I went to a homeshow today, which is somewhat like a con, but for businesses that are oriented in Newfoundland. anyway, Brogan and I were there and came upon a store, Abbyshot. For anyone interested in fandom GO VISIT THEIR WEBPAGE! OMG, they have awesome clothing there, based off of movies and anime. There was a coat from FMA, the Silent Bob jacket, the Matrix jackets, tons of stuff. If you are interested in getting quality goods, this is great. I tried on this awesome leather shrug. Squee! Loved it. Just gotta save up for it. Either that or Brogan will be getting it for me for christmas or something. But yeah, I think it would also be good for anyone going to cons, as there is a lot of anime stuff and I believe they do customs as well. Such awesome stuff

A couple of times I've mentioned that I might switch over to a new userid, something I feel more comfortable with. And just recently I settled on a new one.

You can now find me at ~Beollain Unfotunatley, Devart doesn't allow for special characteristics, it should have a ' over the 'o', and the 'a' as well. But, meh, I'm happy enough. It's the old gaelic spelling of my last name

. actually, it was "O'Beollain" but, I just shortened it. I'm much more comfortable with the new ID.

I'll keep this account open for another little while, perhaps for my less serious endeavors.

Huge dump of all the sketches and stuff that I've done since I updated last. I've really been trying to work on the figure, I have a couple of images downloaded to work on. Also, I just notices that the images from my classes last year are gone... I don't remember for sure if I took them down or not, but... meh. No biggie, I'll post again if I have to.

Speaking of which, I'm signed up for another class, only need one more person to join and it will go ahead, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I really do think I'm going to sack the Green Lady picture. maybe toss paint thinner over it and start over.

so that's pretty much all I've been up to artwise. some new brushes and that, but I also been to buy some white liquid gesso paint or something.

In Other News:

So I'm back to work now. 40 hours a week. ugh. HATE my job. Hate it. But if I don't do it, no monies, so it's a no win situation. On the plus side, I'm about 9 classes away from getting my BA so that's kind of exciting. Really scary, but kind of exciting. Not sure what I'm going to do once I graduate. I'll have to find a Grad school of course, but whether or not that will be immediate is questionable. apparently I don't have to have a PHd in order to practice Clinical Psych, but it's something I'd like to have anyway.

Aside from that, B is going to be moving in

I'm going to be posting some pictures we took, but he's in some of them, so I want to make sure he's ok with me posting his pic before I do that. But also excited about him moving in, about about 2 weeks or so.

So that's really all the news I have for now. hopefully I'll start updating on a more regular basis as well.

Appearance: about 5'7. Dark Blue eyes, waist length silver-blond hair usually left down, very pale. Wears fitted pants of soft black leather, Black fitted shirt as well, with a dark blue tinted breastplate that has silver workings over it. Midcalf flat heeled boots, small silver buckles. has a wrist band with sapphire color background and silver workings on right wrist. Most of this is never worn. Usually wears similar outfit in brown and tan, no silver buckles, but plain breastplate, covered in brown leather, no wrist band.
Weapon: long, slender double-edged sword. tempered material from her home, nearly impossible to break, silver plated. Handle has a guard that protects the hand, but allow for movement. extensions have blue gems. Also uses bow and arrow of willow and yew. Also a magic user.
Class: A swordweilder mainly. can also use bow and arrow and magic.
Personality: She's rather closed off from most people, and those that are close to her she tends to be rather protective over. She's a plane-jumper, and if very interested in the societies of other peoples. She's also very curious, which can get the better of her. Also being closed off is not something innate, but something she's developed. She's an animal/nature lover, has a disdain for disrespect and can have a violent temper, but tries to keep it under control.
History: At one point in her life, she was the heir to the throne of her land. She walked away from it, feeling incapable of being responsible for a nation in light of her actions when she was younger. Instead, she left it in the hands of a selected senate that had been chosen when her father was killed when she was a child and not yet eligible to take the throne. He died at a battle which she had stowed away to attend with. She has been taught magic since she was small and how to fight (by her choice, not her father's) Her primary interest was also other peoples cultures. Her interest in magic extended into her investigating other planes. When she found that other planes also had beings in them, this is where she turned when she went on her sojourn.

I know it's probably really weird to hear, but I'm considering doing commissions. NOT for artwork on paper. I'm fully aware that the skills just aren't there for that. But I was thinking about commissioning for the Christmas Bulbs like the ones I posted earlier.

