Well, I'm busy with things like applying for jobs, working my current job, and just all-around trying not to die horribly in this crazy world, but it's the fall anime season and I gotta check to see if there's anything good!

There's not. Well, that makes it easy.

No, wait...there's nothing "OMG I MUST WATCH THIS" right now as far as I can see, which is okay, since I still have my weekly Soul Eater to watch. That being said, I usually at least try to hit up the slice-of-life series each season, since those are my favorite. I am always on the lookout for another Azumanga Daioh, and I've been lucky enough to find gems like Sketchbook and Hidamari Sketch and Minami-ke because of it. Here's hoping for this season as well!

Kannagi
-Um, this starts with a hapless male high schooler making a wooden statue and then it explodes and turns into a girl. She is some sort of forest spirit and needs his help saving nature from inky bugs. The girl is funny because she seems to know about things like TVs, but is fascinated by them. Hapless male lead is hapless, but not really to a hateable level. I guess episode two is needed to see whether this is going anywhere.

Verdict: Not deleted, but didn't wow. Give it a couple eps, I guess.

Toradora!
-Okay, so there's this hapless male high schooler who looks like a delinquent, but isn't. People are afraid of him at school because he looks evil, but people are also his friends because they know he is not evil. I don't know, it's confusing. There is a TINY GIRL in the school who looks like Chiaki from Minami-ke. Like, exactly. She is hyper-violent and bossy, so I think I'm really just riding the Chiaki vibe in enjoying her at all. She likes the hapless male lead's best friend, and hapless male lead likes her best friend. They decide to work together to get their targets...which sounds like a decent enough start to a romantic comedy, but it just seems to be an excuse for hyper-Chiaki to be a bitch and hapless male lead to get "I am boss"-ed around and then smile ruefully and shake his head, saying "that's our hyper-Chiaki."
This thing's had, like, eight light novels in Japan, so maybe it's good or something, but it just doesn't seem to add much to any of the conventions it's going with. Basic high school setting, basic loser male, wrathful loli, the end. I guess we are supposed to root for this mismatched pair learning to coexist or something, or maybe learning to...love? I have no idea.

Verdict: Chiaki-vibe makes me remember the awesomeness of Minami-ke, but so far it's really not funny or good enough. I may give it another episode.

That's all for now, here's hoping a couple more show up this week that are worth checking out.

-Myi

So last night we celebrated at the pub since a few of our dear friends are leaving. About 3 pints is enough for me to alternate between tipsy and super talkative, so I went off on some random tangents last night.

Honestly, I don't remember much of any of 'em. Something about being kings and having a more interesting life by having so many failed relationships.

I don't think I made much of any sense, but when I got home and played a little bit of The World Ends With You I kinda figured out what I was trying to say. A big part of TWEWY is the characters' trying to expand their individual worlds. I thought it was a really neat idea, I mean, the title sounded like some sort of doomsday thing where you're the only kid who can save the world...but it's really more of a personal view. The World Ends With You, which is to say that your world is only as big as you make it. If you're bored of the same old places, tired of the same old people, or yearning for something more...YOU have the power to change it. Your world is as big as you want it to be, only limited by how far you go.

I used to get rather depressed about the fact that my relationships have all ended in shitty ways while I see others getting married or at least having real long-term success with their significant others. But if you think about it, I can consider myself lucky in a way, too. At the risk of sounding risqué, you learn a lot about someone when you date them. I'm not talkin' about sluttering about from person to person so you can say who's the best in bed, it's just true that people usually tell their significant other a lot more than they would tell just any ole' friend. So I've learned a lot about a few people, their likes and dislikes, hopes and dreams, about their family, or their childhood, what makes them laugh or cry, angry or scared.

And you can say that it sucked that those relationships all ended, but if the first hadn't then the second would never have happened, or the third, the fourth, etc. Your world is only as big as you make it, and when your world is set, fixed on just ONE other person, maybe you lose some of that freedom to expand your world. Sure you get the benefit of knowing another person even more expertly, and maybe you're still good at expanding your world through friends, but I think you still lose some of that freedom of discovery, some of that ability to find out "how" and "why" another person is who he or she is.

And in the end, I can't really say I have regrets from it all, ya know? I got the highs as well as the lows, and I met a lot of amazing people and learned amazing things about their amazing lives. Broke some hearts and had mine broke in return, but I've also had the joy of being an important piece in a number of other peoples' lives, and had them in return be an important piece in mine, for at least a few paragraphs in the ole' autobiography, I'm sure. My world was definitely expanded, and sometimes it happens when you don't want it to, or you weren't expecting it, and maybe when it's all over your world was greater...but empty. Your world doesn't shrink while you have memories, or little trinkets that connect you to the past, even though some of those who expanded your world are nothing more than such remembrances.

So to all of you, expand your horizons because the world ends with you. You'll meet people who will change your life and show you the world, but they may be gone just as suddenly as they arrived. And that's okay, because you can hold on to what you learned...and your world will only become greater. If you've had luck like mine, be glad you had the opportunity to meet amazing people and learn amazing things about them that you wouldn't have if your world was fixed, and if you're on top of the world, don't forget to still seek out new people and learn about them too. If nothing else, don't be afraid to get close to people, friend or more, because you only get one chance through this world, and the people you meet and the experiences you have will make sure your world is as grand as you want it to be.

-Myui

Holy crap is this an amazing game.

I've been wanting it for awhile now, but the $40 price tag was kind of annoying. A friend of mine was pretty set on getting it, so I said "what the hell" and decided I'd grab it as well. More fun to play through with a friend than by yourself. Sadly, neither of us could find it. SAD. Then by chance when I went to the bank I decided to stop by the nearby GameStop and they had one, like, buried on the shelf. Random success!

So anyway, the game is pretty powerful. The KH-ish style is on full display, but the artwork really takes things to the next level. It's like Kingdom Hearts mixed with Jet Grind Radio. BOSS. Combine that with the randomly shifting soundtrack and modern Japan setting and you really feel the JGR. Together, the art and music really move the story along, and all the little cutscenes (Square, remember?) are really pretty fun and involving.

I also love all the little things to do. Like, micro-management to the extreme. It can be a bit overwhelming, but it also makes things pretty hectic/fun most of the time.

Battles are the most difficult thing to get used to. I'm still not entirely sure on what I'm doing. You control both the kid on the top and the kid on the bottom of the two screens at once. The girl, Shiki, requires you to shift her move along a little, uh, dance pad thing. Left right left left down etc. Not too bad, although I haven't really been able to tell the difference between the attacks that well. Meanwhile, Neku on the bottom screen needs you to twirl the stylus around to attack. You assign pins and then have to memorize how to draw the attack.

