so... things suck and rock at the same time, which is usual for life.

my digital camera croaked earlier this month. being a photographer without a camera really sucks balls. i technically do have a camera (my film slr) but i'm currently unable to afford film and/or processing. so i'm sorta stuck in that route.

but, i've gotten relatively more creative and outgoing in Photoshop and Illustrator. i did a vector portrait for a major project in my advanced art class. that was freakin' hard, and i think i want to reprint it on glossy... the contrast didn't come out the way i wanted it to. its possibly my next award-winner tho, i'm getting tired of showing off my vector slide. its won 3 awards now

Photoshop is fun. i morphed a tennis ball and a wolf together and it looks kick ass. i'll have to post it. I also did a spur of the moment throw together poster for my friend and her group for a Psychology project. it somehow managed to turn out amazing even tho i just arbitrarily placed things in places and prayed that they'd look good. the composition is really cool and i literally was not paying any attention to it when i was putting it together. i love this shit i also did a project in art history where i put David's "The Death of Marat" in a dumpster. its rather ironic (and also completely unpurposeful).

mom wants to try to start a small design firm with our network of awesome artists who specialize in different things. i get to play too! woohoo! maybe i'll be able to quit DQ, they treat me like shit anyway.

*UPDATE* I've been unofficially fired from DQ (they stopped scheduling me for the last 3 weeks and i'm gonna quit this friday) but i have a job at Subway with Katie and Makenzi.
So, last month my art teacher Ms. Wing had our entire advanced art class (or at least, the ones that actually care) bring in any pieces we thought were show-worthy and we submitted them to two regional high school art exhibitions.
One was at St. Charles Community College (not really anything special, just poopy art stuck in a hallway in their performing arts building) which, by the way, our school's submissions OWNED everyone elses (seriously, everything else looked like it was drawn/painted/glued together by 4 year olds).
The second exhibit was at Lindenwood University in St. Charles. This one you could actually win an award at (and I did! wooooO!!)

my vector "Slide" [link] won 3rd place in the "Digital Imaging" category.
granted, there were only like... 10 submissions that could have qualified in that category, but its still cool

and I'm kinda super pissed that Katie didn't win anything for her photography submissions, which were AMAZING. probably because they were only 5X7s... stupid people with their lack of attention to the power of small things

I'm positive nobody reads these, but I don't really care. Its nice to vent, lol.

Senior year is completely insane. I kinda hate it, but am still managing to enjoy it.
I'm in 3 advanced classes (AP American History, AP English Lit & Comp, and Advanced Art), one intermediate social studies class (Sociology), and one for-the-hell-of-it english class (film studies). I'm enjoying all of them in their own way but theres a lot of work to do and i don't seem to be doing much of it. I haven't started on my term paper for American History... which means i'm not going to for a while. I don't like the subject i picked, but am not interested in anything specific within the time period we were allowed to choose from. PLUS, i don't have any of the college resources that everyone else in my class has because i didn't sign up for the dual enrollment with UMSL (mostly b/c mom didn't have the money at the time of sign up).

english class is relatively interesting... its my pass out class tho. that time of day where i have an extremely hard time keeping my eyes open, no matter how interested i am. and we have tons of in-class essays (means i'm fucked basically)

advanced art is decent. but we're painting. i suck at painting.

Soc is fun, but my teacher likes making everything brain-stimulating... but i still love her pessimistic, dark humored self.

film studies is great. i finally saw Citizen Kane, which rocked my cinematic buff socks off. i want to make short films now... too bad i don't have any access to a video camera or an SLR (to make stop-motion films)

and everybody is signing up for colleges and shtuff... i feel left out... i'm going to community college... makes me feel like a loser since i have the highest artistic skill in any of my classes (next to the teacher)

