Well of course this is a piratey entry!

Well first, I have to recommend Jevil's : for a once over.
Second is a note of thanks.

Dartwith has been one of my YPP buds for a while. I credit a lot to my current piratey shenanigans to him and adopted him as my little brother a year or so back along with "He Who Shall Not Be Named" from Cybertron way back a Messatsu Gou Hado ago.

A pic of him was my very first commission on YPP and it effectively gave me a love for not just the game, bet everything pirate as well. While I started to stir the soup that eventually became a comic, he was always restless and struck off to start his own crew cause he hadn't done that in game yet. I had crew settled and while he is a very persuasive fellow, I refused to leave my flag and crew.

When War and island ownership first became available, my flag, The Jolly Company, became the first to capture and island. I was giddy at the time and finally gave Dart the services of my first alt, if I ever made one. A short time later, I had reached episode 3 of the comic and in a fit of laughter, Toji slummed onto the shores of Winter Solstice (how appropriate). This being my first alt, I realized this was the pirate I promised to Dart's crew.
More irony as the first pirate I contact was Yakuza, who was the original Kai on Midnight and the only pirate to see Toji without a hat. XD.
Once settled I had a lot of fun with Le Freccette. The crew were fun, active and always up for silliness. Dartwith always felt a need to try new things, so he has left the crew many times, leaving the crew in the hands of Xanth once and Toji thereafter.

And so the actual tale of Capn' Toji was rather bland compared to what goes on in my head.

Recently a random login turned up something unexpected. Dartwith asked me what I wanted for Christmas....

What does every digital artist want for Christmas?!

After I sent the link, "What address do I send it too?"

So today I got that bit of awesome and after I crashed my computer, it handles like a dream. My ONLY issue with it compared to my massive Wacom digitizer is that it has not erase feature which was easily remedied by programing an erase button.
Thanks to Dartwith, once again, Obaba's day went to 11. Thanks Little Bro!

At 10:00 PM PST (1:00 AM for me), GoPets servers were shut down.
While I have complained about the economy system for the game, this was what eventually led to it's demise.
The economy was not sustainable by the few dedicated players and the changes that were brought in seemed to only exasperate the problem.

I'll need to make a proper dedication sometime, but I made a few friends and came to love my bubble-headed pets:

Mochi the Pixie Pet (pictured on far right in top picture): My first pet on far right. I wanted to make a lilac kitty and she was the one I used to make specific customs for. She had little wings I got early on and I made her a sparkly dress and a ponytail that she would model. When jobs were introduced, she became a tailor, but not a very good one. Her transportation of choice was the Otter Hot Air Balloon and lived in a magic tree stump on my Private Land. She had a dragon pet that another player gifted me.

B.K.(pictured on right center in top picture): This was my first dedication pet. Before losing my home, we had 2 cats, one being a slight little girl named, B.K. She disappeared after the hard transition into new homes my siblings and I faced. The dedication to her was a GoPet of the same name that I think I'll miss the most. She had the same tabby and peach colored markings on her body and wore a customized pink throwback shirt and a sky blue uniform skirt. Her job among my pets was a Farmer. She had a greenhouse in a barn that she would harvest as well as from the Giant White Mushrooms I had on my land. Her transportation of choice was a Black and Orange Chinese dragon and she lived in the GoPets treehouse hideout that was an arcade inside.

Chuck(pictured on far left center in top picture): Chuck was my second dedication pet of a beagle-terrier mix I once had. He was my only fellow among the girls and my first GoDog. He ended up as my Cook pet and made meals for my GoPets all the time. His place was a out door diner I customized for him:

His transportation of choice was a black race car and he wore a regular chef outfit. He was shadowed by a sad blue penguin pet.

Sera(pictured on far left in top picture): My last GoDog pet was a joke I went with based on the comic but had appearance origins in a gift I received when I was 1 year old. Sera got the full custom Greenie outfit and became my fishing pet. She or Mochi would usually be the one to accompany me to other players lands. When fishing, she would have a fishing robot in tow to assist her. The one time she fished up an old eyepatch, it permanently became part of her outfit.
She made her home on one side of my main land with a obviously pirate feel to it.

A lot of work (and money) went into my lands (I had 2 and a private land). I made a few customs to pay for some of it, but even with all the trouble, it was enjoyable and I will miss it.
For my dedication pets, it was like losing them all over again. A lot of players had dedication pets as I did. With Sera and Mochi, a little whimsy was fun.
The community was great and the chat blew up with international goodbyes as the IKU system allowed us to chat without words getting in the way all the time.