Doing one at a time while enemies are rushing at you isn't bad. I've gotten pretty good at 30+ combos with Neku. But trying to remember stylus moves and crap with Neku while also following the dance moves for Shiki is totally difficult. I can usually pull some stuff off and everything, but I always do better just controlling Neku while leaving Shiki on automatic. It's not too bad, but Shiki's auto AI is pretty damn stupid. They really make you want to run both characters, but hell if I know how to get such power.

Oh well, I've only had it for a day but I am impressed. I'm not sure how lasting it is, but the game has style and is a lot of fun. They know they put a ton of crap in here, so they kind of give you a new thing or two every so often so you don't get too overwhelmed. I'd say this is pretty must-have for DS, though. Good Times.

5. Minami-Ke
The story of three sisters and their life. I'm always a sucker for slice-of-life series that bring the funny and Minami-Ke delivers quite well. It has a bit more of a mature bent to some of the humor, but doesn't shy away from sillyness or a well-placed smack and cry of "dumbass!" Minami-Ke balances the antics of the three sisters rather well and just never lets up. Here's hoping the second season is just as good (if somebody'd translate it already, sheesh)

Watch this if: You like slice-of-life comedies and don't mind a little saucyness.

4. Sketchbook Full Color'S
The story of Sora, a very quiet girl, and her friends in the art club at school. Compared to Minami-Ke, Sketchbook tends to have a more quiet humor. There's still a good mix of puns, wordplay, and more action-oriented bits, but not as much flash. Heck, Sora, our main character, tends to inner-monologue half the time. And yet every episode made me laugh quite a bit. Sora has quite the range of quirks and hilarious facial expressions to make up for her quietness. Her friends are all amusing in their own ways, too, such as the girl who talks with puppets, the Canadian exchange student who freaks out in English, and the whole range of slightly insane upperclassmen. There's also the comedy duo, who usually get a little scene to themselves where they make the funniest jokes ever. I'm not sure how they do it, but it's genius. Sketchbook was mostly overlooked by a lot of folks, (and we're still waiting for the last two episodes to be subbed) but it is a real gem that I hope will be remembered by fans of slice-of-life shows along with Minami-Ke and Hidamari Sketch.

Watch this if: You like comedy and you like art. This show is really very pretty, which fits well into the plan for a show about art. They put a lot of subtle details into everything that really make it all beautiful.

3. Hidamari Sketch
There's room for plenty of slice-of-life shows at the top in 2007, even plenty of shows about art. Some genres this doesn't work, but in slice-of-life, where the characters are the focus more than anything else, you can have very similar concept shows be so vastly different. Hidamari is the story of four girls at an art school. While Minami and Sketchbook dealt pretty well with lots of funny situations and lots of funny characters, Hidamari keeps it to just the four girls, their teacher, and the principal for the most part. Miyako is particularly legendary for her Osaka-like levels of zen hilarity. The show has a lot of random and rather absurd humor, although it also has a good number of art and academic jokes. These fit, obviously, and really make for a more realistic setting in the end. The show is also very very artsy. Now, it got panned by a lot of bloggers for that, WHICH MAKES NO SENSE. It's like they missed the fact that a show about art was going to be artsy. Dur. Photos of food, or paintings, or sculptures, art supplies, whatever...it all fits really well into the idea of the show. They also don't shy away from some really crazy artistic plays that fit into the story. The adorable super-deformed faces, or the cross-hatching backgrounds, or some crazy color work in a scene...it all fits into the flow of the anime so well that you just "get it" and it's good. Or, as in many folks' cases apparently, you don't.

Watch this if: You like funny, you like art, you like creative and imaginative shows.

2. Lovely Complex
This shouldn't surprise anyone who's seen some of my other journal entries. Lovely Complex is the genuinely heartfelt and funny tale of a tall girl, Risa, and her love of Otani, a short boy. Risa, ably voice by the amazing Akemi Okamura (who also voices Nami in One Piece) is just a great character. She's not perfect, she's insecure, she has a tendency to get over-excited about random dorky things, but she's always very genuine. You can't help but cheer with her at every victory and tear up at every defeat.

Watch this if: You like comedy and romance.

1. Gurren Lagann
There's not much I could add to what others' have said. This show is amazing, Gainex may be remaking Eva into some pretty movies, but THIS is where it's at. Amazing rollercoaster story of mankind's epic struggle to get above ground, defeat their oppressors, and reach the stars. Or something like that. Gurren Lagann is already a legendary mecha, Kamina and Simon are legendary badasses, and Yoko's already up there with Haruko for most legendary "chick on a vespa." This is the type of show you marathon simply because you can't wait to see what happens next. It's at the top of everyone's list for best show of 2007, and I can't disagree. Truly an epic masterpiece.

Watch this if: You like action, adventure, comedy, drama, mecha, anime, whatever. You WILL believe a man's drill is the drill that will pierce the heavens!

So it's 2008, now, and everyone's counting down their top shows, games, moments, whatever, of 2007. I would love to count down the most powerful moments of the year that will be remembered in the history books, but I forget a lot of things. However, I do remember most of the anime shows I watched this year, so I guess I'll count those down.

I actually watched a good number of shows this year, but as I didn't watch every damn show or anything, I feel a bit wrong calling my list a "best of" list. So instead, I will count down my 10 most recommended shows of 2007. Shows I enjoyed that, while they may not be at the top of many blog lists, I will try to get you to check out sometime. Try to imagine some awesome awesome along with these blurbs or something, since I'm too lazy to put together a big ole' production.

10. Dennou Coil and Romeo X Juliet - Two series that I fell behind on when the subs stopped coming and then never really got back to. I would like to finish them, though, so I feel a good need to recommend 'em, especially since they were fairly enjoyable. Dennou Coil has a fascinating world where kids interact with a sort of "cyber world" that parallells our real world. Cool idea, and there's a healthy dose of mystery and wonder in seeing the kids deal with this world. Digimon season 12, or thereabouts. Regarding Romeo X Juliet, some people scoffed at the flying horses, Robin Hood-esque Juliet, and liberal use of the word "Neo." That being said, I enjoyed the fact that one of the all-time great love stories was reimagined instead of just being told again. Juliet was very compelling as a character, although I think the contribution to her character was rather off-put by the worthlessness of Romeo. He's nigh unlikeable in this version, which makes the watcher want Juliet to just stab him and get on with overthrowing his father. Hell, take yourself some Tybalt. He's your cousin and all, but hey, it's Shakespeare.

09. Higurashi no noko koro ni kai - A second season to the first Higurashi, a mystery/horror anime if I ever saw one. Random violence and "creepy-as-all-fuck" killer lolis made for a truly creepy watch (especially since the subs came out around midnight, heh) This season was not as good. Less of the friend turning on friend suspense of the first and more of kids getting killed by guys with guns. That being said, there is still plenty of mystery and such and the big ole' mystery is finally somewhat explained sort of kinda. I suggest watching the first season, followed by this one if you fancied it.

