@ 4/07/2006 So the first chat session is over; Sadly, few people attended and I'm really curious to find out why since we hosted it all night long. Anyway, here are the topics of discussion, and what was said of them, for the rest of you:

1. Star systems.

We are looking for a round about another 50 or so star systems to fill Phaera. This means that the writing team should get writing, and fill the outer regions of the galaxy up.

2. Alliances

~spirit-fall and ~transferal have talked a little bit about alliances, not too much, but just enough for a rough baseline.

Yes, there will be alliances between planets/races, and there willl also be some hostile races.

At the moment there is no solid direction that we've taken the alliances. However, completely random alliances shouldn't be made, that would just be unrealistic.

Hostile territories can be created, but we'd rather that not everyone does so, otherwise we will end up with Phaera being overrun by them.

3. Collaborations

I will get a list of people who are willing to do collaborations, and post the list here.

As a second suggestion though, you could note everyone in the desired group (writers, spacescapes, etc) just asking them if they would collab with you.

4. Concept Artist

~Valatar has agreed to be the concept artist until someone else has been found.

~Valatars tools: Photoshop CS, Painter Essentials, and Wacom Graphire 4 tablet
~Valatars Skills: Doesn't have too many traditional skills, and has basic nebula skills

Anyone that wishes to become a Concept Artist should tell us their tools and skills, so that we can let people know. Thanks

5. WIPs

This was brought up by Valatar, but will be accountable to others aswell.

Any WIPs that are done, you can post them on CGS (CG Society) for help. BUT, please say that it is for Phaera so that there aren't any conflicts.

Big thanks to =Nameless-Designer , ~BPauba , ~outeq , ~Valatar, and *BetulaNigra, who all made an effort and turned up to this session.

Another session will be planned for the future, and we expect more of you to turn up.

@ 25/06/2006 Liam ~spirit-fall and Chris ~transferal are looking for some concept artists to help them with the technical documentation for Phase II. They're currently working out the 'look' of many of the physical aspects of Phaeran daily life (travel, communications, technology), and they'd appreciate a talented bunch of artists to help them with that. It's all well and good to have a thirty-thousand word essay, but we all know a picture looks a hell of a lot nicer.
Please contact ~transferal or ~spirit-fall if you're interested; This is your chance to make a huge mark on Phaera!

Q: Wait, weren't we supposed to wait for the writers to finish their planets?

A: The Writers already "designed" a considerable number of planets (have you watched ~Phaera lately?). There's no need to wait anylonger - we can do it symultaneous

Q: Great, so how do I start making art? Do I simply pick a planet and design it?

A: Obviously, that's not a valid option, since two or more artists might want do the same planet. Because of this, we will "distribute" the planets on a first come first served criteria. So hurry up picking a planet! Also don't forget that collabs are encouraged, so you might want to talk with other fellow artists before picking something

Q: Sounds like a plan. So how do I pick a planet?

A: Firstly, go and read all the planet description submited to ~Phaera (if you haven't done so until now). When you find one that you like, check the list to make sure noone else already picked it. Then simply send =Suirebit a note with the planet you wish to start working on. That's it!

Q: Allright! Is there anything else I need to know?

A: Yes. I ask you...no, I beg you to start using the forums ([link]) in order to meet the team! The writers are doing a great job but the other groups lack communication! Guideline for Phase 1

This is the general guide for Phase 1. Please read it carefully!!
If you have any other questions after you read it please don't hesitate to contact us!

As you already know, the goal of Phase 1 is to populate our galaxy. This means planets, races, systems and so on. As easy as it seems, I must make you aware however that when you design a planet YOU MUST also write about the solar system it belongs too. This part is important for the spacescapers so do not neglect it!

Schematic, a planet description should look like this:

-Planet Name
-Solar System (Name, How many planets it has, What other "space objects" it has (nebulas, asteroid belts etc.), Where are those instances, What kind of Sun it has) --> Important for Spacescapers!

-Planet Orbit (How many moons it has, What are the moons names, How many rings it has, Are there asteroid belts?, What is the planet angle versus orbit, how much it takes to make a full rotation around the Sun)

-Planet (Atmosphere, Ecosystems & Their Distribution, Unique species, Races, Culture and so on)

How to submit

When you've done a planet please follow the next steps:

1) Submit it to your gallery. Please use as a preview our official Logo, and write in the description the copyright agreement you can find on our official forums.

2) Send =Suirebit and ~Phaera a link towards the submission.

3) Upon Validation you will receive a reply telling you if it was accepted or not.

Please note that not everything will be accepted! The most important criteria is consistency (NO RANDOM planets), that's why I ENCOURAGE you to design these planets together, as a team!

This was the motto that rallied together the most talented landscapers, space artists and writers of our community in what was to become one of the bigest and ambitious projects that DeviantArt ever seen.

Project Phaera is a real succes; Our team is made of no less than 80 professional artists, who are more than eager to show everyone that wonders do exist!

Now, I am more than sure that you have tons of unanswered questions, so be patient and read everything that follows, as most likely it will answer everything.

[Project Briefing]

[1.Basic Rules]

We cannot start anything until you fully read and understand our rules. That's why I ask you to go to our forums and read them prior to this briefing!

[2.Kickstart]

You've probably already heard about the kickstart and wonder what this is all about; Prior to the official start, the directors done a couple of collabs between them, both to set up an example and a base for our project. This was called 'The Kickstart'. You will find all the kickstart materials at the end of this briefing

[3.Phases]

The most asked question so far was "How will this project actually work?"
The easiest way to explain it is by pointing out the main ideas that were discussed at our last staff meeting:

1) Do not worry about management. The Directors will tell you everything you need to know when the right time comes!

2) The Project will be done in several Phases, as follows:

Phase 1 (Start): The Writing Team will set up the bases of this galaxy. This includes History, Planets Naming, Solar Systems Naming, Sectors, Races, Characters and so on. ETA: 3 to 4 weeks

Hence, the following weeks after the start "belong" to the writers!

Phase 2: A database of the so created instances will be made. The SpaceArt team will then distribute them evenly among themselves and will start creating the Visual Galaxy, based upon the writers descriptions. Same thing goes for the Landscapers: When a planet is created, getcracking!

Phase 3: The Writers turn again. Now they will shape the basic story that link the instances of this galaxy.

Phase 4: The Writers will create the final saga, and if needed, extra images will be created to support the storyline.

Phase 5: Staff will assemble the final product.

[4.Submissions]

These are the General Submission Guideliness! Each group will receive additional rules when their Phase comes!
To Submit an artwork to the project, please follow the next steps:

1) Include the Official Project Logo ([link]) ;

2) Do not add copyright text or anything else except for the title! We will make sure you will get all the credits.

3) Submit the artwork to your gallery, adding in the description the following copyright agreement :

By submitting this artwork to deviantART, I give the Phaera staff full permission to display, crop, resize and frame my work, as long as the work is used within the Phaera project, be it for promotional purposes or final displays. The Phaerastaff is allowed to use this image without notifying me beforehand, yet I, the artist, must be properly credited for my due work.

4) Send ~Phaera a note with a link towards that artwork. IF you do not respect rules 1)-3) the submission will NOT be validated!

5) Upon validation you will receive a reply which will tell you if your artwork was or was not accepted.
