't for me. I found another job, in my wife's dream city, which is only an hours drive from Kanab, in St. George, Utah. It's similar climate, but the elevation is a lot lower, so it is even more of a desert area. It is the largest city in Southern Utah, so we do have all the amenities that we didn't have in Kanab, and I have a great job as the Graphic Artist for the company Xtreme Graphix.

Currently I am the do all and everything artist from logos, to t-shirt design, to car vinyl wraps business cards and anything else design. Things have been really busy work wise, so I have been stressing about too much work, and still learning certain things like color separation for screen printing. So far we've figured it out. Hopefully, as times keep looking up I will become more of a designer, with hiring another person to help with the production and day to day artwork. I have some awesome design ideas, and my boss and I, are on the same page with a lot of ideas, so hopefully in the near future things will get better.

I'll start posting some of the stuff that I've done for my job. Well great talking with ya, and I'll update in another year probably.

So I haven't done too much lately, but I am going to write something anyways. I am getting more and more comfortable at my job, even though it is hard to do everything exactly how the boss wants it. I am specifically talking about magazine lalyouts. He is a perfectionist, which isn't totally bad except that the only way he is okay with something is if he did it. So the dilema is that I could do something 100 times, but it isn't what he would do. It's hard to get in someone's head. So I do my best, and get close sometimes and every once in a while do something really close to what he wants.

I recently did some clothing designs, and we went to a big expo at the Salt Palace in Salt Lake City. My designs sold pretty well, and my one design did really well, which is gratifying to see. So onward I go, I realized that I could sell my own designs, but have to find the right market. I realized I live in an extremely popular tourist area, and I should be designing stuff for myself to sell here. There is quite a few places that sell gifts and such, but I feel I could do some new and unique things that aren't out there yet, so I will be working on that. I will post stuff as I work it out.

Other than that I recently got done coaching a 5th and 6th grade basketball team, which we did pretty well, as well as in my church I got asked to be the Scoutmaster, so I am looking forward to some camping trips with the scouts this summer. My wife and I are just working, and looking forward to the summer as well. It is actually pretty nice weather for winter time, but am excited to go up into the hills when it gets warmer.

Well that's about it for an update.
Adios

I applied for a bunch of jobs, and got some offer's from some of them. I was surprised to find a job in the little town that I grew up in in Southern Utah. It is working for a hunting magazine called Muley Crazy and it is quite a change from my last job, but I'm learning a lot and feel I'll definitely be a better artist and designer when I decide to move on.

Over the 4th of July weekend I went down to Southern Utah again, and me, my cousin, and brother-in-law went on the coolest ATV ride ever. It was about 50 miles through some of the coolest country in the world. We went through sand, and cool rock formations, we saw remnants from the anasazi indians, and also views of Zion National Park that very few people have seen. We hiked down to the virgin river and just had a blast overall. The only problem was that I forgot my camera, and my cousins camera flew out of the pack on the back of the ATV. So I don't have any pictures of the trip, so I guess I'll have to go again. This weekend I am hiking up into the back country in the high Uintas and camping for four days with a couple of my buddies. Our wives are all a little worried about us and think we'll get eaten by bears, but I've got my bear mace, and bear bell and we'll be good. Well I'll take my camera on this one so hopefully I'll have some pictures.

I'll be going down to Southern Utah this weekend, and while my wife goes to a bridal shower me and my cousin are going to go exploring the desert, so I am excited about that. I do need to go on a longer getaway, as I haven't really done much in way of a vacation since I left Vancouver. So We will be going somewhere nice in a few months.
I've been busy at work, but doing production work, which isn't that fun. We kind of caught up on our designs, and I am now in charge of catching us up on the organizational stuff. I am almost finished, so I can get back to designing. I also met with some people with a start up business wanting me to do some illustrations for a computer program so I hope that goes well. Well that's the update, Maybe I'll post some of my photos from my exploration.