08. Lucky Star - Okay, so maybe this show wasn't all that funny. But it had Konata, and Tsukasa, and Akira, and Patty...great characters that weren't always working with the best material. Some people enjoyed the parodies more than me, and some people were fine with moe and nothing else, but among the amazing slice-of-life shows this year, Lucky Star is sadly lacking in the comedy. That being said, it's still pretty and has some great characters, so it's worth watching...once, anyway.

07. Moyashimon - This guy can see Microbes, like bacteria, and such, and so of course he goes to an agricultural college and gets into wacky adventures with upperclassmen and professors making sake. The microbes are adorable, the show is rather funny, and you actually learn a thing or two about bacteria, Japanese agriculture, and making sake. It's like the Magic School Bus of anime.

06. Hayate the Combat Butler - Well into its second season, Hayate is still a lot of fun. The fightin' butler aspect was genius enough, but the constant parodies don't hurt either. And unlike Lucky Star, the jokes keep coming to keep up with the show's rather manic pace. The cast is great, too, with Hayate, Nagi, Maria, and all the rest. The show never takes itself too seriously, and it works. And even I can usually get a good number of the parodies and references, so more knowledgeable folks'll probably have an even easier time loving this show.

Too much! I'll finish off the top 5 next time.

Ah ha, I'm finally getting to the features! A little late, but I was so hoping to feature more folks. Could it be that my journal entries are just ignored? Maybe I'm only good for a chibi and a joke. That puts a bit of a damper on this whole features thing, eh? Hahahaha.

MOVING ON.

Features are like Daily Deviations for real people. Here we try to build the network of watchers and...watchees...into something more like the friends list it really is. It's like, "Hey look at these people" or something. Or, "Look, art!" roar! And stuff.

1.

Here's the first, a Mr. Gogeta. This guy has a lot of character study pics, really trying to get down the human form, ya know? That being said, he's not opposed to having characters randomly moon ya, either. COMEDY APPROVED.
--Terran Ailindrien, workout First of all, this pic taught me that you could put commas in titles. Amazing! Actually, I'm a big fan of people trying out new things or new styles, and here he's decided to work on improving in areas. I liked the hair, though, even for an in-progress kind of thing, it looks nicely disheveled.
--The Flashcat runs Speaking of trying new things again, motion! Not only is the pose pretty good, but I like her expression. Run run!
--Modern Amelia Home Alone Continuing evidence that all people really want in life is to dance around in their underwear with an iPod. Comedy!

2.

Speaking of people who try new styles and new things, this girl's got a ton of variety. Snuffles' art ranges from realistic to anime-istic, covering everything from comics and pictures from her personal stories to lolitas and art nouveau to fanart and whole lotta Naruto gals. Can I cheat and pick four to show off?
--Sakura In A Tree We'll start with some Naruto girl, in this case, Sakura. In a tree. I tried to pick one of her Naruto fanarts that isn't super insanely popular, IT'S DIFFICULT. But you can see why, her style blends both cute and cool so very well. Whether she's got the characters in their normal gear or changes it up with some original outfits, it's always impressive.
--Dress Hinata Ver 1 Did I mention she's also made some adorable dress-up games?
--Sei's Portrait The coloring on this is amazing, especially the attention to light and shadow, among other details. For all her fanart, she's also quite accomplished at bringing her own worlds to life, which is always nice to see in a writer.
--Punk Nouveau Snuffles' work in Art Nouveau is some of her most amazing. Both distinctive of her style and Nouveau itself, the pictures seem so much like a natural evolution of her work. The amount of detail in this picture combined with the coloring style gives it a lot of charm, almost as much as the girl's sexy/relaxed look. Sexylaxed? Relexy?
--Seasonal Change And I had to finish with Snuffles bringing the funny. Not only is Chibi one of the most adorable comic characters ever, but she's not afraid to tell it like it is. Seriously, what the fu( snow! )

3.

This dude...is the dude. dude. Don't check his stuff out unless you want to be impressed, the way this guy colors is insane. It can be subtle or jarring, but it always looks good, like a friendly reminder that coloring can be the best part of a picture. This is the stuff you'd jam your face into at an art gallery to appreciate it as close as you can, trying to see the brush strokes themselves and figure out how he blended the colors so well. And screen caps from the latest episode. More love for Sakura making weird noises! XD
That'll have to be my next fanart, right after I finish something else or two. I actually did a guest comic for a webcomic I read, but I don't think I'll post it unless it's actually used. LET MY SHAME BE SECRET!
Little review for Minami-Ke 03 if you're interested. Does that mean Minami grows on you like some hideous...growth? Well I'm still a week behind, but I broke out of writing my NaNoWriMo to try and catch up a bit on the ole' blog. (And now Sketchbook 05 is out, which puts me two weeks behind...hahaha)
Sketchbook is hard to blog, I get kinda caught in it when I first watch it, then when I go back to take screen caps (since I missed it the first time) I end up watching the show again and laughing and missing the caps.
Sketchbook is an amazing show this anime season, but it's not getting enough love! I wrote up a little piece on SoL anime for my blog, considering we've got both Sketchbook and Minami-Ke as good examples this season, and tried to distill the sort of subtle humor going on here. It's rambling and was SUPPOSED to be an episode review, but ah well.

Why is that statement funny? I WILL TELL YOU.

There's a new Naruto opening! Yeah, we're finally pushing past the rescue Gaara arc and into the more stupid, convoluted storylines of Shippuuden! But this new starting is just over the top with the creepy. "You are my friend, you are my dream" they yell, it's all about Sasuke and Naruto...and Sai! Yeah, that creepy boy with the half shirt and pouty lips gets to shake it on the opening. We also get Sasuke naked and wrapped in a snake. What is not to love?

Maybe I'm missing it. I mean, it's not "for" me. The fangirls, maybe? They'll probably eat this up...except for Sai. Nobody likes him. NOBODY. We also get Naruto freaking out and Sakura...twirling? Something. Whatever. Together with the song, though, this starting is just too silly. Oh, and the ending is Sai bein' sexy. Which is combined with adorable little drawings from his sketchbook of him being all stupid and "not getting" Sakura and Naruto's teamwork. It ends with him silently musing cuz he just doesn't understand. IT IS ADORABLE, and then they show you him shaking at you with bedroom eyes and the magic is gone. Man, who's in charge of this stuff? Kishimoto is the only one who likes Sai, so he must be in direct control of the anime now, or something. Nobody else would be like "This needs one thing: more Sai"

It didn't go out with the OH EM GEE amazingness of Haruhi, nor the HOLY SHIT THEY JUST THREW A GALAXY AT THE OTHER GUY level of power from Gurren Lagann, but Lovely Complex went out just the way it should have: funny, cute, and ultimately wonderful.

