At the mo I'm on my vacation from work, basking in the heat of the prairie sun in Edmonton.

On July 11th my father and I took the Coho across to the States and, after a day or so of driving through the Washington desert, arrived at the Gorge Amphitheatre (obviously there were some bits in the middle, but nothing really noteworthy) for a concert. Elvis Costello and The Police, to be exact. It was nothing short of fantastic, to be honest. I have a picture or two up on Facebook, and I'd be glad to direct people to the pictures that my dad took if anyone was interested.

Also on Facebook is a note I posted of the various (hilarious) reactions that we received while driving the Smart Car. For anyone who doesn't know, Smart Cars have only just been introduced to the US, so most people had never seen one of those beasts before.

Anyway. Coming up this summer is my 19th birthday, which should be interesting. I'm not planning on having a huge do, but we'll see what happens.

Not a whole lot, really.

I'm learning how to drive, which is effing terrifying. I'm taking Young Drivers of Canada lessons though, so I should be okay. I'm almost done the classroom sessions (one more to go), and I've had two in-car lessons with the instructor. I'm getting a bit more confident, but I still get frightened easily on busy streets. And traffic circles are the enemy.

About two weeks ago my grampa had a wee stroke. The right side of his body was affected quite a bit, but he's doing really well now. He made amazing progress and they've moved him into the rehab ward (it's hilarious to see the looks on people's faces when I tell them that my grandfather is in rehab) so he can do more intense physio. He's now walking on his own (for the most part) and can go up and down stairs quite well and he can write intelligibly. We're all super proud of him, and I think he's pretty happy too. Anyway, because he's in hospital, I'm staying with my grandmother for a while so she's not alone in her big house.

Anyway, I went to the dentist today and, as usual, I felt crappy afterwards.

Dentists have this amazing power to make me feel horrible for no reason.

So, to cheer myself up I bought a new digital camera.

It's a Samsung L73.

Not the best camera out there, but it's got that neato face-finder thing for portraits, and that kinda won me over.

If I'd waited until tomorrow (payday) I could've bought a better camera, but I needed something immedeately, so this'll have to do until I've got enough money for a swanky digital SLR.

I had liquor-free grad (well, except for a bottle of champagne, of which I drank most) because me and my friends are lameasses.

I survived all two of my final exams. I don't know how I did on the Bio12 provincial and, frankly, I'm not too keen to find out. I'm pretty sure I tanked it.

I got a shiny new job. I'm now a salesclerk at Value Village (I get 50% off almost everything, bitchez).

I went and saw Harry Potter with ~VietBabe.
Jeebus, that was awesome.
Let's just say it was a good thing I didn't wear any eye makeup, because there was some serious eye-leakage.

Ah, so I've more or less recovered from the 2 1/2 hour salsa bootcamp that Carlitos put me and the group through on Monday night.
I just noticed this time that he had his tongue pierced. He was saying something to me and I was like "Hey, there's something sparkly in your...WHOA!"

Anyway. Good things. This is the last full week of classes. Grade 11 is almost over! That's just a bit scary, because it means I'll be graduating next year (knock on wood).
On June 29th, exactly 1 week from the last exam day, I will bid farewell to my braces. So long traintracks, hello pearly whites! The day I found out I was getting rid of my braces I was in a pretty constant state of euphoria. And then I went out salsa dancing that night, Tyler (~MrGnome) was competing with one of our salsa buddies and they came in 2nd! Both teams they beat were adults! Go congratulate him, he did an awesome job.

