Hi there, if you have dropped by (and chances are you will after reading this) you will notice I have moved a LOT of art around. Well, the long overdue clean out has begun. I will most likely start getting rid of art dating back 3 years or more when I start posting new stuff up.

Long, looooong overdue.

I've been livin my life as a normal Jane the last year now. Feels weird to have a steady job... going on a year now. But sometimes I wonder how long that may last with these economic storms. Right now I have the flu and am living on chicken soup, cough medicine and neocitran. I have a B-Boy roommate from California (I kid you not) who's music tastes I totaly dig - he's moving home in December. I am looking for a new roomie

Anyone State side wanna brave the Calgary Canadian winter? Rent is $450? Heh heh.

Life has been okay. How are you all doing?

Here be a rant:

The more things change, the more they stay the same. I hate that quote as much as someone saying "Keri, we need to talk."

Hate that, hate that, hate those words so much X/

*cough* Anyways, problem I came across:

I am currently looking at Molly Hayes fanart from the Runaways by Marvel (very cool story) and came across some artists that claim to be artists but in many eyes they need to break AWAY from the TRACING of other famous artist's work. We are talking the likes of Jim Lee and Scott Campbell and M. Turner just to name a few recognizable - some cover art (?). They don't even list their art under fan stuff, they just attach their names to their crappy traces and post it on HERE for all to see. Daw, there seems to be a community for these people - it's a wee bit hard on the eyes how squishy heart lovin' these groups are.
I haven't seen any DA artist's recognizable work (some are that bad), and if I do find anythin concrete - I'll note the original. But my goshly-darn TRACES???? - treading that fine line between stealing and calling it your own (is it stealing?). And many of us have mentioned with past rants this being a form of flattery, right? And the need for attention - whether it be positive, negative or whatever, huh?
After the age of 16 you would think they would learn to make up their own thing (I did! At a young age I figured out not to fib one's abilities - but sometimes how else can you learn????)... But some of these people CLAIM to be in their 20's (doubtful - I know some of you have changed accounts because you wanted to see adult work) and I would have thought they would know enough to say "hey this was originally done by such'n'such, this is my take on blah blah blah" at least acknowledge where they got their source material from - or that a faux pas as well???

*snarl*

This is freakin' frustrating to see....

and it all boils down to me having a hang-over, my face hurts, I am love-sick AND slightly jealous at the amount of faves they get while I see little to nothin'. Go fig - bloody shame.

28 years old and angstin' like a teen. Shoot me head first into bed and don't bother wakin me up until after noon.

There is no such thing as talent.
People call me 'talented'. Whatever. I have the ability when I apply it and do it around the clock. You can out do me easily with determination and hard work - learning the newest trick online and from proper classes. Drawing everyday and constant critiques on what can be done the best way we know how until... you have what you want... your own style. Your own art. It comes when you ask it to. Talent is not a word you want to use around your muses.
Your muses are the drive to do it.
Those of us who are more naturally inclined to pick up a crayon at an early age and scribble on every bit of surface we can find are labeled 'talented'.... annnd... other things. And if current society doesn't kill that creativity we go on to make a career out of it. Risky biz.
But there are others that become determined later on to draw and paint and do it well... look at Mark and all the others who started later on in their teens. They decided later on and kept at it. It's just a mental muscle group you have to train.
If you don't use it.... you loose it.

I speak from experience. I don't draw as much when I have a full or part time job. My mind becomes rooted in reality. I don't have the patience and I am usually pretty tired when I think about doing anything artistic. What happens when a limb or muscle is in disuse for a long period of time? Atrophy? Loss of muscle mass and strength. Same thing with art. I'm not as strong as I could be... will be...

Just a heads up.
Not dead but I haven't been drawing or doing anything artistic in what feels like forever.
I moved closer to downtown with my mom. Yay!
I'm dating again. Woot!
Receiving a MacBook Pro for my birthday was a huge uplifting thing for me this year. No art programs yet... Booooooooo.
Lost my grandmother on the 16 of July. Missin' her. I'm glad I went in to see her a few hours before she left. I couldn't take going to her funeral.
I had minor surgery that scared the... you know what out of me a week later.
And now I'm back to looking for work in a city that's starving for workers (still healing from surgery tho - ah time, give it time).

School is in my near future...

So now you have it. My life the last few months. How are you doing? What's new? How can I make your week?

I lost my cat of 14 yrs to... Lord knows what... I would have loved to know but... eeehhhh... money... expense... the canadian health care don't do free pet care... bastards.

