Being incredibly tired and having had only two cups of coffee and a slice of cake for dinner can't be helping but I've apparently been switched onto the night shift at work and so I'm trying to acclimate myself to a different sleep schedule and that's messing with all my other routines... like what time I'm actually hungry enough to keep food in my stomach.
I've been staying awake by painting warhammer minis but I only have one light in my room and it's all the way over on my dresser. I'm so used to painting during the day with extra sunlight coming in through my window, it didn't occur to me that trying to paint by one crappy light with my eyeball half a centimetre from the mini might give me a headache.
I'm going to buy myself a little desk lamp tomorrow. That should solve the problem, I think. For now, I'm going to settle for a can of spaghetti-o's and some ibuprofen.

I have some more rattie sketches in my sketchbook that I might think about getting scanned when my head stops exploding. But right now I'm too tired and cranky to bother, so g'night.

I'm going to aim for at least two ten-minute drawings a day for the whole month. Considering I usually submit maybe one or two pieces every month or so, this'll be a surprising jump in activity for me. I don't know if I can keep up the creative bit but I'm going to try.

Mostly, I want to because I have so many dragons but not many rats, so I'm going to see if I can get some good practice at rats, especially my chars for Fancy That. ^_^ Should be entertaining.

I have a tripod already ^_^ just got it today. The camera store was having a going out of business sale so I picked up a small one for all of six whole dollars (total score). No lightboxes left, though *is a sad panda.* There's a hole-in-the-wall photography place I'm going to check out before I give up all hope and just make one, though. So fear not! The search goes on!

I've been getting a lot of sculpture stuff done. I won't be putting any of them up for sale online until I have a halfway decent setup (i.e. that lightbox and such I was talking about two seconds ago). I'm going to be seriously in the hole for a while since I've been spending so much time and money on supplies and still don't have everything I need. I'm determined to get this off the ground, though.

I'm going to be doing a LOT of writing for a while so the sketch type art is going to be pretty sparse. I'm not even entertaining the notion of commissions right now so don't ask. Sorry.

02. What made you choose this name?
I got stuck with the nickname "rat" in highschool and I'm really into mythology (especially the critters) so I added 'myth' the front and ta-da!

03. Do you use PC or Mac?
Hi, I'm a PC and I wish I was a Mac.

04. What programs do you use most often?
Photoshop CS and Open Office

05. Do you use mouse, or tablet?
Mouse sometimes, but mostly I use these archaic devices known as "pencils."

06. What color or color combinations do you find yourself using most often?
Mostly earthy tones with some blue and gold (I love blue and gold ^_^)

07. What part of a picture do you put most effort into?
The main subject (because I suck donkey balls at backgrounds)

08. How long does it take you do draw a picture?
Depends. Sometimes it takes me ten minutes sometimes it takes me ten months. I'm easily distracted by shiny things so I lose track of what I'm working on occasionally.

09. Do you keep your rough drafts?
Sometimes, not usually.

10. What font do you use most often?
Times New Roman or Courier New. Sometimes I'll use something like Diamond Gothic for something fancy.

11. When you scan your image, what DPI do you use?
300dpi.

12. Do you do anything else when you're drawing?
Mutter to myself about everything I'm screwing up, or just curse like a sailor when I mess up if I'm really focused on it.

13. Approximately how many pictures do you draw in a month?
Depends on how much energy I have. I don't do nearly as much as I did in high school, though and that makes me a sad panda.

14. What kind of paper do you draw your pictures on?
Normal printer paper or (if I can dig it out of the abyss of my room) one of my sketchbooks.

15. What kind of paper do you use for rough sketches and drafts?
Whatever is laying around, usually notebook paper. Once I used a piece of an old receipt.

Inking? What's that?

Not yet. Working on it.

It's interesting to note that this election makes history in more than one way. Obviously, this is our first African American president (WOOT!). But this is also the first time we've changed parties during a major war (iirc).
Hopefully this leads to the end of that war. We need to whip out some good old fashioned diplomacy and get our boys back home to their kids (who they haven't even met yet in far too many cases).

I paint Warhammer figures! Even character figures for D&D or the like.

Nevermind that I have to take a 3.5 hour bus ride to get down here (and am pretty much stranded here for the weekend), it's the best place around to find a decent number of clients.

For anyone interested, my general price is $5 per hour, per figure. It averages about $15/figure for a good paint job. I do bulk pricing for large orders. Just email me with specs (number of figures, assembled/not assembled, desired color scheme, etc.) or come down to the store and I can give you an estimate in price and time to completion.