I know I've talked about it before, but Lovely Complex is an amzing series. It's romantic comedy, per se, but the comedy is always going strong and the amount of romance is more often that not fuel for the fire. It's got a strong slice of life aspect, too, with the ending episodes involving exams and future plans. It's like Azu with love, almost. The comedy is not as good as Azu, but it's still miles ahead of everyone else. and the main character is a touch of Tomo and Chiyo inside a Sakaki. A lot has to be said for Risa Koizumi, she's quickly become one of my all-time favorite anime characters. She's weird, awkward, tall, and about as much as a misfit as one could find...but she has heart, and you'll get wrapped up in her quest for fun, happiness, acceptance, and love. You'll cheer her every step forward and cry with her on every step back, (and poor Risa cries a lot) but her determination and optimism is an example for us all. You can't stop trying, you can only move forward. Lovely Complex hits all the notes of Gurren Lagann's determination but with the setting of a high school and a girl's dream. Not all books need to be about war, some can be about something as simple as finding yourself, growing up, and trying to find love. And those stories can be just as powerful, and can teach you just as much as any galaxy-spanning adventure.

I would suggest you watch Lovely Complex. Risa is a joy to follow in this story and she'll definitly steal your heart. You want her to win, for herself. For everyone who's ever been in love and had it fail, for everyone who's ever had a dream, for everyone who's ever tried so hard they thought they'd burst. You can find hope in the fate of the universe, or in the hope of one person.

Oh, and Risa was voiced by Akemi Okamura, also known as Nami from One Piece. Dayamn she is a good voice actor, she's done amazing work on One Piece and she shows she can carry a whole series herself, too.

Nothing quite like staying up half the night to see the final episode of an anime. I did it for Haruhi, and now here I'm doing it again for Gurren Lagann. 3 hours of sleep is nothing, who the fuck do you think I am!? (this is a quote, I'm not so mad)

If you haven't been watching Gurren Lagann, go. Go and marathon the whole thing and be happy that there is still kick ass anime. Gainax has made something amazing, here. FLCL was six episodes of awesome. Gurren Lagann is 27 episodes that are just as jam-packed as each episode of FLCL. And Eva? Forget Eva. Eva's dead. Never watch it again. Torch all copies you own of the series. Gurren Lagann has more action, is funnier, has better characters, and STILL deals with as much weighty material as Eva. Except no Shinji. It's the anti-Eva, where characters are flawed and troubled but they embrace life and move forward. It's not easy, the ending isn't "happy," but the future is wide open and full of possibilities.

Of course, I haven't fully digested the final episode, yet. Heh. It's unexpected, it's amazing...you won't see a final battle of this scope ever again, I think. And yet it's also sad.

It's been called "epic" on many a blog. Buzzword, really. But...true. You watch the first episode and it's crazy, it's amazing, it's completely over-the-top and you know there's no way episode 2 will be as good.

And then it's better.

And then episode 3, and 4, and 5...every episode is a notch higher. The guys who did this show are crazy, you will see stuff that's just unbelievable and then they'll top it the next episode.

Yeah, okay, I'm done gushing. There are still some I need to get to watch this show with me, and I think I'll enjoy seeing it all through again. And I invite all readers to watch this show, because I like you guys, and Gurren Lagann is epic.

The bar has been raised for all anime to come.

[link]

This has been keeping me giggling and intrigued for a couple days, now. It's a little point-and-click adventure game (for free) that you can download. It's Nelly Cootalot: spoonbeaks ahoy! The tale of young Nelly Cootalot, a pirate girl off to find treasure, adventure, and...other piratey things. The game lets you interact with bajillions of things, and every other click gives you a reason to laugh out loud by what characters say and do, or just by the weird stuff that's around. Take for example a cannon in a shop.
1- You can try to talk to it, to which Nelly responds with: "Seems like he's not the talkative type."
2- You can try to grab it and use it, to which Nelly responds with "I don't have the money for such a thing!"
3- You can "check" the cannon and examine it, to which Nelly responds with "Ooh, nice. I could do so much maiming with this thing."

So it's quirky, and funny, and delightfully weird. The puzzles are rather tough, trying to figure out who to talk to and what to use where. (I am still only a bit into the game)
And it's free and only 15 mb. So if it looks and sounds like as awesome as it is...and you know it is...I send you to download and play it.

the GODDAMN phone is dead! XD

I have been busy packing and getting ready to head back to the ole' college for my final year. It's exciting and terrifying all at once. I have big plans for the year and hopefully it won't go as fast as last year because then I'll feel like I might have a TINY bit of control over my rapidly approaching future.

But today I saw my cell phone bill. FIFTY-TWO FUCKIN' DOLLARS. That's right, fuckin'-dollars. It's jumped up twenty bucks in one month! I looked back, no I didn't go over, no I didn't just use my phone too much. They upped the price sans reason.

Considering how much my phone randomly turns off, or misses calls for no reason, or forgets to tell me when I have messages...

Well, I think you can understand my consternation.

So I called on the spot and canceled the damn thing. Of course, this means I'll need a new phone and a new number, soon. But oh am I excited, I do not need anymore of this Sprint/Nextel bullshit. I still have to pay the fitty-two dollah, and another bill beyond, but at the very least I am free to get something better. It felt GOOD to kill the beast, and I'll probably smash the damn thing with a hammer at some point in the future. Good riddance.

But yes, almost time for school. I am awash with anticipation.

Recent good things:
1. Phone is dead, soon.
2. Reasonably packed for school.
3. More money in checking than anticipated.
4. Tobi fanart
5. Almost halfway done with Odin Sphere. Yay.
6. Lovely Complex episode 18. Oh my gawd, it was adorable! *sobs*
7. Final beach trip. Emphasis on BEACH and not final.
8. No more summer job.
9. Soul Nomad and the world eaters = Myui want very much.

Recent no good:
1. Sweltering heat.
2. Lack of progress on various fronts.
3. Less money in savings than anticipated.
4. No-so-much finished short stories as anticipated.
5. No more summer money source.
6. Unrequited...

That's a net gain for good, though.

I finished the last book. It was good. I think this one had more problems stylistically than the other books, but I could understand her desire to bring 7 books worth of a world to a close.

But it was good. You get swept along right to the end. I think she handled a lot of the mystery in this book, (as she builds in pretty much every Potter book) very well.

There was some nice humor as well. Wand jokes should be pretty prevalent for awhile, which I am wholeheartedly in support of. Expect some fanart/a comic soon regarding magic, muggles, and time travelers.

I don't come to you today griping about work.
Or lamenting my lack of comic-k-ing materials.
OR even to inform you all of what anime you should be watching (Gurren Lagann and Lovely Complex)

No, today I lament my car: Nebeuchadinosaur. For those wanting some phonics, we would use Nuh-boo-kuh-dinosaur. That is his name. He is an old car, an Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight (from about '92) and his 15 years of life often make things a little difficult. He was old when I got him, six years ago, and nothing's ever been perfect...but he's a good car, ya know?

