Wow, has this year flew by fast! O_o

Just yesterday I stood in the doorway of 2009 (read: January), fresh degree in hand, heading out to try and get into the workforces.
(Well, nothing has changed, really, since I'm still unemployed! )

But I'm looking forward to the holidays!
Christmas time is always my favourite time of year- I still feel like a little girl about it! I love the time with the family, since we're all pretty close regardless of our differences!

Looking really forward to the next few weeks- for one, my dad is coming back next Friday after four months in the United States, and I'm REALLY excited!

My awesome boyfriend ~psyclone is coming to visit just before Christmas (as is customary), which also coicidentally ties in with a friend of ours having her 21st the 19th.
Also, I'm planning to go to ~psyclone for New Year's (as usual), hoping to plan something decent this year!

Must say that this is the best thing about having it be summer over the holidays here- we can truly have the most epic New Year's and Christmas parties!

In other news: I have been booked for a wedding shoot at the end of January which I'm REALLY looking forward to- gonna be a BLAST! Hope this means more wedding shoots in the future!

Anyway, I'm REALLY lax these days with journal updates so.....

Looking at my gallery of late I've been really busy with art, which pleases me.

I need to start looking at Caffeine Warrior again, but right now I just have too much on my plate...
My camera is also angry at me for the neglect, but I will get to some photos again soon- if I somehow get the required inspiration, although I am planning something with the wonderful ~psyclone soon.

On another note- I'm FINALLY getting a website up!
I'm designing it myself, and putting it online with the help of my wonderful friend ~ekskies, who will be handling the coding for me!

Of course, I will be putting up the link here for you guys as soon as possible so you can see, but for now- patience is a virtue!
It ought to be up somewhere in mid-November or before then, since I'm hoping to finish the layout this week and give all the material to ~ekskies around the end of the month.

So one night while the boyfriend and I were at ~Saiyansmate's house, I started watching District 9 "by accident", as it were, and I MUST say I was PLEASANTLY surprised, and I DEFINITELY am a fan!

Now, my rant is in TWO stages; the first one much less serious and a lot more amusing than the other, so here goes:

UPSIDE:

I find it interesting how District 9 managed to make the whole world South-Africa and Afrikaans crazy since its release, even though half the foreigners can't even pronounce the swear-words!
It's not "fook" it's "FOK"! It's kinda like "fook", you just pronounce it shorter- kinda spit it out.

I see a lot of "swietie mans" surfacing in the near future, as well as a ton of foreign babies named Wikus.


FLIPSIDE:

I've come across a lot of people on forums bitching and moaning that it's about racism and Apartheid and whatnot. Sure, maybe it's loosely based around it, I believe that the original short film was made as a commentary about it, but why can't people just enjoy it as a bloody kickass sci-fi movie?

It's not about white or black or ANYTHING, why should South Africans still try to play the race card with EVERYTHING. Are we THAT childish and small-minded?

People whine about how "Wikus is not the good guy, the black guy who exposed it is"- does it matter? Is it about the character or is it about his skin colour? I betcha in bloody South Africa it's about the skin colour.
Which is BULLSHIT.

I thought we as South Africans are supposed to see everybody as PEOPLE, not skin colour. I understand that's what District 9 was probably commenting on, but come on now- why make it an issue?

This doesn't go out just to South Africans, but to EVERYONE- if you have some kind of race issue, then STFU and GTFO- you fail at life and everything. And also to all the non-South Africans who expect of all of us white South Africans to be black-hating monsters- FOK YOU TOO.

Hi all! It's been a while~!
I am really rather lazy when it comes to journals these days, guess that since I graduated nothing interesting has been happening.

Which is probably why I don't have anything newsworthy at the moment, but here goes anyway.

My photoshoot with the school was a roaring success- my aunt says the staff, children and parents LOVE my work, and they are ordering a lot of photos- which is really cool since not only do I need the money, but the more photos they order, the cheaper I can have them printed for!

The show was fun- a lot of kids dressed up as Elvis singing some legendary songs, and even if I had to see it three times, I really enjoyed it a lot, and felt kinda "empty" when it was over.
Guess it's just the actress in me- I miss school plays...


I also went for two job interviews recently and I didn't get either, which makes me wonder whether my degree is good enough or not.

Hey all, thought it might be time for a new journal, even though I can't stop drooling all over my Intuos4! STILL loving it!

Not much news, going for an interview on Monday, here's hoping I get it- I REALLY need a job.
Just when I thought my life can't get MORE boring, my friend ~Serve approached me for a collaborative art project! It's very hush-hush at the moment, so the when it's done and ready I will let you guys know. I hope to get a good turnout from it, so I'd love some support.

I have some photography work in the pipeline as well, including something for the local Primary (Elementary) School in September, which I am looking forward to, already did some design work for them as well.

Also might do a shoot for my friend ~ekskies and his band sometime soon...

And my friend ~yamigohan is turning 21 next Monday, but his party is on the 25th. REALLY looking forward to it... and also, YAY gift shopping!

Which also makes for another dAbscence, since I'm going to visit ~psyclone for a few days next week for his birthday, and then we come back here to my place (in time for Jacques' birthday party) where he's going to visit me for a bit as well...

Oh yes, my dad will be flying tot he United States for another four months next Sunday the 26th, this time to Louisiana... (He was in South Dakota last time). Luckily Philip is coming with me to the airport so I can say goodbye........

Anyways, I'm still jobless, and the staggering world economy is not helping either...
I sometimes wonder why life keeps giving me a glimmer of hope, and then just mercilessly yanks it out from under my ass. *sigh*
I'm in serious financial debt and I have no way of making ends meet, and I hate living (leeching) on my parents. For f's sake, I'm 21 years old- an adult and I'm still living at home with no job.
Please let me know if you know of anything in my line of work? You all know what I do- I was thinking of giving sax lessons but I'm not qualified, unfortunately. You need a degree for that sort of thing, just being "good" just doesn't cut it!
If anyone gives instrument lessons, I would like some advice regarding this, please!

In other news:

I am VERY proud of my sister, ~Saartjie, who got her driver's licence today!
She stressed a lot and is very happy that all the lessons are over! We laughed a lot about it today, I'm just glad that both of us have licences and don't have to go through all the crap anymore!

I went to see my boyfriend for a few days and I had a great time- we spent a lot of time alone though, since our friend Junior is overseas on holiday- first to Amsterdam and now in the USA. But I loved the alone time with him, was awesome! <3

I am really enjoying clarinet a LOT, it's such a great instrument: so similar and yet so different to my beloved sax I am glad and very lucky to be able to play it now and experiment with them both.
I'm looking forward to helping Phil with some music endeavours- even though Reason has a BRILLIANT orchestral soundbank, he still wants to record me on the clarinet for some of his stuff.
It's a lot of fun playing clarinet when he and Junior plays guitar.

Also, I am totally addicted to Yahoo! Answers!

Hi there all!
I felt it's time for an update, since I'm feeling rather detached from the world right now, haha!

So, what's new?
I've spent a great weekend with ~psyclone, although it was just way too short for my liking...
But, as always, it was amazing seeing him again and being with him- we went for sushi at our favourite haunt, and made music with the guitar and the clarinet (even though it probably didn't make any sense lol)

Furthermore, I'm hoping work picks up. I'm very worried.

Hey all!
So the 21st came and gone, and was it awesome!
I had great fun with all my friends who thought it important enough to come through and celebrate it with me! You guys are ridiculously awesome!
I won't be putting any photos up here, but for those of you who have me on facebook, do go and take a look-- I made an album there with some photos, and ~Ouji-San uploaded about 200 photos!

Also, my friends are made of epic and awesome, and got me the most epic gifts you can imagine-- amongst them being perfume, scarves, a custom made ring, and a clarinet!!!

Yes, I'm still VERY excited over the Bflat Clarinet ~psyclone got me for my birthday, although I'm still getting used to it! Having played sax for so long, getting into clarinet again was quite hard, but I started pwning in no time! Of course, I'm far from perfect, but for some reason I'm having some embouchure problems, and I'm going through reeds like water!
Because my clarinet is 2nd hand (and a student model), she's made out of ebonite, (or resonite, I'm not too sure), and I think she's in need of an overhaul... I hope that I can find a repair shop that can do that because she's not a Selmer or a Leblanc or anything like that, since I can't afford it!
But I need to have it cleaned and to get new accessories etc, so here's my to-do list!

- General overhaul (recorking, repadding, cleaning etc)
- New reeds (a selection ranging from Vandoren 2 to 4)
- New mouthpiece,preferably a Selmer or Vandoren, since my Rico C5 Graftonite has a VERY flimsy ligature.
- Cork grease (I'm running out)
- New swabs

I'm also hoping that the clarinet we got is a good one since I can't afford any of the big names... since the only thing I know that is slightly comforting at the moment is the fact that I know the original owner didn't buy the clarinet for like, $100.
Maybe I will buy myself a more professional one later on...

In other news, I still don't have a job yet, and I'm very worried, especially since I didn't get the comic artist job I applied for. *sigh*

for a long time i have been trying to hide from, or just hide, the feelings brewing inside me. i'm thinking that a lot of it stemmed from the stress i have been experiencing lately due to all the pressure i've been put under.
said pressure is greatly (if not completely) caused by the fact that i can't get a damn job, which wouldn't have been this bad if i didn't have a R135000 ($13500/€12300/£9642) study debt that i need to start paying back in june.
yes, two months might seem like ample time to try and get a job, but do bear in mind that i have been scouring the internet, local papers and more for the past four months with no luck.
the only luck i do get is the empty promises some places and people make by saying "oh yeah, sure we will call you soon about some work" and never do.
otherwise, my portfolio and possible employers's delete button are very well acquainted.
i recieve emails of people telling me my work isn't good enough, which leads me to believe that the academy gave me my degree to just get rid of me.
speaking of degree, one company actually replied telling me i'm overqualified, which is complete and utter bullshit because i only have a bachelor's degree and not a honour's or a master's or a doctorate.
i get told by people close to me that i will never make it as a designer or get a job as one, and that i'm a failure because i didn't go and study a real profession, such as a doctor or a lawyer or an engineer. so basically, i am resented because i spent three years studying for a bachelor of arts instead of an Mb Chb.
i'm so depressed right now that i don't have the will to pick up my camera and take photos, or pick up the pencil and draw or to open illustrator or photoshop.
i am scared shitless about my future because i don't know what to do. and everybody gives me the same old same old "everything happens for a reason" and "don't worry, you know what it's like getting a job in south africa" comfort-clichés, but somehow, they don't make me feel any better.
i've tried improving my work, i've tried deconstructing it completely but nothing changes. i have seven different portfolios-- each catering to impress just about every type of company, but to no avail.
my life is going nowhere, with the only good things about it being my boyfriend and a few select friends but i don't know for how long they will be able to put up with me like this, because i can barely put up with me anymore...

Hey all!
Hope you're all doing well and stuff! Is time for new journal update, methinks!
Not that there's much going on, mind you!

Before I get ahead with the meagre little obligatory life update, I would like to wish all of my friends a very happy Easter! _{yes, yes, I KNOW it's technically a Christian/Jewsih/whatever holiday, but let's not argue semantics here...}

Furthermore, Easter will be even more of an awesome, since ~psyclone and I can spend the entire Easter weekend watching my parents' house while my parents are in the Bosveld!

Also, my dad's visa got approved last Thursday and he's flying to the United States for another eight months. Don't know if I should be happy or not, because he's been a bit of a pain lately... Knowing myself, I will probably cry for another three weeks after he's left... *sigh*

So, in its place, I just adding yet another run-of-the-mill boring, what-my-life-is-like journal.

Job-wise, things are kind of looking up, I'm going for an interview Friday, but I don't want to jinx it by saying too much, here's hoping I get it!

However, I'm still looking for commissions, since my dad keeps on reminding me of my damn studyloan that I need to pay off, although he's basically going back on his word about a few things... but that I will not discuss here, sorry.

So you all know I had to go to the doctor, right?
So I did.
Turns out my mole thingy is fine and need not be removed, but I only need to have it checked up on every year.

Either way, I had a checkup done, which did a good job of alleviating a lot of the hypochondria of the past few weeks, but it revealed that I have a bladder infection.
Luckily it's nothing to worry about, because I got a course of antibiotics to fix it up.

However, the downside: it hurts like hell....

I got my degree in design last year, (as some of you might know), but now I'm not getting a job...

As you might remember my previous journal about labels?
Well, the one that really hit home, was the one about feminism, and it was also the one you guys responded to the most.

Well, I think a lot of people these days take the term "feminism" a lot differently, because they probably think of feminists as Suffragettes or something.

In my case, it is more that I don't feel like I'm only destined to be a housewife.
The reason for this is mainly because my boyfriend's mother is fairly old school, and insists that I should stop working if I get married and just rear kids for the rest of my life.
As ~clipnotdone would say: THE FUCK?????

So, what gives me my feministic views is the fact that I don't like to be told not to have a career or anything because that's the man's job. It's not.
I mean, come on.
In our house, my dad does the cooking because he likes it.
My mom works, as does he.

I don't believe that women are only meant to be breeding machines etc, which is not just because I'm a woman myself.
I mean, in Christianity, it is believed that God made Eve from Adam's ribs because He wanted them to be EQUAL.

So why do people, especially old school mummies think that women are only meant to cook and clean and may not earn more than men etc?

I had a pretty good one myself, just spending some quiet time with the boyfriend and friends... drank way too much pink champagne for my own good...

The most exciting part of my week would be going to the Ysterplaat Air Force Base, where I'm going to be taking photos of their jets and other aircraft that's been in service with the South African Air Force for a few years now.

Everybody's doing it, and I'm no different!
I'd like to wish all of my deviant friends in every country and every timezone VERY happy Holidays!


I had a talk about holidays with ~Orrissey and ~psyclone last night, and it got me thinking. Since Ori comes from a Jewish family, they celebrate Channukka, and Phil and I being Christians, celebrate Christmas.

However, it struck me that some people forget that Christmas is, in fact, a religious holiday.
In other words, what's a religious holiday to us Christians, (it marks the Birth of our Saviour on Earth, for those who don't know), has been globally exploited to make money out of.
Why?
Because we give presents.

Why do we give presents?
Because it is symbolic of the Present that God gave us, and it symbolises the present of the three Magi to Jesus.
The tree symbolises life, and the star on top is reference to the Star of Bethlehem.

NO, I'M NOT BASHING ANYONE.

I merely find it strange how some so-called Atheists and even Satanists celebrate Christmas, since some of them actually denounce God.


But anyway, I don't want to start a fight, it's Holidays, and this time of year, I think everybody is celebrating something, even if it's just a little bit of down-time.

I'm just putting my thoughts out there... and don't go flaming me because I'm a Christian either. I don't bash other religions.

So, excitement reigns over my awesome tablet-shaped christmas present!!!! Still!!!

In other news, my cousin is getting married next Saturday.

She was gonna get married in April, but then moved it because she's liek "zomfgeSOinloooooooooooooooove..."... -_-
also worth a mention that she got engaged three weeks after she met her husband-to-be... Phil and I have been together for longer than they've known each other...

So tomorrow is the kitchen tea. To which I'm not going.

I figured that since I can't will myself to even pick up a pencil, I think it's time to take a break from drawing altogether until I can find the guts to start going at it again.

Also, this year has been artistically taxing, so the break is well deserved. I would also like to experiment with different mediums, but I need to stock up on materials, such as markers, etc.

In the meantime, I will be focusing on photography, which I have neglected this year, to my own disappointment.

Hey all, just thought I would make some sort of update...
Well, as many of you know, I'm STILL dead excited about FINALLY getting my degree, and it gets worse as it's finally beginning to sink in...

Last night was the Graduate Exhibition, and my mom, sister and I went to check it out, as well as ~psyclone and his father.

Was kinda cool, except there was nothing new to me, since it was work that I've been seeing all year round...

But, it was nice to see my friends again, who I haven't seen since class broke off a few weeks ago for our internships. I missed ~inmyveins, but I managed to hook up with ~WordOfSorrow and ~tarynward, and it was awesome to see them again...

So yeah, as far as studies go, I get to wear the gown next saturday at graduation... and to my expectations, my mother has already designated a spot near the front door of our house to put my graduate photo up...
I've heard SO many "so-proud-of-our-little-girl" comments it's not even funny anymore...

Once again, thanks to EVERYONE who showed their support and believed in me... <3


In other news, my dad has been back for almost a month now, which is really awesome, but he is somewhat of a pain...

However, he and my mom are going away for the weekend, leaving me and the boyfriend and the siblings to gaurd the house, so some peace and quiet will be welcomed...

Sorry I haven't submitted anything in a while, but I will try to do something soon, maybe a pic or something, while I'm still obsessed with Illustrator after my vector comic, but for those of you who liked my Photoshop work, don't worry, I'm not deviating too far from it...

I still need to test out that piece of shit tablet I have in Photoshop when I'm colouring in a pic with it, so I will get back to that soon...

So yeah, that's about it from me for now... will update as I go along...
Not much to mention else, so I'm gonna sign off... sorry if I'm slow to comment replies, but I will eventually get to them, promise!

I know these days all my journals are a cry for help... so sorry about that...

Thing is, my dad bought himself a Dell Inspiron 1721 laptop in the United States while he was there, and now we're having some troubles with it...

You see, my dad wants to connect wirelessly to our DSL router, but apparently, the wireless connection thing on the laptop needs to be activated...

I've checked out some stuff on forums, but I didn't find anything that hasn't to do with Linux, and I don't want to fiddle there, because I'm not so up to date with Linux...


Please if anyone knows what I can do, let me know?
(All the Dell Quickset, "easy routes" if you wish, didn't work...)



AND! I got a new lens from my dad for my birthday!
He bought me a Canon 75-300mm zoomlens in the States!

So here I'm sitting, third day into my intern, and I really DO feel out of place... I sometimes think I chose the wrong company to intern at because they are all slightly snobberish. Maybe this is just me being childish, but really...
I wanted to go into the animation industry because I felt that designers are made up out of snobbery, but it seems like the whole creative industry is.

Some reasons for this rant:
- Tiredness
- Overworkedness
- Frustratedness


I can't help but feel REALLY out of place here...

Yeah, I KNOW I didn't study animation, but really... it's not like I don't have ANY experience at ALL, and i DO have a LOT of passion for what I want to do.
