- I like the new survivors. At first I was worried that the attention of detail given to the original four would not have been given here, but thankfully I am dead wrong. Each character has their little quirks and such personality that it's hard not to like them. For example, Coach (the big guy) will read just about every sign he sees. Ellis is the new Francis, except he is kinda like nega-Francis (He likes stuff). Nick is the sarcastic bastard, which in itself isn't that original a concept, but he plays the part so fucking well. Rochelle isn't as dorky (and awesome) as Zoey, but she is probably just as lovable in her own fashion (she is wearing a depeche mode shirt).

- The weapons are considerably beefier, not just in function, but in feel. Every gun feels stronger, and in a lot of cases the guns are stronger.

- All of the weapons from L4D1 are back, alongside their newer counterparts. You can go from using the new metal shotgun, back to the old Remington one. Better yet, each have their own attributes. For example, the new shotgun has a tighter spread and is better for range, but the old one does so much more damage on bigger targets (like chargers). The Hunting rifle from l4d1 can now be used while moving go great effect. In l4d1 you could barely crotchwalk with it and expect any semblance of accuracy.

- Having stronger weapons doesn't necessarily make the game easier, because the infected are stronger. The uncommon commons such as the riot gear infected actually require special attention and in some cases a team effort to dispose of. You seriously cannot just shoot them to death, you have to flank them or spin them around somehow. It's fucking hilarious seeing all 4 teammates trying to get the fucker to turn around so you can end it, while his body flails against whatever wall he's getting slammed against, repeatedly.

- The new special infected make playing this a totally new experience. You can't corner camp through an expert campaign anymore. The spitter can down someone that doesn't move in moments (even on normal), but as long as you make an effort to move, it's not hard to take 0 damage. This is great. Leading into this topic...

- There is a melee timer on campaign now. No corner camping.

- Melee weapons feel so good. I'm not sure how practical they are though. I know that using the new adrenaline and then using a melee weapon is fucking awesome though.

- New Items: Adrenaline Shot (Speed boost, zombie attacks won't stun you) Defibrillator (revives dead players, yeah I'm serious), Boomer Bile (works similar to pipe bomb, as it will attract zombies where it's thrown, except, you can throw it on zombies causing whatever it's thrown on to get swarmed. Have fun using it on a witch.)

I'm going to assume that you're already familiar with this game and it's basic premise. If not, please see here.

You play as The Rookie for the majority of the game. During his adventure through the ruins of New Mombasa, Kenya. I don't think I've ever played a game set in Africa before, and I certainly haven't played one set in a futuristic Africa. The majority of the city is typical futuristic urban fare; tall skyscrapers, futuristic looking cars and panels. Withing the city there is a giant wildlife reservation, complete with safari trails and rest stops. The level design and art direction is all amazingly high quality. There is significant and interesting detail throughout the city, from the flashing panels displaying warnings and advertisements from the ruined cars and dead soldiers. It actually reminded me of playing Fallout 3, but in the Haloverse at times, due to the sense of being the only person left in a once populated but now destroyed environment. More so even, as I played most of Fallout 3 in sneak mode, trying not to get raped by deathclaws. Replace deathclaw with Brute and you have the ODST experience.

Not really, seeing as even though technically the Rookie and all of the other playable ODST's are human, they can take a lot of punishment. You honestly have very similar health to a Spartan, just now when you take damage, it becomes a lot harder to function as your screen with become more and more red. Lots of red. The health system is very much like Halo 1's. Where as, you have a shield that regenerates, but your health under that shield doesn't. In ODST, you can recover lost health using Opicans, which are just a fancy way of saying healthpack.

By the time you're done playing the pretty short campaign, you will have been pretty much everywhere over the city and the parts directly surrounding it as all of the ODST Squad (Rookie, Buck, Romeo, Dutch, Mickey). And I actually started to care about each character's fate nearing the end of the whole ordeal. When you first meet each of them, they are presented in a stupid, not well thought out way that tries to contrast THE WORLD ENDING HOLY SHIT with "lol this is a good time for slapstick". There is also a love story that plays out and actually leads up to a (SPOILERS) kiss around the end. It's weird because the halo series have been oddly lacking in real humanity, and this is the first time in a halo game where I actually cared about the characters.

Multiplayer.

ODST's campaign is fully playable with four people, but I haven't got around to playing it that much.

