Harry Potter and the what? spoilers ahead?

Soooo, I saw it. I have to admit, after what I had heard, I wasn't too thrilled when I stepped into the dark room. But well, I guess I'm a HP nerd who wanted to see it anyway
So there.

Low expectations.
Good surprise.

It was in my opinion a fair adaptation. Of course, part of me screamed at some... details that were tweaked, some paths that didn't really follow the book storyline, or some characters that behave a bit strangely. But it's an adaptation, right? So why do we care? If I want the book story I'll read the book...

Why I liked it:
- Snape was as good as ever.
- Hermione was cuter than the previous movie, just as every movie (yes, in The Sorcerer's Stone she was better than in The Locked Broom Closet )
- Beautiful landscapes as always.
- Classes! They ARE in a school! Incredible! Oh, and even classes that are not their year! That hasn't happened since movie #1!
- Birds around Hermione. Loved that part in the book, it was pretty nice in the movie.
- Luna.
- Bellatrix. She left me unimpressed in the previous movie, but she was better actually.
- Quidditch!
- Rupert's love expression is priceless!

Why I didn't like it:
- 45 seconds of Tonks? Are you kidding me?
- Once again, Ron is demoted from the heart of the group to the stomach of the group.
- As always, Daniel Radcliffe proves to have the acting skills of a broomstick. EXCEPT when he acts like a moron under the influence of Felix Felicis. I grinned all the way.
- Narcissa. Seriously, what the lol? She's supposed to be a beautiful, pale, blonde woman. She lacks the beautiful and half of the blonde part.
- No "DON'T CALL ME COWARD!"? awww Plus, "I'm the HBP. kthxbai." And that's all? noooo!
- No funeral? lolwhut?

About other details... Where was Slughorn's big moustache? Where is his advanced baldness and his big belly? I don't want a new Fudge-looking guy!
The battle in Hogwarts? none
I don't remember Neville to have Potions in the book.
Cho was in the movie? Where? in the crowd at the end? she was credited anyway.
Did the ghoul in the Weasley's attic burn? And speaking of the Weasleys, I was unconvinced by the twins this time. I tried, but no.
I'm sure I'm forgetting some...

SO... It was a nice way to spend 2h40. I was pretty sure I'd be disappointed, I'm glad I wasn't.

Brad Borne, the maker of the excellent Fancy Pants Adventure game, is currently developing the 2D version (in flash) of Mirror's Edge So far it's only a beta-demo of a first level, but people can still play it and enjoy the smoothness of the movements. If you've played Fancy Pants, you can instantly notice the similarity between the gameplay of the two games (one being of course a tad more realistic).

From afar, you can see a face. Zoom in and you can see a scene from the Passion. Great Nice Reminds me a bit of *amartinsdebarros' works.
A very nice composition, idea, and stuff.

The problem is that this pic was stolen. The deviant (appropriate name?) said herself in several devs that "she didn't remember where it came from, but she liked it". Another example of how "photobucket" can be dA?
What I don't get is how this pic arrived on the popular section. Well, I guess the 135 faves have something to do with this. Maybe people saw it in "newly submitted" and said "WOW LULZ GRRT SHTUF +FAV LOL" without trying to dig further in the depths of a promising (or not ) gallery...

This journal is not supposed to have a point. I just wanted to show it. (I do not try to rant about the popular system, I haven't tried yet to understand how it really works. Maybe later)

Teh fuxorz!
10 days ago, out DSL decided to die. Just like that. Poof. So now, I use dial-up at 28.8kbps, and I won't be sorry when it's fixed.
Explaining why I wasn't often online these days, and why I'm deciding to stop doing the "journal story" I've started not so long ago. That interruption in my schedules have caused my muse to wander away for a while, and I don't think I'll start again (I may actually delete the previous entries). And if I do start again, it will not be on dA. So that was fun, that could have been, depending on how people would have reacted, but I'm stopping here.