They are hand-painted with acrylic, on glass bulbs, would be dated with the Year, have the name of the person they are to be given to if you like, also have something indicating that they are from Newfoundland (a stamp or little attached card of some sort.

I was also thinking of maybe providing the gift box as well (could send in down in that, safer for the bulb) but that depends on cost.

Anway, I was thinking about maybe.. 5$ US plus S&H?

oh yeah, the laptop?

Mine went kaput. Tuesday I went to B's to have it reformatted (which I've never done in the 3-4 years that I've owned her) but after the disk removed everything from the hard drive, it did not put anything back. So I was left with no working laptop. grrr. Sent it into Staples and was told 2 days later that the motherboard was shot. Interesting to know, however the comp was working fine 30 seconds before the disk went in (a little slow, but working at least). So now I need a new computer. I'm looking at an ACSR and a Toshiba. The last one was a Toshiba, that worked well. The one that I want tho is 1000 plus. sooo. I might just finance it. Right now I'm borrowing B's until I can get my own again.

And I still have the flu. GAH! I really should get the paper done, but it's so hard to concentrate. At least I have the intro done. And we do have an extension, but I have some small assignments that are due. blah, I'll get it. Just need to get my honors application in now as well.

:sigh: well my exams start next week I think, must check that out. But then I should be somewhat free

On the 22nd I took a class, I believed I mentioned it before.. not sure. Anyway, took a class that was provided by the 'Arts and Crafts' store Michael's. If anyone remembers Bob Ross, he was this very pleasant man who taught painting on PBS (well.. pbs for me.. dunno if it showed on other channels). So, the Bob Ross company holds classes and there were a couple available here. Origianly .. I just realized I've completly forgotten how to spell that word, anyone wants to correct me, feel free. I digress. I wanted to do one with Water first, because my feel for water just sucks giant monkey chunks. That one was booked, so I did one for a winter scene, and it came out amazing!! well.. amazing for me! I was so happy with it. The instructor drove me a little nuts, but she was nice. Just a little... impatient. In the meantime, I'm waiting for it to dry.

Comparing it to my 'Green Lady' painting, the older one simply sucks. I think I might take it down altogether. Don't know what I'm going to do with the original.

So, I can't wait to take more classes, but I have to save, cause they are a little expensive.

Also, I'll be posting a picture of the picture as soon as I can.

For some unknown reason, my firefox shortcut was deleted from my desktop, and when I went to open it from my most used, it was in 'safe mode' I tried to reset everything back to the way it was, it didn't work.

Normally, I wouldn't care, but I've lost all my bookmarks. I had a dozen of good sites and tutorials that i wanted to use, and now they're gone.

Craaaaaaptastic.

Anywho.

I've updated a bit of art today. My christmas bulbs (considering having them for commision/sale next year.. maybe) my Green Lady in progress still. And a watercolor that i'm working on. I'm also trying to learn Digital coloring with a tablet. That's going........ it's just going. Not good, not bad, just ... I need to practice still.

In any case, Next week I'll have a finished painting, as I'm taking another class where by the end you have your finished product. I think it will be in acrylic or oil, not sure. But, it's by the Bob Ross company. So more updates next week. I'm also practicing on human poses and faces. I haven't been able to draw anything from Andrew's collection since Sunshine on My Shoulders, but I do have some saved to my comp that I want to work on. It's just deciding if I want to view the off the comp, or print them out and post them up... suggestions are welcome if you think one way or the other is better. I also have a new book on human pose and anatomy for me to practice with. The style is much older, think the women in the 50's from the Superman comics, but still very good. Very detailed and step by step, good for learners.

But I just wanted to share a little something that I found encouraging

If you've look up, I'm still readying about Van Gogh. He is listed among the worlds's greatest artists. But in reading this book, I've seen something. He started his painting later in life, not when he was 'first able to hold a pencil' but in his 20's. Not only that, but he wasn't really considered very good in his time either. He learned from pictures, and had all the same insecurities that we all do when we started out. He barely made any money from his painting at all.

He was just like us. All of us. The beginners, and even those that aren't, and are just insecure.

I find that encouraging, because regardless, he pressed on, and look at his work now. He's looked at as one of the best painters in history.

I might write another journal later... hopefully, if I get another chance.

Hope everyone had a kickass holiday, I have so far! I was off for xmas eve, day, boxing day. The three biggies. I got funky boots and a book on Van Gogh, 2 disney movies and 3 new xbox games. A bunch of clothes, and, the biggest thing, an 'Artist Studio from my grandfather. This has a sturdy wooden easel (don't remember the style, but it isn't Field), 10 oil paints, 10 acrylics, 6 water colors, 4 brushes, and a canvas. Then we found that a main connecting peice was broken. Going to be returned and get a fixed one, but I was a little disappointed that I didn't get to bring it home today. But I was sooo excited to get it.

