Lately, I've really wanted to start getting back into photography. Having Travis around has been sort of an inspiration into shooting again, and having someone who enjoys taking pictures just as much is nice to have around. This means someone to go on non-model shoots with and to help critic my ideas hopefully leading to better shoots.
I'm finally getting my life in order and hopefully soon I can start scheduling shoots again. I'll be getting a new car hopefully in the next couple weeks (yay) and today I should be finishing my moving if all goes well. I'm going to try and find time in my busy work/school schedule this summer (summer classes+full time hours=not fun) to start doing some more shoots, I feel the longer sunlight hours will definitely be a plus.
Also, it has come to my attention that my monitor is calibrated pretty different from other's newer computers (especially laptops) and I will try to correct that. I think the contrast is up way to high or something (crappy graphics card) The problem with that is that things that appear black to me actually show detail to you, leaving the picture looking a little funny. If you've noticed this, believe me, it looks way better on my computer. It's going to take some time, but I'll probably go through and re-edit all the photos with this problem.

Heres a good example:
<-- This picture here.

On my monitor the back of the couch is black, you cannot see the back of the couch. Newer monitors show detail I thought I blacked out, making the couch kind of look like it's glowing.
Ugh.

Anyways, just thought I would update a little, I haven't submitted in a while but I shall soon. Naval Academy shoot with Jenn Friday evening! I think it will go well.

Mary

Jpeg Magazine deleted all of my photos because I accidently left a border on ONE on the photos I submitted. This is ridiculous and I am very angry about this. They also stated that once they remove a photo you cannot resubmit it... because it had a border on it!?

I deleted my account, I might eventually create a new one.
Just felt like sharing.

I also am considering getting a subscription.
Tell me, what good things will it give me?

The wonderful thing about photography, or any art is taking an emotion and sculpting it into a tangible concept, making someone look at something from a point of view they've never even thought to look at before. Showing someone beauty where beauty had never been seen before, or showing someone agony in a way they never imagined. To take something and make it as wonderful, or a horrid as you'd like, is truly an art. To show someone raw emotion, whether it may be anger, passion, sorrow or fear in a single moment, frozen in time, should certainly be considered a great feat, if nothing else. Then, for that photograph, or art-form to create a manifestation of feelings inside someone, could be described as amazing.

Artists should be appreciated, for they have a courage to show you things you'd otherwise be blind to.

Here are a few quotes about photography I've collected. I really like them.

A true photograph need not be explained, nor can it be contained in words.
-Ansel Adams

Photography is a way of feeling, of touching, of loving. What you have caught on film is captured forever... it remembers little things, long after you have forgotten everything.
-Aaron Siskind

You don't take a photograph, you make it. -Ansel Adams

There are no rules for good photographs, there are only good photographs. -Ansel Adams

A photograph can be as striking and as haunting as a great painting or a fine poem. -Anonymous

If you saw a man drowning and you could either save him or photograph the event...what kind of film would you use? -Anonymous

Once photography enters your bloodstream, it's like a disease. -Anonymous

Good photography speaks through silence. -Anonymous

Of what use are lens and light to those who lack in mind and sight? -Anonymous

The camera can photograph thought. It's better than a paragraph of sweet polemic. -Dirk Bogarde

Hope you enjoy.

Annapolis is a very well-known town I suppose, theres alot of history, alot of photo opportunities, alot of art.

What bothers me about this town is that there are 20 galleries, but it's impossible to get featured in one unless your photo has a boat or the state house in it. I believe there is one gallery that is open to unique photography, and technically, it's not even in annapolis.

It just seems so impossible to get your work noticed without having money to do so. Any ideas?

I mean, I love photography for photography, and I don't do it to make money off of it, but photography is an expensive hobby. I put alot of money and effort into it and it would be nice to get alittle back.

So, I participated in that One Million Masterpiece thing online. It has less options than MS Paint, but it's a great idea.

It's for charity if you don't know about it, but deviantart members are invited to do it for free until Spet, 24. (There's a news bulletin about it with a link to the invitation). I'd like to donate, but that requires a credit card, so I took the free invatation. I'm a bad person, I know.

This is my little picture I made:

Spider

It's not much, but I think it's cute.

I suggest you try it, it's a fun little project and when it's finished will be displayed in an art museum.