When the sun set on the Jungle Retreat, my pets were playing and doing all the normal things they would be at any other session. They were full and PKE was up. Maybe the game will be revived sometime, but even if it isn't, it was a good way to go.

~Obaba

As said before, Natsume was originally a character/companion for my husband's D&D game characters. She's a little older and wiser, yet as unlucky as ever. Well it may be that I get an opportunity to bring her back to play a little again.
Granted our D&D seems to go more like a BESM campaign, but I will have to get a chance to illustrate the 4 of us, (Natsume, Shadowfox, RyukamaTenchi and Rover) in some way.

She's a Cleric/Ranger combo, which makes sense for her. When I last left her, she, Shadowfox, and an half-orc buddy we just called Ken, cause he had no name, we were escaping from a building they set on fire. It was an accident, really. The furniture came to life and was attacking them plus the added issue of needing some light in darkened rooms. So they started a fire...Natsume only revealed later that she has the ability to cast light spell.

Character Development post...mind your head.

With the recent Flapjack related postings by , I have been contemplating my own pirates as of late, mainly of my favorite captain and Sera as the one Greenie crew.

Since Obaba is a great fan of children's literature, Toji "projects" to be likened to Captain James Hook, however, knowing one is cast as a villain can be frustrating when there is little desire to be evil (or good, since Toji tends to be pretty lazy on either account). The captain also tends to be a bit of a pushover, inept and insecure although spiteful when angered or slighted. Toji's best asset as a captain is diplomacy, tact and , as an avid poker player, bluff.
Since Sera is THE crew, and still a child, the captain does double duty: lookout for the crew and babysitting, something Toji is actually more familiar with. Sera is older and more loyal than Toji could have hoped for, she could be a Smee to Toji's watered down, Hook. As color schemes go, Obaba is guilty of snatching that up when selecting Sera's rags. However, unlike Smee, she is hardly diplomatic about anything. Her opinion is fact and her actions are justified (even when she is just plain WRONG). But despite being small and a little ample about the middle, she is willing and able to defend her flawed logic and her captain's honor. Hilarity insues.

Hence my lengthy post here instead of cluttering comments on this with my deranged ramblings. It didn't take me long to see and draw comparisons between "The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack" and my own 2 pirate crew. While Toji would never denounce the virtues of love, bad habits like gambling, cowardice and a sweet tooth are traits Toji does share with the oddly constructed, Captain K'nuckles. Loyalty, naivety, and hero worship are traits Sera shares with Flapjack (and still, hints of that same color pallete). They both have even called foul on their captains, albeit a little more violently with Sera.

Sooo... Kai and Joyce? Captain Handy and Miss Leading. They are based on non-pirates, so that can wait till another day.

Funny how I watch a lot of DA's self proclaimed pirates.

Name a character that you know I write or have written, and I'll tell you:

a. What initially prompted me to write about them.
b. One of their best traits.
c. One of their worst traits.
d. How easy/difficult I find it to write the character.
e. The moment where I feel that I truly captured the character.
f. My plans to write the character in the near future.

Considering, most have only seen my pirates, not to forget my first loves with Ger, Pawma, Kagale, Amyah, and Lucy. My first characters were considerably fuzzier, but sorely missed.
If you want to ask about them, you'd probably be a little confused, but they are very much a product of happier times.

EDIT
In other news, I get my mastectomy Tuesday. Circumstances as they are, I will get treatment in about 3 weeks, and this will leave me little to no chance of ever having children. It's the only agonizing thing about this, as chances for salvage missions and surrogates had passed in a short time frame in which the information was received after anything could have been done. It's been the only agonizing news from the last few weeks. I still fear that I may be lonely as I get along in years with no family of my own to speak of.
I should be back on Wednesday sometime, but wish me luck until then.

:hugs and kisses:

P.S.
x-posted
So much has happened this week. The informative diagnosis, and a birthday today made me feel almost as what the point is in celebrating.

For my family, it has been really hard to not just tell them, but re-live the emotions every time I have to let them know.
My sisters, who handled things differently, both offered sound advice that I took to heart. I am very glad I did. But there is nothing that can prepare you for the helplessness of hearing your baby sister in tears and not being able to comfort or ease her fears. It's agonizing.
Hardest to break the news to, was my father. I don't get along well with his present wife, but the bond we do share is that we love the man and when he said he wanted to come out to see me, we both were working on getting him on a flight within 24 hours.
My brother is MiA as he does not have a phone and I haven't a clue on how he will be on this. He has taken some news well and practically, and other times, angry and hurt.
My extended family, I have given the vital info to as they all need to know to screen earlier, and not to let emotions paralyze them into doing nothing if they find something. I owe it to them, who have looked out for me when I was having it rough and felt alone, to keep them informed.
They are my team. I have seen them rally forces and muster the best in them to fight this before. It made me proud and when I look at this as a team effort, it's like insta win.

