Whelp, Konami has posted the newest banlist for Yu-Gi-Oh, effective September 1st, 2009. Even though nobody who watches me plays Yu-Gi-Oh, I figured I might as well update my journal with something a bit... less depressing.

NEWLY FORBIDDEN CARDS:

Dark Strike Fighter: [link] - Broken as all hell. Can end a game on turn 3 with the right cards (see end of journal entry). Should never have gotten past the brainstorming stages and never been made. Glad this is banned.

Card of Safe Return: [link] - Pretty neutral on this. It hurts players who run Zombies (which is something I was planning to run) but I don't see it crippling them completely. It's very easy to special summon en-masse from the graveyard with Zombies (and the new X-Sabers too), so I can see why it was banned.

Crush Card Virus: [link] - Infamous among Yu-Gi-Oh fans. Used to be $3,000, then $200, now it'll plummet to $5. I think that it's way too powerful and can completely cripple an opponent beyond the point of recovery. However, banning it now was a dumb move on Konami's part, as it was just re-printed as a regular Rare like 5 days ago. But whatever, it needed to go.

Monster Reborn: [link] - Classic card, been around since the game first came out in North America. I consider it borderline broken, as it's extremely powerful and can turn games around, but doesn't do anything to actually cripple the opponent (unless you take a monster they planned on using). Overall, neutral on its banning, since I expected it.

NEWLY LIMITED CARDS:

Blackwing - Gale the Whirlwind: [link] - Jesus Christ is this the most broken thing in the game or what. Tuners are used to bring out Synchro Monsters (which is what Dark Strike Fighter is), and since he's level 3, he can easily combine with any level 4 monster to bring him out. It's possible to play 3 of these in a single turn, he can be searched out right away with Black Whirlwind and playing pretty much ANY Blackwing monster, and it can run over nearly any monster in the game with its half-ATK effect. This thing needs to be at 1.

Mind Master: [link] - lolwhat I had never even heard of this card until the banlist was announced. I have no idea why the hell he was limited. I heard that he's used in some one-turn-kill (OTK) combo in Japan, but apparently it never sees play over here.

Rescue Cat: [link] - This adorable bastard broke the game for 3 months once X-Saber Airbellum came out in North America, and was running rampant in Japan for longer. An entire deck revolves around using Cold Wave (or Heavy Storm or Giant Trunade), Summoner Monk, Rescue Cat, X-Saber Airbellum, and Dark Strike Fighter to win the game in one turn for exactly 8000 LP. I will explain this combo at the end of the journal entry. Definitely deserves the limit.

Summoner Monk: [link] - Pretty much nailed for the Rescue Cat/Dark Strike Fighter combo. He's powerful enough on his own right to be limited.

Black Rose Dragon: [link] - I have no fucking clue why this was limited. I've heard that since Dark Strike Fighter is banned, then Black Rose Dragon will be the default "go-to" level 7 Synchro monster, and I guess Konami doesn't want players nuking the whole field multiple times in a game. At best, she could use a semi-limit, but I never would have guessed that she would be touched.

Demise, King of Armageddon: [link] - Apparently in the booster set called Stardust Overdrive (comes out in US in November, Japan has had it for about a month), there are more cards to support Ritual-type monsters. A few years ago, Demise was used a lot in a specific deck that could kill in one turn, due to his field-clearing ability. When me and Avery showed up, we had to fill out a piece of paper listing the contents of our deck and other general registration information. The judges checked each deck list to make sure it was legal and not using cards that are forbidden in tournaments, or cards restricted to 1 or 2 copies (normally you can use 3 copies of the same card). Those with erroneous deck lists were issued a game loss on one of their best-2-of-3 games.

My record was 3 wins and 4 losses, and Avery's was 5 wins and 2 losses.

First match: Me VS Monarch deck. Result: Loss
I couldn't get any momentum going. My opening hands were pretty bad and I didn't have enough to stop his initial pushes against my life points. It went by pretty quick but I still tried to hang on with what I had.

