Grab the book nearest to you, turn to page 18, and find line 4.
-Um, no line 4. Only one word on the page: "Example" (and a picture of frog w/ sunglasses). From 'Maya, Character Animation'

2. Stretch your left arm out as far as you can. What are you touching?
-The wall.

3. What is the last thing you watched on TV?
-Lost, season 4, episode 9ish. On Hulu.

4. Without looking, guess what time it is?
-10:04

5. Now look at the clock. What is the actual time?
-09:56

6. With the exception of the computer, what can you hear?
-Roommate playing Megaman on his DS.

7. When did you last step outside? What were you doing?
-Yesterday afternoon, until mid-evening. Ran errands, starbucks, went to Japanese Language Meet-up and BS'd instead of studying.

8. Before you started this survey, what did you look at?
-Hulu, Hotmail.

9. What are you wearing?
-Invader Zim t-shirt "I'm Advanced". Exercise shorts.

11. When did you last laugh?
-Yesterday, while watching Ice Age 3. But that was more of a snicker.

12. What is on the walls of the room you are in?
-Calander, some framed photo's (One of Osaka's downtown), framed Japanese scroll, a framed signed poster from Robotech: Shadow Chronicals, a framed cerificate from passing the JLPT lvl 4.

13. Seen anything weird lately?
-Lately!? Hmn... not too recently. A couple weeks ago I saw a naked man walking down the street about to get arrested by a cop. Compared to that things have been tame lately.

14. What do you think of this quiz?
-Meh, whatever. These things take forever...

15. What is the last film you saw?
-At home: Ice Age 3. In the Theater: Zombieland.

16. If you became a multi-millionaire overnight, what would you buy?
-First a ticket to Japan for me and a few friends and family. Chill for a while. Travel to some other places in the world, Hawaii, Korea, Australia, Italy. Then I'd buy a studio to produce animation.

17. Tell me something about you that I don't know:
-I'm an entertainment addict. Kills my productivity.

18. If you could change one thing about the world, regardless of guilt or politics, what would you do?
-Hmn... aside from stuff like, ending wars and human indignities and suffering, or destroying self-serving party-bickering politics!?
Then I think world needs to laugh more, lighten-up. Find a way to get people, leaders around the world to find mutual ground to laugh about. Global party baby!

19. Do you like to dance?
-If it's to be silly and have fun, yes. Not if people are gonna be uptight and serious about it.

20. George Bush:
-Is an idiot (for doing the whole 'bailout' thing, especially...)

21. Imagine your first child is a girl, what do you call her?:
-Not mine! (Just kidding): Kassia (or Pricilla)

22. What do you want God to say to you when you reach the pearly gates?
-Hey man, come here you have to see this...

I tag...Anyone who want to do it. Stating the difference in education between the "white" kids vs minority kids is that the minorities grow up with "street smarts".

He gives an example, "A test asks, 'There are three birds on a branch, you throw a rock and knock one off. How many birds are left?'. The white kid answers 'two'. But the black kid answers 'zero'. When the teacher asks him why he answered 'zero', the kid replys, 'Because if you hit one bird the other two will fly away, so none will be left!'"

The audience responds, "Oooooooooooooooh!"

I'm sitting there thinking, "Ah, no wonder. Right from the start they set it up as an alternate time-line. So yeah, there is plenty of things you can nit-pick... but it's a different universe! They also put plenty of things in for fans of the show to point out and laugh at, sometimes because of the stark contrast, and sometimes because of the ironic similarity.
Everyone seems to love 'Batman: The Dark Knight', so I know I'm in the vast minority on this one. But my opinion of it is simply, "It's too long!"

If the movie was a standard hour and a half, I truly, honestly would have enjoyed it. I don't have any problem with sitting through a movie 2-3 hours, as long as it keeps me entertained and interested. The problem here was that after that first hour and a half it started getting repetitive, then it started to bore me, and then it started me thinking. Thinking, or rather analyzing. Analyzing(/nit-picking): peoples performances, glaring flaws in the script, and all the unnecessary nuances that made the movie just that much longer.

