Not really news..

I've been sick for the last week, bad cold.. It at least gave me some time to back up all my files. I bought a new 1TB drive, since my last one was full, and pretty much cloned it, so I could use my old 500 and 250 to start on the next TB.

I'm finally feeling better, but still weak and sore from doing next to nothing for the last six days. I still managed to get out and shoot two shows, and those are probably what made me sore

I have 5 days until slipknot, so hopefully I end up shooting that, it will be intense!

Im also considering going to school, since the job hunt is going along so slowly, even this close to christmas. I have the papers, filled out the student loan application, and am going to mail them off on tuesday.

Im planning on taking photography.

Im also planning on buying a Leica M6.. M9 if I can get a nice enough loan

Going to school will be easy, and give me free access to the darkrooms, which means I will be able to shoot almost exclusively film while I am there, and not have to worry about a rather inflated cost of developing and scanning.

Note: If you can ever scan your negs at a large resolution for free, do it. Its fucking expensive otherwise.


Its Thanksgiving in Canada tomorrow, so happy Turkey to all my fellow Canucks, even though we're having it on the 'wrong' day...

Not really news..

The end of this month is going to be one of my busiest ever.

I have also started shooting WHL hockey, which is one step below the NHL, so the action is fantastic.. its really fast paced tho, so I need to practice some more!

Im excited to have been accepted to shoot at the Peace summit, with the Dalai Lama, Desmond Tutu, and many more humanitarians and celebrities. Also looking like I will have two chances to shoot Jason Mraz, as he is going to be doing a special show before his main one.


On the job front, things are slow going, but hopefully will be able to find something suitable in October.


I am also SERIOUSLY considering a move to LA, but don't know if/when that will happen.. I do want to meet all the great people who I have met here on dA, who call California home, so we will see

Not really news..

A little over three months ago I had the pleasure, thanks to a mutual friend, of meeting Adam for a brief moment before his set, just enough time to shake his hand say "Hi, Thanks for putting me on the list, have a good set" and shoot some stills.

I never knew him personally, but friends of his in LA spoke very highly of him, so he is a man I admired very much, and because of that, I felt like I was hit with a tonne of bricks when I read the news yesterday afternoon.

My condolences go to his friends and family.

To show support of a life well lived, but cut far too short, I posted a blog with some photos I took back in May.

Not really news..

It's been a while since I posted a journal.. I've been super busy.. First was Rock The Bells, an all day festival, then the next weekend was Shambhala, a three day festival, then the next week was Warped tour. Another all day festival.

Needless to say, it was a LOT of work, and I was busy as hell!

I've finally got most of my stuff moved into the new place, and I even found some time to get work done on my website! CHECK IT OUT!

I will take some shots of the new place once I get a hammer and hang some photos on the wall, but until then, you will have to take my word for it being awesome.. Or you can always come visit...

I also submitted a talking panel to the South by Southwest (SXSW) Conference, and my idea made it through to the next round.. Voting takes place from Aug 17-Sept 4, and votes account for a whopping 30% of the total score needed to be chosen. The rest is judges and a conference panel.

Good news..

I have a full schedule for next month..


Really good news..

I have a new place that I will be moving into ASAP! Much closer to town, which means MORE STREET photography.. also means more shows I can attend and shoot..


Bad news..

Despite his best efforts, =drewdog24 could not recover the lost data from my crashed external HD. I will try once more at home, after initializing the drive (if i can) and then hand it off to a professional "CSI" data recovery specialist.

Which means.. I will be out hundreds of dollars.

Sucks.

If you have some extra dollars sitting around, and would like a print, let me know.. The money would help recover my lost data, which is REALLY important to me..

Not really news..

Ok, not really, but that was one of my first thoughts this morning..

I use a dual HD enclosure with two 500GB HDDs (not mirrored) to back up my files, and for the past few days I haven't needed it, so I kept it turned off, which has never been a probelm before..


yeah, you probably know were this is going..


Sadly, one of the two drives, isn't working.. Thankfully, it is the newest of the two, and therefore is almost empty.

but when I say almost empty, I mean 120-150gb


Fuck.


So I tried everything that you are supposed to, turning shit off, unplugging and restarting.

nothing.

Then I called some friends..


nothing negative, but a MAYBE..


So I headed down to the store to pick up software.. three hours later, I am now at home, backing up items from my desktop so that I can have enough room on my HD, should the files be retrievable.

