General Update

I failed on my spring break mission. Drama at work prevented me from breaking out my camera and taking pictures of the long ears. The only time I used my camera over break at all was to play around with my parent's puppy. A few of those are managing to find their way onto DA now.

Over the break I made a very difficult decision, but one that I think I will appreciate in years to come, even if I am not terribly fond of it now. I've decided that I will not be attending CU next year. I will be attending a school close to home and commuting to classes every day. There are up sides and down sides to this, but at least I'll be able to see Zorro year round now.

I'm going to miss Boulder a lot, and all the friends that I have made here. The scenery and the ability to drive an hour or so and get up to Estes park, the Dogs in Boulder series, and all the other things associated with Boulder. PA has it's own beauty however, once you get away from the buildings. So I'm trading mountains for forest, essentially, although the rocky mountains will always be imprinted on my heart. I'll be living at home again, my parent's dog will become my dog too.

General Update

I couldnt be more excited to go on spring break. To add to that excitement I -just- got CS3 today, and I'm excited to learn how to use it. I've been using Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.0 for... as long as I can remember. If I had to guess I would say 8 years. Fancy real photoshop has just always been out of the budget. I haven't had time to do more than glance at it, but my head is slightly spinning with all the things that I want to try out.

I'm going home for spring break and I swear I will take some pictures of mules. I swear. When I was home for Christmas I was just so happy to see the 'children' that I pretty much spaced on taking their pictures. You have no idea how thrilled I am to go home and see Zorro.

General Update

I've been working overtime with school work, and pretty much failing at social relationships. Grades come first, right? right! That's pretty much meant locking myself in my room all weekend and missing out on all the parties. I'm alright with that though, because I'm not really the party type.

General Update

School has been taking pretty much all of my time. I've been spending days reading and reading and reading some more. I guess that's what I get for changing over to be an English major. As a result I haven't made the time that I should to go shooting, until today. I determined that I am going to start a new project that will be explained further down in this journal.

General Update

I'm back at school now and I've got a bit of down time before my classes start up but I'm busy none the less. I wish I had more time to go out and shoot but I can never seem to get the time, and when I caqn the lighting is never cooperative. Colorado is almost never cloudy, but it always picks the days I want to shoot to have a lovely slate gray sky.

General Update

It's been a stressful break, but I wont bore you with the details. I've been out at the barn shooting a few times but the lighting has always been bad. I'm going into NYC this weekend and I'll get some shooting there. no, not the people, we're going to a zoo, one that I haven't been to in a long time.

I'm changing my major to English, and to get used to showing my writing to others I made a literature account. I'm very hesitantly putting a link to it here.

General Update

So, I've been really horrible about updating my journal. But that's alright I guess, just more publicity for the people who got featured last time. I'm still up at school and coming into the final stretch for this semester. thank god. I just want to go home and play with my long eared children for a month or so. Actually life hasn't been too bad for me, just a bit more of the drama that I thought I had escaped by coming to college. But it turns out that people are still people, even if you've graduated high school years ago.

For Thanksgiving I went to my boyfriends house and met the family. It was a great break, and I feel so much better now about life in general. Yay for hot-tub therapy. I took a few pictures while I was there, some are posted here, mostly of Mesa Verde and the mustangs we saw there. I have to get his permission but I'd love to post some of the pictures of the boyo here. keep tuned for some of those coming soon.

My parents are getting a 1 year old Golden/lab mix this week(we hope) so when I go home I'll have a puppy to photograph! I'm so excited!

News Update

Work has been so freaking crazy, by the time i get done with my 14 hour days i'm way too exhausted to go out in the field and take pictures, I'm lucky if I have enough energy to get in my car and drive the half hour to my house. I've got a few shots that still need to be looked at just sitting in my camera right now. My sister is over with her baby so maybe i'll get some pictures of little Alyssa tomorrow!

So i went on a bit of a fav spree the last few days,
and today i went on a stamp finding mission, got a few, which are now hanging out in the bottom of this journal entry. I like finding work to look at, It makes me feel all warm and happy inside.

things since break began have been just as stressful as when school was going, if for different reasons. family life is a bit crazy, more so than i remember. well i suppose that isn't true, more than I wish it was would be more accurate.

in the last few months, I found all of these friends who are either on DA or have recently joined. It just used to be me and one or two other people that I knew in person, but then whala! tons of people that I actually know, and who's work i've seen created. It's kindof cool.

I am doing a summer course on women's litterature, and the final project is on women artist, and I think I'm going to do photography. so any of you women photographers out there that happen to read this, drop me a line if you are willing to answer some questions and have your art written about in a college paper. Also, if any of you people out there know of any photography exhibits around the northern PA area that are being put on by female photographers I would love if you would drop me a line and let me know.

so I've done a gallery purging, cut it down to about half of what it was before. what i consider to be my best. most of the others are in scraps, but a few just went all together.

I'm hoping that soon I'll get the time to go out and shoot in PA, it is my new home, and it is rather pretty. perhaps tomorrow i will wander the country club and find things to shoot. I know down the road there is a beaver dam, and I'd love to get some pictures of the little critters if they are still there.

It's much greener here than it was in Colorado. I'm still getting used to it.

Within the last few weeks I've actually gotten alot of positive-off-deviantart-feedback. It's been really nice, I've won prizes in two local photo contest and even had an offer to get my work published in a book! I've been putting up a few new prints, and I've found a good new way to frame them, at least I think it's good. Hopefully I'll have more to shoot soon. Finals are over on the 8th for me, so thankfully I'll be done, for better or worse, then.