I don't really want to list them all and spoil anything for people who haven't seen it. But really, reviews like "Greatest Superhero movie of all time"? Come on!? 'Batman Begins' I thought was a much better, well-rounded movie. Also I enjoyed both 'Ironman' and 'Hellboy II' (two thumbs up) much more then 'The Dark Knight.'

Also, I wasn't all that impressed by Ledger's Joker. Yeah, yeah, I know. I'll say he gave a good performance, but I'm just not impressed by another Hannibal Lecter , get inside your head, pulling people's strings, making a comment about human nature type of villain. That's too logical for the Joker. The Jokers crazy! He has "a kind of logic that only makes sense to himself." Jack Nicholson (while still not ideal) was much closer to my idea of the Joker.

To try to sum this up quickly, as I've got ton's of stuff to do- I went to Anime Expo this year. Over all review: Great.

I spent maybe 15 minutes in the registration line. That fact alone made it 1,000,000,000x better then last year... (I'm still pissed about that one...)There were information booths, and people knew where things were, and how to get there! They actually had answers to questions! Go figure!? Lines for rooms they rerouted into empty rooms so they wouldn't congest hallways. And I saw very few 'technical difficulties'. It was organized, and well planned out. Frankly, it was like nothing I've ever seen at Anime Expo before!

Oh, I was gonna make this short wasn't I!?

The dealers room was a good size this year, and artists alley had a huge room too. All the tables took up less then 1/3 of the place. Seemed like they finally got some of the respect they deserve! (I felt sorry for the poor suckers that got crammed into that little hallway in Long Beach, that was F'd up!)

I somehow missed the DA Booth, but I did see and a couple others... (who I know I'm watching but can't find w/ the new format...)

Plus I got signatures from, one of my favorite artists, Takehito Harada, and Akemi Takada, whose artbooks I've had for about 15 years.

I'll post up pictures later.

PS- Whoa, funky new DA version... gonna take some getting used to.

This was my original response to and e-mail that prompted this poll:

"Don't you think that's pretty f'd up!?
I agree he should be punished, but I think the punishment should fit the crime. It's a financial crime, the punishment should be financial. Charge him double-triple what he owed, that would hurt financially! There is absolutely no reason to lock him up. He's not a danger to society. He didn't rob anybody, and leave them poor and helpless and out in the street. I couldn't say the same about the IRS. He just denied the government of some of their bloated expenditures and war monies.
Taxes aren't even constitutional in the first place. It's ridiculous that they'd deny him 3 years of his life for that. Maybe a month to drive a point, but 3 years? It even says the judge wanted to make an example out of him by giving him the maximum sentence. There should be some kind of public outcry for that."

The old testament in the Bible says that a man who steals must pay back 7x what he has stolen. I think that is still a pretty good rule. Taking his house and his cars, would send a pretty good message.

I don't see a reason to throw another person in our overcrowded jails, when they aren't out to physically harm people. Meanwhile they're reducing sentences for murderers, rapists and child molesters to get them back on the street faster!?

And my opinion on the IRS and taxes.... oh, I don't even want to get started on that one...

Anyways, celebrity or not, I think it's pretty unjust.

Well, I just saw Cloverfeild. One of the people I went to see it with said... "I don't know (if I want to see it), it looks like Godzilla meets Blair Witch." To which I replied, "Really? That sounds good to me!?" And he was dead on. That is the perfect was to describe this movie.

If you read how I felt about "I Am Legend" then you can attribute most of that to this film as well. However, before this movie one of the attendants came out and warned everyone that the movie was blurry and shaky. They even passed out "barf bags", and asked us to not to make them have to clean up after us.

The whole film is presented as if it was all filmed from a single tape from a personal camcorder. (I was hoping the preview was just small segment that was filmed that way, but the whole movie is like that.) And at the beginning of the film the cameraman is presented as a noob, so in the beginning it really awfully filmed. (No he couldn't have been a cameraman who grabbed his camcorder while running away from a disaster... that would have been to easy...) It gets a little better later on, but not by much. I compensated by closing my eyes and just listening to the movie for a good 1/4 of the film, which helped. I did get a tad nauseous but I didn't get a splitting headache like I did in 'I Am Legend'.

