Started on the Sub urban website, I'm working on a lot of modeling in ZBrush this time round. So at the moment I'm just brushing up on the ZBrush. I think the website will be ten times better than the last considering that I know have a drawing tablet (Wacom Intuos 3 9 x 12 inch). Its going to be a really cool website.

If anyone is into ZBrush or digital arts, I recommened Gnomonology I think they probably have some of the best tutorials around for beginnings all the way to advance levels. Its really good to have atleast one of these titles on hand for referencing while you're getting a job done

I got the DXD portfolio website update complete and up I also managed to finish the video player component which I'll be uploading in the next few days.

Other work:
Basically I've got Flash Republics website to put together, Sub urbans website which I'm currently busy with now, A friend of yours website which I'm waiting for response on from LA, Flash Republic visuals for next month, another potentially awesome and well paying website job in November and finally a potential job for Adidas FIFA 2010 involving a lot of 3d work

This all means that I'm on point to get things complete before the Loerie awards which are only 9 days away. So some tought work for a week to go and then its a col party and relaxing time in Cape Town.

While it looks the same as the BXD Portfolio website I uploaded last month its actually got way more functionality and userability features. Apart from that I've managed to get a lot of other work done but still far behind what I'm suppose to have done by September, at the moment Sub urbans website has been sidelined until the company handling the new Sub urban branding can complete the new Sub urban brand. So we'll be pushing to get an extension on this cause we need well over one month to get it up and running.

Since I've managed to get that other component complete I'm now continuing with one I've been meaning to finish for awhile now. A Video player component and after that an MP3 Player component, I'm 90% done with the video player and about 50% done with the mp3 player. So I think I'm on track to getting things done before the Loerie awards in September.

) I've got some awesome holidays coming up! 5 days at the Loeries in Cape Town in September! Skiing trip to Italy in January 2010! 2 weeks in Mozambique, Tanzania, Serengeti, Malawi, Zambia and Botswana in October and September 2010!

Almost have all the capital together to get the first (of many) passive income ventures up and running which is really cool. The hard work is all finally paying off.

I have a list of things I need to get done before Loeries:

Rockstar wordpress designer book (finished this 2 days ago, awesome read!)

Thematic (Another cool resource Brad found to make using Wordpress easier)

Personal portfolio and blog (I managed to get the functionality done and a temporary design in place)

Actionscript 3 (moving through this slowly)

So yeah theres a lot to get done but its all pretty straight forward and I can get through all of it in the amount of time I have before the Loeries

The Flashden work is also pretty awesome, after uploading the BXD Portfolio website I can see Flashden as been a valuable revenue stream and I'd recommend it to any Flash developers and designers

So yeah I'm advocating late nights, tea, apples (yum), exercise and passive living until I get everything on track.

I don't know if I mentioned it in an earlier journal post (its been awhile and I really can't remember my journal posts here) but I'm also busy with a personal website which will be up and running before the end of this year. Since I'm doing that I'll probably be revamping my Deviant art portfolio a touch, removing some work and adding other work.... I'll be pretty critical of my stuff though so chances are a lot of it will be coming down. It all comes down to what I consider was poorly created or not.

Personal projects are mainly passive income ventures, I'm working on a high fashion label company with a friend where I'll be getting a percentage on the clothing sold in exchange for developing the brand identity. I'll also be creating flash components in both AS 2 and AS 3 and working on some passive income concepts which are highly personalised. I'll consider putting this stuff on Dev art at some point.

Only have 1 and a half weeks of client work left and after that its all the above mentions plus the final Kicksaints newsletter

I ordered two laptops from the States just recently before this politic unrest started, little did I know that the Rand would weaken against the Dollar but anyways whats done is done. Besides that though I'm happy with the purchase, it still worked out cheaper getting these systems directly from the US and paying VAT when they come into the country. At US$3000 per laptop you're looking at a monster performance desktop replacement which is precisely what I wanted.

Spec:
Sager Notebook NP9262 with 17 inch display
Intel Quad core Q6600 2.40ghz
2 x 2gb DDR2 800mhz dual channel memory
2 x 200gb 7200 RPM SATA (Raid 0)
1 x Geforce 9800 GT 512mb

We're still getting desktop workstations next month though and after that we'll be looking to start a property portfolio and other investments. Anyways things are a little crazy at the moment, works going good, got some great new clients now which is working out insanely nicely. Things are looking great financially as well as creatively, I actually managed to sit down and start coming up with some cool creative concepts for these new clients which is really great and the new pages in my journal are looking cool.