From B, I got earrings to match my pendant, and a Wacom Graphics tablet!!! eeeee!
It's been instsalled and I'm getting the hang of the pen, can't wait to install the programs and start testing it out

What else, what else. I haven't been able to do a lot of new art, I have a piece of gift art that I wanted to do for someone who mentioned she's spending Christmas alone. Will upload that shortly. Aside from that, I've painted up some christmas bulbs, I might upload a few shots of those too...

So, I'll start with the most important:

I've been accepted into the Majors Programme for Psychology!! This may seem kinda strange, cause it looks like most people here are trying for graphics arts, and the visual arts in general, so I might be kinda out of place being a psych major. But meh. I'm uber excited about it, I had sent in 3 applications, each one denied. I spoke with the department head this term and discussed how to get in, she said basically, if I work my butt off, I should be in by next year. She said I could try for October if I wanted, but it was unlikely (october requests are for the winter acceptance, only takes about 30-60 students that apply) Anyway, long story short, last weekend I recvd a letter confirming my acceptance into the Faculty for the Majors!!!! SO that was EXCELLENT news for me

Next: I've been wanting a graphics tablet for a little while now, because coloring in lead looks great... in real life. But I'm not putting in good scans, and since the comp that has the scanner on it is in a very hard to get to place (sister's room) I usually take the scan that looks the best on the scanner and send it to myself. Only then I'm stuck with what I have. After mentioning it to my boyfriend, he decided he wanted to get me one. Here, the only one we could find was 150$ can pls tax. On an Ebay store, we found one for much less, so now we're just waiting for it to come in!! I get it for christmas! *add excited girlish squeel/giggle here*

Finally: I haven't gotten a good mark in Math since high school. Good being 70 and above. Got my midterm back for my Statistics course (first math I've done since I finished Calculus.... 3 years ago?) 87!!!! wheeee!!!!

Now I only have 2 assignments and a mini midterm to worry about lol.

But yeah, just wanted to share my good news

Art wise, I have a few more photos that I want to post. As well, I did do a drawing from.. I believe it was Ben's collection of Male artisitic photos. Actually did it before I did the Xiro Myth work. I did to relax because midterm studying was making me astoundingly cranky. So hopefully I'll post those soon.

News of me:

Back in University and studying everyday. Kinda sucks cause it means I don't have the time or the money to do the art courses that I wanted to do. But I'm still practicing. I was able to do a drawing of one of the poses Andrew let me borrow.... or it might be Ben.. I saved a few that I wanted to try and just printed them so that I could pin them up for a better vantage point. In either case, when I get the chance, I'll post it with the correct link to the original photo.

Also, I've entered

's contest.. or I plan to, I have a B&W image done with shading, completley in pencil, I've done an outline so I can use my color pencils to well.. color it. As is kinda obvious, I'm not very good with the digital coloring. I've been looking for a beginner/user friendly program I can learn off of, but the going is rough. So when I get the colored version done, I'll posted the original sketch (with all the outlines, eraser marks, and errors), the pencil shaded image, and the colored one, with the links to her characters that I used in the image, and maybe I can have a suggestion as to which one to use?

in either case, I'm so swamped. Between school, work, BF, *still* trying to write my friend a letter (she's left the province for school), trying to practice drawing and get better, and trying to finish the current fanfic I have, start the sequel, and the 3 stories I have sitting in my head (one I posted the very beginning for), I'm just blech. I want nothing more than to sleep, but when I wake up, there are a million and one things I want to do. Oi.

Something new:

Like many people, I've been questioning things like religion. So I'm going to be going to a group meeting that discusses paganism ideas and beliefs, just to learn a little more. I'm even more eager now since I've started my religions class.

Finally:

Does anyone have any suggestions for some reference photos, or tutorials for specific things or bady parts? like landscapes, noses, hands or feet (hands and feet in particular, I can rarely draw those)
and OMFreakinG! when did we nonsubs get the mood and stuff!! eeeee! (it's sad that I'm so excited about that but hey, it;s late, I'm tired, and since september, I've had no life)

In other news of me, I've started to write again, very happy with that. Picked up on my fanfic, having some ideas for PI and really itching to get to my Original. It doesn't include my OC Ayana, it is a seperate story of a halfbreed elf so far called Lira, with a nick name of . Haven;t really gotten everything down yet, but her parents died when she was small, she lives in one of the few villages that accept all races. She lives alone. There is some more about her, but if I go into it and then decide to post the story here, it would ruin everything. I'd love to be able to draw her, but don't have the skill yet. If only people's commissions weren't so damn expensive, I'd ask someone with the talent to draw her.

but oh well.