Yay for hospitals!
So, my family went over to my grandparents for dinner last night and I stayed home because of my headaches and my mum made the mistake of telling dear paranoid grannie all of my symptoms including the sore neck. Now, for those of you who don't know, cold + headache + sore neck = meningitis. Grannie had a total cow because her cousin or someone had had meningitis and it sucked hardcore. She made my mum promise to take me to the emergency room as soon as she got home. I was not thrilled about this, although I was kinda desperate to figure out what was going on; I never get headaches, ever, and Advil wasn't cutting the pain at all.
So we drive out to VGH and I get all my paperwork done and a couple little paper ID bracelets made for me (I had to get an allergy one as well as the regular one) and went and sat down in the waiting room. For 3 hours. Then I got taken into the ward thing and plonked down on a bed. For another 3 hours or so. Fortunately I had my book with me and the nurse was really sweet and talked to me and mum whenever she could. We finally got to see a doctor (he was super nice too) and he poked me and checked my pulse and whatever and pretty much told me what I already knew. I had a little virus. However, he did tell me I could completely ignore the warnings on the Advil and Tylenol bottles and combine them as well as taking more than the recommended dose (huzzah!), and then he gave me a bottle of as well as a prescription for some Tylenol 3s. It's pretty sweet.
I probably could've gone to school today, but mum just said "I did not sit around the VGH waiting room for six hours for you to get up and go to school in the morning. So, for those of you poor underprivileged sods who don't attend Esquimalt High, Ernie Locke is this sweet old man who lives close to the school and helps us out. He doesn't get paid, but every night he walks around and makes sure that all the doors are locked, and he picks up litter on the grounds. He wears his bright orange safety vest ALL the time so you can see him coming when he toddles along on his walker (which all the students pitched in to buy for him at Christmas). Today was his birthday. His 100th birthday. Most of the TAs brought cakes and we had 100 candles for him. We turned off all the lights and he walked into the gym and we all (1000+ students and staff) sang Happy Birthday for him. Me and Rachel both cried.

Fortunately, I've only got easy exams this semester.
French: REALLY easy, and I'm not just saying that because I'm good at French...
At one point in the exam we had to read this article about snowboarding and answer questions on the back (all in French, obviously) and I came across the verb 'farter' at some point...apparently it means 'to wax', but it's still pretty funny.
Lunch: Me and Rachel made the pilgrimage to the holy poutine shrine (J&V's Burger Stand) for a bit of gravy and cheese smothered heaven on earth...I can feel my arteries hardening again just thinking about that... We both got larges but I only managed to make it about halfway through mine before I thought I would explode. Rachel, poutine and belching champion of the third floor, managed to get all the way through hers.
Math: 46 multiple choice questions...need I say more?
Tomorrow is photography (not an actual exam, but I've got some prints to finish up) and IS (3 essay questions, shouldn't bee too difficult).

I'm leaving for Edmonton tomorrow, which should be fun. Well, not the driving part. I got it done! I now have two new additions to my ear family. Until further notice their names are Tragus and Anti-Tragus left. When they've healed enough I plan to link them together.

I went into the studio and told the lady what I wanted and she was like, "Well, I've never done an anti-tragus before, but if you're comfortable with it I can give it a try." so I got to be a guinea pig. She did the tragus first, and it hurt when the needle went in, and then it just felt really tight while the needle was just sitting there. It felt WAY better once she got the jewelry in. The anti-tragus came next and it was about the same, except I guess the cartilage is thicker because it took her a bit longer to get the needle through. That one bled like crazy. My friend Rachel was there (she volunteered to come) and she was like, "Whoa! You're bleeding all over the place!"
Then I got up and looked at them and the piercer (Emily) gave me a glass of water and a sucker (I was feeling a bit woozy, for obvious reasons). Then my mum got her ears pierced and we paid Emily and she (Emily) took about a zillion pictures of my ear. I'm not sure what she's planning on doing with the pictures, but after she was done piercing she said it looked "fucking awesome."

As you may or may not know, there has been a huge teachers' dispute in my province of BC. For the last two weeks there hasn't been any school because the teachers are tired of being pushed around by Gordo (our Premier and resident asshole/drunk driver) and voted for a wild-cat strike. The strike lasted from October 7th until today. I believe that the strike ended (I know this isn't what it says on the news) because the teachers were tired of being ignored by those in power. Before the strike they'd been to OVER 30 meetings without getting anywhere. They had hoped that the strike would get at least part of what they asked for, but nothing happened.

