So technically I'm published. Well, not yet. I wrote a story, and some big awesome people chose to give me money so they can show it around.

Thats how it works, right?

I won a contest over at the maddeningly awesome site "Nanoism." All the stories are made for tweets. The contest was to write a serial, a 5-piece story about a life, all done in those 140-character bits. I said "Why not?" and typed a random story right into the browser window.

That was a long while ago. Today I got an email informing me that I'd won, that I get money for something I made, that my stuff would be on a website for all to see.

That was five minutes ago. I've only just stopped running screaming through my dorm hallway, trying to find anyone who is still awake to tell them.

Now I wish I hadn't just typed the darn thing straight into the browser. Can't remember what I wrote. But I know it was based off of "Crooked," and it goes through the whole life of that little girl. I remember that I loved it, but I can't remember what I wrote!

BUT IT WAS GOOD ENOUGH FOR SOMEBODY, AND NOW I NEED TO GO START SCREAMING AGAIN. I love alla y'all, and I'm sorry I've been absent. I'll post again when they tell me my story is going up on the site.

Tomorrow I move to college, and start my seminars and classes and the like. Hopefully it wont be terribly hectic and frantic, and I'll still be able to keep up a steady flow of art. I mean, there will still be bus rides and boring classes, right? All the art may be in the margins of my notes, but hey, its something!

I have several new Flash Fictions in the works, but alas - my new schedule and life might send oneshotworlds into a temporary hiatus.

My book is currently being edited by a top-notch irl grammar/spelling expert (read: homeschool mom) and ought to be finished soooooon

In other news, I got into the Honors Program at the University I'm headed to! Woo! Still trying to figure out a way to get more funds though. I would love to start commissions, but still need a better way (better than paypal, which I dont trust at all) to get payment. As I already posted, I had a massive novice moment the FIRST time I gave my speech. In the middle of the speech, I knocked a cup of paint across the room, throwing paint all over the carpet and myself.

BUT WAIT! THERE'S MORE!

Later, I was waiting to give my speech for the second time. I decided to carry my props over near the door, for simplicity's sake. One of the props is a white bowl from World Market (mah favorite bowl!) with fake noodles in it. As Im carrying my table... the bowl fell off and shattered.

The Third Time, my boards (in the shape of a giant book) decide at the last moment (in the final section of the speech).
"Oh hai! We dont really want to stand up any more!"

So I was finishing up my speech with one hand laid evar-so-casually across my boards, desperately trying to grab my props and turn the pages.

BUT THEN, after ALL OF THAT, I broke to semi finals. Wooo! Of the 19 contestants, 12 go to semifinals.

All I could think was, "Whats the catastrophe going to be this time?"

Thankfully, the semi final catastrophe was a minor one. When I talk about chinese food, I reach around the back of my boards and pick up soy sauce and mung bean noodles. So I reach back and..

Where are my mung bean noodles?

I see them, on the floor, halfway across the room. Apparently they tried to make a break for the door at the last minute.

I just skipped them and went on, silently cursing them for abandoning me like that.

A few hours later, I'm sitting with my friend, as they run down the list of the announcements.
"Hey, If I dont break, I dont have to do anything until 630... hmm ... could go see a movie."
Then they said my name. I broke to finals!

The first thing that went through my mind was "Ah snap, that means I cant go see a WAIT WHAT I BROKE TO FINALS WHAT."

That means I have one more time to give my speech.

Nothing goes massively wrong in the final round, just a lot of little things. I dropped two of the props mid-speech and had to pick them up, I went 30 seconds over the 10-minute time limit, I said my lines out of order in the final bit of the speech.

In the final announcements, they call everyone who broke to semi-finals to come and stand, and then they call out names starting with 12th place. Last tournament, I got last place, I was the first name called up.

This time, they call a name.
Then another.
Then another.
It doesnt really sink in that they havent called me yet, until there's only one other person standing in the line, shaking my hand and telling me "Good luck."

Then they say my name.

Second! SECOND! After all the chaos and accidents, I cant even fathom how that happened.