*fingers crossed*

Best case scenario, I just spent $150 on the best program in the world.

Worse case scenario, I just wasted $150 on software that couldn't help, and will have to waste $500-1500 more, to get a professional data recovery specialist to retrieve the data.

Fuck. I hope the software works.


Its also times like this that makes me happy I don't have/care for porn, not like I would put it on my drives if I did, but I know several people with drives full off the stuff.

And if they want me to keep their names secret, they're gonna have to pay me

(kidding)


But really, my last journal is pointless now, as I will have NO way at all to go to Germany, but if you still want prints, it would REEEEEEEALLY help me.


So much for a nice day off to relax and work on my portfolio(s).

Hopefully you didn't believe the title..

The Brothers are in town tonight and tomorrow for two not-sold-out shows.. Didn't get confirmed for tonights show.. my life is over.. I wanted to see them sooooooooo bad!

Haha.. No, not really, but I did want to shoot them..

The up side to not shooting them, is I wont go deaf from a stadium full of preteen and tweenage girls screaming their heads off.. New Kids on the block were bad enough!

I applied just under the window for Green Day, so hopefully I get that one! I will be super excited if I do, since I grew up listening to Green Day, and have seen them live 3 times, but not since 2001 or before..

A good friend, ~DeepWidow is going to shoot MAYHEM festival in the states, and I am really jealous! I want to shoot polish metal band BEHEMOTH so bad! I've recently started listening to their music, and I like it.

So go head over to her page and wish her good luck at the festivals (she is shooting TWO dates!)

July is pretty boring, as far as shows go, so hopefully I will get this place I am going to look at tonight, and will be able to spend that time moving in, and getting everything set up

Also, ~turtlespooon just got back from "Rock The Bells" in Chicago, so he will have some killer pics to share soon!

Not really news..

Someone told me I updated my journal too often..


So I took three weeks off.. I kept meaning to do it, but I never got around to it.. spending to much time shooting, working, having fun, and talking to someone who I've been thinking about a lot lately too

First of all, congrats to ~turtlespooon on his first DD on his shot of Lady Sov I featured a while back in my journal.. he deserved it.

I got a new phone the other day.. The second thing I have ever 'bought' (it was free) on the day it came out.. the first being my D300. Its the new iPhone 3Gs, with video capabilities!

Not only that, but it has built in GPS, which my old one didnt..


And a compass..

Its sexy, 16gb, and white.. I was gonna go with black, but this way it matches my mac..


I spent the day hiding from clouds which never actually 'broke' so I didn't hit the lake like planned, but I did end up getting a LOT of work done around the house..

Completely Surprised.

I was checking my messages last night before bed, when someone congratulated me on a DD.. I didnt think anything of it, having just read the bottom part of their comment, so I went on to check todays DD's..

I was surprised to be amongst them, thats for sure.

Not really news..

I did a little bit of 'upgrading' to my website, and in the process, broke all the links that I have given out in deviations, emails, etc.


What I had done before, is made the sets a sub folder in the main HTML folder, which started to bog things down, as I have around 100 different galleries hosted..


so I moved everything into sub-subfolders..


I will probably have everything fixed in deviation links within the week.. but for now.. I posted my whole set of images using the LensBaby MUSE last month, and you can find that HERE



I was shooting the 2009 NightMarket last week, which is on until the end of summer, so the images I got will be added to, unlike last year, when I only went once.

I found, that not using a UV filter on the 50/1.8 saved me the headache of flares from the bright lights of the booths.. I took it off some time ago, and I must say.. DO NoT USE FILTERS on 50/1.* lenses.


I got to shoot the timeless New York Dolls, who want images from me for their official website!

Not really news..

It's been a week since my grandpa passed, and I managed to keep myself busy enough as to not think too much about it.. I want to thank everyone who sent condolences and well-wishes. They were very appreciated.

I shot Scott Weiland the other night, and I must say, for a lead singer gone solo, he is doing quite well. The crowd loved the show, and if it wasn't for the Commodore Ballroom's sound system not being able to handle STP's "Vaseline," I would have stayed longer.

I got some pictures I am very happy with, as well as at least one portfolio worthy shot.. I might post it here..

Last night, something weird happened. I posted a photo from Kreator last month, and really quickly it started getting lots of favs and some decent views..

