Hello all! My new group, #Publish-Write was accepted as a Group! So, it's mostly a resource/tutorial reference group for writers who are thinking of publishing/editing/revising. Please join, or LET ME KNOW IF YOU WANT TO HELP OUT!!

Hello all! I need your help - I just created a new blog for "critiquing" writing - both published and not.

It's right here, and I need your help to get the ball rolling on this. I want some traffic. And I'd love to critique some of your writing on it. Let me know if I can - send me something, preferably prose. Maybe even a synopsis. Something from your NaNoWriMo? But be warned - the blogs called "book shreds" for a reason. I'll be tough. ^^

Wicked

Well, this weekend I went to see Wicked in San Francisco. There was a standby for Elphaba - Vicki Noon, but boy was she amazing. The woman who played Galinda/Glinda was spectacular, too. Although she did manage to be realllly annoying as Glinda. Kristin Chenoweth did a better job of making her more lovable. Anyhow, the music was amazing, everything was fantastic. I cried at For Good/Defying Gravity - but I knew I would, anyway. Also, I teared up when Nessa was yelling at poor Elphie. Oh, Fabala, what has happened to you?

I read the book first, though, so the original version of the story will always be my favorite. There were quite a few discrepancies, but that was to be expected. A few - SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER

were Fiyero and Glinda (wtf?), Elphaba living, Fiyero living, no implied romance b/w Elphie and Glinda, and Liir not even having a part. Also, they made Elphie out to be a lot more innocent in the play. She was the victim, only the victim! *sad face* In the book, she wasn't really a victim - she was just human. She made mistakes, like sleeping with someone else's husband, and killing small children (>.> and yet, people made her out to be much worse than she truly was. I liked the book better. Gregory Maguire's writing is pure prose; it's amazing. I could read Wicked every day of my life. I cry every time, too.

Also, I realized that I cry almost once a week. Maybe it's because I tear up at books, and I read so many? Hmm.

Summer

Ah, yes, it is that time of the year. Today the school year ended officially for me, and summer is nigh. I plan to spend it editing my book, along with being more active on my RPG site. We'll see how that goes!

I'm also mourning the anniversary of my godmother's death. She was very important to me, and I loved her a lot. I only just realized that every single one of my first favorite books was given to me by her. The Golden Compass and the Subtle Knife, the first three Harry Potter books... She wrote something in each of them, and when I read them, I think of her.

Rest in peace, Sharon. I love you still.

Happy summer, all of you! Enjoy life, and the warmth!

Off to my pool. Maybe I'll post more stuff soon. Blech.

Macbeth - Act 6 THE MUSICAL

Monday. The best event ever. I will be performing a play I wrote (the script is up) with three guys. It will be epic.

We have five songs. For one, 30 minute act. Yuss. We also have, like 12 scenes where different male characters stare at other male characters longingly.

I'll post some quotes...

EXCERPT 1

FLEANCE: "Guards! Detain him!

Wait!

(pause)

His haunch is mine... (this said as he strokes a very large sword up and down)

MACBUFF: "You want some of this haunch? Come and get it." (this is the only non-iambic line in the play....)

FLEANCE: "This tune goes manly!"

(they fight epically, with Matrix scenes, and hilt-locking, jumping, and longing glares. FLEANCE grabs MACBUFF's hand and they share a look. Then he elbows him to the ground. And kills him really awesomely)

There's also an amazing scene where Fleance grabs Witch 1 by the throat, leans forward, and whispers in his/her ear... It's great. The sexual tension is off the charts.

Sweet.

Well, as you can see, I am back, and my sub is gone. Woo hoo. My internet was kind of dead. But I've posted something, go enjoy it.

I had fun at the Whole Earth festival today. Yum, Hippy Fest. I had fried rice seasoned with hemp. Ice cream, organic stuff, and I also bought a crack ring. Yuss.

I was pretty happy until I read "A Crab Eying a Tourist". It's today's Lit DD. It's supposed to be funny, but anything "making light" of pedophiles and rapists is distinctly unfunny to me. I didn't smile the entire time.

It's very well written, I'll give it that. But it reminded me of someone writing something "hilarious" about Nazi warfare and the Holocaust. That will never be okay. Why should "humorous" writing about pedophiles and rapists be?

