I got a giant plushie stingray for Christmas (I'm talking big, like, 2 feet across big). It is the softest, most cuddly toy a biologist with an interest in marine life could ever hope to have and I cuddle it at every opportunity now, especially while reading or surfing the net. ★Who did you first cosplay as?
Well, I’ve been playing dress up, often in imitation of pretend characters, my whole life.
At a con, though? Rune (Dragon Knights).

★When and where did you first cosplay?
NDK….um, was that 2003? I think? OMG, that seems so long ago!

★When and where was the last time you cosplayed?
Again: I like to play dress up a lot, just on my own! So the truest answer would be in ‘my kitchen, while cooking pasta with friends’.

★Who have you cosplayed as in the past?
I do a ton of costuming in general, but for cons and events:

♥ Belldandy (Oh My Goddess)

★Who is your favorite person to cosplay as?
France! Definitely France ☺

★Who do you REALLY wanna cosplay as?
I’m soooo excited about the steampunk AU version of Russia (APH) that I’m planning/working on at the moment! It’s gonna be so badass!!!

★How many of your friends cosplay?
I have two locally (I converted them to the dark side that is cosplay, lol). I also have a whole bunch online (I am too lazy to count).

★Have you ever walked around in public in your cosplay outfit?
I’ve walked around near cons, to go get food at a restaurant or go to the drug store or something. I’m considering going to school in cosplay randomly, one day XD

★Have people in public ever recognized you and asked for photos?
Outside of con? No.

★Have you ever made your own cosplay outfit?
I’m proud to say I’ve made all of my cosplays from scratch (with liberal sewing advice from my Mom on the first couple).

★When and where did you first learn of cosplay?
I was amazed by all the crazy people dressed up as anime characters at my first NDK and I immediately decided to join them!

★What did you think of it?
See above.

★What do you think of it now?
I still have as much of a blast as I ever did playing dress-up :) Costume design and creation is my form of therapy and wearing it at cons where I can meet other people who like to create wearable art is fun. It’s so wonderful to see what everyone makes up!

★Where do you usually cosplay?
Around the house? And at cons, when I occasionally have the time and money to go….

★Have you ever done a cosplay skit on stage?
Nope.

★Have you ever won a prize for said skit?
See above.

★Do you plan your cosplay outfits waaay before you’re meant to wear them?
Oh, yeah, big time! Like, I started planning in October or November for stuff I’ll be wearing at the end of May. 6 months is a decent head start for me.

★Have you ever been to a convention and cosplayed?
Yeah.

★What is the best thing about cosplay?
Like I’ve said, I love costume design and creation. Sewing is my zen and props give me endless opportunity to tinker :heart:

★What is the worst thing about cosplay?
All the drama. My drama quota is already filled by dealing with real life ^^; Seriously, the world has enough BS already, there’s no need to make up more!

★Why do you cosplay?
I like anime/fantasy and I like sewing and I like playing dress-up (like the big kid I am). It adds up nicely!

1. What's your cosplay name?
I don't have a specific name that is for cosplay *only*. In all things fandom-related, I generally go by my username, "NymAulth", or sometimes just "Nym". Since Yaoi Con, certain cosplay buddies have started referring to me as "France" XD This amuses me, but it could get confusing, fast, 'cause there are a lot of France cosplayers out there in the world.

2. Do you have a cosplay group?
Nothing so organized and official. I am lucky enough to have the awesome :iconhuntressarria: and her fiance, who live in the same small town as me and who I have converted to the ways of cosplay. We're making matching stuff for a mini-FMA-group. I'm helping them with the sewing and they're helping me with the props and the photos. We make a rockin' team!

3. What is your most current cosplay?
The historical version of France (APH) that I wore at Yaoi Con. OMG, that costume was *so* much fun to make and wear (although, damn, it sort of took over my life there for a while...I sewed on and off June-October and spent way too much money)

4. What is your most current cosplay skit?
I've never really done the whole 'skit' thing. I just enjoy acting like my character and improving a bit with anyone else around who's dressed from the same series.

5. What do all your cosplays have in common?
Um.....Not a whole lot, actually. They're kinda mostly guys? The Anime ones, anyway (Even that has exceptions-FemAmerica and my witch's get-up for Harry Potter).