From my friends, online and offline,it was mixed of disbelief and a overwhelming outpouring of wellwishes and encouragement. You guys have been great to me and all of your comments, notes, PMs give me hope and keep me in fight mode on this.

My job,...eh. They but me on Family Medical Leave for 12 weeks.
At first I was like, "Holy Crap! I have 12 weeks off! =O"
Then I was like, "Holy Crap! I have 12 weeks off -_-;"
It's without pay and with my treatment options, it's not going to be a vacation. The good part is I don't have to worry about having work after this is done. I have budgeted the next few months and I can get by with what is in my savings without it being too damaging. Applying for a deferment on a student loan will be a tremendous help.
PROTIP: Saving is important, Kids. Just unforeseen for situations like this.

Jason and I have been engaged for a while now and no plans have been made for dates. It has been convenient to simply be together and learn about each other, which has been an adventure in itself.
Last night, we made the decision to take the plunge FOR REALZ. He came home in a flurry, held me close, being careful as not to touch the surgery site and said that I was the woman he wanted to spend the rest of his life with and without fanfare or public spectacle, file for a license and do something private later. He came back with 2 gold bands that his parents gave him a while back for this very thing.
Talking to my father again after finding this out, had him misty-eyed again. I know when he gets here, we will have a good cry again and he can see all the sites and wonders of Missouri, all 5 minutes of them, and promptly become bored. He'll get to meet Jason's parents, which I think will be hilarious.
My sister's are happy for me, however my little sis is less than optimistic that the public spectacle of a wedding will ever come if we do things by filing paperwork. In all honesty, although I'd be lying if I said I didn't want a big wedding. But at the end of the day, I want to be with Jason. He makes me so happy! We fight and scuffle and come to blows, but can still see eye to eye. We know things intuitively about each other and we mutually understand that we can love and be close and have our own space when needed. However we do retain the issue of "selective hearing loss" when necessary. I want to spend my life with this man, flaws and all.

On top of all this, as I said today is my birthday. I am 38 years old as of an hour and 17 minutes prior to this post. I think it's worth celebrating, don't you?

x-posted
I guess I haven't said much of anything because I was scared.
About a half a month ago, I got to my usual self exam turned up something unusual.
What happened in very quick order is a doctor's visit, and trip to the surgeon for a consultation within the hour.
Next day mammogram. Two days later (tomorrow), instead of a biopsy, straight to surgery.

I have never had any surgery, ever. For my family, they know this drill.
As I have been told, it could be nothing and my concern is understandable, but not every bump and dimple is cancer.
Then again, it could be.

I've been told that since I am going in, the usual no eating after midnight yadda yadda...
I am going to eat like, a whole bag of Cheetos and ice cream till 11:00

Updates >O
The results were less than stellar, with testing positive for cancer, it just brought to mind a million things
I could have done differently to avoid which may have been an unavoidable, but beatable fight.
Speaking of which, some online battles seem less important, but by no means less fun.
Maybe a superpoke could be arranged.
Now that this has happened, everyone has suggestions on what I should do right now. >_<
I know I have to do research, and talk about it more with my doctor on what options I have, or if my options limited because of where I am or because not enough is known.

I'd be a liar to say I wasn't scared, angry and confused right now. I have lost a lot due to this very disease in my past. Things I can never have back in my life. I want it back. The time, the tears, the family and dear friends.
After clearing my head, I am getting more testing done, discuss my options with Jason, due it financial impact on the both of us, and go into this well armed.

It should be fun and wickedly insane, since Van Heist's Gogo seems to be polar opposite to Natsume.

Matter and Anti-Matter are a volatile slurry.

More news: Ruby, my anxious little cornsnake, had her 10 gallon prison upgraded to this in a 24x18x24 set up. It's so bloody huge she can't really fathom all the room she has yet and is still hiding in the corner of her bedding. The other odd thing is that it opens in the front and is screened. She can smell everything, including large, bipedal predators prowling around the room.

Did I mention I have a birthday this month? ^^

American policy perceived as hypocritical? Why not? To encourage democracy and free elections in Palestine only to have Hamas win. For me, it was the ultimate LULZ and for the current administration, it was a head scratcher. Why would the the free will of the people draw on the ideals of such a radicals that the US government does not approve of...

Maybe cause they don't like you.