Her name was Miss Mouse... or just Mousy for short. A little shorthair, black and white cat with an identity crisis (she thought she was part dog). I grew up with her. She'd seen me through my fragile teenage years always with love and cuddles and purring away with that little motor - never judging... pets do that best, ya know what I'm saying? She loved to talk... a lot. She had a different meow for everything. She lost her tail and one of her 9 lives when she was 6. She used to hop like a rabbit when she ran (bad leg). She was a beautiful little cat - a blotch of black on her small upturned nose and chin. Big yellow eyes and large alert ears. When she was interested in what you were doing she look at your face and saying something. She was sooooo loved by everyone who met her... well, except for those seriously opposed to feline companionship.
Monday, July 30th 2007, around 9pm I witnessed the last of Mouse. I didn't want her to be alone. I am still heartbroken but she could barely walk and talk.... she'd only purr. I had a friend and an awesome vet there and yeah... I just wanna say - get it out there on the world wide web - that that little Mouse pulled something aweful on my heartstrings when she passed over. She was the sweetest little thing and I will miss her.

I am... if anything - right now - being a bum. I hate it. Lazy, Unmotivated, feeling 'icky' and my brain stutters on the idea of any high hopes of a good job. Bills need to be paid damnit and here I am... thinking... thinking...
My mom is currently visiting me from Manitoba and she seems to be suffering almost the same sort of 'ick' as I... the lack of energy. Not wanting to do much or anything.... so it's good to pull out new books, make a pot of coffee and just enjoy each others company in silence. What's the thing with romance novels anyways... my mom is hooked on them - er, the well thought out - not too racey but still lots of fore-play (sp?) - type of romance.

I personally still don't know what to think of them after reading all of my mother's Karen Marie Moning - Highlander series... this author seems to have a formula down... introduce female charater as pretty, very brainy with no family left alive (Mary Sue!)... then put them into a awkward predicament with hero (a very attractive tall brawny one at that!)... then let hero try many times to woo heroette only to be turned down left, right and all round... heroette then discovers she is jealous when other women look at hero and is confused by her feelings... another character usually then steps in at this point and nudges heroette to take said advances from hero and they 'mate' - a couple - NO..... dozens of times... hero discovers he is 'in love' and thinks she is his 'soul mate' of sorts... hero wants to marry heroette... then a turn of events and hero supposedly dies... DIES - not! Nooooo no no nooooo! Heroette feels as if her life has been thrown into shambles, her heart being ripped out and she tries to get on with her life like any normal heroette can... then hero pops backi nto their life and they kiss again... mate a dozen more times and live happily ever after... OH and heroette is always a virgin... the hero always has a bigger than life package... heh heh as if!

The virgin thing bothers me... wtf is with the virgins in these books? Virginity - Dare I say I'm both jealous and relieved that that part of my life is over with. Marrige also seems like the big thang in these books.. and Soul Mates? I don't exactly believe in them... nor do I want to...

I think I'll stick to my fantasy, mysteries, thrillers, sci-fi, fanfics. Romance novels suck.

*cough* An-E-ways, The trip tp British Columbia was awesome... beyond awesome... inspiring. I want to move there. You would have been laughing your asses off at me the day I saw the ocean... seriously...

New: Just want to say thanks to those of you who have supported me and kept positive and somehow manage to stay believing in me when there was a lot of sh'tuff going on my life. I'm still working at it. Thought some things have slowed down other things are starting to pick up. I seem to have made a small career out of freelance illustrating at the moment. I'll tell more after the job is complete. Wish me luck.

01)Who would make a better college professor, 6 or 11? What subjects would they teach?
That's an interesting question... Junko or Liath... Liath would be interesting considering he is/was immortal and has been stuck in a piece of jewlery for the better part of the millenium. His subject of choice - HIStory... he's been around for thousands of years - problem: he'd just tell it all his way. Which would make for interesting material and give most of the other professors of the History Department mental breakdowns with his askewments.
Junko on the other hand... she's not the scholar type. She's an ex-samurai working for the american gov't. She's a paid spook - a MIB type.
02) Do you think 2 is hot? How hot?
Jude? Well, yeah to me. He's very molestible.

O.o;; Oh the strangeness... Lessee here... Oya would no doubt send Normal on some random errands that nearly get him killed - a few times, then get him to find someway to increase her luck in some get-rich scheme she horked up.
04) What is or would be 9's favorite book?
Tucker, Tucker, Tucker... he doesn't always have lots of time to read because of work. Being a mechanic and towing is his business. But I see him with piles of books and he does read news papers every evening. Tuck is well learned but he doesn't just have one book he likes, he has a vault - He has an ancient copy of the Eddas in Old Norse. He also retains all of Shakepears works because they tie in so closely with life around the Gargoyles - he has even gone as far to get 17th century first editions. Numerous copies of King Arthur in the Knights of the Round Table and parchments of old recounts of battles and prophecys that he doesn't understand himself.. he hords books like he does teasure.
Poker for Dummies... long story short, Tucker tried playing strip poker with three young ladies and ended up in his boxers. No one wants to see a hairy, half nekkid dwarf and least of all the dwarf himself if everyone is gonna laugh at him and he has no weapon to take revenge with...
05) Would it make more sense for 2 to swear fealty to 6, or the other way around?
We'd be at a standoff... and maybe a war of words (or worse). Liath is the supernatural bad ass and Jude is the psychic hero type. Buuuuut, it ultimatly depends on the circumstances. Liath would lie out of convenience and Jude would know it.
06) For some reason, 5 is looking for a roommate. Should he share a studio apartment with 9 or with 10?