Used to be a luxury car. All leather interior. Power windows and locks. Huge. Some of this stuff still works. He's a boat, really. Now.

Today I got out to my car and a piece of the dashboard had fallen down.

How to explain this...where one used to find a break pedal and an accelerator, one now finds a strange black block as well. It was not there earlier. It seems to have come from somewhere up towards the engine. Why it is down by the pedals all of a sudden I do not know. Shoving it back from whence it came does not work as it seems to be somewhat immobile when pushed in reverse.

Oh mystery block, you kind of get in my way while driving...but I do not hate you. Nebeuchadinosaur is an old man, and if a thing or two starts FALLING DOWN, well, better than falling off, I suppose.

Not for me, sadly, but I haven't really gotten around to spending my birthday money "proper."

But yes, my sister just got a brand new Dell Insperion Laptop. It's shiny silver, runs Windows Vista, and she named it Grimlock. It is a lovely computer. This combined with my older brother's acquisition of a new Dell as well last Christmas fills me with a longing for a new laptop.

I DO NOT NEED A NEW LAPTOP.

But as with many things in life, wants do not always make sense to our needs. My Compaq is over three years old, now. Miyuki has been my stallwort companion through college, and she still has a lot left in her. Sure the wireless doesn't really work anymore...and the USB port on the right side stopped working...but she's still good.

Maybe after college. A formidable desktop would be nice, too, but man's romance has always been the portable computer.

Closing again, today. Hopefully it won't be as bad as last Saturday when 30 people decided to come in shortly before closing. 10 o'clock, people. Go home or go out, but don't go here. No, a super market is not considered going "out," dammit.

Anime- New Hidamari Sketch, Dennou Coil, and Hayate.
Hidamari is a joy, as usual, but there's only a few episodes left. So sad. Dennou continues to show what would happen if life had some MMORPG elements in it. Oh sure there's some moments of terror, but who doesn't want to punch a hole to the Internet in a wall?
Hayate was pretty funny and seems to be leading up to more impressive things. But the show needs to pick up to become a keeper after the series ends. It's not Lucky Star, what with the whole "I should keep Lucky Star even though it's not that good. Because it's Lucky Star" thing.

Oh, and Lovely Complex is awesome. It looks like some Shojo crap, yet is refreshingly hilarious for a slice of high school series. I'm only up to episode 3, but it's quite manic fun.

Lovely.

Yeah, my birthday is on Wednesday, which is also the only day I get off this week. Ironic. Not like I'll complain, though.

Odin Sphere is indeed still a hard game, but I love it to death, too. The story is amazing. I think I'm nearing the end of Gwendolyn's book. At the very least, I just killed a goddamn dragon in a volcano. I KNOW. There was lava and fire and shit everywhere. It was nuts. Time on fire > time not on fire for poor Gwendy. She pulled through, though. She got to go home, put on a pretty dress, sulk, and then go for some spicy chicken at the rabbit restaurant. It was a good time.

I got the Haruhi DVD. I'm okay with spending money on Haruhi. I've watched the show so many times I feel I owe them something. But dammit, they put the episodes in order! I KNOW. Okay, so to explain, Haruhi originally was shown out of order. Some people complained cuz they said it messed up the plot. THEY ARE WRONG. The episodes were out of order, which meant you had to figure some stuff out with a little effort, but they knew what they were doing. The last episode of Haruhi falls around 6 or so chronologically. FAIL. It was shown last cuz it's the most kickass one and it totally has to come last. It's way better that way. Alas, putting them "in order" is totally a worse way to watch Haruhi.

I'm not sold on the voices, either, which seems to be the general consensus of Haruhi snobs. Kyon is okay. Mikuru and Yuki get better as it goes along. And Wendee Lee is Haruhi. Yeah, Faye-Faye. She pitches out a lot and it makes me sad. I'll watch the dub through for...I don't know, posterity, but the original's the way to go. Totally. Out of order, too. Dammit.

Oh, and Dennou Coil 3 is out. The show just keeps getting better and better. Might be one of the few shows this season worth keeping after the season ends. Oh, and I need more Hidamari sketch subs! Come on, people, the genius needs to be shown.

I love the game, but it does not dismiss the fact that Odin Sphere is THE HARDEST GAME EVER. Seriously. Like a biting cat, or a little girl with a knife, Odin Sphere sucks you in with its cuteness and then rips you apart. The graphics are gorgeous, the gameplay is fun, the story is interesting, and then suddenly you're fighting a dragon that doesn't fit on the screen and who can swallow you if he feels like it.

At first it was kind of funny, what with the unlimited continues and all. "Haha, Odin Sphere, I sure wasn't expecting to fight a giant plant, there. Now I'm dead! Guess I better try again..."
Or
"Wow, that ghost sure came out of nowhere. Now I'm on fire? Gee whiz, maybe if it'd stop raping me for a second I could figure out how to fight back. Good one, Odin Sphere!"

But now it's just starting to get out of hand. I'm not even to the final boss of the first story, but I'm currently fighting two Berserkers at once. Basically giant men who can jump, rush, and basically fly about belying their massive size. Anytime one of their retarded and hard to anticipate attacks hit me, I'm pretty much dead. They are bosses, and I have to fight two at once. They don't split up, either. If I try to focus on one, the other rushes back and they stand together again. To make matters worse, there are FUCKING GNOMES. That's right, gnomes keep popping up and tossing bombs at me. The bombs are tiny and black and hard to see, but when they explode I am lit on fire if I don't die immediatly.
What the hell, Odin Sphere? What the hell?
You make me fight so many bosses. Bosses that are hard and strong and fast and who only give me a little bit of time to figure out what the hell's going on before having to fight back. And now I need to fight two at once? Man you're so mean.

Yeah. Odin Sphere is awesome. But it's really effing hard. I guess this is a good thing...
I'm gonna go yell at my game for awhile, now. Toodles.

And that's pretty much why it sucks.

I'm not really going out on a limb here by being disappointed with Lucky Star. The blog community watches it more out of respect for Kyoto than anything, and the thought that "Maybe next episode will be awesome..."

Well it won't be. Because Lucky Star is Family Guy: nothing but references and gags based on either a. "controversial" humor or b. annoying humor. Parodies and references CAN be well done. Too many examples to count, but look to Hayate for recent, well done stuff. Lucky Star falls into the same problem as Family Guy: references that aren't backed by a joke. You may smile for a second if you see Optimus Prime in Family Guy, but if there's no joke...will it be funny again? Will you repeat the "joke" to friends later? Family Guy loves more "shocking" stuff I would say, dealing with violence or bodily functions. I use the term "shocking" in a loose sense, as fellow shows like South Park, the Simpsons, and movies have been doing such for years. Is it funny just because they can show it? Same thing with annoyingly long sequences that don't lead to much of a joke. Apparently the setup is supposed to make you laugh by being tedious. You can do this! It's been done! Why is it not funny when they do it, then?