Take for example this story of indigenous people that have been living in isolation and newly "discovered". Frankly, they have known about themselves for quite sometime. The discovery by the Western world, that does not understand, care to understand and decimate their identity is, tragic.
People that reject to live their lives like us, can't be the target of malice, or scorn. If you feel they are violating basic human rights, no amount of military force or occupation is going to change minds. It will just be a different form of oppression.
There are likely missionaries, industrialist, and naturalist that want to pounce on these people and not just uproot their culture. I envision photos of an anthropologists showing an adult twice his age a camera and a humorous note of the naivety of "these people". We have a unjustified sense of superiority , thinking that we Americans are admired and feared for our moral fiber and righteous ideals.
It's a lie, and a bold-faced one at that.
One morally bankrupt American cannot pass judgment on a healthy primitive culture based on knowing the world outside himself.
In a separate, but equal mindset, one can't simply go to a country, declare they have issue with a small faction of people there and declare war upon them, throwing not just a country, but an entire region in turmoil. And in the end, to maintain the illusion that their way is the right and only way to do things, OCCUPY that country indefinitely until they are accepting, and thankful for, regardless of the loss of life and suffering caused.
Does anyone understand how completely un-American that is? The reason why terrorists are urged on by this? They see the hypocrisy and injustice. They fight our troops, that essentially believe the same basic universal truths.
It's brother against like-minded brother.

What should come next year, after the fanfare of an inauguration, is healing dialog with the world. Americans should vote not for fear of what we don't understand, but that we want to be the stuff of moral fiber the world looks to for comfort and acceptance. It is not appeasement, or negotiation. It is common sense.

x-posted wherever.

So more Episodes of The Depths posted.
I can look through them now and see where I have gotten better, and the embarrassing hack jobs I did too. >_<
I like the new format tho'

And now a word from our sponsor...
Puzzle Pirates is pretty much my reason for penning this story and putting doodles to it. I had it very well written for a journal post before the internet ate my entry, but I will try to remember what I can.
Midnight is my home ocean, and as all great things, it is facing a decline. My pirates and story reside there and while the opening of a new ocean is great, I really worry that the micro payment system, which does not work for me, is winning over more people that are willing to dedicate time with friends in the overall game.
The Midnight ocean has the distinction, and curse of housing most of the older, mature players. New players arrive and like Sera, are seen as new and given a wide berth for possible offensive behavior. On the flip-side, most players will go out of their way to make their first time playing a memorable one. For me this is usually met with wordless fight challenges, trade requests and some profane comment caught by the filter:
Yes, I am a scuppering barnacle head for not buying your crate from you.:sigh:
Unlike most MMORPGs, YPP is not about leveling, becoming wealthy, having stuff and playing with yourself. (yes, I meant it that way, because what is the sense of a Massively Multi-player game if one indulges in the usual gross masturbation of playing alone).
YPP is social down to the player driven economy. New players, expect to have it all in short order. Just hop on, become a captain, boss other players around and expect to be respected for having a captainship or monarch title.
Truth is, anyone with a free afternoon can get stats to become a captain, but fail to remember the reason why some people don't take that role.
You are caretaker, enforcer and conscious of the crew. Responsible for anyone under your command regardless of their deeds or misdeeds.
for the new and other Green Oceans (the oceans that use the micropayment Doubloon currency), the road isn't necessarily easier, but goals are easier to fastrack.

So now I am telling a tale of an ocean that does not seem to get players that want to play the game as a whole, instead of in parts, reducing it to a collection of mini games

Anyone reading want to try it, have at it! This isn't an online recruitment to my crew, although I'm sure Toji wouldn't mind a few more mates to slam down
drinks with, it's a specific request to give Midnight a chance.

Affiliate linkage for Obaba

Non Affiliate linkage

There is also a chance for a limited time to get a green pet rat as well.
Hope to see ye all around soon.

As much as I was told to cool my jets over the Orphaned Works bill congress is set to fast track into law next month, I can't help but fume at what the concept behind it is.

Besides the smoldering money trail...

I will, as others have state that it is a bill that will remove/limit liability of someone that has performed a diligent search in order to find the author of a creative work, be it photo, art, music, or prose. If they can't find the creator, then they may use it for commercial gain, personal use or cat box liner. Maybe all of the above. For creators, who want to protect their work, they have the option to register any work with a commercial registry where the someone can search for it and contact creator for permission, or not. These registries are private and not regulated by the government (but noted in the bill and do not exist as of yet). There was talk of $5 fee for each registered work, but once you think about it:
• DeviantArt offers perks for subscribers
• Stamps an upload date on all work added
• Has a gallery for users that can be browsed.
It's a registry for all intents and purposes, it's just a matter of if the government will recognize it as a legitimate registry and if DA intends to charge anything for each piece you add.