Lessee here.... I can see Erik havin a studio apartment - why he would need/want roommate is beyond me? (I'll leave this up to the Phans out there)
Tucker is a dwarf and he's inked head to toe in tats... he sticks out as much as Erik would without a mask... but Tucker would be the pretty one. They would have a lot in common. Mechanical genius, a love for weapons, old fashioned habits, can see in the dark, hear really well, don't like sunlight - total night owls, both like to keep their heads clean shaven, yadda yadda yadda
Draw backs: Height difference! Tuck is only - what - *looks at his bio* 4'10" and Erik is a good 6 and a half feet tall... it would drive Tucker crazy to have things out of reach! Tucker has a temper... so does Erik... living together would invite bad things to happen. The fight would amuse me.
Stella much like Tucker is covered in a good number of tats but has over a dozen piercings. Is also short of stature (5'3"), on the chubby-curvy side of the ideal woman and is a little scarey in everything she does. But she loves LOVES music. She is a Disc Jockey at a small radio station. She practically lives at the station so Erik wouldn't have to deal with her *loudness* and motormouth tendancies. I kinda think they'd get along - longer than Tucker and Erik would anyways.
07) 2, 7 and 12 have dinner together. Where do they go, and what do they discuss?
Vietnamies (Salad rolls and spicy noodle soup are wonderful things). Karmen would be testing Jude's psychic abilities. Oya would be talking "buisness" with Karmen. Jude would be trying to explain why mixed tapes are great presents - then Karmen and Jude would be explaining what mixed tapes are to Oya (the futuristic Mars born human/elemental pirate)*shrugs*.
08) 3 challenges 10 to a duel. What happens?

I have officially caught the influenza bug that was going around... at work none-the-less (same time last year too!) around much dust and sparkles. Drippy/sneezy nose = icky. I was so close to running around with a wad of kleenex stuck up my left nostle... not a pretty sight - would have had some customers laughing - or - grossing out... could have been worst i guess.... *sniffles* Tonight... get paid... tomorrow morning... much cold and flu meds to be bought...

People are so cranky at the mall... I'm just glad ours isn't like, mad busy.... or I'd have cashier/stock rage...

So yeah, I managed to cut my left elbow the other day at work (read: Papercut) and now it's itching - like - crazy... *twitches* I'm trying to resist the urge to scratch it... I have to let it heal properly... but yuh *scratches around bandage*... so what's new with me? My sketch book died on me last week.... it's all filled up. It croaked. It's washed up. In need of a new one. Prolly gonna go down to Kensington tomorrow and pick one up... and new inking markers... and I need a hair cut.... and.... can you tell I just got my second paycheck....? Hmmmm? " Burn, Baby, Burn!!!"

*mumbles* I barely say 'hi' to the wad of cash I make, and I can't even keep it looong enough of it in my pocket before it goes 'bye'! Crap! *face palms*

On the flip side I am laughing my arse off at my good luck that an older woman bought a friendship bracelette that I made outta sheer boredom (WHAT WE ALL KNOW: bored artists are dangerous!!!!) l. $10! She bought it from me for $10 Today!!! These things I give away! And she was willing to buy it at my managers price when I was more than happy to get $5! - Get a pepsi and have enough change to take the bus home from work today. I would have been so content! Heh! $5 richer. And LOOK! I still am! 'till tomorrow when I when I have to break it up for bus fair. -_-;;

Bad news... errrrmmmm... I can't go back to work right away... I have to wait... a week... and in that week I will loose my internet - until said job takes effect and Pol * can pay her bills *le sigh*

I hate going thru internet withdrawl. I get super angsty and forces me to be more sociable... and I'm not... I should be... but... no. *lol* I'll try... but then I'll loose me 'artistic groove'.

Yeah, kudos to being weird. I'm a great one-on-one person - or if I know you... but I just can't talk up a storm to strangers or a crowd. I rarely ever say bye - I wander off - trying to change that tho. I'm pretty sure I'd fade away and die in a crowd scenerio. Or babble and stutter more than usual - and feel twice as stupid... can't help that.
S'funny being a introvert - being shy (and sometimes scary) - you naturally stick to yourself (most the time), and sometimes it is a real fight to learn those much needed social skills and get talk to new people. So, you learn it - unlike the natural extrovert - who have that hotwired in their brains already.