I am saddened and morose by this... It smacks of apathy, to me.

This touches on my past.

Mmm...

And life goes on... slowly, and painfully. I have so many things I'd like to do, but I have no motivation. I fear I am sinking further into depression... I feel listless, uninspired... This probably started with me not getting into an audition.

If I was being completely honest, I would say that in reality, I only picked up the damn sax three weeks before the audition (hadn't played in almost a year), and other people had more practicing done. But still. Friggin bitches.

I'm working on my NaNo... So for those of you who (a while ago) told me you would help edit... I'll need you when I finish. (=sibilantesses, you were one of them ) I will hopefully finish soon. I'll post the first chapter up, and critique will be welcome.

I am actually looking into publishing it (when the time comes...), so I may go agent hunting after I've cross-edited with five million other people. Wish me best of luck. (Don't worry, I know the real world, I'm not naive...)

Poetry will be slow in coming.

Well... I don't know, I've just been feeling a bit depressed lately. I'm doing great in school, I've planned my classes for next year, but I'm feeling... off. It's like I can feel some deeply hidden talent deep inside me that I just can't get out. I feel like Van Gogh did. Hopefully I'll keep my ears when I go through this phase

I'm just hoping that Lady Luck will smile at me and grant me some confidence, or something. I feel... shitty right now. Still feeling those emotions from a while ago, about deeply loathing people with talent. That means ALL of you, DA. >> Nah, not complete loathing. ^^

On the bright side, I just got some new painting supplies, so maybe I can channel my angst into that. Yeah... Maybe that'll work.

BDAY

Hello, DA World! Tomorrow is my birthday! I will be a year older, tomorrow! w00t! I just thought I wouldn't be on tomorrow, so I figured I'd say it today. ^^

The friend thing is kind of in the works. I'm just kind of putting it aside, and thinking of happier things.

The Story

Well. Basically, the gist of it is that my dysfunctional bff (one of a few) "broke up" our friendship. And she is SO dysfunctional. You wouldn't believe it. There was a lot of tears. And bitchy words from her. And me being stoic and holding off. So I just need some s right now.

The black silk chiffon chafes my tender scalp, but I can bear that pain easily. I can hear sniffs from your mother, who's carefully pressing a hankie to her lipstick-less mouth. Everyone seems to be moaning, or muttering. Everyone seems to be having some reaction to this tragedy. Even your silent sister is sobbing. Not me. My mouth is firmly shut, my mascara still in place, even my eyeliner unmarred. I'm perfect. But you can't see it, can't see us all dressed in black. Your eyes have closed. I guess all you can see is night, now. Endless night. Why won't you wake up? I wore black for you. I stayed silent for you. I was there for you.

Hey, DA world. Sorry I've been so busy lately.... I'll be updating with some more poetry soon, I promise. And I'll get to all your deviations, and comments. Promise.

Well, I've been busy with going to an icky psych center for 3 hours, 3 days a week. Bleah. Well, I guess I need help, so I buckled down and went.

My friend who had tried to commit suicide is now totally in residential, and is somewhere where I can never visit her. She might even be moving a few more states away from me. I send her care packages, though...

For those of you who enjoy Twilight... Well, I went to the midnight premiere of Breaking Dawn. Er, woohoo.... I made a t-shirt and everything, and got buttons, stickers, and won a raffle. I was wristband number 26, so I got my book at, like, 12:04. Then, I sat down and waited for my friend, who was..... um, well, number 321. O_O

I read that book that I paid a shit-load for, and you know what? It read like a piece of crap. Steph, your writing was good on The Host, fine on the other ones (kind of), but BD?? GOOD LORD. WHO THE HELL NAMES THEIR CHILD RENESMEE? WHAT. THE. FUDGE.

It read like a fanfic... gone wrong. Complete with mutant children and all. Gah.

I mean... RENESMEE??

Oh, yeah, my mom's name is Stephenie, and my husband's mom's name is Molly, so I'll name my kid Stepholly! Or Mollephenie! Yuk yuk yuk! har har har..... NO. NOT FUNNY.

Well...