Lots of people at my school have been saying that they are staging a walkout in support of the teachers. I'm choosing to go to school in support of the teachers. They tried so hard to get what they wanted without results, and not showing up for school would be like pissing all over them, in my opinion. I just had an hour-long phone call with my friend Jenn (~hopefullsinger) about this and she agrees with me.

I know that not all of you are in the area and therefore aren't affected by it, but I'd love to hear your opinions. Just know that I've thought about this ALOT and won't change my opinion for anyone, and I won't hesitate to rip you apart if you attack my opinion without just cause. Seriously.

So, my weekend went pretty good. On Friday I got this awesome fake white fur coat from my granny's house. It's smexy. And very warm. I think I'll wear it to school when it gets cold enough and watch the vegetarians have a collective heart attack. On Saturday I watched my uncle get his head shaved for "Cops for Cancer"...I took pictures so you should expect at least one of the good ones to be posted once I've gotten them developed. On Sunday my grandparents had a garage sale and all the money was split between the 4 grandkids (of which I'm the second oldest) and I made $80 towars my France trip...now I've got about $300 for spendies in Paris and etceteras.


I watched the finale of Rockstar: INXS. It was okay except for the fact that Marty lost. I think he was WAY better than JD. On the upside, JD is Canadian, so it's not too bad. On the other upside, Marty was asked to open for the band on their world tour...hopefully they'll be coming to Victoria so I can see them. Until then I guess I'll just have to content myself with sitting in my room and listening to the Lovehammers...

My schedule is finally done!...sorta.
I shall explain. I'm still on the photog waiting list, but the teacher told me to just come to class anyway because the counsellors are WAY behind on updating the lists. Besides, I've got a spare then anyway so it's not like I'm missing anything. She also knew my grandma (former school librarian) and I'm sure that didn't hurt.

My back is all covered in this nasty anti-infection cream stuff because of my stupid-yet-adorable cat. She scratched the hell out of one of my shoulders and ripped a hole (a small one, mind) through one of my shirts. There was some minor hemhorraging for a while, but it stopped a while ago.

I dropped off an application and resume at the Wholesale Club foodstore deelie today...hopefully I'll be able to make some cash, even though my resume sucks out loud.

On another note, this is my first year (other than grade 8, when I only had a half-locker) that I have a locker all to myself and I'm looking for some lurvely pictures to put up in it. So far I've got a few of Criss Angel (rawr), one of OOMPH!, one of Voltaire (not the dead guy, the goth guy), and some leftovers from last year (R+, and DLM). Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to find me some good locker art. Whether it's drawn or a photo or whatever doesn't matter, I just don't want to have to see much of the icky grey locker paint.

Okay, several things to get through right now.
1. I've got to get my schedule changed for the THIRD time today and I don't know what to do. I can either take textiles again (I'd be in the same class as ~twenty-3, and I'd otherwise be able to keep my schedule the same and be in nice small classes) OR I could try to take all the same courses as one of my friends (I'd have to change a bunch of things, and end up in bigger classes, but I'd be in my friend's class and she's really entertaining). Anyone have any suggestions? I'll be checking this in the morning before school, and possibly again at lunch so I'll be able to see any replies.

2. I just saw the press photos for Rammstein's new album "Rosenrot." Meeow, rawr, and all at once. Seriously, everyone should check these out, I almost died.

3. I've fallen in love with some music that's totally different from what I normally listen to. Right now the two songs I've got on repeat are "La Vita E" by Nek (really, really emotional and fabulous Italian music), and "Man For All Seasons" by Robbie Williams (from the Johnny English soundtrack)....I can't seem to get enough of them!
EDIT: I just looked up the translation to "La Vita E"...shouldn't have done that. It took quite a bit to keep from crying, it's so damn beautiful!...and I haven't had that much sleep lately. Seriously, check this out:
