Today I found out stuff I never wanted to know about my mum.

She cheated on my dad three times.

Now my dad and my nan are fighting, because me and dad are moving in with his girlfriend again, and my nan wants me to go and live with her in my my mums old house because she hates Kelly (dads GF).

They were fighting about it today, and my nan just only got home from hospital yesterday.

I don't know what to do! I don't want to live in the old house, but I don't want to upset nan and I want to stay with dad!

Fake Friends

Chain letters are dumb and I hate receiving them. So when I started seeing this one pop up, as well as the constant response to this letter as "wtf this doesn't make any sense," I decided I might as well try tearing it apart. Or at least point out that it suffers from a severe logical fallacy.

No offense, but ... People are getting too fake on me. They only want posts, comments, or to see how many friends they can get.

First off, who is "me?" I assume that it's meant to refer to the person who is posting this journal, but I don't think that people are "getting fake." I can only assume it refers to the person who started this ridiculous chain letter. That person is incredibly pessimistic. I mean, I'm pretty pessimistic myself, but I don't really know many people who care all that much about their post count, friend count, etc... actually, I can't even think of one of my friends that is like that. Or even an acquaintance. Huh! Moving on.

So let's see who will actually repost this. This is a test to see who's paying attention. This is a test to see how many people in my friends list actually pay attention to me.

Read: "Waaah! Nobody cares about me! Nobody likes me anymore!! Look at me, guys! I want you to look at meeeee!! I just want love!"

I don't care if you don't read my journal. That's why I sparingly post on the journal here - because if people are like me, they'll only really read the journal if it catches their eye. I don't think of this journal as a replacement LiveJournal or anything, I just use it when I want to comment on my art or post a meme that I thought looked kind of fun.

If you use this journal a lot, I highly recommend getting a LiveJournal instead. That way you won't flood people's inboxes. Not that I'm saying I don't care about the friends of mine that do that, I just don't always feel like reading those journal entries.

Copy and repost in your own bulletin. LetÂs see who the true friends are and I think I know who you are... Repost this if you are a friend...Don't reply... just copy and paste this in a new bulletin as "Fake Friends'

True friends will read and repost this. Fake friends will just ignore it.

Okay, this is the big killer. This section right here is a prime example of the logical fallacy known as "no true Scotsman." For those who don't know, this logical fallacy sets one thing (in this case, "friend") with a fixed definition (in this case, "a friend is a person who reads all your journals and will blindly follow whatever instructions you give them"). Anything that would normally be that thing (your friend) is actually not that thing unless they fall under that specific set definition.

I hope my description is adequate- I'm terrible at describing tangible things, so describing a logical fallacy is even harder without directly quoting Wikipedia or something. But.. yeah. No true Scotsman. This fallacy is a very common one, so if you're ever in a debate or argument or something learn to recognize it.

Here's a nice run-down of it all if you really want to read more about it. I like reading about logical fallacies because, while I really hate confrontations, it's kind of rewarding to be able to recognize them when they apply.