The shot is

Right after midnight, I also noticed it was getting even more views and favs, so I was wondering what the hell happened, how people were seeing it.. It didn't get a DD, It wasn't in the Daily Top Favorites (it is now, #40ish).. so I'm wondering if someone with millions of watchers featured it?

Whatever happened, I submitted a second shot to capitalize on the success of the Kreator one..

In other news... Might be moving into a new place in June .. MUCH closer to the city.

I just got the news that my grandfather in NZ passed away at 2:30am, May 13, 2009. New Zealand time.

If I'm not around much, or in a bad mood for a few days, this is why.

In other, semi related news.. If I ever find out who stole my savings acct, Im going to punch them in the face, since I cant fly to NZ now.

Not really news..

THEY PULL ME BACK IN! (a little bit of a rant to clear my head)

And by that, I mean my bank is fucking up again.

When I cashed my cheque, at the same bank that is giving me problems (no time to start a new acct somewhere else yet), I changed my pin's and passwords, and thought I was done with stupid shit.

I went to buy my ticket to the Shambhalla festival today, and my credit card didn't work.. which was odd, because I took extra precautions lately, lowering my limits, etc..

but knew I had available funds, I made sure for the festival..

Turns out, the idiots at the bank, have moved the payment into a completely un-related bill, that did not need to be paid off, and now the money is gone..

Well, they can get it back, but it will take 10-15 business days..

*sigh*

I did get a new hard drive and dual enclosure to back up all my files today, so I'm happy about that purchase..

Not really news..

May is starting to look a little better already.

Shooting Testament tomorrow after work, and a Jewelry client on tuesday. Also booked a wedding, client agreed to pay up front, so I will have some money in my new bank (a cup on my dresser)

Speaking of banks.. I still have my account open at my last place, to A) pay bills, and B) get the money Metal Hammer owes me. Fuckers. So I cashed my cheque there the other day, and it took them 20 minutes.. so much for making up for stuff to a long time customer.. felt like they were 'keeping an eye' on me, so to speak, while they looked for the person who ripped me off..

Whatever.

I'll be buying my Shambhalla ticket this week, so I will be out of the internets for 5 whole days (in august), hanging out with hippies and *barkhouse686 camping and shooting, and enjoying some music in the middle of nowhere

Not really news..

I always book my birthday off months in advance, and would quit my job if I ever had to work it...

maybe..

I haven't had to go that far, in the last 10 years I have been working.

I took friday off and headed into town where I got some new ink done.. (pics coming) It had been a loooong 3.5 years since I got something, and I've gotta say, I missed it.

I had the old faded lines re-drawn, and some new detail and shading added, and I am really happy with how it looks now

Straight after that, I went downtown where I met up with the writer and editor of the magazine I work for, and we went and hung out backstage with veteran metal bands Kreator and Exodus..

The show was a blast, even tho metal bands seem to prefer red and yellow lights, I still got some decent b/w shots

I eventually got home around 1am

Then went out to do a shoot with a canadian rap star and some of the artists on his label. shot over 1300 frames, and surpassed the 40,000 mark in shutter thwaps at the same time.

Was a great shot, I must say.

Now, I am sitting at work, bored as hell trying to pass the time.. 2.5 more hrs to go

Tomorrow is my birthday. I be old. 26. I'll be getting my tattoo worked on, then I will be shooting a show in the city.


I am thinking about doing a limited print run of canvases to help me raise money to fix the bank problems I am having.

Would anyone be interested?

The ideas for edition print runs I am thinking of are:

$600 - METALLICA set of 4 11x14's signed and strictly numbered out of 3.. (1 print each: James, Kirk, Robert, Lars)

$250 - FLAMING LIPS 16x20 canvas print of front man Wayne Coyne from the Pemberton Festival 2008, signed by the photographer and strictly limited to 3

$250 - Street (see thumb below) 12x18 canvas print signed by the photographer and strictly numbered out of 5

Not really news..

Obsidian-Fox has 167,610 pageviews total and his 351 deviations were viewed 500,772 times.

I want to thank everyone who has taken the time to view, fav, and especially comment on my images, it means a lot to me to have met so many amazing people here on dA!

An update on the bank situation, I phoned the bank, and for them to even look at anything as a theft, I have to find time to get a bunch of papers signed and notarized.. I guess they are worried I will fuck them over.

Whatever.

So its going to take a long while to get this all sorted out. Hopefully some shoots come through, and I have some food money this week (either way ill be ok)

I did win $20 off ~turtlespooon, and at the same time, the Vancouver Canucks won their best of 7 series sweeping the ST. Louis Blues 4-0.

woo!