Somehow I got up onto the stage, and they handed me a certificate thingy. I go to stand on the steps with the rest, and the lady says "Wait, you got second you get a medal." And hands me the medal.
I'm grinning stupidly "Oh ok thank you very much!"
She laughs "You're welcome very much?"

I stood on the steps, holding the certificate upside down, not... quite... alll... there...

So yah. Wow.

Im sitting here at a speech tournament, and since I cant scan and upload anything, I figured I'd share a horrible/funny story.

I have a speech on the Chinese Culture. Right around the middle (its 10 minutes long) I take out a paint cup, a brush, and I paint a chinese character and show the audience.
Ive practiced it over and over, and it always went smoothly.

BUT, in the middle of my speech, I got flustered. I was standing in the wrong spot, and when I corrected it - I FORGOT TO PICK THE CUP UP.

So, I turn the poster board to move on to the next subject, and THWACK. The cup full of BLACK PAINT goes flying across the room, all over the floor, my shoe, and my hand.

In front of an audience!

I finished the speech just fine (using my left hand for everything since paint was covering my right.) while paint slowly dribbled down into my shoe, and occasionally hopping to avoid the paint all over the carpet.

Im not actually embarrassed (it takes a LOT to embarrass me, and usually its when I let someone down.) I was just afraid I'd ruined the carpet!

But its all good now, and I have two more times to give my speech today. I've cut out the part with the paint though.

I would jump up an down and scream (again), but Im all hoarse from all the speaking!

Ok, so speech tournaments are officially awesomely awesome. You're sitting in a gym (school or church) for like 14 hours with all these other kids playing games and chatting and all your friends, and then running off to go give your speeches and then running back to be nervous with eachother as they announced the people who moved up to the next round. There were some AWESOME Duo performances, like a re-vamping of snow white ("I shrank my cats back to their normal size! Burnt my spells! Perfectly normal and respectable old hag now!") The Importance of Being Earnest ("ARE YOU ENGAGED TO THAT, THAT - THAT AWFUL CHILD OF GIRL, EARNEST?" *flutters fan angrily*) and one called Sherwood Ring ("Theres still that matter of you're marriage to me now, and I didnt manage to catch a reply last time, seeing how you had poisoned me and such.")

There were speeches about Starbucks, fishing, bread, cows, Merlin, languages. There were debates about Pragmatism and Idealism, and US India relations. IMPROMPTU SPEECHES too, so fun. It was really really awesome.

Plus, my two brothers brought cards. Now, you have to dress fancy for these things, right? So waaay over in the farthest corner, there were like 20 boys from ages 6 to 17. They're all in suits, with their jackets on and off and their ties loosened, lounging about while throwing cards and playing blackjack.
It looked like a scene out of "guys and dolls"

So yeah. My speech about writing a novel kinda bombed, my improptu speeches involved "Catholics VS Cannibals", and my speech about the Chinese language is GOING TO REGIONALS OMGOSHYEY.

Due to weird schedules and junk, we opened presents this morning. Dont ask. I got beading books, jewlery-making magazines, Zelda: Wind Waker, LOTR: The third age (which is really confusing, why cant they make up new things to happen, instead of it being a really weird copy of the movies?), and more metalworking stuff.

But I cant use anything because all my jewlery supplies are at Home, and... the little brothers have taken over the game console.

So Im sitting here, with a lack of sleep and an overabundance of caffiene, trying desperately to draw Twilight jokes... I fail. Nothing works out right, so instead I came here to rant. Rant Rant Rant Rant Rant

Oh, and seashells stink. I gathered 100 florida shells that would make AMAZING jewlery, but they would sooner catch fire than let me drill a little hole in them. DARN IT ALL.

Here is my wishlist for you!

1) An assassin, with a long heavy coat (for female) or a short bukly coat (For a guy, take a look at flight jackets, thats what I mean as far as the shape goes) short-short slicked back black hair, cargo-type pants, and an interesting weapon (if you are able) Can be girl or guy. Neutral, dark colors (brown, tan, black) for the clothes.

