So as you may know, Boondock City has just hit one hundred episodes! I just want to say a huge "Thank you" to everyone who's stopped by to check it out. Definitely a major point for the comic. Things have certainly changed since March 2006, when the very-first episode launched on MySpace [hurr hurr]. Again, thanks everyone for being even just a small part of the first hundred issues. Here's to a hundred more.

Speaking of comics, my friend Cole [though not the Cole seen in occasional episodes of Boondock City] has started posting a comic of his own, called "Wasted". Chapter one is already uploaded to his gallery, with chapter two on the way. It's dark and apocalyptic, and very cool. You should check it out.

I just stumbled upon this website, put on by John Campbell. Basically, people make a small comic panel, or two, for each hour they're awake. Jeph Jacques did one, and I imagine a lot of other people did, too.

Unfortunately, thanks to the lack of magic needed for time travel [for now...muahahahahah], February 1st has already passed. But I think hourly comics are a great idea! They don't have to be fully-detailed, nor do they actually have to stick to real life [see Jeph's for a prime example]. They're also a pretty nifty excuse to just do some fun drawing.

Anyway, I'll probably draw one up when I'm not running on a grand total of six minutes' sleep. You should too!

In it, Jeph [of QC fame] takes an in-depth look at an article by Neil Swaab, who criticizes the web comic industry and its various business models. I really recommend you check it out!

Swaab recommends three new business models for web cartoonists to consider, and Jeph analyzes each model, and points out why they might not work as well as Swaab seems to think. It looks smoother overall. Just now though, I'm going to try to use a bit more freehand drawing in the comics. I don't want to rely on shortcuts and cheats fully, so I'm pushing myself to draw decently freehand in Photoshop.

I'll still use the straight-line shift trick for drawing flat-plane backgrounds, like interior rooms where floors and walls meet on straight lines. This mainly affects things like cars, or shelving units, or other elements.

Please excuse any and all scribbly curves and such in the next few comics.

Alex

My humanities class recently took a look at art, and as a related topic, objectivity and subjectivity. These words might seem pretty big to some people, so I'm going to explain them in simple terms.

Objectivity: to look upon a subject, likes and dislikes aside, and appreciate* certain aspects of that piece. Examples include but are not limited to: colours used, perspective, underlying themes, instruments used, sound, lyrical content, character portrayal, et cetera. Objectivity need not be limited to just the visual arts. As you can see in my examples, I listed aspects of music and stage arts as well.

*The word "appreciate" is not a synonym for "like" or "dislike". Appreciation is along the same lines of respect. Sure, you may not like Da Vinci's "Mona Lisa" painting, but looking at it, you can appreciate the work in terms of the quality and skill required for such a piece.

Subjectivity: to look upon a subject, with great consideration and involvement of one's own personal likes and dislikes. Essentially, when you view something subjectively, you are judging it as to whether you like it or not. It's very basic.

I have received comments and messages on some of my works, where people will simply look at the piece subjectively, and proceed to say, "I don't like it". As great as it is to see comments on my works, and that people are checking my works out, please don't leave simple comments like the one above. You may still say if you like it or not, but please try to specify what it is that you like // don't like. Constructive criticism is always appreciated.

Objective comments are quite welcome, as well.

On a closing note, does anyone know how to just get rid of the 'mood' option for journals?

I finally fixed the text problem with my Photoshop program, by re-installing the entire Creative Suite 3 onto my Mac. It took longer than expected, what with chasing down serial numbers and all, but it's finally working properly again. To celebrate, there should be a new comic coming along this week.

Update: To celebrate, there's a new character sketch in the gallery, and a new "character sketches" gallery too.

There's some humorous commentary below the comics, and in them as well. Look out for references, I like to do that sometimes.

I'm studying art there, so expect to see some new stuff every now and again. On top of this, I've upgraded to a Mac OS X operating system, and I bought Photoshop CS3.
Last Tuesday [03//20//07], my web comic "Boondock City" celebrated it's one-year anniversary. I'm impressed, when I first started drawing it I never figured it would go this long. So to everyone who's been there every step of the way, or even if you've just caught on now, a huge thanks to all of you.

Episode forty-nine will be launched later this week over at [link]

So, it's been a while since my last entry [08.27.06].

Between then and now, I disregarded Boondock City for schoolwork [I know; it was wrong of me to do that], but finally, since 01.08.07, I'm trying really hard to get back to a regular comic schedule. So far I've posted a comic, two Mondays in a row.

Not to say that's great, but in comparison to my previous posting schedule [a comic a month], it's a lot better. So hopefully I can keep Boondock City alive long enough for it's one year [03.20.07].

So yeah, check it at [link] newest episodes are at the top of the page. This week brought episode 46, the second part of a two-part episode.

Oh, and as if I haven't plugged it enough, I'm performing at the youth group's open mic this coming Thursday. Anyone within the remote area of Perth should definitely come out. It's at the Glad Tidings Pentacostal, on highway seven towards Carleton Place.

Hey, long time, no update.

As you may have guessed from the title, Boondock City comics is moving from my blog to it's own blog on MySpace. The new address is http://www.myspace.com/boondock_city [you can click on the link]. They'll be posted Tuesdays and Fridays in the blog. So, if you're ever on MySpace, and surfing around, feel free to check it out.

I'll be posting the older episodes [numbers one through thirty-eight] daily, which will buy me some time to work on new material, and draw the stuff.

Hey DAs, it's Al here.

So much has happened since my last DA blog. I'm running so many blogs right now [only two, but two is more than enough] that I can barely check this one.

So Boondock City is up and rolling. I'm updating every Tuesday and Friday now, instead of Wednesdays [see my last post]. I'm up to fourteen whole, six-panel episodes now, and by this Friday [May 19th, 2006], I'll have fifteen episodes.

I also now have a co-writer for when I get retarded. I'm glad to announce that Reston Weilde has been added to the BC employee roster [consisting of me and Reston]. Happy to work with him.

Anyways, that's all I can think of posting for now. Stay tuned, Friday's comic will be interesting to see.

Oh yeah, and here's the link to the Boondock City comic archive.

H'okay, so'h...

I haven't posted on here in a while.

For those that don't know, I'm posting my webcomics, titled "Boondock City", on my MySpace blog. C'mon in and check it! I'm into my third week of it, posting one episode per week (this adds up to 3 webcomics so far).

It's pretty simple, 6 panels of awesomeness, all telling part of a story as they're posted.

If you have a MySpace, feel free to add me as a friend. But, only add me if you're interested in talking (about anything really). I don't want you adding me because you want more friends. That's just silly.

Anyways, check my webcomics!

Live fast, die never.