Second match: Me VS Different Dimension deck. Result: Win
I could tell this kid was pretty new to the game, so it was an easy win. I managed to beat him pretty quickly. His deck looked like it was mostly a retail structure deck with some extra cards thrown in. He seemed pretty upset about losing twice in a row, but that's just the way things go unfortunately.

Third match: Me VS Gladiator Beast deck. Result: Win
This match was interesting because the kid I was facing was issued a game loss due to having an error in his deck list. As a result, I was counted as having won the first duel, so he would have had to beat me twice in a row while I only had to win once. However, I could tell that his opening hand was terrible and I was able to lock him down very quickly with my Monarchs and push for a fast victory. Gladiator Beasts work best when copies of them are in the deck, such as Bestiari. I was afraid that after he attacked me with one of his monster, he would bring out Bestiari from the deck and destroy my facedown Solemn Judgment. He didn't, which surprised me. I later found out he had Bestiari in his hand. That saved me and let me finish him quickly.

Fourth match: Me VS Counter Fairy deck. Result: Win
Avery fought this player earlier and beat him, but I was a bit nervous going up against a Counter Fairy deck. These decks rely on Counter trap cards which are very hard to stop and rely on negating cards that the opponent plays. He had Divine Wrath to negate my monster effects, Dark Bribe to negate my Spells and Traps, Solemn Judgment to negate my anything, and a lot more I didn't get to see. The first duel was pretty close and there was no clearcut winner for most of it but I managed to pull ahead. In the second duel, I stuck in Nobleman of Extermination from my side deck to my main deck. It destroys a face down Spell/Trap card and if it is a Trap Card, both players remove any additional copies from their deck for the duel. I drew Nobleman early on in the second duel and hit his facedown Divine Wrath, which would have crippled my Monarchs. He didn't draw many of his Counter Trap cards during the game so I pulled on for a victory.

Fifth match: Me VS Twilight deck. Result: Loss
No, not the horrible vampire tween-pop book series. A combination of Lightsworn and Dark-based monsters like Phantom of Chaos and Dark Armed Dragon, these decks can be very powerful when played correctly. This one was pretty close and both of us held on for quite some time, but he turned it around at the very last minute just when I thought I had him, and he pushed for a massive rush which destroyed me in the third game of the match. This one was a lot of fun.

Sixth match: Me VS Lightsworn deck. Result: Loss
Oh boy, Lightsworn. Some rather "eh" opening hands and a lot of special summoning on his part managed to push him into victory. But I had Royal Oppression for a lot of the game to stop a lot of his special summoning, but he still managed to destroy it later on. He commented how he didn't like my deck's annoyance and how it kept pressuring him during the duel, hehe. Of course he wasn't being mean about it, I could tell by his voice. XD

Seventh match: Me VS Rescue Cat deck. Result: Loss
By this time, the results of the first 6 matches were posted, listing me at 37th and Avery at 8th with his 5-1 streak.
Rescue Cat, one of the most broken decks in the metagame right now. The first duel was pretty slow and I stopped one of his Rescue Cats early on, but he managed to use his other cards to whittle me down slowly, then summon a Dark Strike Fighter to finish me. On June 27th is the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game regional tournament in Memphis, TN. Since I've recently gotten back into this crazy horrible card game I've decided to enter the tournament and put my skills to the test. This will be my first regional tournament so I'm both nervous and excited. The Chicago tournament had about 200 players and the Nashville tournament had about 90 players, so I'm estimating between 80-120 players for the Memphis tournament. Things will be seriousbusiness down there unfortunately, since the rules are strict and there's plenty of dishonest players out there who will try and cheat their way to the top. Obviously, I don't plan on doing this.

My biggest obstacles will be the top decks that dominate the metagame and include:

Lightsworn: Angels, gods, and their servants that focus on milling (sending cards from the deck to the graveyard) their own player's deck. Lots of Lightsworn cards activate once they hit the graveyard or rely on having Lightsworns in the graveyard, such as the all-powerful Judgment Dragon. These decks are fast and incredibly brutal. Once they get going it can be hard to stop.

