Packaged Bliss is currently down because my hosting has expired. Mmmm, Daria and I are working on that... it will just take a few days for my PayPal transfer to go through and get the monies. In general though, my hubby has been a little annoying lately. I really wanted to do a pretty Valentine's doll. BUT, bill has been a jerk about me being on the computer. "My doll sucks" GOD, i hate when people say that. Take it all as a learning experience. I rather doubt anyone is just awesome without practice.

THE WITCH HUNT (aka public accusations before due course)
I have been franked. Oh yes, I have. And, did I go all off and started ranting in every public place available to me? NO. I deal with it privately. And, in every case, the person apologized and took the stolen work down.

The whining and THE DRAMA in general. Everyone in our community seems to have a gripe about EVERYTHING. (Even me as evidenced by this very list. LOL). You know you know what i mean. >>

AND four things you like about the community:

My friends. I have met some people who i have known and held onto for YEARS. People i can talk to about NON dolling stuffage in my life. <3 They are made of awesome and win.

The people who inspire me and challenge me to be better than I would otherwise be alone. Some people have really pushed me to my limit and others have constantly given me advice to improve. AND THAT is what an artistic community should be about. <3

The looking. Oh, yes, i LOVE seeing what everyone else has done...oh yummy goodness.

The growth and changes in our community. Base credits were often overlooked. Respect for copyright was almost non-existent, etc.

For those of you who don't know, my computer completely died last month. Oh yes. I wanted to cry. I still have no idea what i managed to salvage and what has been lost forever. Thankfully my loving husband ran out and got me a new PC like 2 days later.

We had a week straight of insane snow storms prior to Christmas...followed by a day of 62 degree weather where the insanely high snow piles all melted into a giant muddy mess. (I kid you not, at my parent's home, the snow was taller than I was).

Christmas is rather anti-climatic for me, as MOST everyone in my family just gives out cash. LOL.
I did however get the new PC and a new coat... Bill is suffering under the delusion that if I have a *warm* coat, it will get me to go out sledding with him and the kids. Uhm, yeah, honey I will have the hot chocolate waiting for you when you get back. >> Still not sure what I will be buying with my Christmas funds though. :/

New Years Eve
On New Years Eve, the family went out to a festival. The weather was back down to about 20 and the snow was back on the ground. The festival was set up in local downtown businesses providing shows to entertain~but you spend about half of your time out in the elements walking from destination to destination or killing time. We managed to see a Celtic band, a magic show and watched fireworks in the snow. Watching fireworks in the snow is AWESOME!

Atm, i am totally envying my husband's time off from work...i got one day for New Years.

Also, damn, the WoW expansion has renewed my addiction to the game. I had pretty much quit...but now I just feel the burning need to hit 80. I don't even know why. After that there are rep grinds and professions to level. I am not sure i even actually enjoy it (unless my baby-cakes comes on). MEH.

I do that a lot. Get sucked into things just because they are there. Like that TV show House. I don't enjoy that show. Really I don't. It never makes me feel happy happy like some shows. In fact, just the opposite. Its usually a downer. Yet i find myself watching it none the less just because its on the TV?

I need something inspirational to work on. But, I am coming up empty at the moment. Maybe its the gray skies and the fact that its dark by like 6PM?

WTF Christmas Music

So, yeah, last week, i flip on the damn radio and there was CHRISTMAS music on. Not holiday music, people, they used the word Christmas in the song. Am I the ONLY person out there who thinks it should be a law that you can't play those songs til after Thanksgiving?

*edit* Its been pointed out to me that only the States celebrate thanksgiving...thats not really my point. My point is that retailers and radio stations just keep upping the date of when their displays go up, when the music starts playing 24/7. Now, they all barely wait til October is over before the holiday trees start coming out.

I went to the museum today. They have a display they change out like every month...and this month was all about toys! Hmmm.... So, anyway, i got a kick out of seeing first release spirographs and old yo-yos and METAL slinkies, magic rocks, the original Mr. Potato Head-which btw was just the face pieces kids stuck into real vegetables. hehe. I found that really amusing. (Safety regulations about the sharp prongs is what prompted the toy company to provide their own *potato*)

So, work begins with a co-worker mis-placing a bank deposit over the weekend... we come in and its MISSING. Huge scheduling mishap that I really don't want to go in to. A minor scheduling mishap that ended up working out. And of course, as if all that was not enough I had to sprint across our complex to hang signs for an overlooked change in venue that had not been published. Thats all within the first hour of work. I am ready to puke with the stress level.

And, as i am watching these dumb ass kids jump off the pier...i think, does no one remember how many damn kids DIE doing that. ><;; The entire thing is surrounded by giant breaker rocks, then the boats wakes make it hard to swim and thats not counting the rip currents and what not. And, suddenly, i am reminded of that scene in Mall Rats where Brodie is talking about the damn kids who get caught in the escalator for some reason.

Despite slathering myself in sunscreen, I am most definitely pink and tender. It was worth it though. Of course, I shall also be washing sand out of my hair for the next few days.

In other randomness, I have been seriously pondering starting a new website and breaking away from Packaged Bliss. Its just that honestly, I have changed so much over the past er, lets go with 8 years since i opened the site...and I am not the same person anymore-even artistically. (Does anyone even go to my actual site anymore. LOL). Not only that, I'd like a place/site with a more grown up name and identity. Meh, I don't know.

Of the three people I have mentioned it too... one thinks its dumb, one says it never suited me anyway, and another says she would follow me where-ever I go. So there you go. At the moment, i put it off for now (a perpetual habit of mine).