The latest episode of Lucky Star, number 6, sadly displays all these glaring problems. It doesn't help that it's an episode about going to the beach with your teacher. If you're gonna try to do something as well as Azu, you better not fail. Alas, failure away.

References- The Initial D reference seems to be the most prevalent one. Having never seen the show, I didn't care so much about the parody, only that it wasn't funny. At all. Why? Because it didn't go anywhere, and it even overshadowed the amusing escapades of LOL Fang-sensei getting lost with her half of the group. Remember when Azu did it? Yukari's bad driving was funny enough, but what really drove the joke forward was Chiyo's trauma and Nyamo remarking that there'd be less casualties if she took more of the girls. Lucky Star FAIL.

Shock value- At least I think that's what they were trying for by having an extended discussion of periods by the girls in the bath house. Again I think Lucky Star misses the mark by forgetting to have a joke, or a reaction, to the scene. I'm not sure how we got to this point in existence where mentioning bodily functions in and of themselves is a joke, but I would really like to know. Girls have periods. It's not really something to laugh at unless you want to get hit. Maybe you can stop a man in the street nowadays and just say "Penis." to him and he'll laugh. Wonderful. Again, Lucky Star needed some response to their "joke" in order to make it funny. Konata tries this by being confused as to what they are talking about, but does it really work to have a 17 year old girl being confused by periods? Remember when Azu had Sakaki and Osaka discussing hemorrhoids on the beach? It was funny enough just to be a word game by Osaka, but you didn't laugh until Yomi asks what they're talking about and Osaka replies with "Hemorrhoids" while Sakaki freaks. Lucky Star FAIL.

And last, the annoying tedious jokes- It can be done, again, but Lucky Star hits more on the side of Family Guy by making just tedium itself the joke, instead of a necessary part of a joke. It goes like this: the punchline comes at the end of the wait. In rare cases it can work, such as the infamous scene of Peter hitting his knee and gasping for a good minute, but it also rested upon the fact that him hitting his knee was funny. Lucky Star just hasn't picked up on a good way to do this. The first episode was an extended "joke" about food. Nobody liked it. Nobody thought it was funny. The tradition continues with this episode having an extended discussion of the sun's affect on skin at the beach. It's not amusing, it just happens. Lucky Star FAIL. AGAIN.

There are always a couple of amusing parts in the Lucky Star episodes, but there's never anything that really makes me want to rewatch an episode or get others to watch it. Of course, Lucky Star has been a letdown for most everyone, but with continuing hope in the next episode being "awesome."

Meanwhile, we also get new episodes of stuff you should watch more than Lucky Star.
Gurren Lagann- Still the prettiest, most action-packed, and most amusing show on right now.
Nagasarete Airantou- Still funny, now with character development? Well there ya go.
Hayate- Still okay. Not great, but okay. Some amusing bits about trains, though.
Kaibutsu Oujo- Action packed and quite amusing. Also winner of best ending theme/visuals for the spring.
Romeo X Juliet- Don't mind the bloggers bitching about it. Sure there's some silly stuff, but the reimagining of Romeo and Juliet is beautiful and captivating. We know how it will end, but we still want to s...

Full con report will be here soon, Although my lack of both comics and fanart from since about finals week makes me sad, I may also go for a con report comic, or something. Maybe a collaboration?

Yep, only a few days left of school. One more final and a couple more assignments are all that stand between me and...well, a summer of work and saving for next school year. The vicious cycle continues!

Currently my Pokemon Diamond'ing is filling my free time with epic battles and delightful escapades. This has also led to me trying to do Pokemon fanart again and wish I had enough drawing ability to make a Pokefan comic. XD
Such dreams always accompany a new Pokemon game, though, and the results are usually frustration and ultimately failure. It'd be fun to at least finish up a pic of my girl in the game, though. Haha. The new outfits look pretty good, really. For girls. Hat!

Needed to finish up the Naruto fanarts I have lying around, too. Then maybe I can finally start drawing the girls in their new outfits some more. You know, being current and all with both the anime and manga. I guess I've got til next January, though, when the dub catches up manga-wise. It'd be pretty sad if it took me so long, though. XD

Um, what else...ACEN is soon. I need to get my Sanji costume together or else I will be FAILURE. I also need a few bags of dum dums, I think.

Well, everyone work hard for the final stretch. Whoo! Summer's full of work, too, but at least you make more than you do during the school year.

So, yeah...got Pokemon Diamond. BECAUSE I AM A POKEWHORE.

The graphics have this pseudo-3d cute thing going on. Really nice. Of course, the Pokemon themselves are still sprites in battle...but there's so many random little touches everywhere else you don't really care.
Like, you get to draw a signature for your trainer ID, so I made a little chibi scowling followed by the name of my girl.
Yeah, I made a girl for my character, named her Morose.
Seriously, the guy looks like an idiot in a beret. At least playing the girl you can have him as a worthless adversary. No respect for the man at all.
You also get to name another rival too, for whatever reason. I named mine Chazz, so I can detest him as a snobby rich-kid. I'm not sure why I wanted to do that, though...

But yeah, the game is fun and there's all sorts of online crap I wanna try out. Really though, the next pokemon game just need to introduce some kind of character model customization or something. Everyone you see online will either be a clone or a moron in a beret. Seriously, it can't be that hard.

And like everytime a new Pokemon game comes out, I totally want to start making comics and writing fanfics about Pokemon now. Curse my love of the Pokes!

I hope it makes you giggle.

I didn't really have time, but I have a final tomorrow (er, today I mean) and I can't cram no more. Cautious optimism for me!

Although I am watching lots of good anime, and dearly wish I had the willpower to blog about it, I will say that I downloaded the Romeo x Juliet on a whim, since I'm a sucker for the classics, and it's pretty impressive so far. One of the reasons that Count of Monte Cristo thing sucked was because it looked like FAILURE. Luckily, this one looks beautiful and there's plenty of exciting differences between the versions already. For example, Juliet kicks ass.

Why is it so delightful to experience something when we know how it will end?

Well, although the stuff I'm watching from the winter season *cough*Hidamari Sketch*cough* and...well, that was about it, actually, since most of the other shows had their sub groups apparently explode. Although Hidamari Sketch is still being subbed, and I await each release most expectantly, the spring season has begun!

So I will pretend I have a wicked cool anime blog and tell you all about what's cool to watch.

1. Hayate no Gotoku, also known as Hayate, the combat butler.
--The show has some great humor, plenty of breaking the 4th wall/parodies, as well as a likable cast. Granted, all we've really seen so far is Hayate, the powerful young man who never seems to catch a break, Nagi, the tiny girl who thinks Hayate loves her due to his botched kidnap attempt, Maria the maid...possibly the only intelligent character, and of course, Santa Claus as a vile, evil man. It's weird, hilarious, and probably touching (in some way or another) by the end. Watch, it's funny!

2. Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann.
--Yeah yeah, same Gainax weirdness, but this thing is just so similar to FLCL in style and presentation that you just want to giggle while you watch. It doesn't have the music to elevate to FLCL status, but it's an enjoyable little ride. Simon is the unsure hero thrust into control of a crazy mecha (yeah, the robots are pretty retarded in here, ah well) and we'll probably get to watch him grow into his role of kickassery, so that's always fun. We've got Kamina, the crazy-ass swordsman/older brother idiot, and Yoko, the adorable be-swimsuited gal with a giant-ass gun rounding out the group. Kamina is lovably over-the-top and Yoko comes across as a fun/smexy, but still badass monster hunter. They aren't exactly "new" characters, (although Yoko not flipping out anime-girl style when he lands on her at the end, makes her possibly one of the first anime females to wear a skimpy outfit and not kill a guy for accidentedly touching her, I respect that, accidents happen, ya know?) but they are each distinct and a lot of fun. Watch this, too! It looks cool.

3. Nagasarete_Airantou
--Ummm, kinda grabbed this one on a whim. Ninja girls on an island where a boy washes ashore and finds out that he's the ONLY boy on the island. Needless to say, the girls start fighting over him. Stupid hentai/harem setup, although if they explain how this island has survived for generations without boys, I would be impressed, and the girls are the usual boring lot of 1. Girl who likes him for some reason and is very friendly/cool 2. Fiesty little girl 3. Busty bitchy girl 4. Tomboy 5. One with glasses who has no personality cuz people with glasses are like that or something.
Or close to that, anyway. It's mixed up a bit, like the one girl with, I think, narcolepsy/boredom, and the hyperactive evil one, but they are still all pretty similar to stuff you've seen before. That being said, they are cute ninja girls and that is a plus. I want to say this rips of Himawari, but Himawari was boring, so if this rips that off...I guess I won't really end up caring. But yeah, the main guy actually tries to leave...he has some thoughts in his head! No, not that one, his brain, I mean! He hates people telling him things are impossible, so he's actually a rather...well, he has some personality. Yay. Will the show still probably suck? Yeah, but whatever. Ninja girls.

Everything else
Naruto: Hey, we finally get a new episode this week. Yay.

One Piece: We might get a new episode this week. Yay.

Death Note: Death Note hasn't failed us yet. Everyone loves Death Note, because it's awesome.

Hidamari Sketch: Watch this. It's a laid back story about some art major girls in high school. The unique style and the comedy are the best of the winter season and we're not even subbed halfway, yet. It's amazing, watch it.

Kekkaishi: I still kind of watch this. It's shounen and I hate to drop it, but at the same time...it loves to be boring.

Gakuen Alice: Harry Potter without the destiny. Kids go to a school where they learn to control their "Alice," a unique power each of them has. Mikan has the trouble of Harry with fitting in and not getting in trouble as a "nobody" among the elite of the academy, but she's without some huge importance and destiny. To that end, she accomplishes much and strives ahead simply on her merits of being one among many, someone worthy to hold an Alice. It's mostly for laughs, but it has some heart.

Lucky Star: Don't know a damn thing about it, other than the fact that the opening has a bunch of crazy dance, much like Haruhi's ending. Hell, that'll make me watch an episode, at least.

All the main chars did variations of the truly catchy and truly popular Hare Hare Yukai. Although Haruhi's is delightful, and Yuki's is silky smooth, and Mikuru's is freak-out pitchy in some places, and Kyon's is bluesy and awesome, and Kyon's little sister's is creepy and sugary, and the other three I didn't care to listen to, Tsuruya's is THE BEST. Why? Because she does her characteristic "nyos" and I think a "Megas" or two during the song.

If I find this at a con I will freak out and buy it. Here's hoping people go for their Haruhi, Yuki, and Mikuru lust before the Fang-tan.

My, everyone had such kind words for poor Kirb, the plushie sleeping Kirby I got way back when at ACEN. After losing him yesterday I retraced my steps in a vain effort to find him. But you know, you're all like "Well, when did I last see him? It might've been yesterday, maybe..." Since you're just SO used to seeing him there on your backpack that he's kind of taken for granted until you're leaving class and suddenly he's NOT THERE.

Regardless, after 24 hours I did not have much hope of finding him. And yet, today when I went to lab I found the little guy lying in the street along the curb, just narrowly missed by a car's tire that was parked there. We're not talkin' dirty curb, either, he was the same as ever, but somehow he had migrated ACROSS the street...since yesterday I had walked on the other side of the street by the CS building. Oh Kirb, how the hell did you cross the street and survive an entire day on your own without being picked up by a fangirl, kicked by a frat boy, or eaten by some wandering dog?

He even still had the chain through his hat, broken, the culprit, but otherwise as fine and dandy as ever. He probably just somehow rolled across the street by the wind, or something, but if cartoons have taught me anything, his journey probably lasted hundreds of miles before finally ending up back ALMOST where he started.

I will admit, when I found him in the street I was, and I quote, "HOLY CRAP, KIRB!!!!!!!!!" whereupon I picked up my poor puff and freaked out. Luckily there were not too many witnesses to my spectacle.

Haha, this is the weird stuff that life is made of. I think Kirb deserves a nice long rest next to Ninja Azumarill on my shelf. XD
Ooh, I should take a pic of my shelf anyways at some point. All the cool kids seem to be doing it.
I do not know how or where, but perhaps he shall find a new home. My love for the pink puff was displayed to the world upon my backpack, hopefully he will find as much love wherever he ends up now.

New fanart up. Naruto 347 was too good to pass up, so I took a break from massive amounts of work to whip something up. Oh Sakura, Kishimoto knew just the thing to make fangirls finally love you. No more Sakura haters!

Even though it was a quick draw, and Tenten, Ino, and Hinata were only from behind, it was fun drawing the new outfits (what little I got to, heh.) I've still got some fanarts to finish up, but after I get the ones done I've had sitting around, I think I'll finally have to migrate into the future. Hell, the anime finally made it there, so should I.

Tenten's new outfit is so much cooler looking. Her hair is also a bit longer, rockin' the boy-do, so-to-speak, and it's as fun to draw as it is adorable.

Hinata sadly no longer has her short hair, or her sweet hooide, but the soft colors of her new jacket are quite nice. She's still Hinata, anyway, so I figure I better get used to drawing her.

Ino's not too different, although her new outfit is way more retarded than the old one. No more soft folds and random wraps, haha. Oh well, I'll just replace her with Temari or something.

I hadn't even draw these new outfits or hairdos and yet here I am showing them from behind! I think it worked out, though, and now I can't wait to actually try them out in a full pic. Someday, I gotta finish the other ones first. If they were all suddenly in the future, it'd be like breaking my own continuity, dammit.