As some of you may know, I've been in Lake Delton, Wisconsin for the past week. The reason I don't have more pictures up is because... all I have is my cell phone. I'm trying to borrow one of my friend's Nikons, so you may see some pictures up then.

On to the title of this journal...

Let's clarify what happened to Lake Delton before I tell you. There is no lake anymore. It is just sand, mud, and fetid water. Emphasis on the MUD. I don't know if you can see where I'm going with this yet, but you will soon.

So, NO LAKE. Sand, mud, and fetid water. OK, stay with me.

Anyhow, I decided it would be a good idea to walk from a restaurant, Port Vista, to my cottage. This would mean walking across the Lake. I started out with a left turn when I was supposed to go right, because I thought I could cut across the lake-bed or something equally stupid. Well... I couldn't. I started out walking on sand, but then I got to dry, cracked mud. It looked like giant blocks of dry mud, or something. Ugh. Well, I walked across this, laughing at all the kids who got stuck in the mud trying to see the decimated houses. Ha. Ha. Ha.

Then I got to the mud. I immediately sank a bit above knee deep in the black mud, and lost a sneaker in the depths. I managed to pull it out, but it took me a good 30 seconds to get unstuck. There was about 25 feet of mud stretching in front of me. It wasn't totally MELTED mud or anything, it still was kind of dry. That was why so many people got stuck in it. Sigh. Well, I crawled the rest of the way through the mud on my knees, which balanced my weight so I didn't go straight through. Then I had to wade through fetid water mixed with mud to get to the sand. Of course, the beach I had reached turned out to be the one part of Lake Delton you couldn't reach on car, because of the breach.

I ended up walking back to my cottage, which took me an hour on the closed roads. It didn't help that I got the weirdest looks from everyone who walked past me. Imagine black mud coating my hands and arms, and a bit above my knees. Ick, ick, ick.

Well.

That's the end of my weird little story, and the moral is: DON'T YOU DARE TRY AND WALK ACROSS LAKE DELTON, EVEN IF THERE IS NO WATER. MUD IS WORSE. D:<

It's been an interesting summer for me, strangely enough. I found out that two OTHER of my friends had tried to commit suicide recently, too. So that's three friends trying to off themselves in the span of, oh, a month.

And then I get a call from New Zealand, where I learn that one of my best friends there is slowly dying of cancer. She's going blind, and to top that off, her pituitary gland is malfunctioning. It's been malfunctioning since before puberty, so that's nothing new, but it's getting worse, as is her blindness. I'm worried for her, and I'm trying to myself on a plane to visit her ASAP.

Well, other than the depressing news, my subscription is running out in, um... hey! Exactly a week! ^_^ It's been great to have it, and thanks again to Cindy (Blueskye27) for giving it to me!

EDIT: DUDE. I JUST REALIZED MY ATM CARD CAN BE USED AS A CREDIT CARD. I JUST BOUGHT MYSELF ANOTHER 3 MONTHS, BABY!

I've only done 2 poems in the 100 Themes Challenge, so wish me luck on the other 98.

Three things for you today.... The major one first, the less trivial ones at the end....

Today I found out that one of my closest friends (best, I guess... yes, best) tried to commit suicide. She took a ton of Tylenol, heartburn meds, and whatever else was in the cabinet. That was Monday.... She got together with two of our friends that day, and told them, and she asked if she should try to throw up.

You don't THROW UP meds. It could burn your throat and stuff. That's why they pump your stomach! Well, my intelligent friends decided to wheel her around on a spinny thing at a park to try and get her to puke it up. Good Lord.

Well, suffice to say, the next morning at 5 she was in the E.R. Now she's in the I.C.U., and she's had her stomach pumped. I got notified today, and I spent most of today crying. All these... emotions going through my head....

What do you do when someone you love tries to commit suicide?

I called her, and we talked, and she asked if I was mad at her. I told her that hell yes, I was mad at her! I mean, she's my best friend, and she tried to leave me! Permanently! I told her that it was NOT okay to do that! I told her she should talk to ME if she feels that badly! The whole time I worked my hardest to keep from bursting into tears and sobbing "Don't leave me".

Now she's going back to her old hospital, and she probably won't be able to go to Ashland with me when summer starts. I'm worried for her. So worried.