Most of my focus has been on the new multiplayer gametype: firefight. Firefight can be summed up as Gears Of War's Horde Mode meets L4D's survival mode plus Halo and minus pills with slightly different scary aliens that want to harm you and your body. It's considerably easier than Survival Mode, but that's not saying much (most survival mode games don't last more than 4 minutes before everyone is killed). This isn't to say it's not challenging, as it certainly gets very intense later on.

For the uninitiated, Horde, Survival, and Firefight are all endless wave gametypes. It's almost a throwback to a time when games didn't have any endings, and the only objective was to get a high score. Enemies will never stop coming, and you will only be permitted short breaks between waves. You will have to manage health and lives, but you will also have to deal with skulls that come into play at the start of every round. These skulls augment the game in different ways, such as making enemies more inclined to avoid danger or to cause all of the enemies to wildly throw grenades. The difficulty really picks up with skulls that augment your health come into play, such as the Black Eye skull, which will cause your shields not to regenerate normally; you can only get them back if you melee an enemy.

There are several different maps to play on, each very different from the next. Some are wide open and are very accessible to vehicles while some are very closed in and are filled with close quarters fighting.

With four people, it's just fun. Probably not as fun as L4D but I'm likely just biased and that's not a fair comparison at all. They are vastly different games. (Okay so Hunters from Halo are similar to Tanks from l4d, especially in survival/firefight, fuck you) Having four ODSTs fending off against hundreds of brutes and actually winning ( for a short time at least ) is extremely satisfying. Having team tactics actually result in a difficult wave ending sooner is a delicious feeling that rivals any similar co-op experience you can find online these days.

And the same DLC for $7 on the 360.

There was a lot of bitching over this, and for good reason. Why are the PC users getting off for free? Does Valve like them more? Does Valve kick puppies and steal candy from babies while playing ping pong with Nazis? Especially considering that the last L4D dlc was released for free for both consoles.

So Valve isn't to blame at all. Yup, they actually wanted the content to be free for both consoles, but Mircosoft had a problem being not evil for once. Steam was allowed to distribute the DLC for free on their own distribution system, but because they have to go through Xbox Live to deliver content to 360 users, Mircosoft gets to call the shots there.

Whatever. I knew there was little point in getting angry over this right from the start. I'm a whore and will buy it anyway. And enjoy it.

People that know me are often confused as why I play L4D on the 360 over the PC, and why I'm going to buy the sequel for the 360 again and not the PC. There are a couple reasons for this. The biggest is that I actually like playing with people in real life, on my couch or on theirs. The 360 version has splitscreen for two people, and it's pretty great with friends and family. It's a full fledged split screen too (you can take that second person online with you and all modes are available with splitscreen). Call of Duty, I'm looking at you. COD let you have splitscreen, but you were unable to use any kind of online play while in splitscreen. I will love Modern Warfare 2 if they include this.

I guess the other main reason is that there is a certain charm when playing a game originally intended for the PC on a console. I can't articulate it in a way that the majority of people could understand. It's generally excepted that a keyboard and mouse is better than a controller for first person shooters. I just kinda see that as a challenge.

Also I have a dedicated L4D bro on Xbox Live who is without a decent gaming computer right now, so he will get getting l4d2 on the 360. Bros gotta stick together.

SAN BRUNO (CBS / AP / BCN) ― A young man was shot and wounded at Skyline College in San Bruno and police indicated that the gunman remained on the loose.

I was in lockdown for awhile, and I took notes of what I heard. On the way out I got stopped by a guy from an SF newspaper and also by a local News Station for an interview. I met a local news star and she was short but adorable. They were impressed with the detail of my notes (I timestamped everything)

Last night my chest started to hurt. Right in the middle of my solar plexus (right where my heart is)
And it hurt whenever my heart beat.
I start to get a little freaked out when after an hour the pain doesn't subside. I try to stand up and almost pass out.
Okay in retrospect this could have been caused by my low blood sugar that night. I didn't eat dinner and I was drinking nothing but water.
by 4pm today the pain had not subsided.

Hospital time.

The hospital visit was alright. Our shitty AMERICAN hospital was trying to hide the urgent care center from us. In fact they didn't even want us to know it was open. A receptionist flat out lied to me about it being closed over the phone.

We get there a little late, and we are rushing around the hospital trying to find it. When we get to the elevator I collapse for a bit, as my mother is freaking out, still unable to find the urgent care center. It wasn't on any signage around the hospital. Nothing.

Eventually she found a little info pamphlet thing and it told her it was on the top floor, because it makes perfect sense for someone in need of urgent care to have to travel the maximum distance possible to get to any destination in the fucking hotel.