Life goes on. The snow keeps falling, and it's bitter cold outside. If I knew how o ski or snowboard I'd be in heaven as Park City isn't too far away. It is beautiful up there, but I'm a red rock desert, and warm weather fan and can't wait for the Spring. Speaking of the Red Rock my uncle in Southern Utah started up an ATV touring company and I produced the logo. He finally has the website up, and you can check it out at [link] .
An exciting thing with my job is that they have launched the new stores and that means we are going to get busier and busier. Here are the links to the new brands [link] and [link] . Because we are getting so busy we will be hiring another person. That person would be a production artist/graphic artist. The main thing that we need is someone to deal with the production work which is mainly done in illustrator, and the separations for the film to be put on the screens for the screen printing. The second thing would be to produce designs for the t-shirts when your not doing production work. It is a full time job, and comes with benefits. Because the company is growing so much there will be room to move up in the company, and it is a great way to learn on the job. If any of you are interested in the job let me know, and I can forward your stuff on to my Art Director. You also have to be able to work in the U.S and be willing to live here in the Salt Lake area. You have to be pretty good, and have a good understanding of illustrator, photoshop, and other related software. So that's that, if anyone is interested.
On a personal note I would just like to pay my respects to President Gordon B. Hinckley who was the prophet and president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (aka: the mormons) He passed away a couple days ago at the age of 97. Being a member of the Church myself, he had a great influence on me and my life and was a great leader who lead by example. He was a great witness for the Gospel of Jesus Christ. A new President will be called from the existing quorum of the twelve apostles and I know they will be the right person for the job, but we will miss Pres. Hinckley.

Howdy Ya'll,
Well life is rolling along whether or not I'm ready. This is my fourth week on the job and I'm loving it. I am just drawing and painting at my own little desk here at Del Sol. I have already had my first design printed, and I have two more that I am trying to finish this week. It's a really cool atmosphere, it is all goal oriented and we just watch youtube and listen to music as we work. The crazy thing is we are really busy. Del Sol is launching two whole new stores called Sol Kids, and Cariloha. Sol Kids is a kids only clothing store, they are opening up a couple in the Carribean this January, so we are trying to get all the designs done for the new store. Cariloha is also a new store opening up in the Carribean in the new year. Cariloha is a high end clothing store like a Tommy Bahama's with regular t-shirt designs. We have to have all the designs done for both stores by mid November. So they have asked me to put in a bunch of overtime. With this kind of a job you really don't mind working that much, but sitting at a desk 10-12 hours a day is pretty hard. My wife (Nichole) found out that she got the Manager job for a brand new large apartment community in West Jordan, Utah so I am excited about that not only will my commute to work be 15 minutes instead of an hour to two hours one way, but we get $400 off of rent so hopefully we can get ahead financially. We are planning to have a kid sometime next year, which I am excited to be a dad. Well I'll try and post some of my sketches and ideas from work.
Adios,

Life got pretty crazy the last little while, at least work wise. I applied for a couple jobs, and my freelance work took a break, because the company I was working for had a couple conventions to go to to sell the T-shirt designs I had been working on. So with no money I picked up a part time job delivering Pizza (Yippy Skippy). I then had job interviews with two companies for illustrator positions, one company offered me the job this last Monday, but I had a second interview with the other company on Tuesday. The first company was nice enough to let me go to the other job interview and make a decision by the end of the week. So I went to the second interview, and they said they would let me know by Thursday. So Thursday comes around and I am stressed out, wondering what I am going to do with my life and all, and the time is getting later and later and finally I call them up, and talk to the art director and he said I got the job their too. Well my wife and I decided that the second job would be the best job for me and for the future. So I have a bonafide job with benefits, and I get to draw and the company looks like a real fun atmosphere. I will be working for the company Del Sol in Salt Lake City as a Graphic Artist/Illustrator designing t-shirts and other items. They specifically wanted me to do characters, and cartoons for their new kids stores. They have a specific kind of ink that changes color in the sun. You can check their website out at [link]. So I am excited, the only bummer is that the company I was doing freelance for is in direct competition with my new company so they said I can't do any more work for them. They were cool to work for, unfortunately in freelance it isn't consistent. They did sell a few of my designs to some companies in Florida. My "Gator" Done design was bought by Gator World, so anyone in Florida go to Gator World and check it out. Well I thought I'd just let everyone know what is going on with me, and there it is.