Gladiator Beast: Powerful beast monsters that thrive in gladiator-style combat and feel most at home in the Roman Colosseum. Once they attack, they can tag out and go back into the deck and bring out another Gladiator Beast from the deck, which then activates their various effects. Very fast, flexible, and hard to predict.

Blackwing: A new decktype that debuted in February, these winged-beasts thrive on swarming the opponent with speed and getting multiple monsters out on the field in a single turn. With stronger Blackwings that rely on special summoning and weaker Blackwings that rely on boosting the stronger ones or crippling the opponent, they can easily overwhelm an unprepared opponent.

Rescue Cat Synchro: A decktype that's been storming Japan since last year has finally made its way here. The deck focuses on a rather unimpressive monster that can completely break and destroy the metagame with today's cards. Rescue Cat lets the player bring out level 3 or lower Beast monsters from the deck. Combined with the new "Tuner" and "Synchro" monsters, it's possible to bring out monsters that can end the game in a single turn. Rescue Cat, X-Saber Airbellum, Summoner Monk, and Dark Strike Fighter make up the core strike force of this deck.

All four of the top deck types are fast and brutal. Whichever one is "the best" is a matter of opinion and individual play-style, but all of them are not to be taken likely. My deck revolves around Monarchs: Monarchs are powerful 5-6 star monsters that require a monster already on the field in order to tribute summon them. Once they hit the field, they have powerful effects that go off and try to clear the opponent's field or hand of cards and lock them down. I try to use cards that steal the opponent's monster or monsters with high defense and other effects so I can bring a Monarch out as soon as possible and get things controlled quickly. I also use cards that try and stop special summoning, which all of the top decks rely on.

Or as I call: The Terracane.

So last Friday an “inland hurricane” as the media dubs it hit my area. A low-pressure zone caused a storm system to essentially “swirl” and as we passed through the second half of it after the “eye” in Southern Illinois, we got nailed hard.

About 65,000 people were without power right after the storm hit on Friday around 1:30 PM, and that number has been reduced to about 20,000. There are so many trees and downed powerlines here that I am simply at a loss for words. The devestation is so wide-spread that I am surprised more people were not hurt. There was only one confirmed fatality that I know of, an elderly man in town. Right now I am posting this at my grandparent’s house who have power and Internet. My house on the other side of town is running on generator power with no phone service, so no Internet for me.

I was lucky though, as I was in Carbondale a few hours before the storms hit. I had a final exam in my sociology class at 8 AM. I got done at 9, got a different test back around 10, and was home around 10:30 just as the first wave was coming in. There was a lapse in the action around 12:30, then around 1 the winds started to really pick up. People are estimating the winds to have remained steady at around 100 MPH, which from what I saw in the window would not surprise me. Around 1:30 we heard on the scanner that 3 tornadoes touched down in my town; 2 north and 1 to the south west. My mom and I went to the interior hallway because she had her feet operated on so she can’t move around real well right now. Eventually it got so bad sounding that I helped her to the basement.

Around 2:15 things started to quiet down and I looked outside, and I honestly thought the damage would be a lot worse. We lost a few roof shingles, a couple of trees that were away from the house, minor roof damage to the barn, and two windows in the sun porch. After a few days in the dark we finally bought a generator on Monday and have been running off of that for now. We had to throw out all of the food as it was starting to rot. Things have been a real mess up here and I’ve been doing my best to try and help take care of my mom and keep things running at home. It’s been a hectic first week of summer vacation.

What gets me though is I’ve heard that nobody has been reporting this. Our governor took his sweet-ass-time to come down here and survey the damage, only getting here yesterday. No idea if we’ll be getting FEMA help or not, but I hope so because some people may not get power back until next week. We’re supposed to have more (less severe) storms come in for the rest of the week, so that will slow down recovery efforts.