Recently I've been questioning why I'm going to this school. and on top of that, why I'm majoring in what I am. I want to be an animal trainer. I don't want to be a doctor, or scientist, or anything like that. I would be perfectly happy telling people how to make their family dog stop chewing on the sofa. My dream job would be training an animal to be in a movie, or train horses...just to be horses and work better with their human partners.

but you guys are not here to hear me rant about such things, you're here for the art. so...here are the prints that I currently have up. I don't think anyone is ever going to buy one, but I'm going to keep shamelessly plugging myself anyway...

I'm running another thread in the thumb share forum for a journal feature. It's for animals again, so if you want to participate go to [link] and post for me. winners will be up in...not too long. No promises on particular days because of how freaking crazy busy I am with finals, but I'll try and get them up soon. and i'll message the people who won!

I think I'll also be running a Journal Design contest, with a subscription prize. probably 3 months. so...yeah, if any of you guys are supper talented with that and want a subscription show me what you are capable of and I might not even run the contest, just give you the sub and we can go from there. Sorry I've been so inactive the past few weeks. with finals coming up...you all know the way it goes. Momma goose and poppa goose finally decided to grace us with some babies though, so those pictures coming soon, at least for the next week or so before I leave for PA, and then hopefully I'll have new places to shoot and more animals to bring you!

I really should be studying for my finals right now...but i'm procrastinating.

On the personal side of life I got a job the other day, it's a student coordinator for my dorm's RAP program. basically I get to go to places and drive a 15 passenger van, and it's all nature themed, so lots of photography for me! woohoo. yeah...and i get paid for it, another nice benefit.

Antropomorphism
Since last week I've had very limited ability to go shooting...so I really haven't had much to post, What I have posted seems to be interesting to people, so that's good at least, I know that in the future this project will be received well.

I Think I'm going to try and put a calendar together for next year. my mom always says that's what she wants but I've never had enough pictures that I liked to make it possible. I'm not sure exactly how to do it on DA...I guess I'll have to figure it out. If any of you have suggestions I would be greatly appreciative.

I'm going crazy without any animals in my life. I've always had them there, and now...none.

but I have a plan for next year. that will work. it has to. and if it doesn't I will defiantly fight for it. I am going to become a puppy raiser for Guide Dogs for the Blind. It's a great cause, and I get to work with animals! I realize that It will be hard to give up that cute little puppy when he has to go to his new work, but it will defiantly be worth it. so keep your fingers crossed for me that this works...

For my first major college research paper I am doing a study of Dolphin emotions. in researching I've come across so many interesting viewpoints on animal emotion in general. In the scientific community assigning human emotions to an animal is taboo, a horrible offense that is worst than blasphemy. there is a word for this anthropomorphism. Recently there has been more publicity on such issues but it is still considered a topic that real researchers don't look at, don't talk about, and don't think about.

I challenge you to find a person who is not a "hardcore scientist" that works daily with animals that believes that they don't have emotions. I work at a vet's office and every single employee there sees the evidence of animal emotion every single day. I also work at a barn, and know that ignoring the emotions of animals can be a very dangerous proposition. You misread a horse, think he's ready to do something when he isn't emotionally ready and you, and he, get hurt.

I am a Biology major at the University of Colorado, Boulder. In a few years I will be an "actual scientist" and I'm so intrigued by this subject there is a major possibility that might be doing research on this exact subject. so....I'm going to be starting a new photo series entitled Anthropomorphism showing emotions through photography. The study of animal emotion might be taboo but I've never been one to follow the rules. I'm hoping that this will become the start of what might be a life long study, so wish me luck guys.

New Prints UP!

not that anyone is ever going to buy one, but you know, that's alright.

I just bought another memory card, 2 gig 60X write so that i can take everything in RAW and not large JPG. I'm excited. In two weeks I'm going to St. Louis for lots of picture taking fun. My 1 gig was only big enough for 100 shots or so, and that's not enough for one day of shooting for me, so with the 2G and the 1 i should get about 300 and that's about all I should need, i hope!

I think i might have found a model that will let me shoot, so i'm excited. It's possible I'll have people shots to put here, not just animals, even though that's what i prefer to shoot anyway. but it would be good to learn the finer points of portrait people photography, I think I'm getting decent at least at animal portraiture.

It's time for random people i watch features!

I'm thinking of starting a club, something along the lines of Ex-po-zure crossed with just animals. I'm not sure If I can handle it with my current school load though. but I would love to help animal photographers find people who's work they enjoy and get some exposure them self. I dont know. it's just an idea i'm tossing around in my head. tell me what you think.

Alrighty then, another journal from me! I broke down today and did what I've wanted to do for such a long time. I got myself a subscription! only three month at this point but I can see that I'm going to be addicted to it very shortly... at some point soon I will also be getting a whatever-its-called print acount so i can change the settings of the prints that I'll be adding very soon. and to celibrate my new subscription i'm going to be doing the feature thing. more details on that later. Today is my Christmas, my family always celibrates on Christmas Eve but this year it's out of need instead of on a whim. Tomorrow we are going to the airport (praying that DIA is cleared up by now) to go to NJ to look for a new home! I'll be taking my brand new D70 with me in hopes to find some interesting things to photograph. which brings me to my next point....

Request!
Because it's christmas (and I'm dying to take pictures with my new camera) feel free to request a picture of something either in NYC or the NJ/Pensilvania area and I will do my best to find it and take the picture in the two weeks I am there. upon return to DA I will post it either as a straight deviation or perhpas as a print for you to see and enjoy. I will only be in the city for two days out of the two weeks but I will do my best to work on any request I might get.

When I return from NJ I'll be going out to see Kyia, my baby girl so expect some horse photos coming soon from me as well. hopefully she didnt get too excited by all the snow and fall down a ditch or something.

I'm unsure how much free time I'll have on my trip so I have no idea when the next batch of photos will be up. so I'll see you when I see you!