I admit, I was confused by our GD's stance on flood fill as it pertains to pixel art. I really felt there were several inconsistencies in her comments which made me question what the heck was acceptable in the Doll Pixel Art Category. Knowing that our GD can in fact be a reasonable woman, I noted her before any more confusion on this issue resulted. SO, here is our correspondence to clarify the issue for all of us. (I have re-ordered them in correct sequence).

Quite frankly, i feel going back to add shading to try and fit what is then a subjective(?) view on it being allowed and to what degree is confusing. If someone doesn't take the time to add detail, it is to the detriment of the artist and their own work. ><;; IMO, saying you can use it, but only in these circumstances makes for the ultimate in confusion. Allow it OR DON'T.

You yourself stress consistency in rules, yet, how can we follow this rule when it is based on personal opinion as to whether or not the area is to big, or an artist goes in and pulls out enough detail.

I am trying very hard to understand this. If it is your stance that flood filling is NOT a tool that should be used by pixel artists (and again i stress in my opinion it is merely a time saver for what you WOULD lay pixel by pixel) then let me know and will move all my dolls to the Miscellaneous Category until the issue of our categories can be resolved...

In our community, the addition of terms to a base laid pixel by pixel is a rather common practice. It is there (directly on the image) in a convenient place for any who use the base to see. It provides a reminder of the proper site to link back to when we show the doll and what editing of the base is allowed. It also avoids the complication of people who never read artist's terms of use located on separate pages (or in the case of DA the artist's comments). It also reduces the need for very detailed organization when one collects bases.

The addition of computer generated text (as long as it is not a part of the image composition) in no way determines the techniques used in the making of a base. A digital watermark added using a computer program on a water-color does not suddenly change its classification to a digital piece of artwork.

If our opinions on what constitute pixel art do not matter (because of disagreement with pixel artist and dollers with that classification) quite honestly, I think DA should simply change our categorization from Customization-Dolls- *Pixel Art* to Customization-Dolls-*Pixel Shaded*

Just goes to show, they will throw up fast food places just about anywhere. lol. Cause it was so late, I had to bring my kids with me since bill was at work. Poor rich and daria, having to put up with that chaos. They were like bouncing off the picnic tables, LITERALLY. Guess those late night milkshakes were not a good idea.

Clowns to the Left of Me, Jokers to the Right

I am constantly in the middle of 2 people who are fighting. I don't know what it is about my personality that makes people want to involve me in THEIR fights. That is where i was this week, stuck in the middle of not one dispute, but two. I actually went and talked to my boss about it, because... the disputes are work related and i should not HAVE to be this person. If they feel that strongly about it that they need to complain to me, they need to go see him. Maybe its because i am the boss' assistant?

I told him that it is very...emotionally wearing to be around all that negativity all the time and that i was going to be sending these people to see him if they could not work it out. So, far this has stopped their bickering. HA!

Warm Fuzzies

Last night Bill and I got into a fight...a DUMB fight. (Actually most of our fights are about dumb things). Something about how I am so conservative and i have to be willing to take chances. Well, I am not going to go into the entire fight, but at the end, we just stood there looking at one another, and it was sort of funny cause he just walked over to me, dipped me (you know like when...dancing), and gave me a kiss. Yes, i literally GLOWED after that moment. Sometimes when you have been with someone for so long, you take one another for granted, but every once in a while... it hits you like BAM! Ooooh yes, we still have magic. *dreamy sighs*

So, last night, our furnace blower decided to stop working. What this means is that even though our furnace was pumping out warm air, it was not being circulated through the house. The temperature hit a lovely 54F degrees. The air in our basement around - you know-a 4 foot radius of the furnace was nice and toasty though. ><;; While those temps might make for a nice spring day outside with the sun shining on you-its freaking freezing in your home. I am hoping it is all repaired by the time i get home.

I finished all my shoping yesterday, and wow, was that rough. It was insane cause of all us horrible last minute shoppers and then you add in the stop lights that were out from the storm. Yeah..CRAZINESS. I could say i am not gonna wait til the last minute next year, but i would be lying. I am that kinda procrastinator. >>

I have had strep throat now for like 5 days, but, my medicine is finally kicking in - hence my absence. I'd like to thank my daughter for her kisses during her contagious period for putting me out of commission for so long. Well, that and my stubborness in seeing the doctor. >> Still just a little bit too tired for real life though. I wish it had a pause button. hehe.

Oh, and i would REALLY love it if i got some more entries for my contest at eden enchanted. Contest is open to all members with 100 or more posts... you won't even be able to see it otherwise. Deadline, december 15.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for the DD! AND, thanks to all the lovely people who have commented on my stuffage. (I didn't even realize it til i saw cherie's post congratulating me).

Uh, to the 3 people who requested i make *think greek* a print: 1) The print quality would not be high enough (You have to work at about 5 times screen size to get it too print out the way it appears on screen and 2) even if it were acceptable, the base was created from some very talented people at eden enchanted...

In completely non related news, i just saw 300-what is up with them making the persians look like something out of stargate? Hmmmm

On the one hand, i feel like i have already gotten so much done...but on the other my to do list just keeps growing. (I haven't played WoW in almost a week-maybe thats a good thing. Although, admitedly, I AM going to go do that right now cause i am going through like gaming withdrawal).

The new doll i posted is all done and at home in my new layout! Yay! Next up~Eden collabs... oh, and getting my links updated. (Can't everyone just leave their web addy's the same for MY convenience. lol)
