Next semester I'm going to try and put aside time to paint, so that I actually do it. A friend of mine told me that's the only ting that's going to work when I don't paint or draw every day like I did last year and the year before that.

Anyways. My dad was bragging about how well I drove around that parking space...
He's supposed to do that, right? I'm having another lesson with the driving school next week...I'm looking forward to actually starting to drive. I think this is something I'm going to like doing.
I'm hoping to have the drivers license before my 15-year-old sister is allowed to start practicing...hehe

So...

17th of May is Norway's constitution-day, we celebrate this day by parading and waving flags around...In Norway we don't really show off our military in the parade as many other countries do, we show off all our children in "barnetoget" (Children's parade) they walk behind a banner of each school, waving flags and cheering, teams and other organizations parade in the citizen's parade. It is a day of celebration, ice cream, hot dogs, flags, national costumes and (hopefully) sun. Yesterday was a nice day, I had a really good day watching the citizen's parade and I allso walked in "russetoget" wich is the third parade of may 17th In "Russetoget" all us "russ" (graduates from Norway's form of high school) dance our way through the city.

And now: Russ, the Norwegian phenomen.
students who graduate from high school are called russ and celebrate with the characteristic festivities ("russefeiring") during the first few weeks of May, from first of May untill 17th of May.
There are many local variations of the russefeiring but the spirit of the celebration remains uniform across the country; it is a symbol of breaking free from the neccesary shackles handed down by parents intended for the young generation's well-being and protection. It is a rite of passage, an abrupt way of ending childhood and of entering into adulthood, but it also marks accomplishing high school.
Types of russ

There are several different types of russ; differing in colour of their caps and traditional uniforms (which most students carry during the entire russ period).

Red (rødruss)
Allmennfag (general studies) (mathematics, physics, biology, history, literature, English etc); media and communication, art, music, dance and drama; and athletics. This is by far the most common color.
Blue (blåruss)
Allmennfag (with economics).
Black (svartruss)
Vocational courses (like electronics or carpentry). Since Norwegian vocational studies consist of 2 years of schooling and 1 or 2 years of apprenticeship, black russ can choose to celebrate a year earlier than the others or to celebrate in multiple years.
Green (grønnruss)
Agricultural courses.

Russ knots

The russ knot list was first introduced in the 1940s. The Russ knots, comparable to badges, is a common name for a wide variety of trophies symbolising fullfilling a certain accomplishment during the festivities. There are a plethora of local knot rules for earning knots, as well as local variations for the same type of knot. The knot itself often consist of an item representing the acomplishment. For instance passing through the back seat of a car stopping on a red light, earns you a piece of menthos paper. These knots are then knitted and strung along the line extending from the russe hat, hence the name knot. The knot rules are sometimes criticized because it can involve illegal acts, such as public nudity, beating a person with a pink feather (earns a black feather) and possibly hazardous actions, such as consuming large amounts of alcohol in a short amount of time (earns a beer cap). Other, more benign tasks exist, such as putting a for sale sign on a police car, kissing a person of the same sex (pink feather), or spending the night at a teacher's house and making him/her breakfast in the morning, all without being noticed.
This is rather silly, I admit.

Russ cards (Russekort)
Most russ have personalized calling cards featuring their name, their photograph and a short slogan. These cards are swapped with other russ and handed out to children or family members; for many children, collecting huge amounts of russ cards is an important activity during May, culminating on May 17. And the children are actually crazy, they run towards us screaming...I actually saw two ten year old boys inside our school the other day, collecting russekort....

Even though this might sound like an equally fun, equally silly tradition, there are allso some right down stupid things about it...Like, some organizations have specialized in selling stuff to russ, pants, hats, russekort, sweaters, everything...People use a lot of money getting these things, myself, I used half as much as many others.

I have a projeckt going on, making a collage containing many pictures from my russetid, this will allso have more explaining about what's going on in the pictures...