The results were inconclusive. Bloodwork and xrays normal. She just thinks it was my low blood sugar at the time coupled with ??? stress maybe?

I feel better right now. Thanks Kaiser Permanente, you guys fucking suck.

Well how did this come to pass?

Special interests groups (read:the fucking church) decided to suddenly use all of their white money and power to keep the gays from doing their thing, because obviously it was not just harming them, it was also harming America. They saw it as a blight on our morals and something that must be defeated so that future generations can grow up pure and free from the gay. All according to the Christian faith.

CAUSE WE ARE A CHRISTIAN NATION AMIRITE

I know that argument is pretty wet, but obviously it hasn't been discussed enough, because now half of california thinks that gay marriage is wrong and that it somehow negatively effects them and their families. This is probably due to the terribly disingenuous commercials put out by the Yes on 8 side depicting kindergarteners coming home and exclaiming how they learned about gay marriage. "WOULD YOU WANT YOUR CHILDREN TO BE EXPOSED TO THE GAY? STOP THIS AND THE GAYS NOW YES ON 8"

Except marriage isn't taught in public schools AT ALL.

PERIOD.

THIS CANNOT BE ARGUED.

So GG Christians. You take away a groups rights and get to feel better about yourself. Thank god we have you guys using all of that money and influence to work on the really important matters like if two people can get married or not, and not something useless like homelessness or corruption.

I had to restrain myself from just learning Japanese for a couple of reasons. Firstly, no one I know personally speaks it, I don't live in an area with a lot of Japanese speakers, and I don't think I'll be going back there for awhile.

German on the other hand, I could use. I know people to talk to. Cat-face. Besides, I have a good percentage of german in me, and I won't have to learn a new alphabet this way.

Languages I might want to eventually learn:
Mandarin
Russian
Japanese
French
Spanish**

This sudden interests in foreign language in me comes from my phobia of being a typical stupid mono-linguistic american. Americans on holiday in not America make huge asses of themselves without shame. I've experienced it first hand.

I should probably learn Russian soon though, seeing as we will soon be occupied by them.

I love it when days that you expect to be awful turn around to be the best fucking days ever. Yesterday was that. I took placement testing at the college, and was generally a little nervous. During the test I was hungry, and was trying hard not to pass out.
Alas, I scored the highest possible out of both tests. Positive Interjection!

I'm going to miss summer to a degree, but the knowledge that I won't have to deal with the specter of a recurring sense of pointlessness that occurs during free time is appealing. Even if I've become very good at dealing with it when it rears it's necessary head. Video games seem to pacify it pretty well too.

Here's what's going on:
Go here [link] ... and click on the HR6304EH version of the bill.
Click on Title VII sections 106 and 107. Review the requested changes to the 1978 FISA bill.
Now open a new tab and go here [link]
Use your ctrl+F and search for 1823 and 1824 sections (the parts being amended).
Review the requested changes.

For example:

(e)(1)(A) Notwithstanding any other provision of this subchapter, whenever the Attorney General reasonably makes the determination specified in subparagraph (B), the Attorney General may authorize the execution of an emergency physical search if -
(i) a judge having jurisdiction under section 1803 of this
title is informed by the Attorney General or the Attorney
General's designee at the time of such authorization that the
decision has been made to execute an emergency search, and
(ii) an application in accordance with this subchapter is made
to that judge as soon as practicable but not more than 72 hours
after the Attorney General authorizes such search.

becomes:

(e)(1) Notwithstanding any other provision of this title, the Attorney General may authorize the emergency employment of a physical search if the Attorney General--
(A) reasonably determines that an emergency situation exists with respect to the employment of a physical search to obtain foreign intelligence information before an order authorizing such physical search can with due diligence be obtained;
(B) reasonably determines that the factual basis for issuance of an order under this title to approve such physical search exists;
(C) informs, either personally or through a designee, a judge of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court at the time of such authorization that the decision has been made to employ an emergency physical search; and
(D) makes an application in accordance with this title to a judge of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court as soon as practicable, but not more than 7 days after the Attorney General authorizes such physical search.

So do you see what I see? Yes, the part about judges being involved has moved down from I and II to parts C and D. Should this bill pass, the AG will not have to notify a judge right away about the employment of physical searches; in fact, the AG can take up to seven days to do so, after the fact.

Bit by bit, there it all goes, down the toilet hole. America, fuck yeah!