As for the film. I liked the concept. The story is interesting enough but played out pretty predictably. The characters were fairly likable, but could have used some more scenes for development before the chaos started. Nothing really 'wow'd" me about the film but I'll give them credit for trying something a little different. Not a bad film, but still the way it was filmed will ensure I'll never see it again.

Last night I went to see a midnight showing of I Am Legend. It had a decent story, Will Smith did a good job, and the scenes of a desolate New York w/ three years of overgrowth were pretty cool. The creatures and animals were a little overly CG but that's still forgivable, and the ending was a little bit unsatisfying, seemed a little too generic. If it were only that, I'd still say the movie is good, even recommend it. BUT I HATED THIS MOVIE!!!

Why?? Because I was watching half the freak'n movie with a pounding headache, due to the crappy ass cinematography. I don't know if it's the directors fault, or the cinematographers fault, but whoever the people are who are responsible for giving the cameras to recovering crack addicts w/ the shakes to film the f@#$'n movie need to be lined up, bitch slapped, and tossed to the creatures from this film. Then grab the people who are responsible for filming "The Borne Supremacy" & "Ultimatum" and throw them in for the same thing. (In the Borne Ultimatum I was yelling at the screen, "Why is the camera shaking? [They're just sitting there having coffee]A-holes!!")

Final opinion skip it, not worth the headache.

I just discovered "Street View" ([link]) on "Google/Maps". Woah!

I was just looking for a map of a place, "Peet's Coffee & Tea, 124 N. Larchmont, Los Angeles, CA 90004", popped it in google, clicked maps. Not only did it find the place, but a picture of the place pops up in the word bubble. Then my curiosity was piqued by the "street view" button, click, I put the little man on my destined location and (after a little tweaking to get to the right spot) "bam"- I get a view as if I'm there on the street! A full 360% rotation!!! I can even see what side of the street the place is on! That gave me one of those "Wow, this is the future!" moments.

Granted the program is only active in so many major cities at the moment and a lot of the pictures they've doubled for multiple addresses, but still... The thought of what this will be in 10-20 years. With everyone carrying multi-media phones and i-pods these days, you can easily image that soon enough they'll have full functional video recorders on them. All just hanging from people's ears, keeping track of where you are like a GPS or Helio. Then those images transmitted to the internet and plugged into a program like "Street View", where you have a real-time view of anywhere at anytime! Kinda cool, kinda scary...

The Cavemen from the Geico commercials are getting their own TV show? It's true: [link] Sure they've had some moderately funny commercials (the best one is the one at the airport lobby [link] , damn catchy song too), and they've all been over-played to death, but can they really stretch that into a whole TV show? Only time will tell.

The agency(or agencies) that do the Geico commercials really deserve some awards though (if they haven't already.) They've come up w/ some really great and memorable commercials. (They've spawned a lot of parodies as well.) Some of my favorite commercials:

"Do do do do do do do do FLASH!! OooWAhhhhhh!!!" ~ I've had this song stuck in my head for over a week now.

Anyways, someone down at the Sci-fi network for some brilliant reason decided that they needed to make another Stargate SG1, but without all of that confusing military lingo, hardware, that snazzy military installation, that pesky gate and the seasoned script writers and actors, then decided to call it "Flash Gordon". Hmn.... So they've decided no only to piss off any fans of the Flash Gordon franchise, but bore everyone else with another version of Stargate-lite.

I know Gene Roddenberry started the whole "Class M" planets and teleporter thing to save money on the budget, so that they didn't have to make shuttles and land on non-Mars/Earth type exotic planets (which leads to Stargates/wormholes/ dimensional portals, etc.) but come on, hasn't that already been done to death!? Didn't BattleStar Galactica teach these guys anything!?