I feel bad kinda, cause he had tickets to game five, but the canucks would have won even without the bet.. (NHL Hockey for those who are wondering)


Even tho I have a cold, and the bank is stupid, this deviation made me smile.. taken from a moving bus!

Not really news..

I am a little sore about theft right now..

I work in a mall, so after some thought, I decided to go to the food-court for cheap and filling Chinese food, and much to my surprise, my debit (bank) card was declined.. I figured I made a mistake, so she swiped it again. declined.

I call my bank, and they say 'you withdrew all your money yesterday, Mr. Alexander'

After telling him that there was no chance I did that, and that I didn't authorize anyone to do it, he put me on hold for 5 minutes..

He came back telling me there was nothing he could do to get my money back, and that if has indeed been stolen, I was very unlikely to get it back.

I have to wait til Monday now, to even find out what happened.

Im out the spending/bill money that was in my chequings acct, which is about $420, and the trip money and savings in my savings acct, which was significantly more, and reserved for potential trips to Washington state (for Sasquatch festival) across BC (for Shambhala festival) to Toronto (for NXNE festival) and to NY (for Relaxation and street photography)

If I do get the money back, it will be early this summer.. 2-3months, I'm told..


Also.. I wasn't going to make a big deal about one of my images being stolen (again) at the same site that stole it before..

but it kinda ties in with what happened...

Easter Sunday in Harlem

I spotted this happy man coming out of the church ... he told me that he was a clothing salesman ... and that every Easter Sunday he puts on his full dress suit.

At a time of racial tension in many parts of the United States, Weegee's photographs showed an unusual sensitivity in their portrayal of minorities. Here, an African-American man in his best suit is surrounded by other churchgoers on Easter Sunday, 1940. Resplendent in coattails, top hat, and striped pants, the man radiates respectability and authority. His tired eyes are overshadowed by his brilliant smile. Compositionally, his top hat forms the peak of a triangle containing two women in white hats, one in the foreground, the other behind and to the right. Weegee's flash illuminates the man, a woman, and a well-dressed boy, while a cluster of other people crowd the scene from within the shadows.

Not really news..

I borrowed the new nikon 35mm F1.8 lens from work the other night, to get a feel for what, and how it produces images..

I have to say, for a DX lens, it really surprised me.

I am thinking about writing a review, and also thinking about buying the lens.

or should I just leave the reviews to the gearbators?

Lamb of God the other night was awesome.. Got to hang out backstage, eat the catered meals (delish) and have pretty much full run of the place, with one restriction of not shooting the crowd..

only a few shots of the crowd I wish I got.. people coming over the barrier, etc..


Ended up staying in the pit for 6 songs instead of the normal 3... Could have stayed for more, but decided to go home and sleep in my own bed, instead of borrowing the spare room of a good friend...

Part of the reason, I wanted to have a shower in the morning.. Turns out my shower is leaking through the roof..

You dont know how much you miss showers and/or baths until you have to wash yourself down with a cloth.. haha


I've taken Fallout bouy off my upcoming shoots.. more important things to do...

Not really news..

I may have almost got stabbed..

Maybe not, but it dawned on me after what could have happened.

At the main bus station where I work, this homeless disabled (in the head) guy got on the bus, which angered the guy beside me, who was plainly drunk, with a heavy scent of booze on his breath.. I kept to myself with my headphones in, but the guy next to me went to push the homeless man off the bus in an aggressive manner..

The driver took off, ok with what went on, which disturbed me a little, and the guy came and sat next to me again.. (the bus was full) half way through the ride home, he pulls something out of his bag, and starts acting all secretive.. A few minutes later, he leans over to me and whispers:

Hey bud, can you pull the cord for me?

So I pull it, with my right arm, (opposite side from him) and he looks at me with a kind of blank stare for a few seconds, then starts fiddling with whatever it is he was playing with before..

He gets off, but not before hiding, in plain sight of me, the handle of a large knife in his jeans..

I dont know why he would have stabbed me, or if that is what he was thinking, but it worried me for a while.. Thankfully my stop was after his.


Dreams..

I usually have several lucid dreams a night, but recently, its almost becoming hard to differentiate dreams and reality.. at least as far as waking up is concerned..

Does anyone else have lucid dreams often?

Not really news..

I like my job.

