Ok, so I didn't keep up doing the daily life drawings... Mainly 'cos I've been so busy after work and not even been at my house, but that's not the only problem. Even nights when I have been home I haven't really found the motivation to draw nekkid ladies.

Maybe the problem is that I was trying to do it because I felt I should get better at drawing people, more for other people than for myself.

I've found it quite hard doing my own projects the last half a year, since I started my full time job doing Flash animation. The main problem is my hobby is exactly the same as my job, so I've already been doing what I want to do at home during the day. I really love my job, but it's creatively draining and is having an impact on my projects.

I've found the only way to manage this issue is to make animating at home as little like animating at work as possible. So that means not pressuring myself to regularly work on something every day, and not to give myself deadlines or be too self critical of what I'm doing. I find the only way I progress at home after work or during the weekends is if I just do it for fun and go at the pace that best suits me at the time.

Also, after talking to some people, the general feeling was that I should work on Bored Aliens and my other animation projects, because anyone can draw naked ladies, but only I can do Bored Aliens -- and there's so much I want to show everyone. So the only thing I'm feeling inspired to work on at the moment is Bored Aliens.

Because it's animation, there will be a wait, and I won't be updating as often as people who upload still images into their galleries. If you want to know how things are going, just say hi if I'm on MSN and if you ask nicely I might show you how it's going.

I may upload some work in progress stills to my scraps.

Also, HBAS 2 (Hiylea Bored Aliens Short) is the first proper animation that I'm doing in Toon Boom Studio. So I'm learning as I go along, but it's a really nice program to animate in.

See you all around!

Practice Human Anatomy

Well this is my first journal entry on DeviantArt. I made an account last year and put a few of my Flash animations on here. I've gotten a lot more into DA again recently and have been doing a few digital painting in PS again, which I haven't done in ages because I almost exclusively work in Flash.

I recently got a job in London doing Flash animation and illustration, so I've been a bit too drained from doing Flash and animation when I get home, but don't want to spend my evenings watching TV or playing games, so I've been drawing and doing PS more.

One of my biggest weaknesses is human anatomy, so I've decided to start doing figure drawing practice. I've got one of those chunky anatomy books that I've been trying to study, but it's makes things less fun. I've been drawing from photo reference, from sites like Domai.com which has photos of tasteful nudes, which makes it similar to doing life drawing. Check out my scraps to see the ones I've done so far. I need to practice quite a lot.

I intend to go into public and sketch people as they go by. Since I moved to London recently there's plenty of places to go, and many of them will be quite busy. Also, nobody really pays attention to what other people are doing, so they probably won't even realise I'm drawing them.

I'm going to try and keep up with my human anatomy drawings, so give me a poke if I appear to be slacking.

I've spent quite a few hours at home and in my lunch breaks looking around DA, it's very inspiring, but also shows me how much I need to practice and improve.

Cheers!