But the registry is not the issue with the bill, it's the concept a creator has to bear the burden of proof if someone willfully uses a piece for commercial gain, personal use or aforementioned cat box liner. Sure I have to watermark, have my contact information and name on all work I produce, but any idiot with a photo editor can possibly eradicate that. They can then register THAT work and it's theirs. It's up to me to prove that they didn't and that all my information was available either on the art or in a registry (or one of the many registries that do not yet exist), so the one I accused of infringing was able to find me after working their darnedest to find me.

Presently Obaba's Hut comes up quite nicely in a Google search.
Presently Google has a stake in this with wanting access to Orphaned works.

My mother told me once that my characters were my children. I love them, care for them and are very much a part of me. Most artist feel this way and in publishing work, they bear their soul to the world. We don't have to sell our souls for a profit. We shouldn't have to actively pay to protect what's in our hearts. And definitely not have to prove that part of who we intrinsically are, is a part of us when someone else is out there stalking the web for a quick profit.

This is a lobbyists bill pure and simple. Nothing is being changed about how copyright is handled, except the parties that can profit from it. You can watermark, © all you want and it still grant you all the rights you have today. If you want to protect it from use, however. Ante up.

So I have been about a half a month without a working comp. Some of it due to my own procrastination, and the rest due to, "Why is it so hard to follow fucking directions".
I don't have the ability to test most hardware on a rig, like a motherboard or RAM, but I know when hard drives consistently produces the same errors, it most likely is something on what I can readily test. I am not stupid. Taking it to a professional was due to the fact I was unable to spend anymore time on what was guesswork at best and willing to pay to diagnose the issue.

I don't know what I am more outraged about. The fact that only one thing I requested was done, or the fact that they treated me like a moron, "It's probably a virus".
Yes I'm older, a woman, I'm black but it doesn't mean I'm not a computer geek.

The issue with the motherboard IDE controller was diagnosed within a day, which was good, because I was both hoping and expecting that. What I didn't expect was the hard drives they were scanning would take an additional 4 days to do. I was told the large 320 GB drive was full of bad sectors, as was the 80 GB because over time, hard drives start producing errors like this...

The hard drives were both less than a year old, in fact the 320 GB I had purchased 2 days before this Halloween because the previous drive had the exact same issue. They didn't have an issue with me buying anything there at the inflated prices, but they couldn't come to the conclusion from the notes I gave them where I wrote down that the drive was 2 weeks old, that the drive was indeed 2 weeks old.

The replacement motherboard they sold me has one IDE connection, and 4 SATA connections. When asked if I could get one, the remark was no one makes boards with IDE controllers anymore, so I was lucky to get a board with one. I guess this was because all they had at the store were SATA drives. Looking online I found the board they sold me and a same generation board by the same manufacturer with 2 IDE connections both at $50 less than what they gave me on Newegg.

As things are going now, I am going to go ahead and return the overpriced board and order the one I want, re-lap my old heatsink and get more thermal paste. I may have to ante up a little more for an additional heatsink for the northbridge, but it will still be cheaper than the original board.

At this point, I am very pissed about the whole matter. I feel like I am behind with no way to catch up. I am however thankful for Jason being generous enough to let me use his comp for checking things, but it isn't cut out for my artistic demands. I hope to have things back up in about 2 weeks, but until then...

What's all this non-piratey crap Obaba is posting?!

Lately, while I adore my AMM characters, I have been resigned to draw chibi pirates for too long. I needed a breakout and change of pace to test myself once again with the scope of what I can achieve, if only with color samples alone.

The first few pieces will be my forays into other games, with Guild Wars and Subeta covered already. I have wanted to get some competent doodles of my Dungeons & Dragons characters done for a few years, as well as hit on the old gang from Sleeping Dragons, since the storyline will eventually tie in with AMM.

Speaking of AMM, it WILL be getting a name change. It's outgrown the name and for all of you that like it... IT'S A HACKED NAME! I came up with it when I was tired, lazy and guess what I was watching at the time?
Yeah. So name change in the works.

I won't stop doing AMM, as it's a lot of fun to do. But it is getting a vacation while I sort out a YPP update in the main plot, and get character projects done. Kai has a character sheet in the works with, like Sera's, a sketch of his player.
Toji and Joyce are going to be a little difficult as they have secret identities.

But you're all smart people and figured that out already, right?