I've got a new sketchbook, with bigger sheets than my previous one (that was not even a real sketchbook actually), and better ones too, and I have inspiration, and stuff, and time, so I may update more often (if my connection allows it )

All that free time made me get back to Final Fantasy 7 (aaaah, good ol' times) and Kingdom Hearts 2... As I already know them both by heart, I decided to go on some challenges (low level, no aptitudes, that kind of funny things that makes you look like a complete no-life. I almost feel like one. Well, almost, but not quite: I still go outside to buy food, walk, even write journals like that while I could play ). When you master the system, Sephiroth in hard mode at low level is a piece of cake

Last thing of this mostly useless journal, I may have found what I'm gonna do next year. A 3-year course for a nice diploma (yes, when I finish my studies I'll be close to retirement <_< )
At last something good after the more or less active waiting.

Some of you have expressed opinions and/or doubts about my 3 previous journals.
I am aware that my recent journals may look strange. Maybe they could fit better under the "litterature" tag in a gallery. But I thought putting it in a journal form could seem more "alive", nicer, with the features that allow me to use CSS (on which I can improve thanks to that, it's a kind of motivation) or include images or that kind of things. Because I wanted to develop that. Very soon, it would become obvious that this is fiction, I'm sorry if the beginning is a bit slow, but in a "blog" thing, that's how I see it.

I decided to do that at first to improve my imagination, my english skills, and my CSS skills (as a bonus)

I thought. And it was hard, I'm not really used to it.
And then I SAW the truth. I was tricked. Tricked by this girl who was too much on TV to be totally honest. I absolutely didn't see any of these shows, but if she was everywhere, she cannot be good... How could I be tricked by this girl whose only purpose when taking a plane is to show everyone her crotch (from a plane seat)? How could I possibly believe she was honest in the beginning, and just wanted to take a plane, but some (patriotic, keeper of the good ethic) stewart said she couldn't cause she obviously forgot her skirt and had only a belt. I feel dumb...

OR. Or maybe I'm wrong. Maybe the problem's not coming from her, or him. Or even the company.
Maybe the problem's coming from a bigger thing?
From a country where half of the population cannot place Iraq on a map, where part of that half cannot even place their OWN state on this map, and where, during some hot events that occured in France 2 years ago, showed on national TV a map with some of our biggest cities "a bit" out of place (like Toulouse almost in Germany... I wanted to laugh but couldn't)?
From a country where you can have 2 pounds of meat for one person in a meal (free if you can finish it within the time limit), but cannot deal with hunger (I don't pretend they could help the whole world, but even inside this country)?
From a country that will spend only little money for social economy, but will spend billions of dollars a week for a (useful?) war?
From a country with such a 2nd amendment?

Or not. I'm not from there. I cannot understand, and I've tried.

So I fail. I said I'd never ever own a gaming station in my life. Ever.
Well, it worthed it or not.
Cause now I'm totally addicted to Kingdom Hearts (1 and 2). Addicted enough to play more than 12 hours straight, ruining my social life (that was already quite a legend), my health (cause sitting and eating and doing sport with only thumbs is not what any good doc would call "healthy" ), and my brain (even if in this case, it was hopeless since I was born ).
But... I mean, when I played KH2, I was totally into it. Seeing the ball room from Beauty and the Beast, walking there and seeing it move, listening to Ariel singing, acting in the world of the very first Mickey Mouse cartoon, was something enjoyable And the moves, techniques, magic and stuff... Maybe I'm still a kid, but I loved it. And don't say I'm weird. I already know that

Leaving tomorrow morning to Paris, I'll be away from any computer for like a bit more than a week. Away from HP too, I don't think I'll go to the midnight release (well, 1am, since it's GMT+1 where I live), and I'll probably have to wait a long time before I can lay a hand on HP: DH.

But that doesn't really matter cause I have lost interest in almost everything right now

July 14th + stuff

So... Tonight was a beeg firework in Nantes for July 14th.