Holy crap. They've done something right for a chance. But what does this mean for Ojamajo Doremi, and us at Doremi-Fansubs? Well, nothing's been said or hinted at about Ojamajo/Magical Doremi getting a similar deal. It likely won't happen, but you never can tell. This totally took me by surprise. If 4kids decides to re-release Ojamajo Doremi (in any form, be it dub, uncut dub, Japanese raw, Japanese with subtitles, we will more than likely continue to press on with our own. We're not going away anytime soon, and we don't plan on it. Our goal is to bring all 214 episodes+2 movies of Ojamajo Doremi to the English speaking community completely uncut with subtitles. We will follow through with this goal even if 4kids pursues subs/raws of Ojamajo Doremi on Youtube or another medium.

I've also gotten a surge of inspiration from two of my close friends to draw more. I'm going to focus my efforts on the Ojamajo Doremi style, for now. Hopefully after I get good at drawing them in stock poses, I can move on to my own pictures. At the same time, it will also help me draw Puffs better, which I can always do with cross over pictures.

I won't draw each and every day, but hopefully every other day or so I will work on something at least. I plan to ink and color my latest Doremi sketch today or tomorrow.

After passing an exam, Majo Heart decides to try and test the girls. She tells them to get some magical lavender from the witch named Majo Don. Problem is, Majo Don is the biggest business woman in the entire Witch World. As Dela puts it, prices and rise and fall at her whim. She'll charge you just for visiting her! She's not very fond of humans it seems... But maybe there is a deep reasons for this...?

Episode 20 involves Aiko and how she finally is able to see her divorced mother. However, Aiko had already promised her dad to have dinner with him before she learned of her pending arrival. Doremi, Hadzuki, and Onpu offer to help her while Doremi poses as Aiko to fill in for her at her dad's house.

The real Aiko however, goes off to be with her mother for the afternoon. We get to learn some more about Aiko's family's past, and some rather interesting information that personally had me a little bit shocked. (Hint, it's revealed while Aiko and her mom are bathing at the hotel)

Overall this was an absolutely wonderful episode, a fantastic character developer for Aiko. Gotta love her and respect her for what she's been through.

Sadly I have to open my Wii and solder the chip in. I lack the screwdriver needed to open the Wii but I should get it in 2-3 days.

What this means though, is I get to play the Japanese version of Smash Bros. Brawl between Wedensday and Saturday.

This summary for the ep will be short 'cuz I'm tired and have school in the morning and have calculus I havn't done yet.

In a nutshell, Doremi and Dodo get into a fight, and Dodo runs off. Dodo gets upset at Doremi when Doremi scolds her for accidently dumping too much water on a planted magical seed. That and Doremi has been really "abusing" Dodo by forcing her to get just about everything for her.

Can the girls find Dodo before someone else does? Will Doremi and Dodo make up?

In anycase, episode 17 of # is out, and it's Hana's first crawling exam!

As we saw in the last episode, she's amazing at crawling, able to move quite quickly for an infant and scale ceilings and walls. It doesn't seem like any of the other babies can do this yet! ...Except for Ataraimeko, who is a baby squid-octopus-hybrid-thing and has suction cups, but she doesn't count 'cuz she has those.

I won't give out too much, but there's plenty of cute adorable goodness in this episode! Can Hana pass her exam this time, or will the Ojamajos lose her to Doctor Majo Heart? Well, watch it and find out!

Well, here's 2007 in recap for me:

1) Parents got divorced

2) Got hooked on Ojamajo Doremi, one of the best shows ever

3) Visited Chicago, the greatest city in the US. (Piss off, New York. The only thing you're good for is the very awesome Momoko Asuka, as Tommy will agree to)

4) Filled my hard drive at least once (No surprise there...)

5) Got ahold of Junpei's father via e-mail, my friend in Japan whom I stayed with back in 2002 (When the Ojamajo Doremi stuff began for me)

6) Got straight As my junior year of high school

And that's about all the important stuff.
Here's stuff in 2008 I plan to do or look forward to.

1) Finish watching Ojamajo Doremi. All of it. All 214 episodes+2 movies.