Anyways back to the grind and possibly sitting in the sun for awhile. Thank god summers on its way back!

We returned to Johannesburg with numerous calls for work. All the work we have to do in the space of 1 or 2 weeks is crazy. At the moment we have:
3 Websites - Two flash website and CSS website. Both driven by databases.
1 Application skin - This project is huge! Its gonna take a long time to put it together
1 Animation - The SABC tour animation is still on our plate. We're waiting on a voice over so we can continue.
1 Flash game - This one is almost done after many late nights getting it sorted.
Roughly 6 static web design templates - They just keep coming in

Sleepless nights, 2 minute noodles and caffeine for the next two weeks.

Everyones loving the new Kicksaints website, I'm very proud of all the work we've done up until now. Only more great work and projects to come.

I'm busy working on this SABC brief now, we've opted to make it something we can add to our portfolio, which was what we should be doing for everything we create. Sometimes time constraints screw you over. This job is due at the end of this week so I'm up at 3am busy starting the animation. Its really looking awesome and I'm finally getting some more video editing work done rather than flash development which is refreshing.

Working in After effects (AE) with 3d layered objects is a bit strange, I'm so used to the 3d Studio max and Maya interfaces so I first started with 3d in AE by making 4 view ports, now I'm down to 2 view ports which is working better. Its nice getting a camera setup on a scene in AE and setting the Depth of field.

Enough with the geek talk! So yeah things are great, SABC is going good we have atleast 4 other proposals coming in very soon. I guess I'll be kissing my life good bye for acouple of weeks, which isn't too bad since I'll be making loads of money. Maybe I'll buy a BMW 330ci convertible and an apartment. Bleh! who knows

Our Kicksaints website is pretty much complete now, still haven't uploaded it. We need to sort out a couple of things like a newsletter email subscription box, a launch email, a facebook group and application (Yes we want all the facialbookers to have some Kicksaints magic on their profile pages

) and the news articles we've written need some anchors to link them to the separate image posts.

Brads busy with our Kicktonic website for the Plutonic and Kicksaints initiative. The branding for Kicktonic looks so awesome and its definitely going to be something to be proud of onces its up and running.

We're looking to buy a dedicated hosting box from Mediatemple (mt) in the States and sell hosting to a select view clients that we service then maybe once its properly setup we might sell hosting just buy itself as some Kicksaints hosting company name which is yet to be decided. Mediatemple are a huge hosting company that provide hosting for most new media and advertising websites so its only right that we align ourselves with a great brand like that.

Some more good news about Sub urban, apart from the two features on Gouw.nu and [link], the website has now been featured in a Japanese web magazine at [link] I can't quite make out what they said since its all in Japanese but its always great to be noticed. It was also featured on another design website called Crossmind.net.

Sub urban has had a couple nice notices, firstly it was on Adobekit and secondly it was on Gouw.nu (Graphic Orgasm Ultimate Webportal). Its a pity we missed the deadline for the Loerie awards I'm pretty sure it could have won something. Ah well at least I know that whatever I create next I'll better what I've done before and I'm getting into Actionscript 3 now which is not so daunting as I initially expected.

Got some great clients coming soon, with the launch of our new brand only weeks away things are getting a bit hectic. Its nice when all you're work is up to date and you're waiting on clients. These last couple of days we've done so much internal work that we needed to get finished, mainly the branding.

We've decided to go for the Loeries weekend but stay a week longer in Margate at the house and work from there. If you ask me thats a brilliant idea, to reflect on the year so far, relax and possibly come up with some great ideas for where we're heading.

Busy working on components to streamline future projects and waiting for the SABC to get the content together for their online and offline interactive tour brief that we're going to start working on.

Met with Hollard insurance last week Thursday (after been shortlisted) to pitch for the Hollard South Africa and Australia account. I think the presentation went well, will have to wait and see what comes out of that.

Got a brief coming our way from Shell (The oil company), not 100% sure what it is yet but we'll see.

Got another small job to work on for this week which is paying a lot for such a small amount of work.

The new Kicksaints branding is getting there slowly. All the work at the moment slows down internal operations, however we're getting some nice portfolio work and our website is going to look fantastic.