Flash Gordon = Rocketships, ray guns, jetpacks, birdmen, and "Ming the Merciless" (an alien Fu Manchu). The TV show had none of that, and Ming in this is normal looking militaristic white guy... So yes, major disappointment. But coming from the network that gave us Mansquito and Ice spiders , I wasn't expecting much.

On the plus side, a friend lent me the new DVD release of the 1980's Flash Gordon. I first saw this when I was maybe 8 years old, and after 25 years, it still holds up. Sure it's as campy as all get out, but it's still incredibly entertaining. I give it a thumbs up!

Okay, the past couple of weeks I've seen a crap-load of movies at the theater. (1408, Transformers, Die Hard 4, Ratatouille, Harry Potter 5, and Teeth.) Usually, I get there a little before the movie to get some good seats, and wait for the movie to start. Of course you expect to sit through 5-10 minutes of previews first, most of which you've already seen on TV. But I'm okay with that. Sometimes the previews are better then the movie you're about to watch anyways.

But now I've noticed a disturbing trend has started. No, 'trend' isn't the word I'm looking for... more like 'scam' or 'ass-rape'. Now, before the obligatory 10 minutes of previews, they make you sit through 10-15 minutes of commercials!!! (Same ones they're showing on TV). WTF? So now my movie that would have been 2 hours long is now 2hrs and 25minutes long. Okay, fine, but then why the hell aren't my tickets any cheaper? They're getting paid to play these annoying commercials. People are still going to movies in record numbers. People are still buying their incredibly overpriced 'refreshments'. Every things digital now, so they don't have to
ship those enormous film reels around anymore. There are automatic ticket machines in front of the building, and less employees there to sell tickets (and run the theater). So why the hell am I still paying more then freak'n ever, so see a #%@&'n
movie!?!? Bastards!!

As for the movies:
1408: Pretty decent for a horror flick.
Transformers: Much better then I expected.
Die Hard 4: Pretty good, goes over-the-top-corny too much.
Harry Potter 5: Good, not as exciting/action-packed as the last one.
Teeth: Heh. I saw this one for free. This was a B-movie to be sure.
Ratatouille: Very Good. Amazing animation, but unfortuantely the trailers (which I tried to aviod) pretty much spoiled the entire movie.

The one I enjoyed the most, out of all those, unfortunately I'd have to say was Transformers. The plot was pretty weak, there were lots of corny parts that could have been left out, several plot holes, and undeveloped characters. But then again it's based on Transformers! Let's call it what it is, a "Special Effects" movie. And for what it is, it was pretty cool!

"Surf's Up" [link] is coming out tomorrow. But why is is called "Surf's Up" when they are calling it "Zurfing" in the previews??? And the tag-ling "a true story", not "based on a true story" (w/ a whole freak'n lot of liberties taken), but "a TRUE story". Yeah, I don't think so. Reguardless, I'm actually looking forward to seeing this one.

I got to meet one of the people who worked on this film, "Visual Development/Designer" I believe, Richard Chavez. (His portfolio would blow you away. Visual Development/Backgrounds from Brother Bear, Sinbad, Spirit the Stallion, that really put what ended up on the screen to shame. Looking at his portfollio is like walking into the Louvre. It either inspires you, or makes you want to break all your pencils and give up right there....) Anyways, he said that when they were in pre-production on this film the only thing they knew about w/ Penguins in production was the Madagascar Penguins, and they had no idea they'd be such a hit. And then "Came March of the Penguins" and "HappyFeet", and it was too late to stop production then. So Sony pictures just isn't jumping on the Penguin-train to make a quick buck.

Surf's Up actually looks cool, the character designs are fresh and have a lot of personallity, and the characters are easily distingushable, with a lot of nice design elements. (Unlike that other penguin movie where they all looked stiff and rotoscoped, and were hard to even tell apart.) And the previews even look clever and funny. So I'm definately going to go try and see it this weekend!