2) Catch all 493 Pokemon in Pokemon Diamond

2a) Raise some kickass teams for online play on Pokemon Battle Revolution

3) Continue to work on the Ojamajo Doremi fansub, hopefully finishing the # season and getting into Motto season during the summer.

4) Get crap squared away for college

5) Study moar Japanese! D:

Well, overall 2007 was pretty good except the whole parents thing, but eh.

After another sleepless night of watching baby Hana, Majo Rika and Lala are about to lose it, so the girls decided to let them go to the Majokai so they can relax at an onsen for a day. Doremi offers to take care of baby Hana during the night.

However, it's gonna take all four of the girls to keep Hana in check when she starts using magic and... Of all things adorable... Learns to crawl! Yes, our little bundle of cute learns to crawl!

With Mother's Day approaching, Seki-sensei has the class draw pictures of their mothers. However, one of the girls' classmates, Shiori, has not drawn anything. Yada notices this, and in order to keep her from getting in trouble, he makes a commotion and storms out of the classroom.

What exactly is troubling Yada and Shiori? What's so significant about Mother's Day? Well, go watch it! Episode 15 is a very charming episode, and I think all of you will enjoy it very much!

The Sonatine Kindergarten, gets a brand new teacher, a strikingly handsome young man of 22 named Jyunichi. But Pop very quickly falls for him, much to the dismay of her other boyfriends! Their class takes a field trip to the zoo that day.

At the same time, Doremi's class heads to the same zoo to do sketching for art class, and Doremi runs into both Pop and Jyunichi-sensei!

You can easily guess that antics will occur!

I also have an 8-12 page research paper with notes, annotated bibliography, and outline to do.

As of now I have:

4.5 pages written, no sources cited yet.
6 notes taken, out of about 25-30 I'll probably need.
A very rough annotated bibliography of my sources.
No outline yet.

Needless to say I'll be busy this week.

Also, if anyone cares, episode 14 of Ojamajo Doremi # has been delayed a short time, but it will be out sometime this week, probably Wednesday or Thursday. The translation for episode 15 was delayed as well, so we're essentially having a week of no new releases. But, there's a chance that we may get both 15 and 16 (Maybe 17? Who knows) translated during Thanksgiving break, so that will make up for it.

Then again we've had a new release every week before this, so if anyone complains I'll destroy them.

In case anyone is curious, our episodes go through the following phases:

Episode ripped from DVD with Chinese subtitles (My job!)/Japanese Raw of episode obtained -> Translation -> Encoded -> QC (My job!), typesetting, etc -> Changes made to episode as needed -> Final QC and encode -> Release

Episode 14 is right on that phase between QC and the changes being made to the episode, so it'll be soon!

But I'm not here to rant about whether anime is good or bad, but talk about one anime in particular, but first I must begin with the genre.

I'm sure many of you are familiar with the Magical Girl genre. Young girl, usually between ages 12 and 16 or so gets magical powers of some sort, must defend the world from some evil ancient power, has friends who are magical, sometimes has non-magical humans who assist her, that sorta thing.

Sailormoon may come to your mind. Maybe Cardcaptor Sakura. Maybe lesbian overtones. But there's one magical girl anime in particular that I am honestly surprised that not many people know about. If my sources are correct, it has MORE episodes than Sailormoon, and may have even exceeded Sailormoon's popularity during its original run.

And that my friends, is Ojamajo Doremi.

Wait, what? What the hell is that? Why is is stupid to pronounce? How come I've never heard of it?

Well, the thing is, unless you're from east Asia, Mexico, or Europe, you probably havn't. The show is relatively unknown to casual anime watchers in North America, and only known to those who exist in the underground of the Internet (such as myself) and look for this sorta stuff. Oh sure, 4kids tried to dub it as Magical DoReMi back in 2005, but it flopped because they could not secure a large enough audience. That and they raped the show completely.

But just what exactly is this show about? Well, honestly, it's the least magical magical girl anime I have watched. Allow me to explain.

