Wow.

I logged in to look for some art, and saw that my message box had exploded. Apparently one of my poems was chosen for a daily deviation on the 12th and I didn't know.

I'm so happy that so many people felt touched by the poem. I will try to read through the comments and respond to them, but if I miss anyone, thank you so much for taking the time to read the poem and I'm so sorry for the fact that so many of us have similar experiences with cancer and losing loved ones. It is a part of life, but no one should have to watch anyone suffer. I wish we could make that part of "life" go away.

Thanks for reading.

I rarely am ever on here, I know, but I wanted to share with those of you who I chat with from time to time a kinda cool thing I got asked to do! I got asked to take part in this by invitation by my professor, which is actually really flattering! And it looks good on the ol' curriculum vitae (resume)!

Here's the deal:

The project Image/ Identity will represent a cross-disciplinary collaborative effort of graduate students from both Visual Arts and English departments, producing an art exhibition in a campus gallery, a poetry reading session during the opening gallery reception, and a publication (exhibition catalogue) documenting the event.

Seven (7) pairs of current graduate students from both departments will explore and interpret the theme Image/Identity collaboratively in the forms of art and literature. The concept is to recognize individual differences in gender, race, and culture within our community and to display these diverse messages in a positive and creative public event.

The exhibition will take place at Exit Gallery within the Visual Arts complex from April 9-22 with an opening reception and poetry reading session for the artists and writers. Exhibition catalogues featuring paired-up visuals and writings will be produced and distributed at the opening reception during the poetry reading session. The invitation and press release for the event will be sent to campus community and newspapers.

Through art and literature, this creative public event will reflect diversity and show awareness of individual differences, as well as serve as a link to other parts of the campus community and the community-at-large. This collaborative participation between artists and writers also benefits both our Visual Arts and English graduate students professionally, as their works can be seen (as artists) and heard (as writers).

What’s coming out of this project

-An extremely rare and unique showcase features selected outstanding graduates in arts and literature.

-An exhibition with an art opening at West Gallery on campus.

-A poetry reading session during the opening reception for the public.

-A well-designed color catalogue/publication featuring art images and poems.

-Networking opportunities, professional practices, creative experiences, and public exposures.

Stolen from *TheObviousChild -- don't worry, most of my books are also silly things too, despite being an English teacher and Master's student!!

1. The first character I first fell in love with:
Wow, good question. I think that might be Sodapop from The Outsiders. And from the book, not the movie, though Rob Lowe was a little hotty back then. Either that or Gilbert from Anne of Green Gables, but I think I read that a year later.

2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now:
I think that might be Snape in the Harry Potter books. Everyone loves to loathe him of course... but my theory is he still isn't bad and that he HAD to do what he did, and is going to take the fall for something he didn't want to do, so now my heart goes out to him.

3. The character everyone else loves that I don't:
Romeo. He goes from being "in love" with Rosaline to being "in love" with Juliet, both about their looks and nothing else, and then whines and whines and whines about being exiled, never has the common sense to say "let's run away together," and then kills Paris just so he can go kill himself a moment later at Juliet's side... God, what's there to LIKE???

4. The character I love that everyone else hates:
Gah, my blind is blanking. Let's see...oh, Eponine, though granted that's more from the musical... or Benedick from Much Ado About Nothing

5. The character I used to love but don't any longer:
hmm. Winnie the Pooh? Ahh, I still love him... just not like I used to
; )

6. The character I would shag anytime:
Legolas, Benedick (note the name would mean "good dick" tee-hee), Sodapop

7. The character I'd want to be like:
Beatrice from Much Ado About Nothing

8. The character I'd slap:
Romeo and Juliet. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern (sycophantic jerks)

9. A pairing that I love:
Is this one I'd like to see, or one that happens? We'll go with one that happens, or three as it were: Love-- Beatrice and Benedick and Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet. Tonks and Lupin!!!

10. A pairing that I despise:
Ron and Hermione.... I just don't buy it....

Here's something new I am doing, but I used a LJ to do it -

[link]

Trying to write a poem a day, for how long I dunno.

Just started. But. most aren't great, I may cross post some but mostly getting sorta ho-hum over here. I'm not an artist for sure, and seems poetry is not so hip as the art here ; ) Instant gratification I guess - you can look at a picture and like it immediately, a poem takes time.

Anyway..... I'll pop in from time to time. Merry Christmas, Happy Hannukah, and Happy New Year plus anything else you all might care about!