For those of you who don't know what that means, it's just France national day. I've always found it kinda funny to celebrate the day that led to one of the biggest slaughter in the history of France, but whatever. Just enjoy the fireworks while we think about the people (men, women and kids) who were decapitated for freedom and equity, because they were not from the "lowest classes". And those who were considered nobles even if they weren't. You didn't invent MacCarthyism, just the word

Anyway... The firework was great ^^ not the best I've seen yet, but definitely good we were on the perfect place, I could see the place where the rockets were launched, at about 600 feet maximum from me. Greatly enjoyable show, with lots of people. They were totally over 9,000! (more like 90,000, probably even more)
So yeah. Let's celebrate _{_{the death of thousands innocent people}}. I personaly won't sing the marseillaise today (meaning it will be a totally normal day for me, except there will be no mail (yay, just when I'm waiting an important letter from my possible future school. This kind of things are annoying, mais d'une force!).

Sentai School 4!

I guess there are not many people to know that among my watchers. But I have to wait until I see HP5 or read HP7, so there. Sentai School, vol. 4.
It's not a manga, it's not a comic book, it's a mix. And it's comic. I laffed. hard. I thought it couldn't be as good as the first volumes of Sentai School but as reading it, I was liek lol omg j0r!

So yeah, say hi to *dekarogue, the drawer, and be careful if you're under 18. The book does not have nudity, but his dA gallery does

Time for a rant

Here is the (short) story of a movie, currently in preproduction. This movie is based on a computer game released in Feb. 2000. This game is also the top 1 of the best sales... See where I'm coming? Yeah, The Sims is currently being adapted to big screen...

So yeah... that could be good, if they had taken the right people. But...
C'mon... It will be commited by Brian Lynch at the writing (Scary Movie 3, Big Helium Dog) and John Davis at the production (Norbit, Eragon). Please... Kill me. Now.

WHY DID THEY DO THIS? Seriously... It has no story, no interest in making a movie (just the licence, for money)... Why not make a Desperate Housewives movie instead? (not that I like (I don't), but it'd have a story (sorta)).
Why didn't they take the 2nd best sales game? Like Starcraft? (yeah, I'm biased, but everyone is).

So yeah... Disgust

I really enjoyed it, but it has some side-effects:

- Now I have the music by the fabulous Hans Zimmer _{(note for later: build an altar for him and Klaus Badelt)} in my head. But it's not actually a very annoying side-effect.
- I want to see it again

No spoilers, so I won't say anymore for now. Just that... Not-scruffy, wigged Norrington

My life is so great, so I'll share it with you...

I played Guitar Hero yesterday (I don't know which one). So fun, but too short, and I couldn't even play in an other difficulty level than easy (not so fun, and very frustrating if you couldn't tell).

Made a new character in Baldur's Gate, and I got a roll of 99. Best roll ever in my life ever ever. Ever.

Someone forced me to play djembe today... it was not bad, but there was an audience well, I'm not dead, so I guess it was really not so bad.

I don't like the 2 people who were first in the presidential elections, but I can do nothing about that now. I voted, but... well, we'll see for 2nd round.

My life is so wonderful... I'm awesome, aren't I?

Simply because I don't want to be famous for my art. I mean, look at what kind of comments you can get when you're famous! click at your own risk...

Are you just stupid? It's like putting thousands of exclamation marks in the end of each phrase or writing only with upper case letters. It's not more readable, it's not even readable
Grow up! Think about the others! (I know you won't follow what I say, I wouldn't either. But at least I've said it )

Besides the fact that one can get annoying messages (or worse), I don't want to spend more time reading comments or replying to them than I spent doing my, em... "art"?