And the worse thing is that I had to hear it over the phone, since I don't live at home any more, and I was supposed to selebrate my birthday with a small getogether with my family...
My dad had to call me at school to tell me what had happend.
I totally got the shivers and tried to sit through a lession of norwegian, but I just couldn't do it! I lost control of my fingers and couldn't write, and i felt just miserable!
I told my teacher what had happend, and I think that he'd seen that I weren't well, so he said that I should just go home, if I felt that that was the right thing to do, and I also feel that he was a little worried that I'd not have anyone to talk to about it when I got home, 'cause he asked if I had anyone to talk to...I had, I mean, Rune was sitting at home just waiting for me to come home and feeling really bad, so he could comfort me.

My conclution, I think, is that I actually cant handle it (sorrow, that is), I get fysically ill and tired and I cry my eyes out, that last thing is probably not that uncommon in these situations, but that's ofcorse what I do.

Well. I think I have been lucky to at all meet my great grandparents, not everyone theese days have, and the price to pay is a lot of sorrow, and some funerals when they die, but I wouldn't change it, and now I'm hoping there will be a long time till next time, my grandparents are still young and healthy. There will probably be another 15-20 years. Maybe I'm over the whole getting ill-thing when that happens.

I was really happy with how my painting came out, I did something I'd wanted to do for a really long time, I might upload it sometime, when I get my hands on a camera.(It's too big for my scanner). In Norway, the grades are numbers, with 1(would be an F) as the worst and 6(would be an A+) as the best. On my painting I got 5- (probably an A-) and on the written stuff I got 4(I think on the "This is what I think of my painting" paper, and 4/3(I believe this would be a C, or something) on the art-history-paper. I just can't get my thoughts around art-history, but I'm quite pleased with how it turned out. I'd expected worse, especially in art-history, well, I've tried to find out what the grade would be as one grade, 'cause it's possible, and I think it would be. a 4,4 (I think this would be a B)( I's a mean value). That's not a bad grade at all...I want to do it better on the final in two weeks, though. We'll see...

And the Norwegian grade-system is much more expressive than the American, but that's probably a matter of taste.

On the other hand I just had to tell one of my "friends" (in lack of a better word) that she really annoys me. She does all the things that I really wishes she didn't do. This time it was that she was "sick" and sat there watching the choir practice and she just had to tell the sopranos what to do when they were doing it. I felt that if I were the one conducting, I would have told her to get the hell out of there, I weren't the one conduckting, so I couldn't tell her that right then, but after the practice, I walked over to her and told her that it wasn't really personal, but that I had to tell her, and I told her that she annoyed me really bad. She just started to defence herself, and I told her that she had allready done it, and I knew why she did it, it just annoyed me and I had to tell her. It started to feel like discussing with my mom, wich I really don't do well. I feel like what I sayd didn't reach out to her at all and she will keep annoying me forever, it was like talking to a wall, but if I get to conduckt one time, I will tell her off, 'cause I couldn't handle it...
I feel reallybad about it...don't know why.

so there I am, waiting for an hour in the waiting-area, it was crowded! there were way too many people there, so...I had been waiting for an hour when it finally was my turn to go into the alb and get poked with needles...have I said how much I hate that?
Anyways, I was sooo tired and feberish and everything.
The woman stiks a needle in my arm...and what happens? NOTHING! when someone stiks a needle in your arm it's supposed to bleed! And so the woman says, "oh, well...you have an appointment with the doctor in two hours, and if she says you need to take the test, we'll give it another try then" soo, I have to go home and sleep. This was nice, but an hour and a half later, I have to go down there AGAIN! and guess what! yeah...I had to give some blood-samples and this time, she actually got some blood, and I allmost fell asleep, I mean...if I knew she wouldn't make it the first time, I'd go home at once to sleep, not sit there for an hour to be bored! anyway, it's all over and done with, and I'm still not well...