Second, I just got a Digital camera for my birthday!! big 22 on the 12th. I'm going away for a few days, so mom bought it for me early. Also treated myself and got a new MP3 player that comes with am and fm stereo. Any one have any music suggestions to draw/write to?

I was planning on posting the Renji picture that Ryomaru allowed me to color as my 500 pageviews piece, but that didn't quite make it. I tried the shading and that on my own.... it looks ok, I'll probably post it later.

School is starting soon. I got all of the classes that I wanted with the exception of one, and I took that as a distance course anyway. (It's listed as a 2000 level course as distance and 3000 as in class?? go figure) I'm also hoping to get down to the center to see if they have any fall art classes coming up. Would love to join another one... or two

. Right now I'm just saving up for school, so not so much of it has to go on my visa. .... can't wait to get that down. Just put 4 new tires on the bloody thing

. But I think I have a good financial plan going right now. so everything should be ok.

With my realistic art, I'm a little more content. It's easier to draw something from a presented image than it is from your own imagination. Can't wait to start working on the images offered by Andrew and Ben.

I'd also like to draw animal, real and fictional. Horses, dogs, Dragons, um... krakens! yes, krakens and dragons. They're a part of my story in which my origianl 'anime' character are also in.

Anyway, I'm just having a lot of trouble finding my style or drawing. I can eyeball something, but I don't feel it has something in it that says 'this was drawn by her. How do you develop your style? When and how do you find out what it is? And, damn it! how long does it take?? (I'm terribly impatient with myself).

Well, before I get into it, I do have some good news/sad news. I have finished both of my art courses. This is good news because I do feel that I have improved since taking them, which makes me very happy. It's kinda sad because I really enjoyed them, and now I'm done.

. I'm most impressed with the life art class I did. I struggled with it, but I feel I made the most improvement in that class as opposed to the first one, because I had to struggle so much.

On to the point of this: Why I feel like Hamlet.

Ladies and gentlemen, I have been presented with a wonderful opportunity. I have family in Scotland, and I have been given the chance to go to school there for psychology, and stay with my family. This has some definite good points. I've wanted to go to Scotland since I was a little girl. Seriously, since I was like.... 8 or younger. I have a much better chance of getting into my faculty, it's almost a garuntee, and much better job opportunities. Everything sounds wonderful right? Mmph.

I also live in Newfoundland. My family, my boyfriend, my dog, job etc, is all here. The family I would live with is a set of 3rd cousins. I talk to them, I like them, but still. It's more my BF and my dog I'm concerned with. (I know, it sounds stupid to be worried about the dog, but I am). My BF is saying I should go, and I want to, but I'm afraid. I'll be gone for 4 months, come back for christmas, then go again. I'm left with only just over a month to spend time with him if I go. I'm afraid things will change between us.

And as stupid as this sounds, I'm concerned about my dog. I know she'll be well taken care of by my parents. But she sleeps with me, she cuddles me, when I feel like crap, or my back hurts, she curls up next to me. I've had her for 2 years, since she was a pup. She's like a baby to me. I can't imagine leaving her.

And I'll miss my dog. I haven't slept without her at the foot of the bed in 2 years. I don't know what it would be like to have to do that.

I'll miss him. He's my best friend. I can talk to him about anything in the world. He'll cuddle and hug me for as long as I need it. And I won't have that if I go.

And so, I'm hamlet. To go, or not to go, that is the question. I'm leaning toward going, but those two things make me really really sad about it.

*sigh.

It isn't working for me. Art, writing, remodelling. The whole frikin thing. I'm looking at all this amazing art, anime and otherwise and I'm like "I want to do something like that! I'll practice and try and take classes!!" Apparently there's this whole 'Boo on anime' thing going on here, but I LIKE anime art. There are a number of pieces I would like to draw for my story, I have one to two images in mind for each chapter! But it just isn't working. My anime art looks like shite in comparison. Take a look at someone like .. say..

. These people are awesome in their art. Then there's a scene I recently faved and whoever did it, holy cow, it's B-E-A-utiful. I can think of things like this that I want to draw, but it just doesn't make it from my head to the paper!!