Hi there

S'been a long time heh? (no submission, no journal,... yet some activity)
So here are some random news/~~thoughts~~/things/whatever

I have a car!!
A Clio (Renault, european). Nice, not too old, I like it ^^ Everything is better than the old 2CV I was driving ...
So yeah, that's my first own car.
(No, I have no photo of it)

I played a bit with a Wii (only a bit... A tennis game, and a few minutes on Twilight Princess). That was nice, but a bit disturbing too I mean, could you imagine a few years ago that you would be able to smash and lob with a white stick in your hand without a wire three steps from your screen? Or do the tornado slash with Link's sword by waving the same remote control?
Anyway, it's a nice thing Of course, the tennis or boxing game are funnier with more than one player.

2 weeks until the end of my internship (report/presentation included)
I can't believe it's almost over... Where is my remote control with the "slow down" button? Time flies like a F22.

Oh, I feel artistic in some ways right now... So expect maybe some new things.
Also, I can't record my ocarina, when it reaches high notes my mic acts funny Maybe when I have a better mic...

Booyaka!

I've been thinking (yarly). For now 5 months, more than 50% of my activity on the Internet has been in english (reading and writing). A langage that was not natural for me, and which is still not yet completely natural.

I mean, sometimes I think in english, but I have to force myself most of the time. I don't just switch from french to english (and sometimes it's even worse, I have to translate from the french phrase to english, although it's much better to build the phrases directly in the language you want to talk/write).
But I'm beginning to slowly become more fluent in english, and consequently it starts to be more natural for me. _{I even had some dreams in english}

And that's what I've thought:

Sometimes it looks like we're slowly heading towards an anti-Babel situation.
Well, certaines personnes comprennent quand j'écris comme ça, pero no entienden cuando escribo como eso, oder wie das... And vice versa... We're in a cosmopolitan world now, and comprehension is one of its main keys. More and more people can understand at least two different languages nowadays (one of them seems to be english (or english-like, because american isn't english ))

Yeah, I think it's easy to find counterarguments, but I just wanted to say what I was thinking...

For those who never ever read hot topics (they were a lot to be surprised when dA changed to v.5...), dA has developped a new submission process which seems interesting.
You can just check here: [link]

I like it. Everything is in the same window, you don't have the step-by-step process anymore, making it easier to browse. You don't have to choose your category first, and you can change it anytime even when you choose your file.
The category works now more like the mood: you choose a category, then its sub-category,... or you can choose in the categories you frequently use (actually, these are the categories you've already used, not necessarily often)
Plus some other pretty cool things (imho).

For some reason, today seems to be the day of Halloween. A celebration which is now almost completely forgotten (maybe even "forbidden", but not quite) in France, with only 3 or 4 stores with a jack o' lantern, some spiderwebs and a flashy-orange-and-black decoration in the average downtown.

All Hallows' Eve has disappeard from the french landscape and they seem to be happy about it. I can see here on a board "tonight, halloween party from 21 to 2", there a little lantern. The old country doesn't believe in old legends anymore.

I say "they" because I'm not among those who reject Halloween. I don't accept it either. That's just another celebration for those who want it...

I mean, what do I hear about Halloween in France? "It doesn't belong to our folklore", "a pretext for another commercial thing". Okay, think a minute (I know you can)... Think about the old times, when Gaul was the land of your ancestors. Think about Samhain which was a major celebration (and the predecessor of Halloween).
Is that because of the Church? Because All Saint's Day is better? All Saint's Day which was previously a bit after the Pentecost?
Christmas isn't a commercial celebration? suuure...

I don't want to continue, my english is too bad for this (I'm supposed to talk to french people... there must be a flaw in my logic somewhere). But we live in a world where communication has made (almost) everyone closer, confronting ideas, politics, religions and celebrations. We have to accept the opinions of other people. You, who are lucky because you can actually afford an Internet connection, should know that. Discrimination and reject of what is different was good for our ancestors, but we're now in a cosmopolitan society...

So yeah, for this year, "The grass is blue, the sky is green, there will be no Halloween".

I'm on dA for now more than 2 years, yay!
And nothing productive in mah gallery, yay... ... but it's probably gonna change. Maybe during the last 2 weeks of 2006, maybe after. But what is absolutely sure is that there will be changes.