so... summer is pretty sweet
I got into a pre-college art and design program at Maryville University. It kicks ass. Only 2 weeks long tho
In the morning we have the studio art class where we do mostly drawing and some critiquing. On tuesday we had a female model come in and we got to do a ton of drawings of her. She was so cute! I'm guessing about late 40's... maybe older... in amazing shape, I have a feeling she dances or something because her legs looked fantastic... whatever. anyway, that was really fun and i hope we do more.
uuuuhhhh... design! so, our first project was to design (in Photoshop) a new face for clocks that we bought. i couldn't think of anything... so i did Chucks. turned out pretty sweet, but i need to paint the clock because its red and everything else about it is black and white...
then for the rest of the week we worked on self portraits (in Photoshop). the teacher aid type guy, Michael Dragoni (I asked on the first day if i could call him Dragon, lol) took pictures of everyone and we pulled them all into Photoshop and changed the colours and lighting and added a bunch of texture. i love the way mine turned out! [[link] [link] [link]

thats it so far... i'll add more when the class is over.

EDIT:

so, the class is over (well... its been over i just forgot to write more)
the whole thing was amazing! in studio art we had a male model come in during the second week. he was the most interesting person i've ever seen! middle aged, going bald on top. but he had long hair (like... past his shoulders) and he put it up in one of those half ponytails. but the cool part about it was he had part of it coming out of the top so it did this big WOOSH thing... i can't explain it... it was awesome. and he wore these black skinny jeans that were a bit tattered and a black button up shirt and some boots with spurs on them. i liked his style. aanyway, we drew him and he was really funny and kept complaining about his shorts and how he wasn't used to wearing them. and Anne (who was by far the most talented person there) kept complaining loudly about how she kept drawing him so he looked like a chick the whole situation was rather humorous.
design. the second week we moved away from Photoshop (good, i was getting bored with the novice stuff) and into Illustrator. we had to make a "Vector City". me being weird tho, picked a picture of a slide [link] that i had taken at the sculpture park and did a vector drawing of that. turned out pretty sweet [link] . Katie (my friend that took the class with me) did a vector of a pic of a church in New Orleans that she had taken. it was pretty cool and ominous and shtuff. SO, after Illustrator (that took a while since people get confuzzled by the pen tool) we (being the people who finished before everyone else) moved on to InDesign and went and took a bunch of macro pictures wherever on campus and imported them and made a cool collage.

thats pretty much it. i suppose i should upload some more stuff now, huh?

So, school is winding down for winter break. My photography class has been hectic for the past few weeks. Pretty much everybody has been rushing to finish/develop their film and enlarge everything. My grade had been crap because I hadn't turned in a few prints, so I was really panicky. But everything was officially due last Friday. Skipped my lunch to finish matting and writing critiques. I'm caught up though! Current grade is 80%! It should be even higher with several extra credit things due this week. I'm very excited. My prints are pretty

Same with my ceramics class. We've been glazing for the past month as our bisqueware comes out of the kiln. All of my projects survived, surprisingly. My last glazed piece is firing tonight at cone 06. Should be done by Wednesday- its a penguin cookie jar! Nearly everything turned out freakin' awesome! I'm gonna post pics really soon.

Someday they'll find out about you too...

why, hello. um... i'm Charlotte *AA type group says "Hi Charlotte" in monotone voices* and i'm an artist. mostly cartoons but i love to do stuff with... um... pencil... apparently i'm good with chalk 'cuz this project i'm working on in my drawing class is kicking ass! i've never thought i was good at realism but others contradict that statement. i say the same thing about my papers, but i always seem to get A's. so if you need an editor- i may be your woman!
so, do you wanna know about how i make these 'toons? well if you don't, too bad 'cuz i'm gonna tell you anyway! so, i hand draw pretty much everything and colour it pretty with my Prismacolor markers. then if i like them enough i'll scan them and paste 'em in Illustrator. i've made a template for Erin & The Evil Gumball so they're the same shape each time, even when Erin's turned to the side. so i put them up on different layers along with text (i love that font b/c it almost looks like my handwriting!) and background images. and thats pretty much it .

if you want me to upload some of the originals (or all of them) please, do tell. i'm gonna try to be consistant in my creating at least one a week. but sometimes my inspiration just doesn't come... HELP ME EDDIE IZZARD!! lol, i love him! and The Dresden Dolls- the best band ever!