On a personal note I had some guy approach me to be the Director of Photography for his movie, I haven't read the script yet but I'm keen to work on a film. The guy was pretty intense about the project and even had a Hollywood script writer give him some critical feedback on the script. Apparently he also has a couple well known South African actors keen to be apart of the project.

Other than that its damn cold and I hate winter so when the time comes that I have enough money I'll migrate to which ever hemisphere is warmer getting away from this cold weather.

Loeries are coming up sometime soon, which means lots of sun, surf, photography, partying, beautiful girls, VIP bars and happiness. This years Loeries should be awesome and I can't wait to get alittle stress reduction by the sea.

Got so many changes and additions to this Sub urban website, the online packaging of the site worries me. Its abit big at the moment and I feel the online presentation can be better so I'm looking into different ways of getting it to look extremely good and run faster. Its pretty tough when the main animation of the site is video and the music the client wants is 8 minutes long, but I'm a designer and I'm supposed to be pulling me hair out

New Kicksaints branding is slowly but surely getting there, its taking awhile because of all the work we have but its all good. The work we're getting is great for the company portfolio aswell as personal portfolios.

As for moving overseas, I don't know where yet maybe anyone reading this can give me an idea:

The Loerie awards was great! The best part about the Loerie awards is that you know everyone thats in the industry so its really just a huge party with all your friends and on the plus side I got a nice tan. I seriously think everyone in Johannesburg and in Cape Town should head to Durban in winter, its probably 15 degrees during the night at the minimum there. Beautiful weather and a great atmosphere, I really needed a great holiday away from Johannesburg.

Besides the big web development, the Sub urban website has been submitted into the US Creativity awards. Busy with some visuals for an MTV Base/MTN/Africa cup of nations concert in Ghana featuring Shaggy and some other artists. After this I'm going to take a break for a bit and work on playing guitar plus learning something else new and different.

I haven't submitted any work in awhile, I actually have tons of stuff to submit. I'm waiting for Flash Republic to schedule a meeting so I can figure out what visuals need to be done for their new cd. After that I'll start uploading stuff again.

The Virgin money thing was cool, I met alot of cool people even hit on Michelle Maclein (who surprisingly is unbelievably hot for her age). I didn't recognise her at first until she greeted me, she dyed her hair black and cut it really short. Looks very hawt anyways.... I left for the coast at 4am the next morning which means I didn't sleep lol. It was an interesting drive down to say the least.

Had alot of fun down at the coast, mostly sleeping on the beach and getting a tan or body surfing. Played alot of beach soccer and Frisbie heh. Was very cool, did way too much drinking. Feel good now though, anyways got lots of stuff to sort out and work to get done. Hope everyone has been doing great and I hope the lighties who were on school break had fun.

Its official Arno Carstens is gay, he tryed to kiss my friend Brad, Brad avoided the full on lips impact and managed to get the kiss landing on his neck. On top of that he kept rubbing my face

Well we managed to get away from him (that was quite scary to say the least). Craig and Ryan were so drunk and in a hectic party mood and they were everywhere. I even saw Joost van der Westhuizen getting drunk with acouple people.

Met alot of other beautiful girls and just partied with them, alcohol was free in the VIP section, but all they had was Millers which I find very hard to get drunk on. On top of that it tastes so watered down, I eventually just switched to redbull and vodka

All in all a great evening, I'll be on the detox for awhile been partying for alittle too long. I've been drunk every night sice wednesday. But that will probably only last 2 days or so. The German school beerfest is next week.... can't miss that....

My 6 weird habits/things ...
1: I'm very hard on myself, alot of people say thats a bad habit but I kinda like it

It makes me work harder at things. However sometimes it works against me.

2: I like pulling my bottom lip. Strange? yes very strange Don't know why I do it but I always do it.

3: I have to do something with my hands all the time. For instance if I'm at some place drinking a beer I'll start tearing the labels off and rolling them up. Guess this is my alternative to smoking.

4: I have Attention Deficiet Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), I have to talk to someone and if I'm not talking to someone I'm laughing about something. Usually mocking a funny accent or acting like a mad man.

5: I'm a very moody person. Don't have to explain that really.

We had to rush to the hospital from the braai cause my friends sister was shot in an attempted hi-jacking outside her place. Stayed at the hospital for 4 hours to find she had been shot 3 times in the neck, but she was ok and could be discharged from the hospital if she wanted.
She walked into the hospital after the attempted hi-jacking with 3 bullets in her neck. Tough girl....