This is too much fun though... I'm having an awesome time out here despite the lack of decent sleep.

Helping out a friend with a student film project. Still working on writing and drawing projects, and now...
Seriously getting into painting W40K figures for people. It means a three hour bus ride every week but it also means about $200 a month extra in my pocket... so, yeah. Worth it!

As soon as my camera stops being such a pain, I should have some photos of the figures I've already painted. The guys at Gamer's Inn seem to think I'm good enough to justify charging $10 a pop to paint these things for people, so I'm going to give it a shot.

So I hop on DA and go "OMGWTFBBQ!" cuz version six came out and no one warned me! (It was probably all over the place but I've got eyeballs like a fruit bat).
Anyway, I like it. I like the new message system particularly. Being able to see thumbnails of things lets me get through my messages a little faster and not having to check-mark every single one before deleting it (and having it stay gone) makes my life SO much easier. I can just go *clicky* and it magically disappears
Yeah, that is so incredibly handy when you're like me and you watch 40 bazillion people (seriously, I'm watching almost 300 people now). All that extra clicking was just aggravating my carpal tunnel

Anyway, I'm finally getting off my ass in the drawing department of things again (EEP! Almost a year with no real drawing!) so there are a couple of new things up.
Still working on writing projects and coming across new ones. I keep having to make new chars for DnD and I keep writing up little background bits for them (Dammit guys, quite making new games! ).

Anyway, I'm doing a small, highly focused, gallery clean-up. I'm moving all my old vampire stories to my scraps because those story lines aren't relevant anymore.
Alice wrote a modern-day story with our chars and we decided to run with it as a new version of the RP. I had to update my boys to fit the new setting and, honestly, I like them much better now. They're much more solid characters now, so I'ma keep 'em that way.
So the old stories are going to be hidden away at the bottom of a drawer to make way for new stuff ^_^

I'm also going to give a shot at organizing my gallery. I think I've almost got this collections thing down o.O

And I'm FINALLY almost finished with the final chapter of my Nightdragon's Light series. I know I've made you guys wait a ridiculously long time for it and I should, honestly, be falling on my sword in atonement, lol. But it should be here within the next month or so. I promise, honest I do.


In other news....
I'm going to take a shot at running a D&D campaign. I'm good with stories and ideas, I just suck at the mechanics so I've got one of the guys from the game kinda co-DMing with me.
I'm basically going to run one session and if I don't totally bomb it, I'm going to have my campaign as a back-up for the group's main campaign (Our DM is on call a lot for his job and we're getting sick of all this PVP shite, lol).

One of the big advantages to this is that I'm going to have A LOT more ideas and thus, MOAR ART!! "and there was much rejoicing *unenthusiastic cheer*"

Long story:
I got dropped from my class automatically when the deadline to pay came up and my grant paperwork hadn't gone through yet. So I had to refile for my grant after resigning up for the class and the paperwork didn't make the deadline for aid requests.

Short:
So now I get to wait until next year to take the damned class
Kinda frustrated, yeah, just a little.

So I say to hell with filing for grants, I'm just going to crank out some tattoo designs and get some cold cash to pay for the classes when the summer semester comes around again.
In the meantime I'm still working on my book, so one way or the other I'm going to be rich and famous some day hopefully soon


In Other News:
The DnD game is... kinda meh at the moment. We've been playing a game for the last couple of weeks which is like the bastard child of 3.5 and Miniatures. All PVP, DnD Survivor, basically. It was cool for the first couple of rounds... now it's gotten slightly annoying, mostly because apparently my previous DMs have misinformed me on like... half the rolls involved in the game. So I get to spend the week with my nose buried in my Core Rules and probably redoing a couple of my character sheets.
Yeah, annoying. I've had a seriously annoying week.

But yes, I do have a pretty spiffy webcam now and I'm writing down some of my better points of argument in a fashion that's somewhat amusing.
What with me being an honest working stiff in a neighborhood full of ignorant, spoiled, adult preppies, I doubt I'll run out of things to b*** about any time soon. Thus, there will be much hilarity to be had by all ^_^

Anyway....
I've overworked my shoulder again so I'm going to have to take a break from the writing and the photoshop colouring for a bit.
It's my right shoulder though, so thank gods I'm left handed and can still draw without having to take an epsom-salt soak, lol.