Hmm, Sakura vs. Hinata nosebleed-off...

I'll just have to make a mental note of it.

God I love Indiana weather.

There are two kinds of college kids flitting about the streets: tilters and the wired.

Tilters can be easily identified from their comically crooked heads, their necks nestling devices ranging from remote-sized to tiny palmers upon their ears. Their worldview is skewed at a near constant 45 degrees, perhaps allowing them a unique outlook on events around them, but ultimately causing neck spasms along with the uncertainty of brain cancer. You will also find them to be quite loud, often allowing you unfettered access to one side of their conversation and a clear window into their darkest, most intimate thoughts and reflections.

The wired are at once both completely isolated from the world and yet a sponge, soaking in all things. Harder to spot than the tilters, they are identified by tiny buds, rounded disks, or mighty muffs upon their ears (sometimes hidden by hoods, hats, and hair) and a very blasé regard for their surroundings. Almost oblivious to sounds and events around them, they are able to observe a mute world, punctuated by the rhythms pounding through their eardrums. Weaving a personal soundtrack to their own existence, their path through this world is merely that of an observer, save for periodic bouts of spontaneous dance or song, and one of quiet dignity on the outside, with a passionate bass beating within.

And yet, we all still walk to school, rain or shine.

Naruto: Shippuuden is finally out, and it is good to be a Naruto anime fan again.

The new series just looks great, here's hoping they keep it up. The starting is like Japanese ska/rap or something, haha, and it has some really sweet animated parts. The ending also has some really inspired SD bits that would make any Naruto scribblers proud. They're taking their time with the story, which is good since the manga itself kinda slowed for a while, but they're also keeping in all the humor bits so you don't get bored. Unlike Sakura, you can only marvel at Naruto being a man for so long.

So yeah, finally Naruto will jump back up to its place beside One Piece as the new episode you wait for each week. It's been long enough.

Thanks to snow recess I have a comic up! It's Valentine's Day and that means bitter musings and misgivings. I just focused it into a jolly little comic, which honestly, is much prettier than a block of text. 50/50 on whether or not you love this holiday or you hate everyone else who loves this holiday. Just go with the flow, people. Like hell lovers need a "special day" to profess their gooey feelings. They get 364 days of that, like they need one more. Meanwhile, the rest of us get 364 days of mild disappointment, followed by one big day for it. Thanks, Hallmark.

But really, I suppose we've all been there sometime or another, or wish we were, anyway. Hate the holiday, not the happy people? Maybe.

And national cheapest candy ever day tomorrow. Yay for everyone.
Along with that I hit 1000 hits at some point. Yay me. That also needs a picture and since I have the idea already it'll most definitly happen. Hopefully soon, or soonish, I suppose. Sadly, video games = less time spent on writing for classes = less time spent writing for the hell of it = more time musing on writing and thinking up story ideas that honestly should be left to a less hectic time.

French, of course, for "The semestre prochain."

Back at college after working two jobs over break. What the hell was I thinking, right? Well, so long as book costs don't devour my flesh I might have some left over, hahaha.

My schedule is pretty awesome this semester, no class on Friday! Sure it's just because my lazy-ass teachers only want to work two days out of the week, but I shall gladly reap the benefits. Lots of power hours, but condensed! I have a journalism class, a tech writing class, and a fiction writing class. I'll probably explode from the work later on when I have three projects due at once, but dayamn am I excited about it. Writing! Whoo!

Of course, DA is really needing some love. I was scanner-less over break, so first order of business is to finish up the stuff I have left to clean and color.

Tenten and Anna for

New "The Marble Orchard" comic. Dangit!

More chibi naruto gals.

Something that isn't Naruto, I suppose. XD

I like "holiday," it's a good word. Perhaps I refer to Christmas or one of the other festive events around December. Perhaps I refer to the brief respite from college that occurs between semesters. Either way, "holiday" is the way to go.

Versatility. Yes.

This break I've had the luck to be working two jobs. There was some sarcasm, there, I hope you saw it. Money is good for the poor college student, though, so I will take my paychecks gladly. Shopping for presents for family and friends is finally finished, so I am fortunate for that. Fantastic.

All is not perfect, I must say, but I am enjoying my holiday fairly well. I have animal crossing wild world to meander with, and my brilliant friends and I have been logging quite a few hours on "the Wii" so the hours spent away from my jobs is quite blissful.

Ye gods, though, it's already Saturday! How time flies when you're having fun.

Happy holiday to all. Whether you get just one or two days off or a whole month to fuck around, it's best to enjoy it. X3

It was okay. Not great, not horrible, but okay. My dearly loved friends from back home are always a pleasure, of course, but a little bit of turmoil always seems to crop up.

Ah well, I was lucky enough to help make Thanksgiving dinner and put up decorations so the holidays are definitly in full-swing.

We went searching for a Wii. We failed, sorta. Ah well, apparently this upcoming weekend will involve a party and a Wii. Whee!

I sadly did not art at all during break...but I also did very little homework, so it all kind of balances out in a big ole' batch of failure. XD Projects are ending this week, next week, and then finals week (which I hear may also involve finals) so with any luck I can at least finish a comic or something to keep my sanity.

Hmmm...I have about 500 visits. Hinata's Problem, my much-loved fanart of Hinata spraying blood out of her nose has 1500 hits currently. I guess the kids don't have time to visit after I make them laugh or something. *shakes fist*

Hahaha, I still need to get around to drawing another blood-spraying chibi and see if people love it as well. If they do, though, I think I will be scared.

Well I'm still getting around to posting those pics from Springvale, the most amazing cemetery I have ever had the pleasure of visiting. Gimme a camera and I could spend a day there, although I've got the whole autumn colors + gray sky atmosphere down, so maybe winter and spring will facilitate my return.

I swear, it's ALWAYS overcast when I go to a cemetery. It makes for a nice backdrop, really, but it's getting old, world. It's getting old. *shakes fist at sky*

Final projects are kicking into high gear, so my creativity is a bit tapped. STILL, I should hopefully come up with a comic for tomorrow and keep up my badass streak that's been fairly consistent this semester. Granted it's my own little brand of escapism, since business writing classes have rather drained me of my ability to tolerate Word for long periods of time (sorry, my precious fictions!) and my willpower has wavered somewhere between cautious optimism and pessimistic acceptance this semester.

I need more focus, really. I need to "get it together" quite a bit. The comic tends to help a bit, but I just need more time for focused writing and less random idea here and there in a notebook. We'll see how that goes. These final projects are rather insistent on their need for attention, so luckily I will be able to "practice" per se on getting my focus back with my final grades riding on it.

Lovely, I work well under pressure, usually.

Writing = love, but so many times in life we find ourselves loving without being loved in return. I shall hope my muse is in a good mood this week. XD
