Now it may not seem related to the Crimson Theory, but it will help in defining the game more than you can imagine.

The first part of the side project is a complete remake of Super Mario Bros. World 1-1 from scratch. I'm using this goal as a benchmark in defining how the world will be rendered to the screen. The idea is to first emulate, then innovate. Using the Mario level as a starting point will allow me to focus on the core programming of level editor without worrying about making graphics and sprite to go with it.

The second part of the side project is a remake of The Legend of Zelda Level 1. This will be built off of the Mario Brothers render engine I will create. Whats good about the Zelda dungeon is it will introduce objective based goals into the gameplay (keys and items), and more complex enemy AI, multiple hit points for enemies and player, and sprawling maze like world creation.

Shortly after I will fuse the two engines together, alter them to fit the gameplay flow of the Crimson Theory, and then present the results after testing. Basically it will be a small one level demo of the Crimson Theory. And some what a parody of the Action Adventure RPG genre.

---
Current work flow chart:
1. SMB1 W1-1 - Level Editor and scrolling
2. LoZ1 L1 - Special object orientation and objective based goal setting

Prolouge - "Legend of Leeward"
3. Ep. 1 Official Release - "Morose"

Ep. 2 - "Epiphany's Charm"
9. Proof of Concept - Closed Beta - "Epiphany's Charm Demo"
10. Open Public Beta - "Epiphany's Charm"
11. Ep. 2 Official Release - "Epiphany's Charm"

Ep. 3 - "Arnheit Conquest"
12. Closed Beta - "Arnheit Conquest Demo"
13. Open Public Beta - "Arnheit Conquest"
14. Ep. 3 Official Release - "Arnheit Conquest"
---

Each episode (game) is its own miniature project. I've only listed the first three, but there are much more in planning. Names in quotes are only tentative titles. The order of the episodes may change also.

I've bolded the more interesting parts.

"We have recently removed a deviation [link] at the request of lawyers representing the Kellogg Corporation who are objecting to your unauthorized use of allegedly copyrighted materials owned by Kellogg.

Kellogg is following a procedure under the U.S. Copyright laws that permits it to make this request under limited circumstances. The procedure is referred to as a DMCA takedown notice.

You have the right to object to this removal. Part of that objection can take the form of a DMCA counter-notification. The dA copyright policy outlines this process. [link] however you may wish to consult with your own attorney before doing so. Submitting a counter-notification can result in Kellogg taking action against you directly.

More information on the subject is available here: [link]

You may also notice that we have removed your work and left other similar works alone. This is because we are responding to a specific notice from Kellogg about a specific deviation. We are not responding to a general request with respect to all uses of Kellogg’s trademarks or copyrighted content. If you have any questions please contact us here: [link]"
--

It was referencing an old piece of fan-art I had done. It was just a parody picture of the Dad figure getting revenge on the Daughter figure. I thought parody was protected under copyright laws, but I think the law states I'd have to change the colors at least (which I did not).

Its kind of funny. That was one of my most favorited/popular deviations... And it was in scraps too! I don't really understand what was so special about it; it wasn't MY favorite at all. I had to be only 14 when I drew that image.

I actually had been wanting to delete the thing because I hated the favoritism it got over my original works. The thing is, I'm not the kind of person to delete a deviation if someone favorited it. Just out of consideration for them.

But now Kellogg has personally noticed the popularity of the image, and personally taken action against me through the DeviantArt staff. I'm actually honored. Its pretty cool to be noticed at such a high level, without even trying too. It means that someone at the legal department noticed the image and its collective popularity warranted enough attention to have taken legal action against it. Or maybe even the original artist found the image! Pretty exciting.

I mean its not the usual user-submitted deviantArt takedown of an image. This is Kellogg contacting Devart on a business level!

In summation all I have to say is that I entirely agree with the decision made. I made the image with no intent to harm Kellogg's reputation or anything. It was just for fun and a few laughs. Laughs were had, but that time has now gone and passed.

They have every right to moderate their intellectual property, and I accept the take down as-is and will continue on with my life with no complaint.

Title unrelated.

I'd disappeared for a while and now I'm back. I've been pretty occupied in the recent months that I've been gone. I'm currently in the process of beating every single Legend of Zelda game in order, since I had only played a few before. Its really interesting when you understand the full story.

In the mean time, I've been working a lot (on and off) on my Crimson Theory project: An action-adventure game with strong RPG elements and some platforming. A lot of what I have done can not be uploaded to DeviantART for some obvious reasons.

Current progress is halted due to a lack of fundings. I need twenty-five USD (Dollars) to purchase the registration code, since my trial ran out. Its a very small cost, but I have no source of income.

I have been taking many mental and physical notes, and there is a lot left to do. I've got most of the core already set up, but its in fragments.

In other news, I need to be more productive. My girlfriend has been doing a lot of craft work and seems to quite enjoy it. What I want to do is some how turn our simple hobbies into something profitable. Some ideas we've had are simple toy manufacturing (like little 25 cent figurines) or making cloth designs and costumes for people. There is some more ideas, but they are a little too grand to put in a few words. I don't know to say, its not very far into development at this moment.

