: Past Features :



Last September I got a tattoo. I quite like it, I should as I designed it myself, but I always knew it would be a part of a second tattoo.

Currently the design is the word ‘imagine’ across the top of my foot. I always envisioned a feather quill writing the world, it swooping across the top of my foot and swirling gently around my anklebone.

First off, why the word imagine?
I’m a graphic design and creative writing major; my passion is putting down what’s in my head onto the page. I have an active imagination, of course, vivid dreams, and wild ideas. Of course, sometimes I can get down on myself; forget that I always have what I need to succeed with me.
The word ‘imagine’ not only means dream, it means remember, stay strong, let your creative side take over. It means imagine that there other people out there who have it so much worse. It means imagine what life would be like without the wonderful things you have. And it means imagine an awesome and beautiful future.

As I mentioned, I love writing and art, so the pen is a very powerful symbol in my life. And, of course, the feather quill is, personally, one of the loveliest versions of the instrument. That and all the images of a feather, freedom, lightness, grace.


So, that is what is currently up in my mind.

And yes, I’m an artist, so you’re probably thinking, why can’t she just design it herself? Well, one, I don’t mind the quill being someone else’s work. The writing is my own, that is what is important. Two, I’m just not that good, and I want this tattoo to be perfect.
Some people have said ‘why not have a tattoo artist just design it for you?’, well, my response is, why have just one good local artist create an idea when you can have a bunch from around the world help you out?

Soooo, and now my main point (it’s been long coming):

I would LOVE it if any of you awesome people on DA would help me come up with a design for my next tattoo. I hesitate calling this a contest, because I am NOT just going to choose a winner and then slap whatever they come up with on my body. Tattooing is serious business to me, it stays on me forever.
BUT I am so eager to see what the beautiful artistic minds of Deviant Art can envision!

If you enter an idea I will for sure feature it, there will be a winner and I will give them a three-month subscription, and if I actually decide to get the tattoo you designed I will give you a yearlong subscription as well!

I know it’s a lot to ask for not a lot of pay, but it would be amazing if some people entered to help me out!



As to what I want exactly, I will apologize because I really DO know what I want, I just can’t seem to get it on paper. That’s where you come in. :D

So, the area I would like it:



It would be SUPER cool if perhaps you could keep the design in that general area.

Here’s a list of what I’m thinking:

-Colors kept simple, just black, unless you can think of a good reason why color should be involved
-It should be a feather quill (that’s sorta the obvious one ;) )
-I don’t want it TOO complicated of a design, i.e. hard for the tattoo artist to get around. I also am a firm believer in ‘less is more’.
-I LOVE Victorian style art and old-fashioned tattoos, I would prefer something in a style like this.

But other than that, let your creativity take wing! (pun intended, oh gosh, I hope that was a good pun, I’m never good with those!)

THINGS NOT TO DO:
-Please no clip art, I would love for this to be an original drawing, straight from your wonderful brain
-Since I may put this on my body your image must not be stolen or taken from any copyrighted source, I will hopefully just trust you on that

I think that’s it…