In exactly one week starts the 7th edition of Utopiales.
Utopiales? Watzat?

Utopiales is an international festival of science-fiction in Nantes, Fwance. This year will be centered mainly around Sci-fi throughout Communism (the title is "Invaders from Marx" (Karl, not Groucho_{or Minnie_{or Paul_{or Richard or...}}})), although there will be the usual bunch of conferences, roleplaying games, movies and bookz0rz (). And yeah, no cosplays or disguises, that's not that kind of convention here.
BUT there is a problem... Utopiales is from nov 2nd to 5th, and... it's school holiday, but I'm not in school, so that's 2 days of potentially interesting features that just vanish in the air without a trace I can only hope that I won't miss something important to meh (2 years ago I missed John Howe because he was there only during the friday and I had an exam )

ANYWAY, I really hope it will be nice this year (I'm probably going with mah lil' bro ~Valmoer). And I hope Sandrine Gestin has her stand again (wonnnnderful drawer: faiseurs.com (in fwench))

Oh, and good news, the bad cold I had caught is almost gone, yay!

New Header, yay!

As you may have noticed with my new banner, the name Bootstrap has taken a little place in my life (yay for euphemisms! )

So... Where does this name come from?
No dear geeks, it doesn't come from the computings bootstrap.
No dear mathematicians, that does not come from statistics.
Not from linguistics or physics either...

Well, my real name is Guillaume, which is the french for William, which is also Will or Bill. And some friends from #PotterShare, who were completely into the movie Pirates of the Carribean at the moment, named me like Bill "Bootstrap" Turner (but luckily, I don't look like him )

Yay! A new journal at last!

Life could be worse... but it's not
My internship is good, I have a great mentor (is that the right word?), the subject is interesting, and... I may be paid That's not sure for now, but I do have some clues.
I'm not sick anymore. THAT's a good news! (But I'll probably be sick for Christmas like I was the last 3 years -__-)

Art isn't going very well for me... Writer's block, and drawer's incompetence. So I guess the solution is training for one, and patience for the other. Or training too. Well, if I write a bit everyday, on everyting and nothing, maybe I'll see something. Sure, if I don't do anything, I will never improve --this works for music too--. (many many 'ings' here )
So GOGOGO! (without forgetting the internship, of course)

I want to travel. Go see the world (and peeble, yes). I want to really poke Keehm, to really tease Stacy (t3h glompage would be too much I think), to... to really meet everyone But is it possible? I mean, I'm here, in France, and the people I want to see are on the other side of an ocean. That's not like we don't have the technology, but do I have the time? the money? the opportunity?

(My mind is really blank... I can't think of a correct UPJS outfit, a header and/or a footer for my journal,... So many things to do, and I don't want to do anything . No. Think. Work. You can do it! Yay! )

Hi peeble

Last journal before my subscription ends (btw, I'd like to thank once again =ArtisticAunJuli for this, even if it was 'just' for a kiriban ), I have not much to say, but I'll say it anyways.

I have some doubts about the way I've chosen my studies... I feel like I've been totally mistaken. But that would be a complete waste of time during the last five years. I don't know if I'm right or wrong now, but I feel like I really was wrong.
That was really stupid for me not to have seen that earlier, and I feel sorry for those who endured the consequences of my mistakes. I really don't know what to do now, even if I have some faint ideas...

Well, that was not a waste of time, in some ways. I met people, I learnt things, I discovered myself (but sadfully only a bit), I was living... but I feel like I've wasted many moments by not doing what I was supposed to do (and I'm becoming more and more confusing (a bit confused too)).
I'll stop here or I'm going to show that I can have a really bad english.

Thanks to everyone that supported me, you really didn't have to. Now I have to figure out what's hidden in my brain.