One day after school, 3rd grader Doremi Harukaze is on her way home, when she somehow gets lost and finds an old, creepy magic shop called the Maho-dou. Curious, and having an interest in magic and witches, she steps inside. The owner turns out to be a real witch named Majo Rika, and after Doremi succesfully calls her out on it, Majo Rika turns into a magical frog, a green blob-like creature. In order to change back, Majo Rika must train Doremi as a witch apprentice and into a full witch. Along the way, Doremi's other friends, Hadzuki and Aiko, and later on Onpu and Momoko, become witch apprentices too.

So, what makes this show so special? It's not the magic, it's not the cuteness that some magical girl anime has, it's none of that. It's about the characters. This is a show about emotion and people, and how people can change over time, and bond with others.

As Doremi and her friends pass the various witch exams and become stronger with magic, all of them grow and learn things about each other and themselves that they never knew. They also learn a great deal about their classmates and those around them, as they try to use magic to secretly help those they care about without being discovered. Some of the situations that these children go through will leave you floored, and some will even reduce you to tears.

Arguements with friends, helping someone with a pet, depression, parental divorce, having a friend move away, overcoming a fear or weakness, even the touchy subject of cancer makes its way into the show. Yes, cancer in a children's, Saturday morning 9 AM TV show.

Of course, this paints a gloomy picture. The show is far from that. It's a pretty cheerful show most of the time, but it does carry many emotional moments that make it stand out. It's not filled with an over-abundance of cuteness, corny jokes or obnoxious comedy, an excessive use of magic, or any of that, but finds a very good balance. While an episode may have you geniunely concerned over the well-being of a character, be them main or secondary, you can still feel satisfied after watching an episode, and maybe even get a few laughs out of them. There are plenty of sweet moments, funny moments, and sad moments, to really round the show out.

Now, if you're expecting some sort of crazy awesome action show with over elaborate transformation and spells with ancient evil magical entities hell-bent on ending the universe, look elsewhere. Transformations are short, sweet, and to the point. Oh sure, if you have three or more girls transforming all in succession, or scenes where they use recycled animation for the spells, it takes up screentime, but it's really not that bad compared to some shows. Transformations and spell animations usually take just a few seconds to pull off, with the transformations taking slightly longer.

Of course magic is a key theme in the show, but in all honesty, the characters are more important. You can't help but develop a soft spot for these girls and their friends as you watch the show. Toei did a fantastic job at bringing the show to life, and I feel honored to be able to watch such a show.

Something else: I've had a few ideas buzzing around in my head for a while for a story. I don't think I'll continue Horror or Hero for a while (or ever, since I'm a lazy idiot), but instead start something new, and completely unrelated to the Powerpuff Girls (gasp).

And no, it's not Ojamajo Doremi related either. I won't say any details on it, since there's always the curse that if you leak details of a big project or something new it'll never get finished that follows me. Or if I even do it at all.

Why are these so goddamn hard to find? In the span of 6 months I have seen four of these cards. 3 at Wal-Mart during launch, 1 at Wal-Mart the other night. Now my inside people are telling me these are common in Omaha and in York, SC, but why are they so bloody hard to find in Illinois?

Come on Nintendo, get off your ass and print more of these. They can't possibly cost more than 15 cents to produce the paper and ink, especially given the flimsy paper these things are printed on.

At least I can use my debit card, but Wii Points Card are so much easier to use. That is, if I could find them.

I went to Wal-Mart again, and there are four people camped out. It's 5:36 PM as I type this. I'll be suiting up with long underwear and warm clothing for a campout starting between 7 and 8 PM. Sometime between all of this I'll eat dinner and my dad will get home from work. After procurring some lawn chairs from the elderly (Grandma and grandpa),we will then go wait in line. Around 10-11 PM my mom will drive up with hot chocolate and so we can switch places and warm up in the car.

Chance of success of getting one Wii: 99.9%.
Chance of success of getting two Wiis: 99.89%.

This will most likely be my final update until tonight is over, so wish me luck.