I've got more writing and some more sketches to work on, but I figure this big upload should hold you guys over for a little bit.


I've been playing D&D every week with an awesome group so I'm getting a lot of good ideas. Not to mention, apparently I'm decent at painting character figures and the guys see fit to give me a few bucks for a good paint job. So I should have a little spending money by the time we head out to the Ren Fair this year

All in all, I'm in a damn good mood (which is being fueled by smirnoff and chocolate right now) and it looks like things'll be going fairly smooth for a little while so art uploads should be a bit more frequent.

Poor Icarus has officially bitten the dust.

HOWEVER!
I have THE most AWESOME friend EVAR! He managed to scrounge me up a new system as an early x-mas present. I can scavenge the salvageable bits from Icarus and put it into the as-yet-nameless new system.
My main HD is unfortunately fried and I'm probably going to have to take it in somewhere to get the data back. The 80 gig drive with all my movies and music still works though! *SQUEE*

Now I just have to get Celti in here to handle the software side of things and I'll be up and running on my own system again!

I'll still be working on those writing projects until I can get my new system going decently.

I've got most of my info for the full ref sheets for my dragons. I just have to get it down on paper and figure out how to organize it best.

Speaking of writing and putting down information about my worlds. I have a whole pantheon of gods as well as a handful of demi-gods and historical heroes who have yet to be thoroughly embarrassed.

Icarus has spazzed on me (OS go *pfft*). So I'm going to be stuck using my mom's computer (which is still recovering from the recent reformatting) until I can get Icarus back online... which might be a while since I can't find my windows disc and Celti's is busted.

Art updates are going to be sporadic. Photography is going to be pretty much nil.

I do have some writing projects on my thumb drive that I'm intending to finish and put up in the meantime (Yes, Goldblaze... I mean chapter four just keep yer scales on, lol).

In other news...
It has now occurred to me why the free trial for WoW is 10 days (instead of the usual 7 most games/stores/services will give you)... it takes you three days to download the game and the patches. *facepalm* So I've gotten about two hours of total gameplay so far. Not enough to really judge if I want to spend money I don't have on a game I don't really need and can't afford the monthly fees for anyway.

I ran into an old friend from my swordsmanship classes from ages and ages ago. He's in about the same boat as me... single, broke, and lacking any social life beyond gaming.

I, however, shall not be broke for long. I'm going to start selling some of my tattoo designs as soon as I can make it down to Kinkos.
Being single and having no social life... well that's going to take me a little longer.

So, Icarus is up and running fully now. Only a few things left to transfer and a reliable net connection.
Got my tablet hooked up, got my games working, got my music playing, got my shit together for once. ^_^

The book is going great, I've got the outline finally down entirely, I'm starting to work out some of the finer kinks now and starting to write the first couple chapters.

I've got a crapload of movies to watch from work (celti, we must hang out and watch movies). So I'ma go do that now.

I have my own computer! Celti just got it up and running for me ( THANKIES SO MUCH!! LUFFS!). It's an old zombie of a machine, but it runs what I need it too, I can upgrade it later ^^

The modem will only connect out in the living room (which I'm currently ((very temporarily)) sitting in), so my connection is going to be extremely spotty until I can get an ethernet cable long enough to reach to my room ^^

I've got my tablet hooked up, I can get my scanner hooked up tomorrow... *sigh* I need speakers, but those are pretty cheap. I still need to transfer all my stuff from the old HD...

Yeah, I suppose it's actually the Christmas season now. It's kinda hard to tell when it really starts since they've had this stuff sitting out on the selling floor for the last three months. But you know it's REALLY December when you have to listen to Rosie O'Donnell and Elmo sing "Do You See What I See?" four thousand times a day.
I thought we had laws against cruel and unusual punishment in this country!
On the upside, I convinced my store manager to play my Manheim Steamroller Christmas CD too. Couldn't sell her on TSO unfortunately. Still don't know why.

Now, moving on to how it's not PC to say "Merry Christmas."
How the f*** can a store tell its employees that they aren't allowed to say "Merry Christmas" (for fear of offending someone) when ALL of the music they play not only has "Merry Christmas" in it, but every other verse has "Jesus Christ" in some form or another?

Now I'm not Christian in any form, I'm a tree-hugging dirt-worshipper, and I don't find "Merry Christmas" offensive in any sense. I mean for the Gods' sakes it's people telling me to feel good and enjoy the holiday! And I'm not offended by "Jesus Christ" in any form. I've read the Bible and truly the guy had some really great ideas about being a kind, helpful, honest person.
Well-wishes and an ideal of kindness, acceptance, and joy.
How can that piss anyone off?!