And what says "Christmas" like a classic Christmas cartoon?
[Edit:]
Also, in the vein of the 'reason for the season' (no not winter solstace), here is a neat little site (kind fun navigation menu) that is putting out a new animated show that actually has some style. There is a 3 min. preview of the story of first Christmas: [link]

Actually the new Spiderman trailer is enough! Woot!
And yeah, the Transformers movie is probally gonna suck. Especially seeing as how gaurded they are about the trailers. If the only high point of the movie is seeing what these robots look like, digitally generated into a realistic setting, then that ain't enough to carry a 1hr 30minute movie, and we all know Michael Bay's track record for quality characters.

Ok, so the last story reminds of another that happned long ago (...in a galaxy far, far away):

One bright, clear, sunny day my girlfriend (at the time) was driving her little red Nissan truck down the highway, with me sitting in the passenger seat. Things are as ho-hum and normal as could be. But then suddenly she gets wide eyed and starts going "Ah, ah, ah...", as if she witnessing something unspeakable. Does she see a traffic accident up ahead? Is there an ambulance coming? I look around wondering whats going on. She veers across 4 lanes of traffic to pull onto the shoulder (ok, the lanes were empty, but still...). She quickly comes to stop, unbuckles her seat belt and crawls over ME, opens up the passenger side door and jumps out onto the side of the road and runs out onto the grassy noll. Is she gonna throw up? Was she feeling sick? What's going on? I look at her with a puzzled expression. She jumps up and down, pointing at the truck with a shaky hand, and exclaims "There's a SPIDER!!!"

"This for a spider!?" I'm thinking, and I look around her side of the cab for a minute, but don't see anything. "Where?" I ask.
"On the windshield!" She replies, pointing her finger again. So I look at the windshiled and I see a tiny orange dot moving. And sure enough, it's a spider. A spider that could make a comfortable home for his family on the top of a needle head, but a spider none the less.

I look back and her and say, "You mean this little orange one?" pointing at the orange speck.

"Yes, it's huge! Kill it!" She commands.

"Oh, you've got to be kidding me..." I say, as I bring pointy fingered doom down upon the helpless orange dot.

This really isn't an update, but something happened at work I thought I'd share. I was talking to a cutsomer today, who was a fairly stout, well bilt, mexican male in his late 20's/ early 30's, who was wearing works clothes, and a plain white t-shirt. I noticed a small black ant crawing up his shirt towards his neck and stopped in mid converstion to point it out saying, "You've got an ant on you."
Now you'd expected him to casually look down and brush it off, or pick it, right!? However this gentelman clenced his teeth, tilted his head back and tensed up his whole body, as he stared towards the ceiling saying, "Get it! Get it!" Now this is just a single tinny little black ant, that I probally wouldn't have even noticed if he wasn't wearing a completely white shirt. If this was a bee, or a spider, or even a cochroach I could understand this kind of reaction, but aside from the creepy feeling of somethng moving on your skin a little ant isn't going to do you any harm. So I stared an him for a couple seconds with a dumbfounded 'are you serious look' (which he couldn't see cause he was looking up at his eyebrows), and then extend my finger to poke the little guy, and flick him off onto the floor. Then I proceeded with my converstion where I left off, giving it no further thought. But on my way home I thought about it and it made me laugh. So I thought I'd share it.

I finally got around to putting up my pictures from the San Diego Comic-con. You can read about it on the Poisonwind forum, hosted by Fudi.

Whew, just finished cleaning out all my 'Deviant-art Watch' pics... big task! (...and there's tons of other artists I didn't put on watch but just book-marked to come back to look at later... TONS!) I'm amazed that there are so many awsome artists on here. I've spent so many hours on DA just going through and admiring other people's galleries.

I feel both honored and a little humbled to be posting amongst all of them. It makes me feel like I really need to buckle down and bring my artwork up to a higher level. That's why I won't be posting for a while!...!?! Well, I'll be moving to a different area, and looking into things to help me progress as an artist. So this will all take a lot of time, before I'm able to get get back into the flow of being able to put things back up online again. So till then Ja Matta, ne. ~KReeP