Well it's 8:30 AM on a Saturday. I'm out of bed, dressed, and sick with the flu. Sometime this morning I'm gonna head out to Wal-Mart and scope out the line. My friend said no one is at Marion Wal-Mart yet, which is a bigger town, so more than likely no one will be at Wal-Mart here. Gonna eat some breakfast soon then check the place up. Expect updates every few hours, and a final update around 1 AM tonight Central Time if I succeed in taking over the wo-getting two Wiis.

No one in line at the Murphysboro or Marion Wal-Marts yet. I'll probably check the place out again at lunch. Also, GameSpot gave Red Steel a 5.5/10. Burn in Hell GameSpot. Guns, sword, Japan, Yakuza thugs. It's sexy wrapped up in good, but I suppose I'll judge it when I play it sometime around 1 AM.

The Toys R Us thing didn't work, so I still have to do waiting around a Wal-Mart.

Well, I did some calling and the Wal-Mart in my town will be getting 29 Wiis in, as opposed to the Marion Wal-Mart which is getting 20. However, they are only doing a first-come first-serve deal. Since my town is smaller than Marion and is getting more Wiis, I figure I'll have a higher chance of getting them both there.

I plan on leaving the house sometime around 7 AM, getting some breakfast, and checking Wal-Mart for lines. If no one is lined up, I'll head home and check back out there every few hours. As soon as I see a line start to build up, I'll camp out until midnight.

According to a friend of mine, the Marion Wal-Mart will be selling Wiis, but a bit differently. They will have chairs setup in the electronic section, sometime around 8 PM I believe. Anyone in those chairs will be given a ticket at 10 PM. This ticket will let you buy one Wii at midnight. I plan to go with my mom so we can get two tickets, thus two Wiis.

Hopefully I can pick up lots of accessories and some extra games too.

Japan's release is December 2nd, for 25,000 Yen (Approx: $212 USD), however, they do not get Wii Sports packaged in.

The Wii also has a system of Wii points, which can be purchased online for the equivlent of 100 Wii Points = $1 USD. NES games on the Virtual Console are 500 Wii Points, SNES are 800, N64 games are 1000, and the Opera Browser will cost 1000 as well. Wii points can be purchased online or retail in the form of special cards. Nintendo expects 60 titles to be available before the end of the year, with 30 to be Mega Drive and PC Engine titles. After that, 10 titles are to be released every month. Several third party companies (not specific titles) have been confirmed to participate.

Wii also has a few extra features that have recently been revealed. One of which is Mii, which is a program that lets you create a 3-D avatar of anyone you want, and you can make dozens of them it seems. You can use them in certain titles as characters (Wii Sports, for example), and even place them into your Wii controller to take with you anywhere.

The Wii will also include a news page, where you can catch up to the minute news events. It will also include a weather channel of sorts, which lets you view forecasts anywhere in the world ay anytime. It navigates similar to Google Earth, however, the video did not show if you could type the name of a city and country to instantly go there.

All in all: Nintendo's got a hell of a thing going here. Obviously, it's not perfect. I personally expected a $200 price-tag, but it comes packaged with Wii Sports, so I can understand the $250 tag. Think of it as buying a $200 system with a $50 game.

The price of extra controllers makes me cringe a little bit, but I suppose there's no choice. Those damn little things use a lot of technology, so I can see how they'll cost more.

I was also expecting more virtual console titles, but we can't complain I suppose. For those totally clueless: Bonus Stage was cancelled a few months ago due to financial trouble. According to the official site, the show is listed as "production ceased". Episode 88 was the last episode, involving time-travel shenanigans that ka-splorches reality, so it gets complicated. It wasn't intended to be like that, but because of the sudden end, it was, which is why episode 89 doesn't fit in at all with the continuity.

But, somehow it got spat out.

Also, there's apparently a DVD in the works according to Matt's blog. Woo.

On an un-related note, the BS Wiki is creepy as hell, and so are the obsessed-BS fans, namely the ones who stalk Matt. If you do this (either to Matt or anyone else online), you're f*cking creepy.