Except when it is so unbearably dull and boring like it is right now. Its actually painful to sit here on the computer getting paid to play online games, and browse facebook and deviantART..

I know, I shouldn't complain, but I would rather be busy. I cant really relax here, so doing nothing ends up taking as much out of me as if I was working.. plus, it makes time go slower..

Im weighing the pros and cons of finding a new job and place in Vancouver by August, and the pro column is winning..

Pros:

Able to cover more shows
closer to more events (journalistic or other)
closer to main attractions (like Stanley park)
Little to no cost for transit
Closer to my base clientele

Cons:

Much more expensive
Work (FT) is harder to find


when you look at it that way... I need to get the fuck out there ASAP.


If ANYONE wants to buy prints to help me pay my bills so I can move.. let me know

They really dropped the ball this year.

Im not one to revel in Aprils Fool, but I was expecting something funny.

Not really news..

I was walking downtown Vancouver this afternoon, taking in some frames with the MUSE lensbaby I borrowed from work, when a I saw a familiar face walking towards me on the grounds of the Vancouver art gallery..

It was Annie Leibovitz.

(If you dont know, Annie Leibovitz is one of my favorite photographers, and a major source of inspiration of mine)

I haven't found any news, or evidence she is actually in Vancouver, but the face, the hair, the glasses, and the fact she had a camera bag leads me to believe it was, in fact her.

I had to do a double take, when she looked over and smiled.. She was with two men I recognized as members of the Vancouver olympic committee (VANOC), looking at sites around the gallery and courthouse on the nice sunny day.

I wanted to say hi, and tell her that her work has been an inspiration (apart from some certain recent manipulations..), but I didn't want to bother her.

Im hoping to confirm that she is indeed here, but im 95% sure..


If I wasn't using a lensbaby, I would have gotten a hipshot at least..

Tonight is the opening gala of Vancouver Fashion week. Usually good to rub shoulders with designers, models, fellow photogs, etc..

I enjoy it a lot, maybe as much as music, but I don't post as much (by far) here.. Maybe I should..

I already have too many pictures in my gallery.. I dunno what to cull tho..

The weird thing about Vancouver Fashion Week is that it never used to be a super exclusive snobfest, but it is starting to become one.. At least, that is what it is looking like now.. Photographers who have put their time and effort into capturing the insignificant week, are now being pushed aside, as VFW takes on steam.

How to lose friends and alienate people, definately reading too much into that..

Now, if only music doesnt go down that road, with greedy promoters and... oh wait, nvm..

Not really news..

Below is my schedule for next week. A LOT of work, but I don't want to miss Fashion week, and the Juno's is a big deal.

I probably wont be around much to comment, look at deviations, or post, but I will try to write something as time permits about my day..

The next few days are not too bad, but I also have images to work on, and a room to clean, and useless shit to take photos of so I can sell them on Craigslist.

Not really news..

Shot Lady Gaga last night, and wow is she a hottie.

The blonde Uma Thurman inspired Pulp Fiction wig works really well on her, I must say..

I have tomorrow night and Saturday off to clean up at home, and work on processing portraits for friends and amazing musicians NINJASPY, who coincidentally have just released a new video, which you can check out HERE

Next week is going to be rough. That is at least, if I want to cover both VFW and Juno awards (and you know I do)

Fashion week has the distinction of not being the only Fashion event in Vancouver, so thankfully I have another chance next month to catch all the fashion I want..

I do enjoy them both, but if you've been watching me, you know music is a bigger passion of mine

I have been falling behind on comments and deviations, so I am going to try and catch up on those tonight, while I sit here at work in an almost deserted store..

Not really news..

A corny title, I know..

I shot Black Label Society last night, well, more accurately I shot Zack Wylde last night.

Plus of course the two opening acts who we were not actually approved for, apparently, but the promoters were not on top of things last night.. I think the crowd was too scary

There was a LOT of beer flying, and thankfully I only got hit 3 times.. That wasn't as bad as the Black Label Banner that came crashing down on the photographers.. stupid.. wtf did they think was going to happen?

Not only, but a polite member of the stage crew came over and told us to get the fuck out after the second song.. how nice of him!

I might post something here, not sure yet.. still have a lot of Metallica and Lamb of God to consider posting..

Not really news..

So, I've recently been laundering money.

