So the way that this works is that the first ten people to comment here on this journal will get features in it. I will pick three of my favorites out of your gallery and display them here. The catch? You have to do the same thing hence the "chain" part. I can't wait to explore some galleries and show off some talent.

** Slots left available=10 **

Until next time,

I'm feeling a little unsure of where to go next with my works and whether or not I'm improving. I put that question into a poll and got an amazingly underwhelming response. Anyway I'm updating my journal and have discovered another code I don't get along with. (css) I had a beautiful race last weekend and didn't have the camera with me to get any shots. The race before I had the camera and didn't have time to pull it out without getting killed. We actually broached (turning over while going downwind) and swamped the cockpit and soaked a few of us including the skipper. We even almost lost an idle camera. It would have made for good pics if I hadn't needed both hands and a foot to keep from getting washed overboard. I have a few shots in mind to take it's just the going out and shooting them that needs doing. Please let me know what you think about my work so far and where it might go. I like feedback.

Until next time,

Had an eventful race last weekend. We where forced to fly all the sails we had on board as we kept tearing them. We tore a 15 foot hole in our big spinnaker and the spreader went through our 166 tech jib. So in one race with many quick sail changes we had all 5 sails up at some point. On the way back to the parking lot after the race I saw one of the best photo opportunities I've seen in a long time and of course I didn't have the camera. The owner and skipper of EZ, one of the boats in our class owns Omar Sails so he had his vehicle there. Background out of the way this was the shot: A green SUVan sits in a gravel parking lot. Across the back window is stenciled Omar Sail Lofting and Repair. Piled up behind this vehicle is about 7 sail-bags of varying colors. Excuse me while I go and continue kicking myself.

I am absolutely furious. I was just watching a thing on PBS about net neutrality and the way corporations are trying to control the Internet. Now I am not usually one to get involved preferring to sit back and watch but this needs to be heard. According to wikipedia: "The phrase Network Neutrality describes networks that don't favor some destinations over others, or classes of application (for example the World Wide Web) over others (such as online gaming or Voice over IP)." Simply put this means that I have just as much power on the Internet to post this as CNN or Fox has to post there news and that if you, my readers, like the quality of my news better you have the right to access this journal at the same speed as the news of the major networks. Now what is happening is that the telecommunication companies are over throwing network neutrality in Washington. The corporations that already control the telephone, radio, and television are politicking very hard right now to also gain control of the Internet. These are the same companies that charge you 40 plus dollars to get 200 channels on your TV that you would never have paid for in the first place just to get the 10 or 20 that you want. If they succeed, sites that want to have fast connections and quick access for all their customers will have to pay a toll, if you will, on the Internet highway. Those that can't pay the toll will have to settle for a slower connection. The little companies will suffer and never have a chance to grow. Check out these links to read more:
Save the Internet: [link]
Wikipedia: [link]
Google: [link]
Something must be done. I know that I only have a few watchers and I don't know how many of you actually read my journals but I'm hoping that somebody will pick this up and run with it. Please get the word out. Link to or re post this wherever it can be seen or research and post your own warnings. Get this heard and save the Internet.

Until next time

I have Manny stories from work some of which I will share here for those interested but very few pics since the camera I had with me was stolen. Just an update

I think I owe some explanation. I am teaching at Camp Sea Gull, a huge sailing camp here on the Neuse river in Arapahoe NC. It's a 24 Hour 7 days a week job with little time off and really crappy computers so up loads will be almost imposable. I will try my best to keep up with my watches but that will be hard. I'm really enjoying it here though and am thrilled that they have given me a the highest job on the sailing staff where I'm still actually sailing instead of just paperwork (some of which I do still have to do) even though I have never been on staff before or sailed the particular class of boat that I am teaching. My title is Lightning trainer (Lightning being the class of boat I am teaching) and I currently have 6 trainees assigned to me one of which I need to brag on. First of all it takes a camper a long time to get high enough ranks to even sign up for Lightning training, sometime several summers. However I have this one guy who got to training in one year last year and is now my trainee. He is an amazing sailor and picks up new things real quick. This morning he tackled sailing the boat by himself without a rudder (what you use to steer the boat(I took it out)). Now a Lightning is not a small boat nor is it simple. This guy was sailing a straight line and chasing motorboats in 15 minutes. The real kicker? He's 10 years old. Well my time off is almost up so I have to go.
It was a runny nose kind of day that started out at 50 degrees and ended in the low 40s. It was blowing 21 knots and we where holding steady at 40 degrees heal for most of the day. I didn't get the main out quick enough once and we went to almost 50. The first race we snagged the windward marks anchor line and drug it almost a mile before I had to go over the stern and cut it off the rudder. Skipper will have to call a diver to get what is left of it off. We got a DNS (did not start) for being over the starting line early in the second race and not restarting properly around the pin. In the third race I got my finger crushed when the main sheet was running out during a jibe and got wrapped around it. I have rope fibers melted into my Kevlar sailing gloves from holding it to slow its run. I calculated it out in the way back in that even with me holding on to it and slowing it down the main sheet was running through my hands at 24 feet per second every time we jibed. I had the camera with me but only got time for a few pics. I didn't want to take it out since the spray was really flying. I haven't looked but we'll see if I got anything.

Until next time.

My comp got sick yesterday. Very sick. I would have found it funny if it wasn't me. I mean come on, the computer techs computer won't work. It's like the vets dog having fleas and the mechanics car doesn't run. Anyway it wouldn't boot past post so I figured that it was just software issues. I built the thing with two hard drives for this reason so that I could store any files that I can't replace on the second hard drive making it so I could reformat it without loosing anything. So I reformatted my system drive and reinstalled windows and it still locked up. After bashing my head into the wall for a while I started the task of opening him up and doing hardware diagnostics. Long story short (too late huh?) found out it was my card reader. After removing it and re-reinstalling windows, blackbox and all the drivers etc. I'm up and running again. Still have a few pieces of hardware in static bags but that won't take long. I was planing on reformatting after the first of the year (your supposed to reformat every year btw) but would have liked to do it on my own terms instead of damage control. Oh well. Haven't had time for much art lately withe the holidays. Speaking of which, I had a good birthday/Christmas if busy. gave me a DS and my parents gave me tires for my car (don't laugh I needed them, and they are not cheep) and other gifts that I won't bore you with. Hope your holidays went well too and have a happy new year.

Until next time.

The water got to within 3 in of being in the house. All our windows leaked badly so we spent the night mopping sills. We would fill two five gallon buckets every hour with what was coming in. We lost some shingles of the roof down to the plywood and got some water in there also. I had to run out and tie down my Sunfish (my race boat) because it was starting to float away. We hadn't been expecting the water to rise as much as it did. In general this storm cought us slightly unprepared. Reminds me of my first hurricane, Andrew. We where living in the Everglades then and since that part of Florida hadn't had a direct hit in so long that people had gotten lax on the preparation. So Andrew wiped them out. We will not be cought off guard again. I got more pics from my window as the water was coming up (couldn't take the camera outside again without drowning it(or me)) and lots of the aftermath. Look for them in a bit. Thanks to the people who showed support. It really says something when you can be supportive to some one you've never met face to face. Thanks.

Not expecting too much damage but we're battening down the hatches anyway. If we loose power it won't be for long (North Carolina is so used to being hit. We stick out to catch any storm rolling up the coast.). I've been using my time between classes to take pics at the community collage here. I like the way they're coming out. Hmmm. Just looked out the window and the water is already over the sea wall. We still have 3 hours to high tide.