I plan on making a questionnaire in the near future to see what it is that people would want. Its like a community project and surveying our market at the same time. Maybe we'll make a website too.

If you're in any way interested, then just keep watch here or send a message my way.

I'm currently working on a few things. There is a little something on my laptop that 300 fans might enjoy, but progress on that is slow, due to a bunch of stuff going on. But as I work on it, its evident that I need the practice. Which is good.

Also, I am working on a song with my good pal, DJ Conman. I will most likely produce a low time/budget animation for this as well, to give me a reason to put it here (since dA doesnt qualify music alone as art). The song itself is just about done, as are the lyrics. Recording is pending at the moment, for one reason or another.

And not to mention that school in its entirety is slowing things down as usual. Weekends? But I've been having fun lately, which is getting in the way. I've been saying I need to concentrate on things more, but obviously I cant listen to myself, because nothing is changing. So I dont know what the hell I'm gonna do.

I feel really motivated to do something for once! I've just been bombarded with inspiration all day and have been needing somewhere to channel it. A friend of mine today requested that I try to get into AP art, regardless of the fact that I havent taken a class since 9th grade. I dont think I'm quite the level to jump that high, but it has sparked something in me.

For my final year's schedule I wanted to get back into our school's art program. For one reason or another, I stopped taking art after the first year. But due to a scheduling error, and a new renovation in the course listings, I was basically told that my art credits were worth nothing, and that I'd have to start at the beginning (freshman level) art class. My friend made the point that with some effort I could assemble a portfolio of sorts and present this to one of the art instructors, and they can hopefully see that regardless of school board policy, I dont belong in level 1 art classes. Hopefully, I can continue off at level 2 art classes, or maybe even higher.

Its been months since we chose our classes, but it isnt set in stone yet. They dont finalize our courses until August, I believe. I think I am going to take some time this spring and see what I can do to furthering myself before the summer.

As much as I REALLY dont like going out of my way to solve problems in our education system, I REALLY dont want to retake a course that I already finished. Especially 9th grade art (which would be excruciatingly boring and simple).

So I think I might do that. I know what kind of stuff is expected from AP art classes and I doubt I'd be able to reach that level in enough time, but I feel that if I push myself to that point to create something remotely simlar to AP art level work, I should be able to dazzle the school officials into bumping me up at least two levels. I think there's like 7 or 8 levels of 2D art class now? I'll still be a long ways from the top that I'll never be able to reach. :(

I know I can do it; Its just going to take me a lot longer. Since a majority of my work is in digital, I figured I'd create an online portfolio to assist my physical one. This sure is a long read concerning nothing about anyone or anything important, so if you read through all of it, congratulations. You win a medal.

Yeah, so I reworked the Crimson Theory site, for the nth time.
But this layout I am actually pleased with (I say that every time).

I got some neat looking backgrounds, very simplistic and geometric. And its even got alpha transparency, so you can see the background through the cells! I think this looks pretty cool, though for some reason it doesn't work in Explorer. Explorer is really... difficult. Its the bane of the internet. Its a bitch to make everything work in internet explorer.

I even wrote the alpha code for it. Anyway, heres the site.
[link]

I'd say that its a work of art in its own.

All crossed off sections are incomplete and not uploaded. There is a Model viewer in the DEMO section, which you can actually view the Leeward model from here: [link] in REAL-TIME. With Idle, Walking, Running, and a bonus Back-Flip animations.

Also, I wrote some songs recently, in Fruity Loops.
I'd appreciate some comments on them. They're my first real self composed songs. Predictably enough, they are video game inspired, though 100% original.

[link]

All songs there were written by me, except Piano Overkill, I Am Atlas, and Hate City. Those were done by my friend Randal B. My songs wont ever be as good, but then again music isnt my expertise. But I do love me some good ol' musics.

Use this search feature to categorize gallery images.

Input search such as:
byencilgoblin keywords:bonus stage

To get:

EDIT: Need a subscription to post images apparently.

Some Bold text.
YEAH
ok, so STRONG tags work fine. And B tags.

Some Italic text.
as do I tags.

Fake Text link
A Hyper link tags work too.

~PencilGoblin
DeviantART user links work.

And so do Icon links.

lets try to center a paragraph.

Centered text. blah blah.

Hrm, CENTER tags dont work. Maybe paragraphs..

Centered text. blah blah.

Well, the align didnt work, but the paragraph tags are missing... Hm...

Images and text alignment dont work. Or at least I'm not sure how to do those. Lets play with font.

Redish
Nope, font changes wont work Either.

Headings?
Heading
Nope.

One quick update: Lets test strike-through

<s>This text is wrong,</s> but its ok.
<strike>This text is wrong</strike> but its ok.
<delete>This text is wrong</delete> but its ok.

Huh, I could have sworn DELETE and S were also strike through tags. Oh well, STRIKE works just fine.

Thumb images?
:thumb37213217:
