Stupid @#$%^@# Computer

Well it's an easy fix ... but it wasn't a virus.
Yet another HD bites the dust. I kinda figured that but was hoping for the virus. Bleh.
Well should have it back by Thurs.

Did a little pic of my character for me in excahnge for a feature so here it is.

I went to the Toronto Dev meet on the 17th and had a grand time.
~Minomaru and myself met up with `neo-the-foxycoon at the GO station and rode into Toronto where we made our way to the Distillery District. We were way early and waited outside the Mill St. Bakery for everyone else...some of who were late

It was a good turn out and I met some new people as well as a few from the last HQ meet. After wandering the distillery district and yapping for a few hours the older deviants went for a late lunch before making our way to the Cadillac Cafe where the fun continued.

`IBinsanity Insisted I looked like `hexentanz who apparently lives in Germany.
Overall it was a fun day and I would certainly do it again though because I live outside Toronto it probably won't be until the new year.

Feature and Self Promotion

Did a little pic of my character for me in excahnge for a feature so here it is.

Now onto the self promotion.
$Moonbeam13 says it's self promotion month and is encouraging the community to do a little self artistic bio in their journals so here goes.

My name is Kimberly or *PixlPhantasy and I live in Canada.
I have been drawing since I can remember. My passions in art include animals and anthros usually. I dabble in both traditional and digital mediums and I'm also prone to pick up a camera now and then.

My inspiration comes from family and friends and a love for the cartoon world. Artistic ability has been in my families branches for some time. My grandfather used to do graphic work, my mother decorates cakes, my father writes poetry and I have one rather well known cousin in the wildlife arts.

I stopped drawing for about 10 years due to vision problems but I'm getting back on the bandwagon. In five years I simply hope to be better than I am now and continue learning new things and meeting new people who share the same passions.

Conservation, Dedication & Dreams

~HeWhoWalksWithTigers (Eric Ash) has a dream and he's worked diligently in order to achieve it.
What is his dream? His own words say it best.

"A long time ago, I saw a man on television who taught me about wildlife and conservation. This man's name was Steve Irwin, the Croc Hunter. As a result of his passion for wildlife, I've dedicated my life to conservation and have been struggling for years to promote saving the tiger in particular. I even stopped pursuing a career in photography to go to university (where I am now) so I could study environmental sciences and use that to get a career in tiger conservation. I live the khaki life every day.

Ever since I starting living for conservation (otherwise known as "khaki'ing it"), it's been a dream of mine to visit the place the Irwin's call home: the world famous Australia Zoo. Part of the reason has been to experience what the Irwin's have built, but also to be able to thank the Irwin's myself for helping to imbuing me with a passion for wanting to make a difference - they really have changed my life. It's been a dream I've accepted as being very unlikely to manifest due to the expenses associated with flying from North America...until now."

~HeWhoWalksWithTigers has a chance to see his dream come true. The Australian Zoo is holding a contest about your own conversation work. The catch is, because it is in part on YouTube, it becomes a popularity contest.

• Subway: Take Subway to Castle Frank station on the Bloor line. Connect to Bus 65A Parliament. Ride bus straight down Parliament. Exit at Front St. and walk one block south to Mill St.
• King streetcar: Take 504 King street car. Exit at King and Parliament. Walk 2 blocks south on Parliament to Mill St.
• Cherry St. Bus 172: Front & Bay St. to Cherry Beach via The Esplanade and Mill St.

Our specific meeting point will be the MAIN GATES at Mill St.! It'd be hard to miss.

OMG I didn't know until just a few hours before heading to the lake but Shiloh was making an appearance that night on the main stage.

Shiloh has entered in many contests and competitions for singing, such as a radio contest for The Bounce (91.7 CHBN-FM) in Edmonton, Alberta in which she won, that helped her start her career in singing. Shiloh's first single is entitled "Operator (A Girl Like Me)" which charted on the Canadian Hot 100 and listed her as Billboard Canada's #1 Emerging Talent Artist as of December 19, 2008. [3] Operator (A Girl Like Me) is included on Much Dance 2009 CD. Shiloh has performed with Lady GaGa, Hedley, Theory of a Deadman, and Marianas Trench.

The music video for Shiloh's second single "Goodbye, You Suck" premiered on January 30, 2009. It debuted on the Canadian Hot 100 at 73, then fell off the charts the following week.

Shiloh's next single is entitled "Alright"; a music video was released on June 17, 2009. Her debut album is set to release in June 2009 in Canada. It will be released in the USA in the summer of 2009 through Universal Republic.

Shiloh also released a single years before her debut that had great airplay all over Canada called "All I Want".

Shiloh appeared on Much On Demand on June 4, 2009 and performed "Goodbye, You Suck". She was a nominee for the 2009 MuchMusic Video Awards as well as being an announced performer.[4][5] She performed "Operator (A Girl Like Me)" at the MuchMusic Video Awards on June 21, 2009 but lost in both categories she was nominated in: Pop Video of the Year and UR Fave: New Artist to Danny Fernandes and The Midway State. Ok seriously...this is getting annoying. I have to keep switiching to IE, which I despise, in order to sign into my dA account and I only have to do this on the laptop. The laptop runs Vista and the main pc runs XP. XP I have no issues with. This just started about 2 days ago and its annoying the hell outa me!!!

He bought me a shiny new camera for our anniversary. My old point and shoot digital was starting to act up...I think it's possessed.

So now I have a Canon Rebel XSi 12.2mp Digital SLR.

ZOMG It's got soo many buttons!

I haven't used a SLR in over 10 years. I got some reading to catch up on

He recently made a post in the forums about critiquing. He started the thread back in February I believe but with the new critiquing system on dA, what better time to point it out.

So, starting with the words of the talented and experienced

"I think I've covered this topic before, but there are a ton of young people on Deviant, and the simple truth is that many of them, although they may possess well developed opinions regarding critiques, DO NOT understand how they are used or applied in the real world.

School is not the real world. Neither is home, and the web is DEFINITELY not the real world.

What is the purpose of a critique?

Well, one purpose it is not required fulfill is to make you feel good about your work. If the sole result of a delivered critique is that is makes you feel good about your work, it is not a critique, it is an ACCOLADE.

A critique serves two principle functions in the real world.

One; it serves to educate. It points out areas in your work that need attention and possible improvement, and, at the very least, may deserve further practice or repetition on your part to perfect.

Two: it serves to describe the differences between how you see your work, and how another sees it. This can be also very educational to anyone who truly attempts to derive the most from any opportunity to learn more about their craft."