Went back to the braai with friends, he just wanted to relax knowing she was ok and would go see her in the morning with his family again. Brad and I have been working really hard lately, I don't think I've had a proper night out drinking in a long time. All is good though, I've been learning 3D for quite a long time now, I've been learning it so long I'm actually thinking 3D now, always sizing things up breaking them down. I guess I could say the same about the interactive phase I went through. 3D is definately a long and hard concept to understand but I guess I'm making progress. I recently started learning 3DSMax and reading up about Zbrush, both are pretty powerful.

The Flash Republic music video is coming in soon, we've sent a proposal through to HP for some high spec machines for this music video. The catch is that HP needs to get exposure through the music video somehow, thats all fine we've going to brand some objects in the music video without devianting from the primary objective. We've also decided to make a "Making of the Music video" documetary which will show how HP has contributed more than anything else. The proposal was pretty thorough and it seems we only really have to go through 3 people for it.

Back to the 3D well the Flash Republic is the main reason I'm learning 3D so hardcore now. Our aim is to make a music video which challenges artists and concepts on an international level.

Other than that life is good.... relaxing..... my house is in abit of a state since we're doing some major renovations but I can't complain. Winter is just around the corner here and its already freezing at night. I need a heater, any donations welcome

Our website should be coming up in the next couple of months.
Its going to have four floating islands. Three of the islands will be for our individual sections. The idea is that we are the guardians of our islands, Brads island going to be a dark temple, Robs island going to be this very angelic illustrated temple and my island will be this cybertronic mechanical city. Its going to take us a long time to make it since we're so busy with client work at the moment. The fourth island will be the Kicksaints island, which we're still thinking of.

Alas this version of the website will only be available to boardband users, dial up users will have to go to the HTML page which we also plan to make.

For now however a little under construction image will be in place

I haven't submitted anything in awhile, not that I haven't done anything, its just that everything is motion at the moment and its way too big to upload. Anyways thats my speciality. Don't see much point to my devart page anyway its no real use to me.

Design Indaba is happening in Cape Town soon, any person interested in design and design ideals should go. My friend Brad will be down there exhibiting work etc... A couple months ago, while back at my house in Johannesburg. I was going to sleep at my usual time (normally in the early hours of the morning). I hadnt been under much stress at the time, and nothing was really on my mind. I felt rather tired and relaxed, that is usually a very rare thing. I felt peaceful, I was so happy that I was going to sleep with nothing on my mind, and it was quite satisfying.

I got into bed and remarkably as never before fell into a deep sleep. It was almost to good to be true, but what followed could seem so far from the truth, I cant even make it out myself.

Ive always admired dark art, Ive always had some sort of sadistic nature about myself, perhaps those who know me fairly well would understand. However sadistic I might be is also coupled with some eccentricity which gives me a weird twist at times.

When Im in my subconscious state I dont quite think, I visualize certain elements and this is followed by a seemingly endless string of visuals developing out of the first one. At one point in my deep sleep I started hearing sounds, well to be honest I wasnt sure if I was asleep at thins point, I cant actually say if I was or was not.

This screaming sound which started very softly grew louder and louder till eventually I had my eyes open and I was staring at my cupboard doors. It was pitch-black outside, with the moon light illuminating certain surfaces. Moon light crept through a small opening in my curtain and was shining on the cupboards which I was staring at. I could see little drops of rain running down the glass on the windows.

At this point the screaming sound was extremely loud, I was certain that if it were real everyone in the house could hear it. Instantly without warning the sound stopped and that that very moment, while staring at the light and rain drop shadows on the cupboard door, this shadow appeared and then disappeared. I instantly got up, covered in a cold sweat and turned to look at the opening in the curtains. It was windy outside, if what I saw was real, which I highly doubted at the time I wouldnt have gone outside on my balcony to look, but I did.

I was a little apprehensive at first but I got up and gathered my senses, approached the curtains. I opened the door and step outside, when you wake up with a cold sweat stepping outside is like jumping into a cold pool. I couldnt quite understand what I saw and heard.

Ive never had a strange experience quite like this before and Ive never been able to sit down and done something which I would consider dark art. At that exact moment where I saw that silhouette on the cupboard door is so vividly imprinted in my head. I would love to paint it, or do some mixed media art of it.