Well, I forgot my wallet in my jeans pocket and threw them in the wash, that counts right? A handful of 20's and some bus tickets are drying out in the living room..

thankfully I took most of the paper I was storing in there out this morning, so I have not lost some important notes and stuff I was keeping, but its still annoying..

I also got TWO new full frame cameras! One is a russian made rangefinder, a ZORKI, which I am super excited about, and the other is a pentax K1000 with a broken meter.. (not that i need a meter) I threw a roll through it, and I exposed it pretty well, so I think I will bring it around more often.. maybe leave my D300 at home from now on..

other than that, had some exciting shoots this past weekend, one for a client, and one for a friend, and am looking forward to processing the images for the friend.. the client work isn't due for two weeks, so all is good.

Vancouver Fashion Week is coming up, and I will be working through half of it.. So since I have a pretty much free pass to shoot it without credentials, I am going to get my friend ~turtlespooon to shoot the days that I cant attend.

I want to figure out how to load my zorki properly, and shoot with that

Not really news..

I've updated my shooting schedule below, and I will be busy busy busy this month.

Also, I have come to the realization that dA's compression system does not like greyscale images.

That means, the images I have submitted in grayscale mode look like shit because they are not RGB.

So as a warning to everyone who submits black and white images, make sure they are saved in an RGB color space, to avoid losses in quality during dA's compression.

If anyone has any better ideas, let me know!

Not really news..

I dug through my 2008 archive a little bit last night, and realized I had a shitload of images.

480ish GB of photos through all of 2008. reminds me I need to back-up the back-up, and put it in a safe deposit box or something..

Anyways, I need to go through it, find the sets I am happy with, and post them online, and through those all, make portfolios of the best shots from each genre..

The task is fucking huge.

Not to mention I still have to design the rest of the website, and design the portfolio.

its not as much as some people, I know, and I am lucky enough to have shot enough images in 2008, to not care about the digital of 2007, or the film of 2006 back.

I think I should have been working on this yesterday, instead of sleeping in, and lounging around the house..

not to mention, not doing the laundry...

bah..

I almost need to hire an assistant.

Thank you to everyone who commented on my last journal, helping me pick some shots to submit to a contest

My uber-pal Thorsten linked me this a while ago, and I want to share it with anyone who reads this journal instead of deleting it

There is only 7 days left to submit 1-12 shots from 2008 (UNEDITED!!!)

So that means photoshop cheaters cant enter..

good riddance

Im also going to be writing a news article about shooting musicians and bands, so keep an eye out for that in the next few days, maybe hours if I get on a roll..

I might be moving sooner than expected if a perticular suite becomes available, bringing me one full hour closer to the city!

I hope everything works out for this one!

If anyone wants to cross their fingers, pray to the devil, or what ever other entity for me to get credentials to shoot coachella, i'd be eternally grateful!

Another tip I can offer: Dont procrastinate on laundry because you have a day off coming up.

I was called in to work today, on my day off (which isnt really a problem) but I had to search high and low for clean clothes.

I keep an emergency supply of underwear for just such an occasion

Anyways..

Kinda makes me wish I had put some laundry on last night while watching House, and Heroes.

As far as this working and being a photographer is going, its not too bad, but schedualing shoots is a little difficult.

I have three local bands who want portraits, a burlesque dancer (oh la la) a product shoot, and the numerous concerts and interviews I cant even wrap my head around..

I need to make use of the calender in my iPhone, which I absolutely LOVE.

so yeah, at least the new Morrissey album is out today.

Not really news..

I was shooting an event today, a large march in Vancouver, which had several other cities in Canada participating at the same time. There were a lot of journalists there, and I was wearing my iron maiden hoodie.

Several times during the day the other photojournalists would walk by me, scoping out my gear, and how it hasn't been marred by electrical tape or gaffers tape..

The march was well under way when I heard a group of them talking next to me on the hill.. "Ok, good light, got the shot, going home now.."

I know some of these people are on assignment, and have to get the images back asap, but a) its Saturday, and b) it wasn't even 2pm..

So I watched two or three of them walk away mid march, and ran to get back to the front of the pack.

Are you media/press, etc?

I often get asked that..

I usually reply with:

"Nope, just a street photographer."


My biggest tip to everyone who wants to be a photojournalist is:

Get the shots you need to get, but go above and beyond. Capture emotion, capture humanity, and you will be remembered.

Don't become one of those people who make photography their 'job' keep it your passion.

I think one of the big things that draws me to street photography is the uniqueness of each shot, how even tho there are similar frames being made all over the world, they each have something that makes them special.