I feel horrified that she would ever leave me here alone, and then I feel selfish. But she was selfish!

I'm so confused, so sad, and angry. Mostly sad.

Look at me... I've been tagged by . Yay me.... Good lord, I haven't done a tag in forEVER. Never on this account, either..... OK, so I'm supposed to put up 8 things about me.

Here goes...

1. I really, really hate spelling mistakes. As in, when I'm reading a good poem, and then it says "lieing on the grass with you". Ugh, really. Spelling checks are there for a reason! (I'm anal about things like that)

2. I love to draw and write outside. I'll take my sketchbook and go to a little plaza near Borders, and just sit on the grass and let the creative juices flow.... I really love the fresh air and breeze. I'll normally buy something from the stores nearby so they don't stare at me.

3. Seafood (mostly shellfish) is my weakness. Mussels, clams, oysters, scallops, abalone, herring, cod, pike, shrimp, halibut... you name it, I love it. Mussels are my favorite, but oysters are a close second. Especially barbecued oysters. Mmm..... Yum.

4. I read way too much. Reading was my favorite pastime before I got into writing and drawing, and it still occupies most of my time. My bookshelves are overflowing with books (most of my scant free money goes to that), be it poetry, fantasy, non-fiction, horror, or romance. Mmm. Books.

5. When people spend time with me, we always get into doing stupid things. Idiotic things. Like riding shopping carts down giant hills. And skateboarding parks. But it's always fun, and it makes for a great story!

6. I'm NOT a breakfast person. I've always abhorred pancakes, and I always will, till the end of time. The smell of cooking pancakes makes me hurl. Ugh. I also dislike scrambled eggs --though omelettes are fun-- and cinnamon rolls and french toast are iffy.

7. I have trouble getting close to people. I... have trouble hanging out with people. I hate rejection, so when I call people up to ask if they want to chill, and they say they're busy, it makes ME feel bad. I'm a messed up kind of person.

8. I give out no real personal info about myself, and I don't take personal risks. I hate being vulnerable.

There you have it. A bit more info than you needed to know, eh?

Wow! I am so excited, I made it to 1K! I never expected this account to be much of anything, mostly just a place to dump all my random poems... I guess it grew bigger than my old account, which I mostly use for artwork.

Thank you all for visiting my page, and to all my watchers and commentators. Commentators? Uh... people who comment, I guess. I was so, so happy to make it to 1K, and now I'll end this entry before it sounds too much like an Academy Award speech.

ADD, Personalized Poems, and Thanks?

I just got diagnosed with ADD yesterday.... I guess it shouldn't come as a shock; they've already diagnosed me with depression. Still, it was kind of weird.... Then my psychiatrist explained to me the difference between ADD and ADHD. I'm the one that isn't hyper... Basically, I can focus, but if I don't want to... I just won't.

*sigh* Well, it's kinda strange, but in the end, I guess I just get more meds. And I'm also taking the MMPI, which is a giant psych test with 500+ questions. =_= Fun fun.

Anyone else out there have ADD? (Attention Deficit Disorder, if you didn't know)

Well, on a happier note, I would like to thank for giving me my lovely subscription! It might have been a while ago, but I only found out a couple weeks ago... I really appreciate it that she liked my poems and gave me a subscription. She's an awesome poet, and everyone should look at her work if they have not already.

There's some new features down there, too, so check those out as well!

Thank you to everyone who's commented on my work, and... um.... yeah. I love you all.

Oh, and (almost forgot), also offered personalized poems to people, and I, hopefully, will be getting one. Now I have to offer personalized poems to the first 10 people who comment! (if they want one)

Well, I don't make very many journal entries, do I?

I just wanted to take the time to revel in the fact that though I've only been a member for about a month, I have ~600 pageviews..... Huh. That makes me feel special and loved, and I hug all of you and thank you for visiting my page.

I also wanted to thank everyone who's commented on my poems. I've got the feeling that the public likes romantic poems more than my sad poems.... (i realized this from the 5 faves I got on "Love Is..." in only the first 2 minutes after I posted it)

Huh.

Well, I'll keep up the poetry as long as everyone likes it. ^_~

I never did find out who gave me the subscription, but whoever you are..... ILU! It's awesome, and I love it.
