In other news, I got all my wisdom teeth removed, and am now in recovery! It's really not so bad. I'm no longer a chipmunk, I'm not in pain, I'm really not very miserable, and I get to eat a lot of ice cream and pudding!

I'm sick of all the photos I've been putting up recently. I need drawings or paintings or something, soooooo I'm doing papier mache again. One of which will not be going online until either after August sixteenth (for reasons that can only be guessed at, and most probably guessed correctly at) or after I see the person it's for sometime around that date.

The ones that I can tell you about are under way! I've got:
- A birthday present for a friend of mine: a blue monkey and an orange penguin.
- A spider, which may or may not be a birthday present for another friend. (Depending on how much I want it when it's done. >_> )

Annnd I want you guys to tell me what else to make. Sort of like commissions, except you only actually get to have the real thing if I know you! So. This is your chance. Tell me what to make, and I may or may not make it. No getting snippy if I get bored of papier mache and don't make your idea. One of you already has one coming, hence the not putting it online or telling anything about what it is. It wouldn't be as exciting if I told you what it was.

Dear Sir/ Madam/ Doctor/ Advisor-Type-Person,

All my life, I've only ever wanted to be four things 'when I grow up,' only three of which are at all plausible. My first career goal was to be a fire truck. Not a fireman, but a fire truck. When that didn't work out so well, I moved on to more human-oriented jobs like acting and zoology. I decided zoologist was the way to go, mostly because I'd rather be a starving zoologist playing with animals than a starving actress dealing with managers and whatnot. I collected as many pets as my parents would allow (what they allowed happened to be a dozen fish, two hermit crabs, two parakeets, and a guinea pig), but always wanted more. In school, for every 'how-to' book report, I'd do 'How to Care for [insert animal here],' and for every non-fiction or biographical report, I'd do somebody like Jane Goodall, Dian Fossey or Eugenie Clark. I think Eugenie Clark was the first time I realized that marine biology is more my thing. Eugenie Clark, The Shark Lady. I mean, how cool is that? I wanna be The Shark Lady. Maybe The Turtle Lady.
So, a while back, I decided I would search for a college somewhere in [the area] with a marine biology major. It wasn't easy. In a state like [mine], everything involving water is all about the crabs. But I don't want to do crab farming, so I narrowed the search to schools with a good bio major with the ability to alter the major a bit to be marine-focused. That's when I found [College]. I am totally and utterly in love with you guys' wet lab, by the by. Best thing ever.
Another thing I was looking for in a school is if they would require me to dissect any animals. It's not that I'm some girly-girl who freaks out at gross sticky smelly things, I don't even mind the sight of blood, I just can't stand the idea of killing this poor defenseless creature just so a few dorky teenagers can slice them open to see inside. There are plenty of computer programs that can simulate these things, why kill hundreds and thousands of the poor little things when you could've just killed one and made a computer program? It doesn't really make sense to me. [College] was one of the few schools who told me that they would be plenty willing to work with me on this matter.
In my search for schools who don't require dissection for bio majors, I e-mailed a large amount of biology department heads. Some were nice and just said 'Sorry, you would have to do dissection,' or 'No, we don't require dissection,' but there was one school (whom I shall not name) that said something along the lines of 'Of course we require dissection for our biology majors, you moron, what kind of bio major are you that you can't even dissect something?! Good luck finding a school, other than us, we don't want the likes of you here!' Now, granted, I may be exaggerating a little, but that was what I read from their e-mail. [College] was much nicer. The biology department head at [College] joked with me and was very nice about the whole thing.
The environment at [College] is just all-around nicer than many other colleges. When I went to visit, everyone I met was very kind and friendly. I would just prefer not to be ponded. Do you suppose if I were to not let anybody know my birthday I would be free from it, or just ponded at random intervals to be sure they got me? But I guess I shouldn't care too much about getting thrown into the pond, I am trying to be a marine biologist, after all.
Speaking of being a marine biologist, I've already jumped on that one a bit. Last summer I went to Wassaw Island off the coast of Savannah, Georgia for a week to study loggerhead sea turtles (Caretta caretta) in their nesting season with the Caretta Research Project (CRP). I went through Friends of the National Zoo (FONZ) with a group of 'Eco-Explorers.' We were five teens and a FONZ chaperone, and it was amazing. We stayed up all night studying the turtles on the beach, moving nests if we had to, measuring the turtles, taking blood samples... I could do that for the rest of my life and never regret it for a moment.
Since I went with FONZ, they asked that each of us teen-folk to a project relating somehow to the island or the turtles. I did my project on the myth and the reality of 'A World on a Turtle's Back.' I do that sometimes. Not saying 'as you wish' meaning 'I love you,' but stuff like that.
Like, I think I do have certain little things that mean 'I love you,' I just can't quite put my finger on them either. I kinda know when I'm saying it, but there's not much to be done about it.
I don't even think it's a fear to actually say it cause it's not to people who don't know I love them, or something like that...