I've seen way too many water drop macro shots, flowers, and stuff like that, and I cant appreciate them any more.

I want to challenge everyone who takes pictures of flowers and water drops to take a picture that stirs up the pot a little.

Something new.

Something interesting.

Something that doesnt simply focus on a single drop of water on a flower.

Im not talking about anyone here, Im more talking to the people who think this is talking about them, and would like to accept this challenge.

Create something unique.

not really news..

So my iPhone is working again.

I was entirely too worked up about it not working, but whatever, I'm entitled I just wanted to listen to some NINJASPY!

Anyways, I spent hours trying to figure it out on my mac, and several phone calls and emails to people who advertise unlocking services for $50 or less..

Then our printer breaks down at the lab.

Call super amazing mega fix it guy andrew (aka =drewdog24) and he fixes the computer in seconds.. much to the delight of both me and the boss..

then we get to talking about my brick of an iPhone, and he takes it home to try and get it working for me.

2hrs later, he calls me at work, from my phone, and drops it off for me.

I dont know why i didnt think to ask him first.. took him a total of 10mins..

I dont care that people say my watermark is distracting, but after some certain people said something, I think maybe I should change it up.

Worst day off ever.

Trying for hours to re-unlock my 2G iphone after itunes fucked it up, and I had to restore it.

I tried using the pwnagetool, but it doesnt want to let me restore the phone from the custom ipsw file I make..

So if anyone can get me a link or something to a site that works, I really dont want to pay to unlock and jailbreak this thing again...

As it is now, I am at the emergency slider screen..

not really news..

I know I am.. ( continued after 'stolen' )

My friend and co-worker ~turtlespooon just lost his whole life (pretty much), the story is in his journal.. If you can, head over there and see if there is any images of his you would like as a print or something, to help him get back his lost gear..

... back to being excited..

I sometimes have these ideas.. Sitting on the bus, standing under the boiling water in the shower, wherever..

Sometimes these ideas are forgotten, but sometimes they are so perfect, I cant help but get super excited about it.

It involves the secret project I am working on, so I wont go into too much detail, but I basically found a way to double the size and chances of success without doubling the work.. All I need now, is to meet with people I still want on the team, and find some investors.

I messaged =freakoftheeast with several profanities tonight after the idea popped into my head, and he seemed just as excited as I was.. if my overuse of the F word was any indication that I was excited or not, I am not quite sure.

Anyways..

I promised I would submit my ' Photolutions ' so here they are.. (in a shorter form)

1) - Find muse
2) - Start project
3) - New Studio - downtown Vancouver (ish)
4) - portraits (has to be secret for now)
4a) - Time machine lighting system.. If it works, it will be unique!
5) - Finish website and recruit clients
6) - Gear. (bodies: D700, M6) (lenses: 135/2, 50/1.4, 24-70/2.8, 50/2)
7) - New York. 2-4 weeks in the unofficial capitol of the world.
8) - Plan for India (K to K)
9) - Street Photography book
10) - Europe!

#10 is basically collecting all the beers I am owed from friends and acquaintances in as many european countries as I can..

not really news..

I find myself enjoying work again, after taking 11 of the last 12 months off to concentrate on my photography. (to great effect also, mind you! )

I was able to live off what I was making, and enjoy some luxuries, like a new laptop, and some other stuff, but a full time job is nice too..

After the last year, I still find myself in photographer mode, having been published 29 times online (more I dont know about), and 56 times in print, since June 2008. (not including two pending other magazines)

Its not as much by far as some, but it is a BIG deal to me, and I am thankful to everyone who helped me get there.. Especially D, A, and C

Im going to try to lead the double life for a while.. Camera sales man by day, and rock and roll photographer by night.. .. Just to see how it works out.

I have a lot of people interested in me right now, so I have my work cut out for myself.


As far as "photolutions" its just a non existant word I made up, that people seem to like..

Does anyone else have ' photo-resolutions ' that they wrote out like new years resolutions?

I have a page of 10 of them, that maybe I might share...

If of course, you want me to..

I was thinking that If there was a band made up of:

Jim Morisson (Doors) - Vocals
Shannon Hoon (blind melon) - Vocals
Jimmy Hendrix - Guitar
John Entwistle (who) - Bass
John Bonham (zep) - Drums

It would be the perfect rock band..

Do you agree, or would you change it around any?