6. Do you have any cosplay pairings?
France sexes *everyone*! Seriously, it's one of the things that makes him crack fun to play XD
If I'm FemAmerica, I could go for a bit of fanservice with England or Russia....or Canada....okay, maybe my most of my cosplay characters are all a bit on the flirty/slutty side (Sanzo doesn't count, here).

7. Who do you cosplay now?
France and FemAmerica, currently. Everything else is either in a box back in CO or is still in the construction stages.

8. What cosplay do you WANT to do?
I'm in various stages of constructing Roy Mustang (FMA), France (the standard Blue Coat version from the anime), and steampunk!Russia (because steampunk Hetalia AU is awesome). If I had unlimited time and resources, I'd love to re-vamp my Mireille (Noir) and do Yumichika (Bleach), Maggie (Read or Die), and one of the really frilly CCS dresses just for the sewing challenge.

I have no adequate words to describe the awesomeness that was Yaoi Con 2009.....
"Tres bien", I suppose, for a start :heart:
I got to run around in costume all weekend and there was yaoi eyecandy everywhere and lots of very cute, very awesome girls hang out with.
FTW!

There were tons of cool cosplayers around, too, especially APH cosplayers, and I got to be around a lot of really lovely people (you all know exactly who you are).
Made lots of new friends-be sure to keep in touch, my darlings!

Definitely going to this one again :)

It’s been way too long since my last journal here, so par for the course I guess :)

Life’s been pretty swell for me recently. I have good classes this semester (better than my crappy fall schedule, at least). I’m no longer trying to do way too much at once, and as a result I’ve come down off the adrenaline high I was running on the last couple of years. I have time to draw and read and do things besides study constantly these days!

Okay, so I've made it to Hilo and it's been hot and wet and green and great so far!

I'm going to school in paradise, and paradise is rainy (and only going to get more so) :D
I'll be attending new student orientation for the coming week-I can't wait to find out what classes I'm gonna get-I'm sure it's gonna be awesome! My housing situation looks really good and Hilo is a quirky-fun place to be :nod:

Life is gonna get busy shortly, but I'm still gonna be around on DA as much as possible and I'm still working on the art I owe certain people (you know who you are) :heart:

"Adam's Song" -Blink182 (again). So I want to kill myself? I never would of guessed ;) I listen to ths song for the phrase "I traced the cord back to the wall-no wonder, it was never plugged in at all" That amuses the happy shit out of me!

"Crush" by Dave Matthews. This song is apparently referring to the true love and bad behavior that I never experienced in High School (or at any other time). Maybe this was is a past life?

8. How can you get ahead in life?
"What A Scene" -Goo Goo Dolls . Apparently I need to "take it easy 'til (I) make it alone" :) This is funny since I've had several friends/mentors tell me the same thing. Really.

9. What is the best thing about your friends?
"Reflections" -Disney's Mulan Soundtrack. Wow, this one can actually make some sense! I think one of the best things about my friends is that I can be myself around them, no matter what, and they still accept me :D

10. What is in store for this weekend?
"The Rose" Bette Midler. This is good news for my personal life, perhaps? I'd like to think so :D I'll be going to Pride this weekend.

11. To describe your grandparents?

I'm finally able to get back on DeviantArt-thank the Force! :D I'm inexpressibly happy to be back!

I've gotten all my crappy computer problems fixed (at least enough so to have internet and drawing/scanning capabilities) and I've already been browsing my favorite artists' work. I'll probably get around to posting soon, too.

Since I've been gone, I've finished finals (limping through with a dying hard drive) and graduated from Community College. I now have a two-year Associates Degree!!! :floating:
I am in the process of moving out of my current housing arrangement and getting ready to pack most of my stuf in storage so I can attend University in Hawaii this August. Also, I start botanical illustation classes this Tuesday-exciting summer!

In other news: I have seen Pirates of the Caribbean AWE and it is awesome! The graphics in that film rocked my world, literally (even if the end is saddening for my 'ships).