Etant donné que tout le monde maintenant (ou presque ) est libéré des études et passe son temps sur la plage, à la montagne ou devant son ordi, je vais faire un peu de pub pour mes watchés. Y'en a que j'adore, y'en a qui sont géniaux, et y'en a (malheureusement) qui sont seulement super... (les autres sont compris dans cette marge)

Bonjour

Rien de bien neuf sous le soleil... l'été a commencé, un été que je vais passer dans un bureau pour mon stage de fin d'année. Rien de dramatique, mais ça fera les premières vacances d'été que je vais sauter. Nouvelles expériences en perspective.
Enfin bon, je suis content d'être revenu à Nantes, ça commençait à me manquer. J'y passais juste le week-end pendant le reste de l'année, mais je n'avais jamais le temps d'y faire quoi que ce soit... là, au moins, je pourrai au moins m'y promener le soir (Vannes, c'est bien, mais c'est vide et d'un ennui mortel). Et pourquoi pas revoir un peu mon photographe préféré s'il reste dans le coin quelques jours, histoire de... Et pis y'a mon p'tit frère.

Pas vraiment de projets de nouvelles déviations en cours, peut-être un début de démarrage d'esquisses de dessins, mais rien de fixe encore. Les idées sont dans ma tête, mais il me manque quand même le style.
Côté écriture, c'est le contraire. Les gens me disent que j'écris bien, mais en ce moment les idées ne se bousculent pas au portillon. On verra si ça vient dans le courant de l'été, ou si la chaleur a vraiment un effet négatif et engourdissant sur mes neurones.

Récemment est passé sur les chaînes hertziennes françaises "Lara Croft : Tomb Raider" (au passage, prononcez "toum rèdeur"), et j'ai été frappé par un détail qui m'était déjà apparu au cinéma (eh oui, je suis allé le voir... hontehontehonte)

Le détail en question est d'ordre astronomique (dans tous les sens du terme) : l'intrigue se base autour d'un alignement parfait des planètes. Bon, jusque-là, c'est à la rigueur possible, je n'ai pas essayé de calculer la fréquence et la probabilité d'apparition de cet événement. Ce qui choque, après, c'est que les planètes arrivent presque UNE PAR UNE... "Bon. Mars est en place, on va attendre Jupiter la nuit prochaine." Et ça, c'est n'importe quoi.

Je suis conscient que le film n'est pas à but pédagogique, mais de là à aller à l'envers de la physique (une statue en pierre qui s'anime, d'accord, ça a été fait dans le jeu, les enfants comprendront, mais ce qui touche au quotidien (comprenez l'astronomie), là, je ne suis pas d'accord).

J'ai aussi conscience que je râle dans le vide, mais au moins ça fait du bien de parler un peu au monde entier.

Cette nuit (la nuit du 8 au 9 octobre), aux environs de 2 heures du matin (10/8/2004 8:00 pm in NY), jusqu'Ã 5 heures environ, un orage a Ã©clatÃ©, zÃ©brant le ciel de rayons mortels. HÃ©las, mortels aussi pour les bÃ¢timents, et Ã un moment dans cet orage, le relais ADSL a lÃ¢chÃ©, nous laissant dans l'impossibilitÃ© de se connecter Ã la vitesse habituelle. Nous avons tant bien que mal rÃ©ussi Ã rÃ©tablir une connexion (28.8 k, mais bon...)

They do believe that Earth was created 6,000 years ago, that humans and dinosaurs were living together (I didn't say "in peace"), and some other things that I find actually quite difficult to believe.

I admit that I was in shock when I heard that. Seriously. It's... unbelievable

I know that you can't force anyone to believe in what they don't want to believe. In case of doubt, deny every definition... like, "Carbon 14? I does not work, carbon has been created 6,000 years ago, if it tells that something is older than that, your methods are wrong."
So I won't force you to understand if you disagree, but I just ask you this: are there people here who sincerly believe that the world was created in 7 days, 6,000 years ago?

I'm just surprised, not that people actually believe that, but that so many people believe that