If I, a good ol' fashoined heathen, am not offended by the endless repetition of "Merry Christmas" and "Jesus Christ" how can other people be mad about it? Especially when a good many of the religions that are not Christian teach acceptance and celebration of diversity (or at least tolerance of it)?
We can't please everybody. I'm perfectly happy singing "Silent Night" right along with everyone else (it is a really pretty song ^^). So those of you who think the world should change 2000+ years of various traditions just to tickle your fancy can piss off.

I'm not a big fan of holidays, can ya tell? I like Yule because I like winter. And I like my birthday cuz I get presents! lol. Otherwise, not so much about holidays... mostly because of all the bloody commercialization.

Am I the only one who thinks putting out Christmas stuff on Halloween is just wrong? That's when they start doing it now. Pretty soon they'll start putting out the Christmas stuff on April Fools!
The whole point of a holiday is that it's a DAY that has significance. Not a whole freaking two or three months! That just shoots the entire purpose of it straight to hell. I would love it if they would at least wait until like the last week of November or the first week of December. That should be plenty of time for people to get their shit together and if ya can't do it then NO PRESENTS FOR YOU! lol.

In other news...

I figured maybe my bloodsugar was crashing and went and got a soda and some trail mix. It didn't work. The spinning got worse... it started doing it while I was sitting down.
Do you guys have any idea how embarrassing it is to trip and fall over while you're sitting down?
Anyway, so my manager gave me a ride home (Thank you Lisa!), after a bit of confusion as to where my locker was ("It's right to the left."). And from there mom took me down to an urgent care up the street.

SO much fun, lemme tell ya [/sarcasm]

Turns out I've got a sinus infection, so I get to stay home for a couple of days and take some really nasty tasting antibiotics.

So nobody expect any art for the next week or so.
I go back to bed now.

We'd gotten a ticket for running a red light in our car accident. We found out the ticket was based on incorrect SECOND HAND information. Apprently no one but us actually could say for sure what colour the light was when we entered the intersection (it was yellow as a bee's butt, guys), so the judge just (shaking his head) decided to rule in our favour.
Those cops made themselves look like total idiots.

Cop: Well I wrote her a ticket for running a red light based on what officer nimrod said this one lady who was behind a truck said.
Witnesses: Um... dude, she didn't even SEE the freaking light. She was BEHIND A TRUCK.
Cop: Really?
Judge: Are you sure that's not a plastic cop badge?


SO now we get to have the insurance company refile our claim and give us money to get a new car ^_^ I's gon' be fun.

I lost the fight with the airbag and broke my right hand; spiral fracture in the third metacarpal (horray for typing one-handed with any kind of speed). And I am brusied all over, mostly where the seatbelt was, and my back is killing me. And the vicodin is making me loopy x.@;;;;; but it keeps me from screaming every time I move.

University of Phoenix called yesterday for my phone interview for a job there.
(go figure, lol) I'm keeping my fingers, toes, and eyes crossed that they'll call me back with a job. I'll have to take the bus down to work everyday until we can get another car, but I'll manage. And even if they don't call me, I'll still have my job at Dillard's to keep us going while I look for something else.

Anyway, so not much art is going to be going up, kinda duh. I'm getting a real cast put on next week (the one I have on right now is only a temporary one). And about two months after that I'll be able to use my hand again. I no longer work for Slaveway! ...erm... Safeway, I meant Safeway... yeah.
Damn groccery store screwed up my shoulder with all the heavy lifting (seems likely it's a torn rotator cuff ) Seriously, thank your bagger the next time you go shopping, those poor fools have to lift about 5-15 pounds about 3 times every 5 seconds for 8 hours straight a day... and for only 5 or 6 bucks per hour.
I'm working at a Dillard's now. Three bucks more an hour and a straight 40 hours a week. Only about one weekend off a month, but hey, bigger paychecks, I'll put up with a small inconvenience ^_^
With any luck, I'll be at UoP pretty soon making even more money.

And it means more money to spend on artshtuff! Not more time, but, I'll try not to fall too badly behind, lol.

There's a good chance that I may be getting "promoted" at work. It's basically moving me to another section of the store, but hey, an extra 50 cents an hour and less of the heavy lifting. Woohoo! Means more money in my pocket = MORE ART SHTUFFS!