Unfrtunately, I am going to be on involuntary hiatus for an indefinite period of time.
My computer developed hard disk corruption and I've lost all my completed and in-progress graphics fiels, not to mention all my RL schoolwork and my graphics program capabilities. I'm working on getting the problem solved as fast (I have finals in the next couple of weeks) as I can and will probably be back sometime in May.

My deepest apologies to all the people I was drawing gifts/art trades with-I'm still going to do the drawings and post them, but it might be a while. Sorry :(

In other news: I'm very glad to be back home, with access to my own Mac and my own comfy bed. I've been house-sitting for the past week. It was really cool, 'cause I'll be paid good money for my trouble and the dogs I was looking after were friendly and fun to play with :) On the other hand, trying to handle four dogs when you're not used to having any pets that don't live in aquariums takes it out of a body. All in all, I'm really glad to be done-plus I now have the leisure time and net access needed to hang out on DeviantArt some more befre school starts again.

I found the coolest new deviantArt community devoted to one of my favorite characters, Commodore James Norrington (no, not always Jack Sparrow),

Overall, I must say I thought it was an AWESOME MOVIE!!! It doesn't quite beat out Curse of the Black Pearl, but it comes very, very close :D

Pros:
The actors have continued to deliver the top-notch sort of performances I became accostomed to from the first film. I laughed almost as much as I did at CotBP :) Johnny Depp gives a truly hilarious, foppish performance as Sparrow-he's ridiculous (in an amusing sort of way). I'm glad we get to see more of Pintel and Ragetti, too!

Disney and Bruckheimer (thankfully) didn't scrimp on the graphics. The Flying Dutchman and its crew were incredible and I liked the way they worked the ship-devouring Kraken in. The PotC design team must have some truly kick-ass concept artists!

Cons: I thought the second film was a little more confused in characterization than the first. Everyone in the first film pretty much has strongly defined types and personalities-the borderline-cliched classicness of it all is part of what makes the films so great! In DMC, I thought some people, especially Elizabeth, appeared out of character compared to their first movie selves.

I got the impression that the writers were trying to show that Elizabeth would do anything to save Will, however, it felt like they took that to far when they had her tie Jack to the mast of a doomed ship. That action seems to go against the kind of moral center a 'good' person like Elizabeth would possess. All of Elizabeth's flirting (mostly with Jack) bothered me, too. A little is okay, but there is such a thing as overdoing it blatantly-I was beginning to wonder whether she remembered she was engaged (which contradicts her 'doing anything for Will" thing). Overall, I thought Elizabeth seemed OOC the most.
Norrington's actions at the end shocked me, too-not as OOC as Lizzy, but still disonant. I thought he had more honor, judging by his actions in the first movie. At least they didn't write Jack and Will as OOC.

I have neither life enough nor time to look at and properly comment on all the wonderful, beautiful, lovely art that has been posted by all the people I watch/stalk/am friends with. Anyhow, I'm still obsessed with drawing House MD fanart, in additiion to my HP stuff, so I posted one of my crappy-ass sketches to Scraps. Dr. Gregory House is a difficult dude to draw (and have him come out looking like he does in the show, anyway). In my defense, it was good practice with Painter IX :) I :heart: the watercolor and digital watercolor features in that program.

:floating: Zoology class rocks my world! Calculus II is way cool and way, way hard :reading: Honors Lit, however, is harder for me...I like to read, I just have trouble writing papers about what I read. I am starting to sicken slightly of Measure For Measure; I hope we move on soon...

Ah, what am I saying? I have no spare time now that I'm back in college. Must...update...instead of...doing...calculus homework. >.< . I might not have as much time to comment and update for the next few months, but I have not dropped of the face of the earth entirely :)

Ah, well, in other news, I uploaded two new pictures and a couple of scraps over the weekend. I recently got Painter IX and am learning to use it (thats where most of the time I *do* have is going right now). Painter is really cool for coloring and inking more naturally and I think combining it with Photoshop will give me some awesome effects. At least, that is what I am hoping...

Random thought: House M.D. rocks my world. I recently discovered the show while surfing evening television channels. Hugh Laurie does a killer performance as Dr. House and I laughed my ass off at the dialogue :D Best show ever! I may have to draw fanart... :hmm:
