So I know no one bothers to read my journals but I feel like venting so

First of all I finally saw GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra. Not nearly as horrible as i'd been expecting. Even the goofy "accelerator suits" and Marlon Wayans couldn't ruin it for me. The one thing that WAS just as horrible as I'd been led to believe was Cobra Commander. Great origin and an interesting new take on the character but whoever designed his costumes, particularly the mask he wears when he finally refers to himself as "Commander" needs to be drug out in the street and shot. What was wrong with the blue hood or mirrored glass faceplate? Yes they're goofy but we're used to them. This just looked awful.

Still a good movie though definitely a must see for fans of action movies.

However tonight I saw (and was severely disappointed by) Whiteout. Maybe it's just me but the trailer seemed to imply that whatever they were dealing with was something more than simple human evil. The way it was edited made it seem to me that they had actually found SOMETHING under the ice and it was killing them. Maybe it's just 'cause I haven't seen a good monster movie since Cloverfield. Instead it's all been slashers and High concept junk like Knowing.

I went expecting Predator. I got an episode of CSI: Antarctica.

Turns out the movie is based on a graphic npvel I've never heard of. Had I known this fact I could've saved my money. It's still an ok movie just not what I wanted to see.

So I watched GI JOE Resolute last night, and i must say that it is freaking awesome! All the best characters made an appearance (though three probably didn't survive). Through some of the best writing the franchise has had in quite awhile what could have been a cheesy stupid movie became truly EPIC in scope. From Snake Eyes in Japan to Tunnel Rat 20 miles up destroying Cobra's communication network I was in awe. After watching Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow's fight I was drooling over how amazing it was. And Road Block pulled off what has to be the funniest thing I've EVER seen in an action cartoon. If you saw the show you know what I mean. Let's just say it involved a large gun, a grenade, and a VERY surprised Destro.

The voice work was solid and you could tell the actors respected the franchise. David Hayter was stellar as Duke and Vilgax (from Ben 10, I don't know his real name. lol) managed to turn Cobra Commander into an incredibly frightening character, rather than the screeching mostly ineffectual comedy villain of the original show. I missed Chris Latta but they made the right decision.

In all if you somehow missed it last night you owe it to yourself to find it online. I believe adultswim.com will have it posted on Monday so watch it there if you have to.

Forget that live action debacle that's coming out. THIS is the true GI JOE, and it it glorious.

Also just as a hopeful note, I've heard rumors that this may actually be a movie length pilot for a new show. I certainly hope so.

Edit: OK since i wrote this I have since realized that duke was NOT David Hayter but was in fact Steven Blum, best known as Spike Speigel from Cowboy Bebop. They DO sound kinda similar though. Besides Iwas being Deafened by AWESOME. lol

I do!

(possible spoilers below)

I have to say that when the movie was first announced I was not quite sure what the big deal was. I hadn't read the Graphic Novel. After finding a copy of it at Hastings and reading it I realized that this was possibly the best thing I'd read in quite some time.

Was the movie any good? That depends on several factors. Those who have read the book will come away either condemning it for not being PERFECT and including everything, or praising it for being as faithful as it was. If you've never read the book though it MIGHT be a tad confusing if you don't pay attention.

Honestly though the things that were taken out (Tales of the Black Freighter, the death of Hollis Mason, most of the stuff at the newsstand,) didn't feel right for the movie (excepting Hollis) and will probably be put into the director's cut in some way or another.

The biggest change comes at the end. No the giant alien squid doesn't make an appearance and frankly I'm glad. It always seemed just a little bit too far out there compared to the rest of the story.

The new ending (which i won't spoil here) works much better for me, and for the movie in general.

Also a lot of people are complaining that Silk Spectre (both of them) weren't very good actresses but I had no problem with them. I thought they did fine. They could have been better but they weren't AWFUL like so many seem to think.

In fact the only part of the movie I didn't enjoy was the guys sitting next to me in the theater. They OBVIOUSLY hadn't read the book, were total jocks who came expecting Batman type heroics, and WOULD NOT STOP complaining about Dr. Manhattan's nudity. All they had to say about the movie afterward was "That was one weird movie".

You have to give Zach Snyder (Director) and David Hayter (Screenwriter) credit where credit is due. They filmed the unfilmable movie and did it in a way that makes me want to see EVERY movie they ever make in the future.

So what did you think of the movie? Let me know!

Apparently he had cancer and had been fighting it for some time now. I never knew since the news rarely considers famous authors newsworthy, at least around here.

For those who don't know Micheal Crichton is the man behind Jurassic Park, Sphere, Timeline, Andromeda Strain, and ER, as well as many other novels combining current events with speculative Sci-fi. He was always able to make even the most preposterous ideas make sense and almost workable. If you've never read any of his books I strongly suggest you do. You'll enjoy it. I was worried that it wouldn't live up to the hype but I am proud to report that not only does it live up to the hype, it lives BEYOND the hype. As I expected the Joker steals the show every time he's on screen, as he should, and Christian Bale shows why he's Batman. Don't expect the happy campy Joker that Nicholson played. This is a VERY mean film. Every chance they get they really drive home the reality and the crazy. Aaron Eckhart is the consummate good guy and once the worst happens he really finds his dark side. I never thought I would see the day when a comic book movie won an Oscar but I think that day may have arrived. YOU NEED TO SEE THIS MOVIE!!

I guess I just don't get mad as easy as some do.

Now the real reason for this journal. Hancock. It's been a while since i've seen a movie people were this divided on. Frankly I liked it. Will it win awards? Doubtful. But they weren't really going for that I don't think. It's much more grounded in reality than most superhero movies. It was a little short and it DID take a bit of a left turn halfway through, but i felt it all meshed really well. I can't stress enough that it isn't really a family movie. It really toes the line between PG-13 and R. While I doubt there will be a sequel(There are unanswered questions but I think there's not much room for the characters to grow.) Any superhero or Will Smith fan should definitely give it a watch.

(And yes i know that I'm a little late on the ball. I've been busy.) I'm looking forward to Hellboy II this weekend and Batman next week.

Shalarak: Demons like myself have transcended gender.
Argus: male
Nathan: I'm all man.
Screeching Hawk: I was once a man. But, being no longer human, it doesn't really matter.
Mason: No, not for a long time now.
Paula: (looks embarrassed) I was drunk on prom night.
Flatline: I lost count about a millennium ago.
Mason: My line ends with me.
Paula: (glances at Mason) no I guess not.

I have come up with a new villain for my story but I can't make up my mind maybe you can help me. He's a Greek or possibly Indian immortal, or close to it, and must feed on the blood of others like a vampire even though he isn't one. He is a skilled martial artist due to several lifetimes of training despite his seemingly frail form. His main combat power however his telekinetic control over his own blood. He can spray it from his mouth or hands for a variety of effects such as weapons, smokescreen, etc. Right now I'm bouncing between Mainline or Bloodwork. This has contributed to my insomnia. I would appreciate any suggestions you might have and if I use your's I'll be sure to give you credit. If i can get access to a scanner or something I may even send you a picture of him I'm soon to be working on. I can't promise anything though because my computer is notoriously retarded.

I'm bored so I stole this little survey from nem-rac's most recent journal. Hope she doesn't mind.

1. Grab the book nearest to you, turn to page 18, and find line 4.
"On a planet with gravity 1000 times that of earth, would it be"
(It's The Science of Superheroes.)

2. Stretch your left arm out as far as you can.
I can almost reach my backpack in the other chair.

3. What is the last thing you watched on TV?
Dharma and Greg.

4. Without looking, guess what time it is:
10:30

5. Now look at the clock. What is the actual time?
10:50 (Wow. closer than I expected.)

6. With the exception of the computer, what can you hear?
People walking around. The History Channel.

7. When did you last step outside? What were you doing?
This morning. I had to walk to class.

8. Before you started this survey, what did you look at?
My devwatch page.

9. What are you wearing?
Black Harley Davidson T-shirt, Black Jeans, Sneakers, black leather jacket

10. Did you dream last night?
Nope

11. When did you last laugh?
Last night while reading The Darwin Awards vol. 4

12. What is on the walls of the room you are in?
Some wierd posters I assume were made by students at this college. A big flat panel TV.

13. Seen anything weird lately?
My brother

14. What do you think of this quiz?
It's alright.

15. What is the last film you saw?
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest. I can't wait for the next one.

16. If you became a multi-millionaire overnight, what would you buy?
Big house, A Dodge Viper, and video games.

17. Tell me something about you that I don't know.
I hate Leonardo DiCaprio with a passion and for no real reason.

18. If you could change one thing about the world, regardless of guilt or politics, what would you do?
Boy bands get the death penalty. I'm sorry I just hate them so much. I won't watch anything if I know that any former or current member is gonna be in it. Black Snake Moan looked good too. Thanks a lot Justin Timberlake.

19. Do you like to dance?
no

20. George Bush
We elected a muppet. And not even a smart muppet. Instead of The Count, we got Fozzie Bear.

21. Imagine your first child is a girl, what do you call her?
Tara Michelle

22. Imagine your first child is a boy, what do you call him?
Rafe

23. Would you ever consider living abroad?
I lived in Germany when I was little. But it wasn't really my decision. Maybe.

24. What do you want God to say to you when you reach the pearly gates?
I thought St. Peter was in charge of the gates. Maybe "Welcome"? (Not something I usually think about.)

I would like to apologize to my friend Scrago. I wasn't able to figure out how to put a link to any of her work in my journal. If anyone reads this please visit her gallery. For anyone who actually reads my stories I'm working to finish Dark Calling as we speak. I've got a couple other ideas but I'm not sure what to do with them yet. On a more positive note, if all goes well I'll be attending Kilgore College in the fall. Maybe i'll finally find an exit from this limbo I've been trapped in. Wish me luck!!!

Due to a screw up at the local library I have been suspended from computer usage there for the next three months. There have been rumors that they might firewall this site in the near future anyway. I heard they caught someone (not me) ogling the erotic nudes. IDIOT! WAY TO RUIN IT FOR ALL OF US PERV!!!!!!!!!!! I am now using a different library which will not allow me to use floppy disks to upload my stories. Ch 5 of Dark calling and will be put up if I can get to a friends house and use their net connection. If I disappear from the site for a while these are probably the reasons.

Due to my brother Ninjavspirate's last journal entry, I have been forced to disown him and now think of him as "the moron I'm forced to live with." His use of the word emosity to describe himself confuses me as they way he describes emo sounds like potheads who fall somewhere between Prince and Marilyn Manson in terms of style. Or maybe I'm just out of the loop. I hope I have not offended anyone. and please visit Finepointsharpie as he tells me he feels lonely.