2) If landscapes are your thing, I love scifi, dark, dystopian cityscapes, crowded buildings and tall skyscrapers.

3) My (and friends) OC Dahlia. Here is a reference image (its old, so her face is a little odd [link]) Shes tall and skinny, with funky hair and funky - but functional! - clothes. She usually has a dark red/maroon long coat on. She is also a magician, so any kind of sparkly magical things will fit, if that is what you can do.

My first thought is not "Oh noes, cant do that!" Its "Where are YOU buying sketchbooks??? Im getting the cheapies at Wal-mart and Im still going broke!!"

Anyways...Design is FUN. O.o

So is Computer Graphics.

We made a grid of black boxes on a white Background, and sat there for an hour coming up with "subtle" (teacher kept shouting the word, the irony) designs. I could totally do that for hours on end. It was great. I suppose I'll put up what I came up with, since I actually really like the designs. (SUBTLE!)

Its only been two classes, and tomorrow I have to go out an buy $90 dollars worth of art supplies for the semester.

Ive made a whole ton of little charms (cheesecake chocolate cake slices the size of your pinky nail, animals, etc etc) but Im such a lazy-butt I havent taken any pictures.

Pretty sure thats everything new and exciting in my life... OH Im hopefully going to volunteer at a historical site, so that will be fun

I have like 30 people I have to go thank for faves, thanks everyone so muuuch!

I made a batch of these really really tiny cute animals, like penguins and rubber ducks with sculpey, so once those are painted and glazed (I have no patience

So I always glaze before the paint is done ruin it

) I also found some really great sculpey artists on DeviantArt so I have a hundred new tricks I want to try.

Today's project is my laptop - I already spray-painted it green, and figured out a neat design to put on it, but I have to figure out how to get the design, in the right proportions, onto the contact paper. Its.... not working out quite as easily as I'd thought.

Oh, and as to the title, Im teething. Wisdom teeth. They are taking their dear sweet time coming in while I sit here and die. Ow.

As you may have noticed, Im currently on a MAJOR Wallpaper kick. I've always loved and wanted to create things in this style, and now I finally figured out how. Its also amazing how quickly these things get faved. I was stunned to have 12 faves on a piece four minutes after uploading it.

When its a personal character, people dont tend to fave unless they're a long-time watcher. Fandom things of course get faves, its the same thing - you love to be familiar with the subject.

But its refreshing to make something without personal complication, without overprotection, without need of explanation. Something thats chaotic and beautiful. It has no meaning, no purpose other than to be pretty.

And its so gosh darned fun

But oh, not so this time around!!

You know in movies, when the soldiers are flying on the plane and theyre all sitting up against a wall in a row? In these little seats that fold down from the wall?

YEAH.

Theyre like, little tiny cheap lawn seats. NOT COMFY.

Now imagine you've had a total of 3 hours of sleep and you would like to sleep on this 5-hour flight! Well, its huge, and its barely heated. So if you lay on the floor or across some of the fold down seats (I havent yet decided which was more uncomfortable) but its also FREEZING.

But, in all that waiting I did manage to complete the preliminary work on my goddesses piece! They all have clothes, faces, and expressions now. I just have to finish the lineart, color it (im not going for anything fancy, Ive decided.) and figure out a *gulp* background. Eep.

And I get to meet my friiiieeeennddds!!!!!!!!! Yaaaay!!!!
And thats not actually my mood. Its broken.

I'm not kidding, we've been hiding in the basement for EVER. Its like the world just had a seizure out there - the lighting and thunder, the rain that cant decide if its hail or pouring or drizzling or... not.

In other news, I continue to have pirate ship dreams. Last night the ship was attacked, and the moron Navy soldiers got themselves all killed. It was really sad.....

Gah, I have weird dreams.

I got Sculpey clay though, and plan to make some cute little charm germ earrings for my Bio teacher - She looks like Ms Frizzle, and loves Magic School bus, so I plan to make some over-the-top Magic School Bus earrings.