I'm almost finished the intro art class, and I'm actually pretty proud of myself. I can see where I've made progress. The most recent picture I've drawn is one of a ceramic pig. I like it a lot. I think I'm doing ok with it. BUT!

I've also started that life drawing class. Not going so well. The pictures are god-awful, looking like blobs. I was starting to get the gist of forshortening last class, but that's about it. Proportion is still not working for me, I don't think my hand is steady enough. Head to body should be 1-6, then I'm measuring shoulder length, 2 headwidths across. knee is a head and a half down.... etc etc!! does it come together like it should? NO! all the hard work I'm putting into it and it still looks like the pencil decided to yark all over the paper. *add favorite explecitive here*

GRRAAAWWRRRR! *sigh

As such, I'm afraid to attempt any further anime art. MY OC'S was a fly by moment thing, I couldn't do it again, and believe me, I've tried.

I'm still practicing, still trying. My art room is almost completely set up, just trying to find an easel and a mini manequin. But still.... it's discouraging.

Brief update on my happenings: I've started the art class, and I'm luvin it. I'd like to post what we're doing so you guys can give me your input, but the pages are frikin huge, not the normal 8x10ish sizes. Maybe I'll get a picture and post it... hmmm..... Well, we're still drawing from still life. There was a life drawing class that I wanted to take... but then my car broke down in the road. 400$ later, she;s running and doesn't sound 'angry' as my friend put it... but the life drawing class is outta the picture.

Oh well. Maybe another time.

I'm still nervous about drawing imaginary stuff, but the teacher we have did do animations as well, maybe he'll open a class for that too.

. In the meantime, it's the art books for me.

Soo much stuff I have to work on. I have started an original story, but there are two more that I'm thinking about, one of which is Ayana's story. I also have to work on my two InuYasha fanfics and my Pie for Frikin Chibi. Oh my. I just can't find the oomph I need. And the things that I want to do with the art.... well... it's out of my league right now, but eventually....

1} I sleep with my eyes open. Seriously. I scared the bejeezus out of my BF when we were camping on night and he was looking at me while I was sleeping and my eyes popped open. I was still asleep.

2} I can mix my liquor like nobody's business. I can drink rum, vodka, coolers, cream drinks and tequila, and not get sick. So far, I've been told I'm the only one my friends know who can do this.

3} I collect random things that I have no use for. I really do. I have a sewing maching that I've used once. But I wanted one so I said "Sure! Why not?" It's now gathering dust on my sewing table.

4} I go to horror movies all the time, but I can't stand watching them. I have to peek through my fingers. I love them and hate them. *sigh* I'll never learn

5} I also apparenlty talk in my sleep. Never knew this at all, but if I'm just 'woken up' people can ask me questions and i can carry on a fairly normal conversation, and not remember a word of it in 2 hours.

6} If I go to sleep really late. I wake up really early. Can't be helped. Last weekend, went to bed at 4:30, woke up and could not get back to sleep at 8:15. I was barely fazed the entire day. I did go nuts at my sisters BF before I went to sleep cause it was the night my car broke down and I had to get a cab home. He showed up at the door when I was already in a pissy mood and I didn't know he was coming. I was so vicious. I first told him to get his shoes back on and walk the hell home. Then he said, kinda sheepishly, he didn't have the money for a cab on him, so I ordered him to take off his shoes, go to the guest room and don't come out. The guy's 6ft and 190lbs of muscle. I'm 5'3 and can't even lift my 40lbs dog for a long time.

He hightailed it to the room and didn't come out till morning. Apparently I'm also very scary when I'm uber uber pissed.

Anyway. I thing I'm going to change directions for a little bit. I originally started with drawing my own stuff, original characters, poses, ideas, whatever, and then post them. I think what might be better is if I used other pictures to practice (and of course if I use anyone else's work as a base, then of course I'll put notes in about that). I love anime, but I'm a bit better at still life drawing because it's something I can observe for a long period of time.

Perhaps I can train my hand that way with pictures, plus still practicing on the side. Hmmm..

What got me thinking this way was today I went out and bought some art supplies for my class that's starting on the 17. Then I was thinking about the whol "walk before you run" thing. Then I thought perhaps I was getting too far ahead of myself. So that's going to be the new gameplan.

Also, I'm going to be removing my story as well. This site is mainly for visual art, and there doesn't seem to be much interest in the written arts as opposed to visual art. Which is fine. I just don't think there's much point in it being here if no one wants to read it.
